I'm surprised by the mixed bag of reviews for Mulligan's... we had a pretty dang good meal here. Actually, the big thing holding me back from a higher-starred review was our rather expensive dinner check. (One hundred bucks for dinner for 2 adults and a teenager... at a bar... and the only alcoholic drink(s) were a couple of beers? Yup, a little steep!) Dan had the Kobe beef burger, which was good, but not great. J. had fish and chips, which were gone before I even saw them, so they must have been tasty. I had the Long Island duckling, which was good, but a little overcooked, and I felt lacked a more flavorful sauce. (We had some really yummy wings to start, and the fries that accompanied the burger were soooo good!) Very attentive and kind servers and waitstaff, and I would probably go back again, but try other things. (3.5 stars for now.) read more

I tried Mulligan's on the advice of a local, in spite of 1 bad review here. My wife and I sat in the dining room, rather than the tavern, and there were no tv's, just a nice oldies soundtrack. The parking lot was a tough go, though. The menu was surprisingly large, and there was a good selection of bottled and draft beers, as well as reasonably-priced wines by the bottle or glass and even single-malt scotch whiskeys. Most of the menu seemed to be very good value, although a serving of mussels was not. New England clam chowder was respectable, although mine had a little bit of grit. I think that if you are expecting haute cuisine, this is not the place for you. If you stick to basics, you'll do ok. The service was friendly and attentive. read more

The food was really tasty. I have the pot roast, that was on special with a side of mashed potatoes and green beans. They also had a good seasonal Moscow mule. However, normally the roast was listed at $24, but today the special had it at 17. At $17, it's a pretty good Pot roast. And at $24, it gets to be really expensive for what it is. The staff was friendly, and the atmosphere was inviting. I just didn't expect to pay high LA prices, in Vermont. But maybe my expectation level needs to be adjusted. That being said, if I'm in the neighborhood I'll go back and eat, but I won't go out of my way to eat here, and that's only because the price is a little bit disproportionate to the quality of food. read more

After a day skiing or shopping we've visited Mulligan's a couple times. Each time having a large group they have been pretty accommodating. Onion soup is disappointing. For $8 I would have expected this to be much larger and filled with onions and a tastier broth. It was bland and unfullfilling. My husband got the chicken fajitas ($15) and I got the steak and mushroom bake ($12). That was awesome! Meat in a delicious gravy with mushrooms topped with a mashed potato crust. We stopped by Mulligans for lunch after a morning of shopping and enjoyed our simple meal. We shared fish & chips and a French Dip sandwich; both were delicious, and so were the crispy fries served with both (and dill pickle spears, too). Regrettably, the cole slaw wasn't homemade and had way too much mayonnaise for our taste. Our server was courteous, the service was quick, and the prices were fair. The restaurant has a comfortable, dark, woody bar with a good selection of craft beers. The dining areas are spread out through the house. A nice place, a good experience, we'll be back. read more

Mulligans has the best nachos in Manchester. It is a huge platter of nachos, there is no meat but enough for 2 people to share it. We usually take some home too. The staff are always friendly and we never wait long for a table. I love the beers. read more

Despite some mediocre reviews, my mother and I decided to give Mulligan's a try as we arrived in Manchester, VT on a Wednesday, which is apparently THE day of the week when NO restaurants are open. It was a bit slow getting a table, even though the restaurant was not super busy. however, being from a tourist town. we understand how shorthanded all establishments are when it comes to people willing to work these days, so I am giving them a pass on that. We were seated at a nice table, our waitress was very efficient, shy but friendly. I had the steak salad and my mother had a rueben....much to our delight, both meals were very good as well as filling. No complaints here!! Went there for dinner, and had a good meal at a fair price. This place is not going to knock your socks off, but you won't be disappointed but the size of the menu or the quality of the food. They serve more than bar food, and everyone will find something that they like. Beer variety is good. Service tends to be fair, not great in the restaurant but better at the bar. Good place to stop for lunch on a rainy Saturday. We had struck out on being able to hike and enjoy the outdoors. Done with a bit of shopping we headed to Mulligans. The hostess was awful to the bar staff, trying to sell tickets for the Belmont stakes. Decent beer selection with a smattering of local stuff. We ate here 2 nights on a row we loved it so much the first night. We had the Asian Pork loin, Chicken Milanese with roasted potatoes. Everything was cooked perfectly. Last night we had garlic parmesan chicken wings which great. My girlfriend had the French Dip Sandwich which was good. The service was very good both nights. My hubby and I were driving through Manchester after I finished doing hair and makeup for a wedding. I hadn't eaten much all day and I was definitely a bit hangry. I ordered a drink not on the menu and when it wasn't quite right out amazing waitress Darlene made it right! Food was a quick turnaround time and delicious! We stopped in after an afternoon of hiking up to Prospect Rock. Beautiful spot. We chose to sit in the pub and were seated quickly and given the drink menu. They had a nice selection of craft beer on tap. We all had the shock top summer ale. I chose the Bangers and mashed(when in Mulligan's) my wife had the fried oysters and my sister in-law had a nice chicken club sandwich. All selections were very well done. Been coming to Mulligan's for over 10 years and never did a review, so here it goes. We usually sit in the bar area with for the games and family good-times. As far as a pub experience, the menu is large with burgers, sandwiches and lots of apps; all good + the beer selection is respectful. The food has not changed much over the years, but the prices certainly have. The management has really hiked-up the costs over the last 2 years or so and now Mulligans is not the local value it used to be. A small nacho, 2 sandwiches and a couple of beers for $70...really? That being said, Mulligan's is a staple in Manchester and a good time. By the way, don't forget to checkout "Man-of Kent" on Rt7 on your way to Manchester for tastier sandwiches, more sophisticated beer selection and of course better prices!! read more

