"Why, this food may be the most...horrible! Putrid! Poorly prepared! Disgusting excuse for food it has ever been my displeasure to have slithered down my throat!" XD But in all seriousness, I feel this quote aptly sums up my experience here. My friends and I ordered a malai kofta, lamb tikka masala, and a saag paneer, and some pakoda (I think they may have had different types, but I don't remember which one now...). We ordered it with naan, and peshawari naan. The pakoda was flavorless, and the tamarind and garlic sauces were quite bland, to the point where I was questioning whether they'd even actually used tamarind (or garlic). The malai kofta was absolutely bland, and very oily. All it did for me was give me stomach acid. My friend said the lamb was okay, not great. The saag paneer was spicy, but that was about all it had going for it--it had no other flavor. (This is one of my pet peeves when it comes to spicy food, btw--if it's just spicy, and has no actual flavor, that sucks...) I asked staff for an explanation about why this was not that great. Their condescending response was, "oh, I don't know why anyone orders that. It's not that good."...would've been helpful to know beforehand...or maybe just don't include it on the menu if you can't do a good job? The peshawari naan absolutely sucked. I'd tried it just a few weeks earlier for the first time at another Indian restaurant in NYC. I get that maybe you can't compare NYC proper to Valhalla, but this peshawari naan was such a letdown, I couldn't believe it--you're supposed to stuff peshawari naan with dried cranberries and/or raisins. Instead, it had these sad cranberry flakes that were so flavorless, I'm not sure if they were actual cranberry, or just red table shavings. When I asked staff for an explanation, they told me, "oh, you can't cook naan with that much stuffing..." That made me really want to tell them that I regularly prepare stuffed naan myself at home, and it's really not that hard! I think their excuse is very weak. TL;DR: this restaurant has no business charging as much as it does for food of this quality (or even serving it, really). Maybe there are certain items that are good that we just didn't try, but in that case, instead of making excuses for their bad items, staff should just heavily promote those good items, and maybe get rid of the bad items, like the ones we got. read more

I've only ever eaten here for take-out so I can't comment on their table service. However, my family and I have ordered from here many times and truly enjoy their food. The flavor and spicy-ness in the food varies somewhat from one night to another (perhaps a different chef each night) however we still enjoy every order. We usually pick up our takeout because it is much faster and fresher and there have been delays in the past with delivery. Don't let this hold you back from giving Mughal palace a try! read more

20 years I have been ordering the same dishes. one of them a mixed grill. It has ALWAYS come with sauces (mint sauce, other chutneys ) Tonight I placed an order from my Job in Valhalla. The order shows up. No sauce. I called and was told no sauce comes with the dish. I explained I have been ordering the dish for years, and it came with sauces. The man on the phone stated no! If you want sauces you have to order them. I stated Doordash does not allow and additions to you order. He said next time just call. I explained there may not be a next time. Just a note the food is excellent. But the service could be gravely improved. ...well this was my second stop at this restaurant right next to Kenisco dam on my round trip cycling ride from Bronx to the dam. First time I stopped for some samosa's (great) and a soup (so so was too creamy) This time I had a pal with me, and we stopped and thought of getting some samosa's, The restaurant was full, and had a Buffet ($15). We weren't that hungry (my friend just wanted a soup and me some samosas) but were told that either we order one entree or go for the buffet. Well we opted for buffet. The guys there remembered me from my last trip as we wear funky clothes! Food, that included tandoori chicken (good) bihari kebabs (nice) and shish kebab lamb (great). They had dosa too, but wasnt warm enough ie dosas werent fresh. There weren't any samosas (sad) but some empanadas (not really south asian). rest was the usual rice, goat curry, palak paneer, chicken curry and some veggys. Naans were good. Did try palak paneer that was just ok. The place is clean has a full bar. One of the guys who introduced himself has the owner was interested in talking to us about cycling offered us mango lassi (complimentary) and tea (that was charged but could have been cheaper than the rate). He is from Bangladesh and pretty decent personable guy who knew alot of Bengali community near my home in the Bronx. Sweets has Gulab jamun (great ) and Kheer (the rice pudding) Over all on a week end its a good place to go for a buffet for 15. Food can be better (i am from the region so expect excellence) but cant complain. Recommended! read more

