I had seen this place a lot of times while driving by and was very keen on trying it out since it had some great reviews on yelp.. Me and my husband had ordered , schezwan fried rice and and chilli paneer, and I wasn't very impressed with the taste and the presentation. The schz.fried rice was not mixed well in the sauce and the veggies, as it had a lot of lumps of white rice that was plain inside, and the paneer was way too oily and soggy. We had also ordered a baida roti, and it was not only Not worth the price but was tasteless and cold. Another menu item that we ordered was samosa and they were dripping with oil, so much so that we could have filled it in a container and reused it. Well we basically tried all the veggie option except the baida roti, and we were absolutely not impressed with the food. Also we had visited the place on a weekend so since the place was also crowded and it took forever for the order to be served, and as I would conclude, the wait and the money that we spent was absolutely not worth it.. Unhygienic. Unprofessional. Worst experience in United States. We planned to go to the restaurant after seeing the response on yelp,but were highly disappointed. We are hard core Mumbaikars and this restaurant let us down. The moment you step in you get the feeling it's unhygienic and dont be surprised if you find the lady at the counter ( I think she is a co- manager) is having a snack in front of the customers. Still we decided let's not judge the book by its cover and ordered vada pav, shrimp/ Columbi masala, Malwani chicken curry. Vada pav was good. But the shrimp Curry was horrific. They didn't even put efforts to clean the shrimp from their hard cover,legs and tail. De- veining them is too much to ask for I guess. Malwani curry was even more pathetic. It was smelling sour and tasting foul. When we tried to raise a complain about it. The chef started screaming from the kitchen ' how can the recipe go wrong '. Instead of making a issue we simply chose to returned the dish and make ourself comfortable. When the bill arrived we were stunned to know we were charged for Malwani curry that we never ate. The restaurant is very unprofessional in the respect you can hear the female co- manager yelling and discussing their orders with the chef in kitchen while you are wanting to enjoy your delightful meal ( in case if you get some). We often go here when we have a hankering for Indian food. We feel that it is some of the best Indian that we've had. I am fond of the palak paneer and butter chicken. My partner enjoys the chicken korma (though he wishes that they had lamb korma on the menu). The only limitation for this restaurant is that it is not set-up for a whole lot of people. We went to Mumbai Chowk for our Valentine's Day dinner. It was an amazing experience! We had their trademark Bombil Fry (Bombay Duck) and it was exceptional. The Keema Pau took us back to the Irani restaurants back home. The Chicken Kolhapuri was authentically spicy and dal fry was finger licking tasty! The decor was so nostalgic and I was taken back in time when I used to live in Bombay. This is a low profile restaurant and I think they are able to maintain their quality as they do justice with each and every dish instead of using the same gravy for everything or dishing out from a freezer as would a big restaurant. I went to Mumbai Chowk last weekend. Few things stood out for me: 1) There were not enough helpers - 1 person was trying to do 3 people job. So as expected service was pretty slow. 2) After swiping the CC and signing the payment, I was not given the receipt. I stood there ~10 mins to get my receipt. I was almost sure owner is upto something as he was trying to avoid producing my receipt. Once owner produced my receipt, it had 15% service charge. And we were just two people. Owner adds 15% service charge to all the tables (irrespective of # of people) without informing the party. He hides this info by not producing the receipt for your payment. Where are the restaurant basics. Order of dahi Papdi chaat arrive,,,,,it was completely looking like dahi sev puri with sev sprinkled on top of it. See now this is completely deceiving to the description and what was written for dahi sev puri which was a separate dish in the Menu. I called the manager and tried to explain her what was going on. She did not let me finish and kept on asking me what;s going on ? what;s the problem ? Pathetic service ever and the waitress was rude and arogant. I heard lot about this place but after coming here got very disappointed. The place is not at all hygienic and food quality was pretty bad. I wouldn't recommend anyone to try this place if you care about your health. There is always risk for a Mumbaite to try Mumbai food. Misal Paav was pretty average, nothing like Chembur or Dadar. Chinese Schezwan noodles were good. Not so oily and flavorful. Even owner acknowledged it that it should not be called a sizzler. Just call it Paneer Tikka. If you like to try new dishes, and like Indian food come here! This place features Mumbai specialties, as you can guess from the name. I had Vada Pav and Dabeli from the appetizers menu, both have buns, but Vada Pav has fried spicy potato patty and Daveli has diced potato which was soft. Main dish was chicken Balti (shredded chicken with coconut, onions and green pepper), the owner told me he is from Mumbai and invented that dish. It had good amount of spices and the texture was great, plus it comes in a beautiful cone-shaped dish. They had Kashmiri soda as special for the day I visited, and it was definitely nothing like I ever had before. I was told it has tamarind and to me it tasted little sour, salty and spicy at the same time, my taste buds were curious for sure! Onion naan and lentil wafers were good, I used them to eat my chicken dish. Service and ambiance: this place is clean, and much cleaner than majority of Indian restaurants I have been to. They take your order, then another person brings the food- efficiently and without much interaction with a patron. They did not refill my water for at least 20 minutes until I asked for it, and no one stopped by to ask me how the food was. They looked busy though, and I understand service is not really expected at Indian joints. So they did step up the game somewhat, but do not expect American type of attentive smily service. In short: unique Mumbai style dishes at a clean place next to major shopping, you can pay with a card also which is convenient. I shall be back to try more yummy dishes :) read more

Unfortunately, Mumbai Chowk isn't as good as it used to be when it first opened. They've changed to a more low-fat style which, while possibly healthier, isn't nearly as flavorful as before. The owners Abdul and Sameena are awesome people who love recreating their fav recipes from back home...they have A great team as well ..love Musal! IF YOU ARE VEGETARIAN - STOP - READ - AND RUN AWAY If Yelp allowed a NEGATIVE rating that's what I would do. Even a 1 star rating is high praise. This is absolutely THE WORST FOOD I've eaten at a restaurant. The only thing worth doing in this restaurant is to stare at the wonderful photos of Mumbai street foods and dream on that you may get something like that. Pani Puri - wow did a 5-year old make this ? Pav Bhaji - even untoased Pav would have been better than the burnt nightmare that was served. And the Bhaji, don't even get me started.
