Then garlic cheesy bread to toasted ravioli. Then a shrimp in sauce. Followed by bone in wings. The wings I believe were buffalo style. The garlic Cheese bread was amazing. But I had to behave. lol more food was coming. We had their house side salad which was nice and refreshing. Then the main food was set up more cater style. You had the options of moscaholi, tortellini, chicken Parmesan, and a beef bruschetta? All were good and fulfilling. Then they ended it with cheese cake. Huge slices we had food left over they allowed us to box up the rest to take home. To drink I had a Bellini which was nice and refreshing. Some of my coworkers had the chocolate martini they loved a lot!! I'd love to go back on my own time to eat here. I've heard great things about their egg plant... Very disappointed in the raise in price. This plus a side of pasta is 31.50. The food taste good but it's outrageously priced for its quality. You don't even get a soup or salad with it. After being born and raised in Belleville, and living in Troy for 9 years, we finally tried Mungo's for the first time. We called a little before 5 and we're able to get reservations for 6 @ 630. Our table was ready for us with waters and all when we walked in. There is no printed kids menus, but from my understanding any of the dishes can be made into a kids portion (it's definitely small). The food was delicious. All tasted fresh and on point. I loved the decor of black and white photos of years past and how they share the history of the restaurants. Upon entering you immediately smell sewer and it gets worse as you sit there. They now have a cash amount to pay and a non cash amount to pay along with the fact that they raised their prices. I picked up Mungo's to go during the last hour of the 2024 Italian Fest. They were starting to shut down their tent, but went out of their way to prep & wrap up 3 lasagnas for G, M, and me. The service was PHENOMENAL! Each little pan was wrapped in cellophane, so the orders traveled very well with any minor seepage contained within the cellophane. And the food......also PHENOMENAL! I LUV cheesy, creamy lasagna & it absolutely did not disappoint! Also, the meat(s?) and sauce did not give any of us "of age" folks heartburn. I'm not sure why G & M hadn't been there before, but we'll definitely be dining there again in the future. read more

I had: Shrimp Castiglioni Jumbo shrimp lightly floured, deep fried, then sauteed in a white wine lemon butter sauce with fresh mushrooms. My salad: Mungo's Famous House Salad Iceberg and romaine lettuce, prosciutto ham, parmesan and provel cheese. Tossed with our special house creamy italian dressing. We first heard of Mungo's during our visit to the Italian fest in Collinsville. I got their lasagna, and it was the best I've ever had. The provel cheese, and their delicious marinara sauce makes for the perfect lasagna! I knew we had to come and try it in person. We celebrated a birthday tonight, the 5 of us came and had an amazing dinner, and we had an awesome server named Anwer. He made sure every step went perfectly, our bar drinks and appetizers came out expeditiously, and dinner was right on time! All of our food was amazing, but the lasagna and spaghetti with meat sauce are the best of both I've ever had! And I come from an Italian family so that's saying a lot because I thought my grandma made the best spaghetti. They have carrots in theirs which I'm not mad at, it's different, but yummy! My husband said his chicken Tony was absolutely amazing and tender, and he's a pretty big chicken critic! Also, my baby dropped her bottle and the man behind the bar was kind enough to pick it up and rinse it off with hot water. I thought that was very kind and the extra mile. Overall the restaurant was very nice inside, the bathrooms were very clean, they did have a smell to them, I think they need some air fresheners in there because they are clean aside from that. We decided to go to dinner but had no idea what we wanted, so we hopped in the car and started driving. Went to Longhorn but there was a 30 minute wait, so we left. My husband suggested Mungo's, because we hadn't been there in a while, so I called to reserve a table. She said there were currently tables available, and we said we would be there in about 15 minutes. We arrived, were immediately greeted and seated in a booth near the front of the restaurant. I had a glass of Pinot Noir, which was a little bitter but it's wine, fine. I ordered the linguini with clams in white sauce and my husband had the Chicken Modiga. There were no clam shells in my dish, only big pieces of clams. It was ok. My husband loved his dish. We love the atmosphere, service, and food at Mungo's, and will continue to go back. It's a staple for us. I will just order something else next time. read more

We stopped in to eat here while attending the annual Italian Festival. We were craving Italian and what better to fit the bill. The restaurant is a corner unit in the older buildings along Main Street. Seating is a combination of booths and tables with chairs. There is a bar area as well. Surprisingly even with the Festival going on the wait was only a few minutes. I did the fettuccine with white clam sauce while my daughter the pasta pesce. In both cases the sauce was good. Her's had shrimp and a decent sized scallop. Mine had plenty of clams. In both cases they used red pepper flakes to spice it up. For her it was a little too spicy. I would say the biggest downside was that the pasta meals came with nothing else. Bread and salads were overpriced extras. She ordered a small salad for $9 and we passed on the bread. With us drinking just an iced tea and soda the bill came to $70 before tip. The staff was great. People were hustling to keep up with the crowds. Unfortunately the food was good but overpriced for what we got. It's still the best thing to eat at the Festival. read more

