Great spot for outdoor gatherings. We threw a baby shower for roughly 20 people with kids. No reservations so you'll want to show up early to grab your preferred spot. We were there at 9am-ish on a Saturday right before full opening of CA. Open space, good shade, clean playground. Even a nice pathway for a bunch of adults to embarrass themselves falling off an electric unicycle. Parking was also pretty easy on a Saturday morning pre opening of CA, but looks like it should still be ok after. Great park. Would come again

Pretty park! I have a friend who happens to live just across from this park and, although I have been many places to her house to pick her up to go out, I never really paid attention to this park. I did, though, last Sunday and found it is bigger than you can see at a quick glimpse. I like the old school type of metal benches with lots of ornaments and found quite unique that some trees are also wrapped with that metal decor. Lots of space to walk, run, have a picnic, a BBQ and there as restrooms too. Looks like the ideal park for a neighborhood, where the locals can have a good time. I like the beautiful tree, the colors are impressive now during Fall!

Really nice park but don't see myself coming back at least until shelter in place is done. It was packed and the folks did not seem conscious about social distancing.

A real neighborhood park! There are so many different playgrounds, which the children love. Plenty of grills for BBQs, tons of green grass, tennis courts and basketball courts - there's even a trail nearby for jogging. Murdock has everything you could ask for from a park!

What kind of park has a zipline?!? THIS ONE. Two seating options, one with a harness for toddlers,…read morethe other for older kids (I even saw adults using this). The park also offers a fun and inclusive space for children, with climbing structures, sturdy cement slides, swings for both toddlers and older youth, a see-saw, merry-go-round, trampoline, and spongy material making up the ground's surface. The occasional squirrel, lizard, and butterfly too. As an adult simply looking for a place to relax while waiting for my car at an auto shop nearby, I was pleasantly surprised to find this park accommodating. Dirt and concrete trails weaving through the garden, lovely vegetation in spring, and a good amount of picnic tables and benches scattered throughout. Also, a shady area with fake grass and seats made out of smoothed-out logs and tree trunks, as well as adirondack chairs where I was able to hang out and nap while I was there. It wasn't too crowded or crazy on a Friday morning, though it got busier as it neared noon time. In addition, the place offers a parking lot and clean restrooms for convenience.

The play garden has everything kiddos love -- slides, one seesaw, one round spinner, one rope climbing thing (that can also spin), swings (bucket and standard), small water play area, and a Zipline (one for little kids 3+ and one for older kids). They also have an area with tables, where someone was having a party (no idea if reservations are needed though). Expect to wait in line for a turn of the park is crowded. The play garden is fenced off from the rest of the park. They have a restroom on site. They have a small parking lot that is nearby the entrance of the play garden. I noticed some people parked on a smaller side street and walked over. I'm not sure what other parking options there are otherwise. We would return if we're in the area again and if it's less busy. It's a solid park and play area for those who live nearby.

We visited during our trip to San Diego & oh my goodness, it was absolutely amazing…read more This is such a peaceful place to sit and enjoy the beauty of nature. Located inside Balboa Park, you can tour the museums in the area, but don't forget to stop and take a moment to smell the flowers at the Japanese Friendship Garden... There were so many beautiful birds, butterflies, koi, and plants I've never seen before. The grounds were very clean and well manicured. Pricing to get in was about $60 for a family of 4 (including student pricing for our children) which may be a bit steep if you have young children with thin patience.. however, if you are able to come in and find your Zen for a couple hours, this is the spot to do so. They offer free crafts for visitors- when we were there they were doing an origami workshop, which seemed very fun. However, our kids weren't up For it- so we did not participate. Would definitely visit again in the future!

The parking fee is....fair which means you only need to come here once or twice a year. To get to the Japanese garden you need to walk a bit to find the big gate? In terms of size it is medium length. Still being built yet good enough to walk around. Lots of lush green views and refined scenery verdant for miles. You could even think of it as a mini nature get away from the busy city life It's worth the trip and you could visit the other parks if you have time for it
