What's the last thing you want in life? Broken AC when it's 110º outside? Car dies in the middle of the desert? Forgot your wallet when the check comes for dinner? Well, I had the first one happen to me this week and it was miserable. It was 110º outside, and 97º inside. We have an old home (1906) and there are few walls that are properly insulated. I always stress this time of year knowing AC can die at any time, and it did. I looked through the ads here, and we always try to use local, small businesses - especially since the last two years have destroyed so many of them. Ricardo texted me very quickly after I asked for a quote here. He stated that he would try to get to me to look the same day, which in and of itself a miracle. He continued texting me throughout the day, giving me his status, even though he was swamped. Later in the day, he texted saying he was on his way after finishing one small job. He arrived and I showed him the unit. We sat and talked while he opened it up and started cleaning the usual spider webs, etc., from the condenser case. Ricardo then replaced one or two small pieces in the unit and put the cover back on. I hesitated but was excited to go inside to flip the switch. I was hesitant because I feared it would still not work... Well, guess what, it did! I mean, it was like the best Xmas gift I've ever received, and it's only September :) Needless to say I would never hesitate for one second to recommend Ricardo to anyone, or use him again. He never once tried to upsell or otherwise scam me while I was clearly in desperation, which as we all know, happens a lot. I got lucky - real lucky that my first contact turned out to be amazing! I wish I could give Ricardo ten stars! I called him Saturday morning and he was able to come out to my house towards the end of his work day. He was incredibly friendly, respectful, and knowledgeable, definitely an expert in his domain. He was able to diagnose my weird rooftop combination AC/furnace and order a replacement circuit board. Once the part arrived, he came back and did the repair, patched up a few cracks in the casing, and even pulled out a few small trees growing out of my gutters, haha. While I haven't yet had occasion to hire Multi Air Service for a job, the encounter I just had with the owner, Ricardo, gave me a good deal of insight into what kind of person he is and, I think I can say with some confidence, into what kind of service he provides to his customers. I was in need of a 3' long piece of flex duct for a simple DIY job. I wasn't eager to buy a 25' box of the stuff, because what was I going to do with the other 22'? Throw it in the trash? Then I had the bright idea (it happens, rarely) to call an HVAC service, on the theory that they might have some leftover pieces from installation/repair jobs. I called Multi Air, and Ricardo said he would check to see what he had and get back to me. True to his word, he texted me back, and not only did he have exactly what I needed, but he also delivered it to my home, right when he said he would! And, incredibly, he did all this without any expectation of receiving anything in return. (I did offer him a little bit of money--in retrospect too little. Sorry, Ricardo!) On top of all of this, he made a very professional, personable impression. What more could anyone ask for? I had called Ricardo one morning after my usual guy didn't have openings til October... My husband was having an issue with a recently installed (by another company) mini split during consecutive 90+degree days and it was getting so hot inside that his computer was over heating and couldn't work. Ricardo was able to come by same day and was extremely polite, communicative, professional, and left no stone unturned in trying to sort the issue. He even left us with some tips and product to help keep the machine tip top. He was honest about the issue, sorted it, charged a very reasonably price and seemed like a really nice guy. I also would like to note that he was extremely respectful and clean with the surrounding area which both my husband and I really appreciate. I have a small commercial HVAC for our small business that hasn't been used for several months. The circuit breaker tripped off and we contacted a local HVAC dealer that specialized in that type of HVAC unit. After being charged a service fee, we were told the unit was too old and replacing a $800 part + service there was no guarantee that it would work. We bought this HVAC unit 6 years ago and I thought it was absurd that the unit was too old to service. I decided to get a 2nd opinion and contacted Ricardo. Ricardo did respond to my voice message within 15 minutes and we scheduled a time he would show up. He was good through out the day letting me know his status and when he would arrive. When Ricardo arrived he was polite and went to work on our HVAC unit. He found that our capacitor and the cooling fan were not functioning within 45 minutes. Ricardo explained to me the breakdown thoroughly of the items that needed replacing and I was happy to find out our HVAC didn't need a complete replacement. Even through Ricardo did not have the replacement part for our cooling fan, we did schedule a time to have it replaced on another day. He did show up the scheduled time and replaced the cooling fan. Ricardo is excellent. Labor Day weekend and a heatwave with temperatures reaching 115° in Pasadena this weekend. Highly recommend him if you are I the local Pasadena area. He managed to come to me within about 1 hour of my call, fitting me in between two other appointments. He had the parts needed to repair my AC with him. Tested everything, and got it running in 30 minutes. Totally reasonable charges for the work done and the parts installed. As a property manager, I have used the services of numerous HVAC companies. I can unequivocally say that Ricardo at Multi Air Service is exceptional. Earlier this year, I had another HVAC company come out the the apartment next door to the one that Ricardo visited for the exact same issue. The technician from the other company detected that there was a problem, but was sorely lacking in coming up with a solution for the problem. That technician's suggestion was to upgrade the 3" pipes with 4" pipes, which would have proven extremely costly. Not only did Ricardo educate me on the uses of the different types of furnace filters, he also pointed out a minor issue with a cover on an exhaust stack that should be corrected, and provided the correct solution to the problem at a reasonable cost. I am so glad I finally found someone who actually knows what they are doing. Multi Air Service is a keeper! read more