One of the best Indian restaurants this side of the Hudson. Staff is extremely friendly and the food is superlative. I usually go for a lamb biryani or a chicken saag but the aloo jeera is also excellent. After many years of going here I will not be going back. We went for dinner and I usually get my favorite starter as a meal because it's so filling that I cannot fit a main on top of it. However we do order a lot of different things from here as we eat. In fact the last time we were there we ordered a ton of food on thanksgiving. We never had any problems before this. My boyfriend ordered a starter for himself and planned on getting more afterwards. Before I could order I was told that if I only ordered the starter I usually get, I would not be allowed to stay and would have to take it to go. If I was not so tired from my long day I would have left without getting anything. So I was basically forced to get a main instead which was $15.95 verses the $13.95 starter. We stopped in for lunch because So Damn Hot was closed, and it had a four star rating on Yelp. The buffet offered a range of appetizer and entree choices as well as two dessert options. Appetizers included a potato samosa, cole slaw (yup), The entrees were spinach (palak), lamb rogan josh (usually a spicy parika/cardamom/cloves and tomato based gravy), chicken korma (a creamy mild sauce), chicken tikka (sauceless and baked in a tandoor oven), a mushroom dish and an eggplant dish. On the plus side, the nan bread was fresh and light, the lamb and chicken were tender, and the spicy pickle condiment was tasty. The mushrooms and spinach were tasty. That was it on the bright side. The chicken gravy was heavy and tasteless. The rogan josh lacked any flavor - we had some vindaloo brought out from the kitchen to spice up this spiceless dish. It seems as though the menu was put together to avoid spices and strong flavors. Service is not reviewed as there was not much going on in this department. The food on their buffet is restaurant quality, not typical buffet quality, But don't get me wrong, there is so much greatness on their dinner menu you will not be disappointed! (Unless there is something not right in your head). Even my friend Peanut who doesn't like Indian food enjoyed it a lot ! Also the carrot portage dessert (and even the beer one) are two of the most amazing foods I've ever had from India!!! Best Indian food I've had in a long time. Loved it so much that we went back the same week. Dishes we've tried and loved so far include: Bainghan (eggplant) Burtha, Murgh (chicken) Mangolorian, Navaratan Korma (assorted veggies in a casher and almond sauce). The rice was fluffy and tasty, and the bread (Onion Kulcha) was light and delicious. We took the leftovers home and everything was equally wonderful a day or two later. Those with nut allergies beware!! Do NOT believe the list of ingredients listed on the menu! Since MP opened, we have either eaten in the restaurant or more often than not, ordered take out - even had them cater several events. Although several members of my family have nut allergies, we have never had any issues and have come to trust the food. Recently we ordered the Murgh Makanwala - which we have ordered before. No where on the menu does it mention that there are or could potentially have nuts, however after one bite, my son was violently ill. We immediately called the restaurant and the manager denied the use of nuts in the dish. However, when confronted again the next day, he said that SOMETIMES the chef adds cashews (or cashew milk). Make SURE if you go and anyone in your party has an allergy, you do NOT rely on the list of ingredients printed on the menu!! read more

I haven't had much experiences trying out Indian food up here in Westchester but I thought Mughal Palace was only average at best. I've gotten couple dishes to go as friends living nearby was having a get together. For the price of the entrees I was expecting bit more portions to be honest, even though they were very generous with the sauce I feel the meat could certainly be more. For the sauce they also taste bit more runny and not as creamy as some of the other really good Indian places I've been to in city or Jersey. The naan was decent but I guess because we didn't eat it right there definitely didn't taste the same. The rice portion was quite generous however, I think was enough to share for 3-4 people for sure. However it does seem they have a pretty good buffet deal if you're able to make it here during weekdays. Its located right across Valhalla train station so very convenient for the people commuting to city for work. The people at the restaurant were very friendly as well and certainly felt very welcoming. I think I would have to reserve another experience for perhaps a lunch buffet to try out more of their food to see if it was just a bad experience. read more