The good reviews of this joint are obviously engineered by friends and family of staff/owner. Anyone coming to Manchester should avoid this tired dive-bar experience. . . walk in to an empty podium because the sad waitresses are all somewhere else dealing with the huge drama of working in a restaurant. . . walk past rooms with diners adamantly staring at the door looking for their waitress. . . half the staff has a very bad case of the sniffles and keep disappearing. . . the bartenders walk away from the bar for 20 minutes at a time to go talk or are too busy eating or complaining to give you service. But, hey if there actually is anyone around you have the opportunity to pay $27.50 for a greasy cold basket of fish and chips and ONE beer. read more

Wasn't sure what to expect...... so I went in with a clean slate. We ordered the SIX perogie appetizer......but only got five and when I asked the waitress she said the order depends on who is doing the cooking that night....... really? ----- Unbelievable!!!!!! Then friends of ours never received their appetizer.... then the main courses came out.... everything was good... hot.. and tasty..... still didn't get the app... so when it came time for the bill she reminded the waitress to not charge her for it because they did not receive it... The waitress then said oh yeah I forgot to order it... It's been very busy this evening all at once... We are very busy blah blah blah.....she should have been offered dessert or something to compensate... But nothing was offered... Suprised?... not really! Overall service other than these two things is ok.... Food is good... atmosphere ok... and the bar area even though we were in another room was very loud.... would I go back?... Huge portions no matter what you order! I had the fish and chips which was excellent! My friends had the burger which was huge as well and very tasty. The dessert portions were well worth the price and probably the best desserts anywhere in town we have the cheesecake and the brownie sundae. read more

Mulligans Pub offers mostly pub food but with daily specials that bring it above the standards pub. I had the works burger with buffalo meat, and it was excellent. I am a French fry snob, and didn't care for their fries as they are thin- I prefer heartier ones. Great selection of local beers. I found the waitress pleasant enough- not too overbearing, but attentive. I was dining alone, and have found that wait staff don't quite know how to interact with someone eating alone. Please get rid of that hostess. After last night, I started reading recent reviews and it seems everyone is greeted with a scowl from her when they walk in the door. Seems she's been there for years without being fired or spoken to by the owners about her manners. For all I know, she is one of the owners herself. She must be locked into her job here because she is rude and terrible. The hostess is the face of any restaurant establishment, and her face said, "Get the hell out of here!" from the moment we walked in. We only wanted a few drinks and maybe a pub food offering. The food was 5 stars. My friend and I both ordered two different kinds of burgers with drinks. For a local restaurant it is in both a nice location and a welcome addition to a restaurant filled Manchester. Why 3 stars and not 5? Shelby our waitress went out of her way to not only act bored and make us feel uncomfortable to ask for additional glasses of water or drinks. My friend and I both observed the conduct of the other waitresses at Mulligans were world's better then Shelby. A positive attitude goes a long way. read more

We chose Mulligan's after a recommendation from a hotel clerk. Well, it was disappointing. We had no problems getting in on a Saturday night without reservations, so that was good. The ambiance is cozy in the dining room so that's good too. But, that's where the 'good' ends. Our waiter was friendly enough, but he kept promising to bring water, but never did until after we got our meals. We had a question and when asked, the waiter was a little rude and said "well if you read the menu you'll see......" We did read the menu and that's why we had a question! Both my friend and I ordered burgers. I ordered mine medium rare - it came out medium well. My friend ordered hers medium well - it came out well done. Both of us felt the burgers were dry and lacked seasoning. The fries were okay; but nothing special. Not so sure I'd go back again. read more

The service was horrible. Waitrees asked my wife if she is sure she wanted to order the fried chicken dish. When we asked why, she said I never had it and it did not look good to me. Then she tells us it is a very popular dish, what???? Food was good but not hot. If not for the owner we might have never got our food. Excuse was we are backed up. Owner comes over and we told him we are watching other tables get their food that came in a good 20 minutes after us and he runs to the back and brings out our food. They forgot my sons fries and again the onwner takes care of that. More drinks, again the owner. He became our waiter. He did give us free Irish coffees to try and make up for it. This is a solid American food place in Manchester. It is very kid friendly and we have been coming here regularly for the last many years. Burgers and salads are great (lately they have also had some amazing smoked fish platters), and the draft beer selection is very good with a fair number of local brews. read more

People in Manchester seem to rave about this place, but really I don't think there is anything to rave about. Their food is terrible. I have had the hummus and guacamole wrap several times and it is still gross. "Let's just stick a half a cup of hummus on this wrap and call it vegetarian." I tried their veggie fajitas on a whim too, but was disappointed there as well. This is one of those places that you can easily pass up and not miss out on anything. read more
