My experience with Neighborhood Tech Support (NTS) went from promising to disappointing, and…read moreultimately to positive and satisfying. My 6-year-old desktop PC developed startup and "Blue Screen of Death" (BSOD) problems caused by "Video TDR failure". Brian at NTS kept it overnight, said it was fixed; repair covered by a 30-day guarantee. Cost: $100. Emailed receipt did not include any description of the work done. At home, before long I got the BSOD again. I took it back to NTS. Brian replaced the video card and said he had tested the PC thoroughly and it was working fine. Cost: $60. At home the monitors I use were completely messed up. I called Brian who said he couldn't troubleshoot it over the phone, but would send a tech over in two days. William came and fixed the monitor situation--all seemed fine. :-) Later that day I got the BSOD again. :-( Very unhappy, I called NTS again. Brian said he couldn't think of anything else to do to fix the PC. It seemed I had wasted $160 and I wondered what a "30-day guarantee" actually meant. I emailed Rob Mathews ("Geek in charge") who called soon after and said I could bring the PC back and he would look it over, or if I wanted a new PC they could advise me and would set it up for me at no charge. I ordered a new PC and notified Rob when it arrived. He was very responsive and supportive, and Brian got it set up within a few hours, called twice to ask about my preferences for certain settings, and went through things carefully with me when I went to pick it up. I have been using the new PC for several days and it's working flawlessly. The whole experience involved 6 separate trips (dropping off and picking up) to NTS, plus many hours on my part dealing with my PC's problems, then purchasing and getting up-and-running on a new computer. While I feel the experiences with NT were uneven and unsatisfying at times, they came through in the end and I recommend their services, noting that it's worth persevering if initial results aren't satisfactory. Rob does care about the business, the service they offer, and potential negative reviews. I do think they should provide receipts that document the work done, and the guarantee they offer.

I called JT because my computer kept crashing for no apparent reason, and in trying to fix it, I…read moremade it worse. It wouldn't even boot. I looked for help on Craigslist and found JT. For a very reasonable fee he promised to fix the computer. He came to my house the next day and got it to work. I paid him and he left. 30 minutes after he left my computer rebooted on it's own again despite the newly installed operating system. I called him and he asked me to bring the computer to his place so he can figure it out. I did. In the next couple of days JT kept me updated on all the tests he had to perform (which often required pulling components out one by one to isolate the issue). The issue it turned out was a faulty motherboard. OUCH. He laid out my options for me and we decided that we can save the computer if I buy some new components for it. JT met me at Fry's Electronics and spent almost two hours with me selecting a new motherboard, and RAM. I got myself a larger internal hard drive as well. JT took the parts home and basically re-built my computer. This included installing a hard drive for me just because I asked him to. When I brought the computer home it worked like a charm. Still does. Now here's what makes JT great... ( aside from being competent, responsive, and friendly through the entire experience) ... he never charged me a penny more since that first night. Despite spending countless hours on my computer and coming to Fry's with me. JT, you're awesome and I hope people read this review and give you their business.

I've been in a wireless nightmare for ages (literally, a couple of years!)…read more I have a 4 year old Sony running Windows Vista, and a multitude of problems. First off, I wasn't able to connect to the internet. Either through wireless with the help of a friend setting everything up for me, or directly through a wired connection to the internet. I spent hours and hours and hours on the phone with Comcast, Netgear, etc, but it just wouldn't work. Today I finally gave up, called these Geek guys, and they had someone here within 2 hours. He said he'd been doing this for over 20 years, and I believe him! In minutes he determined that my wireless router was bad, and he grabbed a new one from his car. Wireless was up, and then he did a full 'tune up' on my machine, and, I swear to god it's running much MUCH faster now than when it was brand new years ago! I can take the laptop all the way out into the backyard, and with the router they installed the signal is perfect and the speed is just incredible!! I didn't know computers could be this FAST! I'm kicking myself for not calling them earlier, for the past 4 years my computer could have been running at this speed if I'd just called! It wasn't cheap. I paid for a new wireless router, a new antivirus program, and for their time. But GOD is it worth every penny! You have no idea how good it feels to just have my computer running RIGHT after years and years.