This review is only for the Saturday buffet. Ambience and the decor were straight 5 stars. Buffet had enough items if not too many. There were a couple items of chicken, which were v good, esp the 'achari chicken' which was simply awesome. The most authentic part was the 'naan'! they were phenomenal. Tip: If the naan basket is on the brink of being empty - just ask one of the servers and they would fill it with fluffy, buttery, awesome naans! There were a couple of snacks/appetizers such as Samosa with green chutney, Sambhar, Idli, and Upma. Upma tasted very very good! I loved it. One place where i was not very happy was the dessert section - traditional indian delicacies were all absent and only two items were present. One was 'sevian' which is fettuccine cooked with milk/sugar (good) and the other was some twist on normal 'suji ka halwa' - i did not try this one. Meh on this area. Weekday buffet is ~13$ and weekends is ~15$/~16$ Sat/Sun. I think it was worth it and i would come back. read more

In my opinion, this place serves the most authentic Indian food outside of NYC. My bf always asks for very hot veggie curry, and it was the first time that a chef managed to bring him - in a very good way - to his tolerance level with their vindaloo. The waiters were super nice as well, showing well meant concern about his ability to tolerate the spice level & and joining in our laughter about it. They mixed up my order of lamb curry, but immediately corrected it and apologized multiple times for it. Together with the great taste, this made more than up for the delay. read more

They didn't even give options to choose spice level when we ordered on seamless. But it wasn't just that the food had no heat -- flavor was lacking in other ways. Blah. Although I have never been a huge fan of Indian Food, I changed my mind the instant I tasted their food. Absolutely amazing. Not only did the food taste wonderful, it was so visually appealing. I have never seen such food detailed as Mughal Palace's. This is fine dining at its very best! Although we did just get take out I can't even imagine what their in-restaurant feel will be like! We had the Masala Dosa and the Bhajia as an appetizer - they were SO delicious! I definitely recommend. For entrees we had the Bhindi Do Paiza and the Avial. Updated, went for dinner today. prices for dinner are little high and food didn't match the total on a check perfectly. Nan was excellent, but 2 main entrees just weren't a "wow" experience. Lamb tikka was over spiced (not even hot but too strong spices which i didn't enjoy and meat wasn't cooked long enough to be tender and perfect, eggplant dish was again OK but I had experienced better. Ordered online using the Yelp app... what a great experience! Got in the car, sat and ordered, paying with a credit card. All was ready when I got there 5 min later, packaged very securely. The ordering app has radio buttons for spice level and a notes section, which was beautiful. I had a two hour drive ahead of me, but the food was still warm and tasty when I got home (not to say I didn't nibble a bit on the minced lamb kebab with some fresh sliced onion and green pepper)! Great food BUT...we went recently on a night there were only two other filled tables. We ordered an app, an entree and naan (and later, dessert) for the two of us to share. Plenty of food. Off the beaten track and the location is good but may contribute to the reason it was pretty empty when we went (also we went on a Tuesday evening). Service is good and timely. Cocktails excellent and the food very nice but as said before not the "Wow" I expected from the high reviews. Watch out for the Appetizer sizes, they are large which may fill you up so you are taking home the main course. Pricing is a little on the high side but worth it in our opinion. I work in nearby White Plains, and I came to Mughal Palace on a recommendation from a fellow Indian food lover. I have only ever come for lunch, but that has been a dozens times, as this place is excellent for lunch and perhaps even business lunches as well. Their lunch special is a buffet-style offering for about $13 which allows you unlimited dishes of chicken tikka masala, several types of paneer, garlic naan, and other types of scrumptious, quick Indian food. I particularly love their chilled rice pudding with tons of vanilla flavor and golden raisins. The wait staff is also friendly and courteous. We've been regular customers of Mughal Palace for about 10 years now, and have yet to find comparable Indian fare in Westchester. Owners & staff are always friendly, welcoming, and more than happy to help navigate the menu. I think you get bigger portions when you order take-out, but the atmosphere inside the restaurant is fantastic and never feels overcrowded or loud, even when the tables are full. The lunch & brunch buffets are an absolute bargain at $13-$16 per person (depending on the day), and on special occasions they've surprised us with a complimentary dessert. 5 stars across the board. read more
