First a 20 cu/yard and a week later a 10 cu/yard of same top soil. unfortunately my second order was almost %60 to 70 sand . it was not compost mix at all! I was so very impressed with this company. In this day and age when customer service seems to be gone for good, they responded to my first inquiry within an hour. Nora answered my questions about the projects I had in mind and explained the products that would work best for me. The staff set a delivery time convenient to my schedule (I was having medical issues and needed to be in Baltimore every weekday morning.) The delivery was prompt. They acknowledge my concern about delivery in a townhome community and were very conscientious about the delivery affecting anyone around our yard. they even made sure they cleaned behind them after leaving the 2 tons of rocks for me. This is the second time I've ordered half a cord of wood from Mulch & Stone. Last fall, the wood was pretty consistently sized, with a couple of larger logs and a good amount of what I'd consider kindling. There was also about 2 cubic feet of rough mulch, as well as around six chunks of what appeared to be asphalt, the smallest being about the size of a golf ball and the largest few being bigger than my fist. The amount of mulch was unexpected -- I spread it around some trees in the back yard. The wood burned well and was a generous half cord. On the first delivery, the driver called to let me know she was at my house and to ask where on the driveway I wanted the wood dropped, which was much appreciated. This time, the driver did not call and simply dropped the wood at the top of the driveway, which was a little bit of a letdown after the first experience. But the real letdown was in the quality of the wood. It appeared hastily and haphazardly split. We have about a dozen pieces about six inches long, which is far shorter than the 10 - 16" cut the website promises, and a far larger number of small wood chunks and kindling than in the last batch. There were loose branches and one sixteen-inch log about 10 inches in diameter that hadn't even been split. There was no asphalt this time, but the dump left closer to 4 cubic feet of "mulch," which we once again shoveled off the driveway and spread around the base of our trees. I will probably need to split a good quarter of the wood into pieces that actually make sense for our fireplace. I chose Mulch and Stone because it was the best-priced half cord delivery I could find-- I didn't think I wanted to pay an extra $100 just to have someone deliver AND stack the wood. Now I'm not so sure. While I really don't need the stacking service, I would rather pay more for a delivery of consistent wood than have to re-split logs, shovel mulch off the driveway and find creative new places in the yard to spread it. read more

On October 5, 2022, I ordered 10 cubic yards of leaf compost from this company. I paid $36.30 per yard, plus a fuel surcharge of $18.00, plus sales of $21.78, for a total of $402.78. The leaf compost was delivered on October 10, 2022, and I immediately began loading the compost into my lawn spreader and my yard cart. I kept track of how many times I filled the spreader and the cart. My spreader has a maximum capacity of 7.2 cubic feet, and my cart holds 53 gallons (7.09 cubic feet). I filled the spreader 7 times and the cart 19 times, and there were 15 gallons (2.01 cubic feet) left over, which amounts to a total of 6.93 cubic yards. This means that I received 3 fewer yards than I ordered. On October 20, 2022, in response to an email request from the company for a review, I explained all of this and requested either 3 more yards of the compost or a refund of what I paid for the 3 yards I did not receive. I also explained that one of my security cameras was focused on the pile of compost and could be reviewed to prove my claims, and I offered to provide a copy of the footage. I followed up to ask when I would receive a reply. After no reply, I sent similar information to the company via the contact page on the company website. Having still received no reply, I phoned the Edgewater office of the company and explained that I had left my complaint via the website. The person I spoke to said the owners were the ones who monitored the website and that they had been ill. I said I understood, and asked for a phone number where I could reach one of the owners. I called and left a message, and I called again but no one responded. I left another message on the website contact page, but still received no response. read more

Be careful buying something sight unseen. I needed 6 tons of marble chips, but I really wanted to see the size and color of the rock (which changes significantly when washed) before committing to buying it. I reached out to the company via their website requesting a sample. They did not respond - rough start... I called asking if I could drive all the way there and see the stone. The person on the phone politely told me that was not allowed. So I had to make an $800 decision based on 3 or 4 pictures on their website. The delivery guys were great (on schedule and friendly) and let me pull a handful off of the truck prior to dumping. The description and photos say 3/4" and qualify that it 1/2"-1". Exactly what we were looking for. Unfortunately, the size definitely goes beyond 1", so not exactly what we were expecting. The photos show and the descriptions say "white" several times. Unfortunately, when they are washed there are grays and tans mixed in. But, the truck was in the driveway and I had to choose whether to settle for this stone or pay $100 to tell them to turn around. So we settled. We still LIKE how our project turned out, but we wanted to LOVE it, especially because it was much more than just $800 of stone. It would have been nice to have my original request to see the stone accommodated in some way, so we could have been fully informed before committing to the purchase. First, we have lived in our home for the past 10 years. We have purchase bulk mulch for our yard every year. We know what 15 Cubic Yards of mulch looks like when sitting in our driveway. We requested and purchased 15 Cubic Yards of Black Mulch to be delivered to our home. Delivery was made when promised but Mulch and Stone only delivered maybe 8 Cubic Yards of mulch. When we complained about the delivery shortage Mulch and Stone requested we measure the pile on all sides and the height. Then they stopped responding to our telephone calls and emails. Mulch and Stone offers free delivery of their products because they will only deliver you half of what you ordered while charging you for the full amount goods you ordered. Under no circumstances would I recommend this business to anyone that is looking for good reliable and honest service. My landscape contractor that installed our mulch and stated" the quality of the mulch is poor and the delivery can't be more than 7-8 yards. We had to pay for an additional purchase of 10 yards of mulch and extra labor for installation due to this company poor business practices. Jeff G. read more

