Customer service is nonexistent. I called twice prior to coming in with no answer. That should have been my first clue. I came to pick up my dog only to be greeted by a barking dog behind the reception desk. I assumed someone would come to the front due to the barking greeting dog, but it never happened. I had to find someone to let them know I was waiting. I picked up my dog after grooming, again only to be highly disappointed. They shaved my dog and left him traumatized and constantly shaking his head now for four days after the grooming. There are nicks on his belly and his ears. He is still shaking and hides in out closet. Completely surprised that a business like this can survive with such poor customer service and product standards. read more

I have been coming here for a year now. I would normally give 5 stars however the last couple of visit I've noticed my dog in the cage a lot lately. I finally asked the schedule and they are only out for 30 min then in the cage for 1-1.5 hours. My dog is on high octane when she comes home. I blame this on myself bc I should have asked a year ago but being a new pet owner you live and learn. I could Leave her at home if I wanted to crate her. read more

I returned after having a poor experience and the staff this visit was very helpful. I waited for a tub and once the prior occupier was finished, they cleaned the place thoroughly. It helped that I brought my own supplies. I think the price is very reasonable but improvement on shampoo products is needed. I will return. read more

A couple of months ago, I took my aged dog in for a bath and shave. When I picked him up he had a dime - sized piece shaved off his left ear. When I asked about it, the groomer said he was too fidgety. He's an old dog, and no groomer has ever told me that in the 12 years I've been getting him groomed. In fact, I've received exactly the opposite feedback from other groomers at this location and others. I'm not bringing him back. He's too old, and now too skiddish to bring him back to this place. This isn't the first issue I've had, but it was definitely the last straw. read more

I tried calling this place twice on 12/26/13 to find out the rate for dog boarding and got hung up on twice because I was using relay service (it's a phone service for deaf people). I guess they discriminate against potential new customers...taking my business elsewhere. read more

8 hours is enough We have been a good customer at this location and they do a good job. However today we had a 9AM appointment and tried to change it to later and were told they were booked. They sure were we did not get our dog back until 5PM. 8 hours is too long to leave your dog. I have only used the bathing facilities so that earns 4 stars from me. They have the shampoos, towels, brushes, dryers, & everything that you will need to bath a larger dog. Take a few of your own treats to reward your pup for enduring the bath and you'll be a happy customer. We pay $15 for the bath. read more

I took my Scottish terrier, Pip, to Mud Puppies for grooming after I saw a very well-groomed schnauzer at the dog park and his owner recommended the place. I was new to Austin at the time, and I am always a bit nervous to go to a new place for grooming because Pip has gotten some bad haircuts in the past (e.g., no eyebrows, shaved tail). The staff was very friendly to me and Pip, and they took time to talk to me about how Pip's new 'do should look. The groomer, Heather, did a wonderful job. It was his best haircut ever! The shop is cute and clean, and I would definitely use the self-serve dog wash stations as well. read more

I must admit, I was lured in by the totally cute web site and the great graphics showing how easy it was to bathe your dog at Mud Puppies. I've actually used self-serve washes before with much success. Unfortunately, this was a very bad experience. Typically, I am able to bathe these two girls (dachshunds) in my bathtub, but today I just didn't want the hairy mess - so... off I went to try try out this shop. I got there early in the morning - no wait. The staff were nice enough. But then I was taken back to the bathing area and given... what *was* that shampoo? It lathered as much as the water did. They did mention it was a tearless formula that didn't lather, but heck, if I'd known that - I'd've at least brought my own stuff. I felt like I may as well have just hosed them down in the back yard for all the "clean" they got. At any rate, I dutifully tied off one doggie and went to start on the first one. The first apron I tried on had a broken clasp (they hung it right back up on the rack), but I did get one that tied properly in the back. When I turned on the water, it was stone cold. When I asked, the staff told me it takes awhile for the hot water to run and that as I was the first one there, it was running cold. It took me actually hunting down an employee to run the water at another station which got the hot water churned into my tub. Why they didn't do that from the start, I'm not sure. It felt like, "water's cold - so sorry" at first. In the meantime, my one girl was being a handful in the tub, and it definitely was NOT the easy process that they showed on their web site. I told my girls that the next time I'd save $20 as well as the gas and we'd just use the tub. read more