When our air conditioner went out last Thursday, I started researching HVAC companies, and fortunately for us, found Multi Air Service. Although we were sweating to death, my foremost goal was to secure someone who had a track record which indicated that they were more than capable of doing reliable work while at the same time not taking advantage of us and overcharging. I put out a Yelp search email and one of the first ones to call was Ricardo. He was very informative on the phone, and offered to come out that same evening after he finished a job, but we decided to wait until the next day. He even offered to let us use a coupon to save on the service call, which we greatly appreciated! He kept us informed of his ETA and showed up exactly on time the next day. Even in sweltering heat, Ricardo managed to quickly ascertain the genesis of our problem. All in all he was here less than 1 and 1/2 hours while he repaired our non-working air conditioner. The entire time he was here, Ricardo was upbeat, friendly, and determined to find the cause of our problem and expeditiously and economically resolve it for us. There was no attempt at "upselling" or gouging, which, given the 105 degree temperature weather, was something that we had been concerned about. Instead, he shared some tips that we could do ourselves to help the compressor stay cool, and some other helpful information on the maintenance of our unit. In sum, our experience with Ricardo was very positive and we are more than happy to give him a rating of 5 stars! read more

I don't really know why he is getting such stellar reviews. I think Ricardo is very friendly and responsive with communication, but I don't think he knows much about AC repair. The fan on our AC unit wouldn't stop running and I asked Ricardo to come out to see if the fan switch just needed to be reset. He came out and decided that we needed a new circuit board. Then after a while the fan had the same issue-so I called him again to see if he can look at the problem again. He said he would stop by, and didn't. Then he told my wife he would be here in the am, instead arriving at 5p. Then told her a bunch of stuff about air filters and thermostat that had nothing to do with the fan running issue. And finally he found a SECOND circuit board that needed resetting and that's finally what he did. So all of that unnecessary time wasted and random things that didn't need fixing, all because he didn't know what to do. And he charged me for all of it. Not impressed. read more

We have been having issues with our air conditioning off and on for a while now. I finally called an HVAC company to come take a look at our system. It has been crazy hot for the past week so i thought it would take a while to get a company to come out. I searched on Yelp and checked out different company reviews. I almost don't want to give this review because I want to keep Ricardo to myself! He is THE BEST. Our AC went out during the hottest time of the year and it was 90 degrees in our house. I called the first business that had good reviews and talked to Ricardo who squeezed me in between two clients, hoping it would be an easy fix. Unfortunately it wasn't so he left (so as not to put his other clients out) and came back after a long day (7:30!). Needless to say, the guy is honest, caring and passionate about his trade. I'm giving 4 stars due to the price as I was charged $22 just for two AA batteries which I thought was a bit much and had I been told ahead of time that was the price I would have opt out and bought my own pack of batteries for less then $10. Ricardo was very fast to reply to me even it was 6pm after business hours. He was willing to come by that evening to check out our AC unit. It was nice of him but told him to come by tomorrow so he has some daylight to see. He looked over our system and checked the basic unit and was please that the blower and compensator are okay. What we needed was just more freon. So instead of "making up" extra charges or seek out additional expenses, he gave us a fair price. I would recommend this guy for our AC unit. I even asked if I should get a new unit, his advise is no. Use it till it truly breaks (and we have an ancient AC). read more

We purchased a house and the inspector passed the central air output temp so assumed that everything was fine. Well when it hit 116 degrees outside, the central air could barely cool down the house a degree. I sent out several inquiries via yelp to different vendors and Ricardo was one of the first to reply and answer all of my questions before he even came out. He came the same day and performed a deep tune and topped off the freon since it was low. Wow what a difference! The air blows super cold and it cools down the house in a reasonable amount of time so that it can shut off when he reaches temp. If you haven't serviced your A/C in a while, I highly recommend Ricardo with his fair prices and excellent service.