The service was awful. I ordered top soil on Friday and was promised next day delivery before 11. After being promised the delivery on Saturday, I hired a contractor to help me spread the top soil. At 12, I called the store and was told the truck was still on its way but running late. By 5 the top soil had not arrived so I called and didn't reach anyone. Two days later I was able to get in touch with the owner who informed me the truck broke down and I assured me I would be getting a discount since the store did not bother to keep me updated with the status of my delivery. The delivery finally showed up on Wednesday, four days late, and there was no discount as the owner had promised. After calling to speak with the owner on four separate occasions, never once receiving a returned call, I decided to switch companies for future deliveries. So, I've used this company about 6 times over the last 4 or 5 years. I've gotten stone and firewood from them. I really have two reviews. For stone I give them an A+. They came when they said they would come and they dropped off the material where I designated and they gave what I thought was the right amount. Firewood is another story. The first time I got semi seasoned wood. In my opinion this wood was still very wet. I was very disappointed but, was willing to give them another shot. The second time I got seasoned wood. The wood I received was not much better. I considered that wood semi seasoned. Also with both loads of wood I got more than a wheel barrels worth of material that appeared to new scraped off the dirt. That wasn't a deal breaker but, something unexpected and a pita to have to deal with especially if the wood is dumped on a finished surface. For the wood service I give them a D. It is this reason why I will never buy wood from them again. I still get stone from them however just this week in fact and they continue to perform. My last wood delivery was about two years ago. Hopefully they have changed there ways on things. read more

Ordered gravel and it was delivered where I said NOT to put it. All they had to do was read the delivery notes. The driveway is tar and chip and cannot be scraped with a tractor bucket. Thanks for adding a ton of manual work to pick out the stones by hand from the gravel. No attempt to contact me before delivery or after my complaint. I was very disappointing in the last shipment I received and they did a terrible job for customer satisfaction. I requested the stones to be dropped off at the bottom of the driveway, close to where I had two previous soil deliveries, and the driver dropped them off on the street, sidewalk and beginning of the driveway. This blocked myself and wife from even being able to use our driveway. I called them and the guy on the phone, same one that confirmed the notes in the morning for the drop location, said the manager was out. The next day I did not receive a call back and I decided to call them again. The manger said the driver had to drop off there because of power lines. First issue is that I also texted the driver that day, after receiving a call from him, to let him know if there were any issues to give me a call, and a call was never made to me. Second, there are no lines that would have been in the way and there are lower lines where he ended up dropping stones. None of this made sense and the manager said she would let me know what can be done. I ended up having to pay someone $150 to move the stones so I would be able to do my landscaping work and have a driveway to park into. The manager, Carleen, never called me back, and early the following week I sent an email instead and she replied that there is nothing they would do. This company has communication and supplying compensation issues, which I will now use another company for my landscaping needs. read more

We were tired of making numerous trips to the local home improvement store buying 30+ bags of mulch per trip (usually we would go thru about 100 bags each spring), so decided to look into bulk mulch delivery. After some searching, we found Mulch and Stone...their prices were the best around (per cubic yard) and they had free delivery. Most other places were charging at least $90 for a delivery fee. Their website is very simple and easy to use...just pick the product you want, the quantity, and your delivery date. We received a call when the driver was about 15 minutes out from our house. This gave us some time to get tarps out and move our car out from the garage. Driver was super courteous and very precise in dumping the mulch where we wanted it in our driveway. This is our first time ordering mulch from this place. At first I was very excited about it, especially because a friend referred them. I love referrals and supporting small businesses. But unfortunately, the delivery was set for Friday, and nothing was delivered. Not a call, not a nothing. I had to call them to find out what was going on. They promptly returned my call the next morning which was greatly appreciated, however our plan for spreading the mulch was ruined. We had hired guys to come early morning Saturday to spread the mulch, and we pretty much had to reorganize everything. Ultimately, their mulch looks great, however don't expect service to be top notch. And hopefully this is just a one off thing that happened. read more

I don't ever write reviews, but I was so appalled by the treatment I received that I had to write one this time. The product I ordered was not what was delivered, both the size of the stone and the amount were wrong. The company did not contact me as they promised they would, before delivery so we weren't able to be there or to inspect the product before it was dumped. When I called to get a resolution, I was told I was ridiculous and was hung up on by a woman. I called back and asked to speak to the owner and was told by a man, that he was the owner. I started to explain my issue again and got the exact same result. I highly recommend steering clear from these folks. After all this, we went to Tri-state stone and had absolutely NO issues, they were great, but we're still out $2k and have a many tons of a product we didn't order from Mulch and Stone. read more