I just want to say kudos to Mud Puppies on 620. I was turned away from Petsmart @ Lakeline today to get my pups nails trimmed. I walked right in to Mud Puppies and just a few minutes later they had her nails all trimmed and a huge smile on her face. She hates getting her nails trimmed but they worked their magic on her. This is definitely not the cheapest place to board your dog, but it is obvious how much they care about your pets, and how passionate they are about the service they provide. We have been using mud puppies for years, and have never had an issue. We prepare home made food for our dogs, and give very detailed instructions, which are always followed. I don't write reviews often but considering my experience I wanted to make sure I did. I found Mud Puppies while driving through the shopping center they're in and decided to give him a shot as my pups' previous groomers were way over in Pflugerville. Lorie was our groomer and she was super sweet and professional. I felt bad not being able to tip her as we didn't have the cash for it this time around but next time I go back I'm going to ask for Lorie and will definitely tip as she did a fantastic job. read more

I used their boarding, grooming, and doggy daycare services. I was never disappointed. When I needed to rehome my dog, Kelley and her staff were so helpful with ideas of things I could do to find my dog a new home. My puppy and I love Mud Puppies!! It's practically his second home, he goes to Play Care while I'm at work and stays there for boarding when I have to travel. He is very timid of humans in general, but he LOVES his Mud Puppies caretakers - every morning he gets excited and wiggles his whole body when he realizes he's getting to go play for the day. They also do great grooming, when he comes back from a bath he is clean and happy and well-conditioned. I have only used the self service dog wash here, but I love it! My husky gets dirty. DIRTY. We go hiking, running, swimming, playing at the dog park, etc., on a daily basis. So, when it's time for a visit to somewhere that a dirty husky is not appropriate, this is where we go for a serious bath. Bathing my husky is a sport all its own, and one I would hate to subject professional groomers to, so that room is covered in hair and water from ceiling to floor when we leave...but we just get to LEAVE IT like that! read more

Great place to wash a dirty dog. I usually bring my own shampoo and such, so I can't comment on their products. The facility is clean and they offer treats and such for sale, too. Easy in, easy wash, easy out. Hours on Saturdays are PERFECT since we usually take the pooch to a dog park or lake and he needs a bath on the Saturday afternoons. Not only did our pup come back looking excellently groomed, she also didn't seem as anxious as she usually is to get right on out of there. Took my dog here to use one of their self service tubs. I wanted to try this place out because I had met the owners a couple months before. I have not used their grooming services or boarding services. But the tubs they let you use are clean and wonderful. I haven't gone back since, mainly because I have a little dog that I can wash in my sink (but sadly I don't have the rinse hose that got the soap out of my dog's hair in about 2 seconds). I would recommend mud puppies for sure. I actually have a number of times. Now, all of my neighbors go there (who were very unsatisfied with their previous groomers but now love mud puppies and have told me that they won't go anywhere else) read more

Have been taking our Golden Retriever here for the dog-wash service for a couple of years. Figured out that you really need to bring your own shampoo for bigger dogs with thick coats - the tiny bottle of watered down shampoo is just not enough to get a big dog clean but they don't sell it in the dog mart. Washed my dog and another dog there yesterday but did not bring shampoo, so had pay an extra $5 for an extra big bottle (also really watered down) to cover both dogs. Friendly staff, clean dog wash room, never had to wait for a tub. read more

I would take my mini schnauzer to Mud Puppies whenever I lived in that area. I LOVED taking her there. The staff is fantastic and such a great facility. Love how they post pictures weekly of all the daycare and boarding dogs on Facebook. If your pup is staying there you'll def see a pic of them :) I hate that I live in South Austin. We have two cocker spaniels and we bring them to Mud Puppies for boarding and for grooming. We have been extremely happy with both.We like the set-up of the "cubicle rooms" where they sleep for the night and the playrooms are great. We have used Mud Puppies for many years to care for our hyper-active, multi-illness cocker spaniel. He requires 2 medicated shampoos per week and we couldn't handle him in the tub. He is regularly groomed by Jane. And we board him there when we travel, fairly often. What is most clear and endearing is they love the dogs and treat them as if they were their own. We (seniors, kids gone) adore and spoil our dog, miss him when we travel but really don't worry about him. He gets excited when I pull in their parking lot. Other than wishing they had a senior discount, we have been very pleased with his care. read more