So it's been a while since we've been to this place. Tonight was something special! I had chicken Tony, which is a fabulous pan, seared chicken breast, covered in mushrooms and a cheese cream sauce. It was amazing. The side salad it comes with was extraordinarily flavorful as well. Nice blend of Italian dressing and cheeses. For dessert, I had cheesecake which was fluffy and decadent. If you are in the mood for great Italian food, Mungo's Italian Eatery is the place for you! I love going to the Hill in St. Louis and most of the Hill is closed on Sunday. Mungo's was open, so my wife and I gave it a try! I am so glad we went to Mungo's! Their food, staff, ambiance matches everything you can find on the Hill and we didn't have to cross the river to get there. I got the pasta carbonara. That is my favorite pasta. It was delicious! We were blessed when we stopped in to see what they had and explained our predicament of traveling with our therapy dog who wasn't handling the heat so well. They graciously opened a back room for us so we could bring the dog in for AC during the meal. We had exceptional service from the host and server. The meals were delicious. Our toddler loved the bread and butter to start with too! The gal bussing tables was effective and worked a bit faster than we were prepared. I was skeptical because I grew up in New York City and after coming down to Florida and fortunately finding my two niche Italian restaurants, I really didn't know what to expect in the middle of farmland and O'Fallon, Illinois. We have been costumers for many years even when they were located in Fairview heights in front of the mall, then in O'Fallon and now in Collinsville Main Street. They renovated this place and it is very cozy and a nice atmosphere. I have tried several dishes but my favorite is the shrimp castiglioni. I absolutely love the oil,butter & garlic noodles as the side dish. The mungos house salad is what I start craving first that brings me back! The salad is a mix of romaine and iceberg lettuce. It has prosciutto ham, parmesan & provel cheese. The house dressing is a creamy Italian...yum!! The zucchini sticks are really, really good! I also order the chicken stasilli, chicken mudiga & shrimp scampi. They are delicious! I always order the cheesecake whether I am full or not! It is soft, not hard. Almost like a no bake cheesecake but it is very creamy, stacked high on a graham cracker crust. I end up taking a part of it home each time. It's made in house and always tastes very fresh! The service here is impeccable. They have assistants to the waiters/waitresses that bus the table the entire time you are eating replacing bread, filling drinks and getting any little things you may need. We especially enjoy having Charles as our waiter! He is featured on the menu. He was the first server hired at Mungos 40 years ago and still works there and does an excellent job! You can expect to pay $40-$50 a person at dinner but you won't be disappointed! read more

