I have been to Mullets quite a few times. They always have a friendly and bustling atmosphere with a variety of clientele. There is always a special on something either food or drink if you ask. And sometimes they have live music. While I've never been here when they had live music, I've heard good things. I have never had issues with the food here or the drinks either. Generally I go for the catfish po boy and a long island. They never let me down. I used to get the frogs legs until recently they were no longer on the menu, that made me sad. But I haven't been there in a few months and maybe they will be back next time I stop out. Definitely recommend this place for great fried fish especially cat fish or blue gill. read more

Came here the night before st. Patrick's day. They had live music during the day and free shuttle to and from the parade. We have been here a few times, the food is always 8/10 and the service is 7/10. This particular day the waitress misheard my girlfriend and we received pickle chips instead of fish and chips. We were looking strangely at her plate of food and the waitress noticed immediately there was a problem. She put a new order in immediately and remedied the situation, we received the correct food in 10 min. Very pleased with our servers ambition to fix the misunderstanding. The environment makes this place. It's located right on the bike path, right by the Icubs park, and the river. It's a little dark, a little old fashioned, and just right. Went to Des Moines in early August for a day trip and stopped in here for lunch. Had to sit outside since there was no space at the bar. Wouldn't have been an issue, except it was very hot that day and the umbrella didn't provide much shade. Decided to try their breaded pork tenderloin, which is basically a schnitzel sandwich. I thought it was very good and better to eat with a knife and fork since it was much bigger than the bun. We loved our server Alisha this morning! She was a bright spot to our day. I could tell she was the best server working the breakfast shift. She was very busy but always cheerful. Now, the food. Delicious!! My husband had the chorizo hash browns and those came with scrambled eggs & English muffin/toast. He was mmmmmm'ing over every bite. I chose the "morning mullet" which is half order biscuits and gravy, hash browns, and eggs. The hash browns were the best part, cooked perfectly crispy. The gravy was pretty darn tasty, if not the best gravy I've ever had, it hit the spot. Go here early if you're going for Saturday morning breakfast, because it fills up quickly. "Meh" food. I have had the chicken and waffles a few times now. I only got this as it was the only way to get waffles any time of the day - I really was looking for breakfast food....which you can get, but options are unfortunately very limited. The waffles are mediocre at best - no flavor. Also, waitresses have been a hit or miss, and same with service. The first time my waitress was awesome and service was quick, the second time my waitress was not very happy to start with. On top of that, I sat for 10 minutes before my drink order was taken. Then it took another 5 to get my drink. This second experience was on a Friday afternoon at 5. It was somewhat busy but not packed by any means. Won't be back. read more

My Moscow Mule(s) were fabu and the overall experience was really good. I was really impressed by Mullets! We were in town for a concert and wanted a great place for brunch. With help from Yelp, we ended up here and I am so glad that we did! I love that you have the option to eat on the roof. Being able to sit up there and enjoy the view was a great start to the day. Its right on the bike trail so there were a lot of bikers that parked and came in. I thought that was really cool. The food was great. I loved my French Toast. Now that the weather is getting better, Mullets is always a fun place to roll over to on your bike! Right off the bike path this is a great beer and food stop! They have lots of options for better then average bar food, including quite a few good things for Vegans or Veggie friendly bike riders.. They have a great burrito, great veggie burger, and there salads are huge! I must admit I do like the fries, and onion rings as well! One of my favorite things about this place is how much outdoor seating they have! They have a rooftop deck and also, picnic tables outside, perfect for stopping and chilling in the sun after and I-Cubs game or a pit stop on an afternoon bike ride! The service is always pretty good as well! The inside of Mullet's does not have a ton of character and the bathroom's sometimes are pretty smelly but what it lacks in coolness I can forgive because the food is good, the people are great, and the outdoor seating rules! read more

Another spot in Des Moines I've been waiting to try since I've moved here! Came here with a group of coworkers last week during lunch and had a great time! Located right next to the Scott St Bridge, the view of Downtown Des Moines and the river is very nice! They were not busy during the lunch hour so we were serviced quick and without issues. We started off with Beef Brisket Nachos to share and I had the Cajun PoBoy which contained fried shrimp and crawfish! The nachos were very flavorful and came hot, it was a good sized portion. The Cajun PoBoy was fantastic! They packed everything onto this sandwich and it was a challenge just to close it up and handle it! I got fries with the PoBoy and they were very good as well. The atmosphere is very casual and the theme is mullets (the fish and the hairstyle), I thought this was very clever. I always wanted to try their breakfast menu which looks very appetizing. Went here with a friend right after a big rain so sitting outside wasn't a great option. That said, we sat inside by a window and were promptly waited on and got our drink order in and delivered right away. Drinks were fine - I got a margarita that was OK, but nothing remarkable, and my dining partner got a tall gin and tonic that was good. We put in our food order and it was delivered very quickly. I got the half rack of ribs and they were very tender and pretty tasty. They have BBQ sauce - one choice - which was fine. The ribs had a good taste and the sides were good - I had fries and pasta salad - high marks for the fries, and the pasta salad was decent. My dining partner had the 2 meat combo with burnt ends and pork, and comes with two sides. He enjoyed the BBQ items as well.