DO NOT USE GROOMING SERVICES. I was unhappy with the service I had received from the grooming department at Petsmart, so I tried this place out, hoping that I would have a better experience. The people are friendly, but the way in which my dog was groomed left me very upset. I will NEVER be going back to this place, and would NEVER advise anyone to go here for grooming. When I met with my groomer before the appointment (who is supposedly one of the more experienced groomers), I showed her pictures of how I wanted the body and face to be shaped on my miniature schnauzer. The groomer didn't ask a lot of questions, but seemed to take notes on what I was asking for, so I thought my dog would be ok. The resulting cut around her muzzle was choppy and extremely uneven, like someone just randomly and haphazardly cut hair away from her mouth. All the fur was shaved away from under her eyes, so she had a depressing and gaunt look, with cheekbones jutting out like I had not fed her in a couple weeks. The groomer just said "I thought this was what you were looking for. I've never cut a schnauzer like this before." I wanted to yell at her, "then why did you cut MY dog this way? If it seemed unusual to you, why didn't you clarify with me?" Even the other employee at the front desk admitted that the cuts around the mouth were very uneven. I am convinced that the groomer made a major mistake while grooming my dog, and tried to cover it up, but did a horrible job at that too. I requested my money back after getting home, and I am awaiting the funds to post back to my account. Save yourself the potential stress and disappointment and take your business elsewhere. read more

Everyone I interacted with was very nice, but the grooming cost quite a bit more than where I have been taking my dog (which I did not find out until I was dropping him off and it was too late to change my plans). I thought the haircut did not look as good either. Another thing you should be aware of is that it will cost an extra $10 if you can't pick up your dog within 2 hours of when they finish grooming. Finally, the shampoo they use is strongly scented - it was overwhelming for 2 days. read more

Mud puppies went above and beyond for me and my dog Chuy last weekend. We were taking a certification test for him to become rated as a Therapy Dog and grooming is part of it, but he had just rolled in burrs. I couldn't do it alone and I couldn't get in to any groomer within 50 miles on such short notice. Mud puppies squeezed me into the self dog wash and got me the extra supplies I needed to clean him up and make his coat silky smooth in a hurry. My dog passed both the grooming and the behavior portions and got the highest rating, for Complex Situations. I really owe it to Mud Puppies. They are a well run operation. read more

Today I had the worst experience ever. I brought in my 10 lb, elderly dog with 5 teeth in his mouth for a first time grooming at Mud Puppies north. When I picked him up, I was told that it took "two groomers" to finish his haircut because he was biting them; this is a 16 year old dog with a 16 year history of being groomed elsewhere with not ONE problem. The cut was one of the worst he has ever had, areas left undone, chunks of fur from one side of his face, etc. I shudder to think what his experience was like. Oh and one more thing, I was charge a "special handling fee" of $15 extra because of the stated "extra work". Grand total....waaaay to much for a bad experience and an awful haircut. I have groomed my dog at mud puppies for 8 years. I actually got my dog for my daughter , but she went to college 6 years ago and not being a dog person, I took my dog to be groomed and really didn't know what to ask for. They would always shear him down to about 1/2 inch and it never looked quite right. After about six years of this I got very frustrated , I voiced my frustration and they did not charge me for one visit. After that I used the other groomer there, and she did a wonderful job and I tipped well. She left and the next groomer did a good job and I tipped well. Then I called for an appointment and the owner informed me that I had a history of not being happy!! She insisted that I had not paid a couple of times and was not happy with anyone there.and had a history of not being happy . Wow, one frustration in eight years, I thought we had worked through it . she told me that she couldn't figure out who I liked because I was unhappy with both groomers. it was a surprise to me , since I was happy and tipped well for about 18 months and had only complained once in 8 yrs. I now feel like I can't ask for what I want. What a shame since I realized I need to have my dog trimmed once every6-8 weeks instead every several months. I was looking forward to getting my dog on a more frequent schedule and using them more. I guess it would have been helpful if the groomer would have suggested this 7 years ago. Oh well, looking for a place that will help me take care of my Dog and help with suggestions. read more

After looking for a close place to board my two dogs while I went out of town, I found Mud Puppies. I went to check it out first, and Kelley was amazing. I've been to a lot of daycare/boarding facilities where they don't really give you a chance to see what your dog will be doing all day, or they don't communicate clearly, but my tour at Mud Puppies was fantastic. Kelley showed me everything, answered all my questions, walked me through a typical day so I could see what my dogs would experience, and she encouraged me to call and check up on them as much as I wanted. When I did call, the front desk staff members made time to reassure me and update me on my dogs' progress. I have a stranger-shy older dog and a 4 month old puppy (they're a handful), but the whole staff went out of their way to help my dogs have fun and feel at home. They even gave my dogs a bath before I picked them up, just to make sure they didn't come home muddy or stinky. My dogs get so excited to go back now. Thanks Mud Puppies! read more
