I have not written in a while and felt the need to add a review for one of my all time favorite places to eat. I grew up eating the gyros, sandwiches and baklava from here and have had difficulty finding its equal. I had heard the owners were retired and wanted to see if any changes had occurred. I was pleasantly surprised to discover some of the old faces behind the counter still working there. I asked about any changes while waiting for my food. I was relieved to hear them say the new owner bought the recipes and had not changed anything. The food was the proof. All the same delicious flavors and taste I remember. The tzatziki sauce is the best I have ever eaten, and this includes many higher scale Chicago Greektown restaurants. I also dug up an article about the new owner who, like me, grew up eating here and vowed to maintain the tradition. After finishing my gyro plate, I had to grab an extra couple of gyros for the road. The guys were kind enough to throw in extra tzatziki after I mentioned how much I missed it. I will continue to say this is the best gyro place in the entire Midwest and recommend it to everyone. WARNING: Do NOT buy SHRIMP from this place! I purchased the shrimp basket from this place today and the "sand veins" were left on them. I called and explained that I would like to return my food, because the digestive tracts/sand veins (yup, poop) were not removed from my shrimp...but the manager said, "we clean the outside of the shrimp and have always prepared our shrimp this way... we cannot refund your purchase". He did not care about retaining my business and/ or the business of the company that I'm associated with, therefore I will NOT be returning...smh read more

We have been coming here for years. We love it's gyro's which is what we mainly get. We don't even live in the area. We've lived in mid MICHIGAN & then Texas. So when we're traveling to Texas & back to Michigan we stop here for gyro's. We eat there & get some to-go. We sometimes ask if they can put the takeout ones yogurt sauce in a separate container or even the bread separate from meat. Then it's not soggy after the 4 hrs it takes to get home to reheat. IF there's any leftovers I use it in a omelette the next day, bread also. Yum. read more

We've been coming to this place for years and it's seriously amazing and authentic. However, I did notice the roll/bread was different when I ordered the beef sandwich. Not sure if you just ran out and used something different but if not, please go back. The roll from before was perfection and made the beef sandwich!! The meat and sport peppers are still delicious but I need that roll back:) Also, I know it was later in the evening but the fries were undercooked, little stubs and greasy. Ask someone if they've been to Munster. If they're from the rest of Indiana, they'll ask you "MUNCIE?" but if they know about Munster, or Funster as I lovingly refer to this suburban sprawl, they know about Munster Gyros. Munster Gyros is an institution of the best Greek fast food probably ever. I started eating gyros in 3rd grade, and have worked my way through the menu. Unlike some other places, the meat is never greasy, and the pitas are grilled to perfection. The tzatziki is superb, so dip your fries in there too! The carry out service is super fast, and you get lots of food for a small price. I never miss Munster Gyros when I'm back in town. John and the whole staff are always so nice, and it still shocks me that John remembers me from going to school with his son. read more

My sister-in-law lives in Munster and Chicago. She was letting us stay at her place in downtown Chicago and was driving in to see us. She called and asked if we wanted gyros from Munster gyro. It's been a while since we've had a gyro from here and it is still great. Even after sitting in a car for 45 minutes, when I bit into the meaty gyro sandwich I smiled with a tzatziki mustache. That's what I call an Italian beef!! It could have used a little more seasoning but I was tickled to open the silver foil to reveal a beautiful sandwich that was packed super full of meat! I really appreciate a big bite of beef sandwich with all the juices running down your arm. My hubby had the BBQ beef sandwich and liked it a lot. It was also fully loaded with meat. For the price it was great. We both got huge sandwiches, big baskets of French fries, drinks and a basket of fried zucchini for just shy of $20.00. Staff was really friendly. I was really pleasantly surprised by this place - especially based on first impressions! My boyfriend and I were looking for spots open on Christmas Eve and the Chinese restaurants were too crowded. Best gyro ever!! Thanks for the yummie food!!! The gyro was huge with plenty of meat and sauce!! The feta was amazing. Be mindful they don't refill sodas or have tap water to drink you have to buy a bottle of water. The French fries were piping hot. The prices were really good as well. This is our absolute favorite gyros place ever. They have a bbq gyros sandwich that is so amazing I crave it quite often and try to convince my hubby to eat here every time we're in the neighborhood. The hot dogs, fries, and regular gyros sandwiches are also delicious. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. You can't go wrong with anything you order from here. Love this place for some reason, it's nothing spectacular and service is sometimes lacking (mostly very good). The guys who work here have been there forever. That makes it cool. I always order either the gyros plate or cheese burger. Both are very good and generous size. Would love to have given 3 1/2 stars. Can't go wrong here! read more

First the fries I got were not soggy, actually the only good thing. I agree you get way more onions on the gyro plate than meat. The bread (pita) wasn't cooked or warmed thoroughly. Haven't had chicken gyros since the new owners bought it and I would never go back! $25.00 for 2 chicken gyros sandwiches, small fry, large fry and extra peta. Got a gyro plate. Pretty disappointed, the amount of onions they included was larger than the amount of meat. The only pita wasn't cooked or warmed thoroughly. The fries were soggy, and barely cooked through. Not worth $9. Got a polish and it wasnt worth the 5 dollars. You can get a really good polish for less and an order of fries at Jim's original and it's way better. Since moving to Indiana I've yet to find a really good gyro joint where you get what you pay for. read more