Visiting the area for the holidays- decided to try Mungo's for the first time in about 20 years. Originally from the Belleville area, we frequented the original Mungo's on West Main. This was the first time to the restaurant in Collinsville. All in all, similar to the previous incarnations of the Mungo's restaurants. The atmosphere was very good. The staff was excellent and were promptly seated for our party of 10 on the night before Thanksgiving (we had a reservation). The manager came around early and asked how everyone was doing and explained our server would be with us shortly-and she was. All good. Regarding the food. Our family had a variety of the appetizers and entrees, including Mungo's salads of course. The fried artichokes were tasty although I heard comments about them being a little heavily breaded. I didn't have them myself. We did share an order of the Italian hot wings which were good in flavor, but seemed quite salty. And oddly for me, I love salty food, but I thought they were similar to Franks Hot Sauce with added Garlic Salt and maybe an additional Italian seasoning that I couldn't put my finger on. The lasagna and cannelloni entrees were super good. Just the right amount of sauce and cheeses. Family also had a chicken entree as well as the orange roughy. All tasted very well seasoned and nicely cooked. The Mungo's salad was similar to what I remember. I thought it used to have a bit sweeter dressing, but that was a long time ago. Still very good. And the bread with toasted sesame was awesome. Food wise, I'd give 5 stars except for the wings appetizer. At the end of the dinner the server asked if we wanted the bill split up and we agreed. The 10 of us split the bill 3 ways. Not a big deal, but apparently we were all charged an extra $5.95 convenience fee which was apparently for splitting the bill. I also noticed that when they split a salad for 2 people, the split cost (x 2) was more than a single salad. Which seemed odd since we specifically asked before ordering if we were going to be charged for splitting the salads and she said no. Again - food was good. But 4 people on my check was around $200 including fees prior to me adding a tip. This seemed a little expensive for what we received (4 entrees + 2 salads + cocktails) I just don't know if I'd be a regular given the price and fees that were added to the bill. If you are ever in Collinsville, Il you must try Mungo's Italian Eatery. This little gem is located right on Main Street in a historic building. The Bar is nice and spacious. The Dining room has ample seating as well as a back room for Private Parties. Once seated we were greeted with Fresh Bread and butter. Yum... Our server was very attentative.. we never felt rush and we took our time enjoying our meal. Our Drinks were very good.. Chocolate Martini, Tito's and Sprite, and Old Fashion. Appetizers of Cheese Garlic Bread and Sauteed Artichoke hearts (which I highly recommend) were very good. The food was superb. The menu has a Great Variety for anyone!!! You Must Get the Mungo Salad... it is one of the best salads ever!! I took advantage of the Special Ribeye Steak Tony Style (Creamy Provel sauce and Sauteed Mushrooms) and a side of Garlic Spaghetti. The hubby had the Stuffed Orange Roughy (Crabmeat shrimp and a creamy cheese sauce). Our friends chose Chicken Tony and Cannelloni. We splurge and got the Tiramisu... Very friendly staff. My party group was kinda forgotten briefly for had to get attention of staff. They were very busy for it was New Year Eve. The drinks were good. Service was fast when the staff realized we were forgotten. My orange roughy with stuffed crab and shrimp was very rich. It was topped with a creamy sauce and cheese so much I could not taste the stuffing or fish. The dish was good if you like a lot of cheese and sauce. I like to taste the real fish and less of sauce and cheese. I will have to pay attention to details and asked more questions re: dish and what in it. Ambience was good. Alright. This one is hard to rate. Here goes: Excellent service. Great atmosphere. High quality ingredients. But the pasta sauce is overly sweet and lacks flavor in my opinion. So, it all comes down to the pasta sauce. If you like sweet sauce, you're gonna love this place. If not, it's lacking. Personally, I like the garlic and the onion and the oregano. I didn't taste those ingredients. I could only discern the sugar. Way too sweet for me. We started out with the toasted ravioli. A wee bit over cooked, overly crispy and blackened, and I had the sugar sauce to dip it in. We also tried the Mungo salad. Great, fresh salad, but guess what? Sweet. Again, it's about personal taste. My daughter went with the spaghetti. She thought the sauce was too sweet. My wife went with the three way pasta. She thought the sauce was too sweet. I had the veal parm. The veal was fantastic. But they put that sugar sauce on it. Too sweet. My son went with the bacon cheeseburger. I thought he was crazy ordering that at an Italian restaurant but his was the only meal that wasn't sweet. I like how they put the burger on garlic bread. And, the fries are really good too. I really wanted to like it here. But the sauce ruined it for me. Everything else is 5 star material. The staff was very attentive and nice and food was good. That was as not the issue. The issue was that as soon as we got our food, granted we were there around 830 but they were still open, I suddenly smell an overwhelming stench of smoking in the restaurant. I could no longer eat my food, it smelled disgusting and it overtook any of the food I was trying to eat. I was dumbfounded how someone could be smoking in a restaurant these days, and mind you, this place isn't cheap and we were excited for our date night. One of the workers approached us and I asked is someone smoking in here? she said yes, that's the owner, he does it every night. she said I know, it makes my contacts burn. I then asked for togo boxes and said this is not ok. our waitress then came over and was very apologetic, took our drinks off the bill and said he probably didn't see us over here. it was appreciated but that didn't change the fact of our dinner being cut off and ruined. So hey maybe close your restaurant and not subject your employees or patrons to second hand smoke and step outside. Owner or not, that was extremely unprofessional and we won't be back and that's sad because we are locals here in Collinsville. read more

Since Brazies closed a while ago, I was so bummed out because I had just discovered their chicken brochette with sodini sauce as one of friends ordered frequently. I finally tried, loved it, and then it closed. Enter Mungos, who I believe is some relation to Brazies. Needless to say, we drove to Collinsville and ordered the chicken brochette, but instead of spedini sauce, it's their Tony Sauce. It's kind of a cheesy type of sauce with mushrooms. It did not disappoint. 3 of us at the table ordered and loved it. We also had the twice baked potato which was equally delicious. The 4th person in our party had the lasagna...he loved it. For dessert, we had the house made cheesecake. It was creamy with a graham crust. It was very good. As for the restaurant itself, I thought it was a great place on main street.
