Food and service are always fantastic! I never leave hungry or thirsty and all the servers are always the most pleasant and nice humans! My only complaint is the hosts tend to be young, rude and downright awful. Every time this past summer the young hosts have been so rude that it makes not wanting to visit. Mullets is always a great place to visit if you're near downtown Des Moines! It's one of my favorite places to unwind and enjoy a drink or two. I've always been able to try new beverages when I come here and have found some pretty great new drinks that I'd have never tried before. The food here is very good and I'm always looking forward to their new specials they post on Facebook. Craving some friend pickles nearby my work and this place pulled up near my work. Texted my cousin and we met up for a quick lunch. Located by the river. This would be awesome place in summer time. Note breakfast is not served all day -- but there are some breakfast items which are and identified on menu that are. Fried pickle chips - deep fried dill pickles were crispy and cornmeal type better. Served with ranch. Sweet potato tots - either can order sweet or savory style. We got the sweet with marshmallow dipping sauce. I usually don't order sweet potatoes but this was delicious. Fried chicken and waffles - expecting fried chicken pieces, but got more of a chicken fillet/tender sliced. Over all waffle was good and chicken was crispy. Pulling up to mullets you see the big fish and outdoor recreation area. The front door is a bit hard to find as we sillily walked around the building. Going in you see all the picture of mullets and it's hilarious. We were sat quickly and waited on. Our waitress was very sweet. The food was ok we weren't as impressed by the food. We loved the metal cups for the drinks. It is a fun experience we can say we had. read more

Just returned home after taking my wife to lunch at Mullets in Ames, Iowa today 10/14. Never have I experienced such horrible service, waited 1hr. 20 minutes for an order that was never delivered, after asking the waitress what the delay was, she said they were running behind in the kitchen. Tip: Via the Yelp app, you can very conveniently both view the waitlist and add your name to it. Viewing the list, you can see both how long the wait is and how many parties are currently waiting. Before setting out from the airport I placed my name on the waitlist, and when we arrived we only had to wait five minutes. We were given menus as we were seated, and our exceptionally helpful and friendly server took our drink orders and made several spot-on suggestions. All throughout our meal, he provided attentive and efficient service :-) Both the breakfasts completely hit the spot! The food was presented well and tasted wonderful. Add to that the fact that our outdoor seating gave us a great view of the nearby biking/walking trail, and our dining experience was a total hit! We are always looking for fun unique places to dine when we are traveling. This was our second time going for breakfast at Mullets. They have good sized portions and the food is tasty. I will say that the level of cleanliness as we walked along the outside of the building past the kitchen exit and onto the entrance was appalling. Empty cardboard boxes were piled in a heap as though they had just been pitched out the door. Next we came to full garbage bags swarming with flies that had their pick of garbage or whatever was behind door number 2 as it swung open and closed for them to fly inside. Yuck! read more

I'm still dreaming of my breakfast burrito from Mullets. It was dense, perfectly pressed, and darn tasty when dipped into the salsa verde on the side. If you dig breakfast burritos, you GOTTA try this. But I'm getting ahead of myself... This place was packed on a Saturday morning! Bikes, motorcycles, and cars flooded the parking lot to the point where we had to park on the bridge across the street. Even so, we only waited for a few minutes in line before they sat us at a booth close to the door. People were clearly ready to party even early on a Saturday, shots were flowing to the outside seating, so this place is pretty fun too! I needed a little hair of the dog so started with a Bloody Mary to accompany my burrito. It hit the spot! Others at my table tried the meatloaf hash browns, jalapeño bacon, pigs and pancakes, and more standard hungry man meal. Everyone cleaned their plates! The menu was diverse enough to offer everything one dreams of on a weekend morning (or weekday, for that matter). It's a no frills joint and while we sat inside, I really dug the outdoor seating. It's on the river so you can catch a breeze and lookout onto the baseball stadium. I was really impressed when all is said and done! My 2nd time eating at Mullets, though I know it is a Des Moines staple. Came with my family from out of town, who had Mullets last time they were in DM and needed to come back, if that says anything. I would say don't expect anything fancy here, but still great. Enjoy the bulletin board of real life people and their mullets when you enter. They were exceptionally busy for a Monday morning/lunch in my opinion. I really wanted to try the breakfast pizza on the menu but noticed it was a full pizza and too much for just myself to order. I compromised for the red velvet pancakes (I do like sweet bfast and red velvet is some of my favorite treats). I enjoyed but maybe would like a little more icing on the side, since I didn't think mixing the icing and syrup was ideal. My cakes came with eggs and bacon too, average no complaints. I can't speak for anyone else buuuttttt, everyone at our table seemed to enjoy their meal as well. Service was also good. I wanted to mention, they also have really fun Mullets merchandise for sale. the biggest mistake they could have made was taking away their delicious brisket mac and cheese pizza!! i used to eat at this place weekly, the staff is friendly(usually) and quick service. however i will not be returning after discovering they no longer serve pizza. the whole vibe isnt what it used to be, they are too caught up in being trendy to appeal to cyclists in the area. and really only serve brunch...they are only open till 3 also, very disapointing as a famous local south side spot yet again falls to gentrification. :( would not reccomend wasting your money here, much better places in dsm. read more

Hey, it's a good place. I took my mom with me because we both needed a Bloody Mary. She makes the best at home, but I'd heard good things about Mullets. The Bloody Mary did not disappoint. I've actually been to Mullets a couple of times and had the same waitress both times. She was sweet, entertaining, and attentive when needed. I started writing this before I became a vegan, so please bear with me on my memory. I had the eggs benedict which was cooked to perfection. The English Muffin wasn't over toasted and wasn't soggy from the egg. There was ample hollandaise sauce, but wasn't smothered in it. It was delicious. We got a side of biscuits and gravy and it was hot (in temperature), and had a nice smoky taste to it. We would definitely go back to Mullets! It came with no gravy, dry, flavorless and not what I ordered! So glad I could come all the way home to figure this out! Barely ate half because it wasn't what I wanted and was just hungry for breakfast. The girl on the phone was rude, cut me off and basically was pushing me off the phone and still didn't get what I ordered. Very upset and disappointed. It was tasty with scrambled eggs loaded with pepper, onion, jalapeño, sausage, and bacon topped with a load of cheese. But I think I might just stick with an omelet next time (or try the burrito). Mullets has some of the best bbq in Des Moines. They recently stopped selling ribs but the brisket sandwich is still a hit! For breakfast, my go-to is the chicken and waffles. I have gone to Mullets many times since they opened. During the first couple years the place was excellent, food was great and delicious. They hit a stretch with some poor quality everything. Didn't come back here until recently and it has improved from then. The place has a great view of Principal Park and he river, like the outdoor patio and upper deck. The inside has a ton of mullet pictures. This recent trip I went with the Breakfast Rarebit sandwich with hash browns, was very good. Breakfast is something that this place has always done very well. We also got the shrimp po boy sandwich with fries, good too. Have yet to try any of the Woody's bbq offerings here, but I do like the Woody's restaurant. One other really good thing here is the sweet potato tots with creamy marshmallow dipping sauce. read more

First off, we had a large group in town for a basketball tournament. We were fresh off of a few poor experiences with customer service. This restaurant (which can typically fit many people with an outdoor area, but it was 20 degrees today) busy on a Sunday morning accommodated for our group of 15-17 people without any signs of being irritated or frustrated. Great work! As far as the food, it was AMAZING. So many unique options for breakfast, yet you still have your home-base items (French toast, pancakes, plates with eggs & meat, etc.).
