I usually clean my own pool, but needed someone to take over after having knee surgery. I saw a lot of offers for around $100-$125/month, but thought they can't be any good. So, I found Murdoch Pool Service who was charging $180, but had great reviews. After speaking with owner, Brett, who assured me that they provide a better service than the cheap guys I signed up. After a couple of cleanings, I noticed they were only spending about 10 minutes on my pool and not leaving it "sparkling clean". I spoke with Brett about this and, after looking at the photo his guy took, he argued that he didn't see a problem with the service. I thought OK ...maybe I'm being OCD because I'm used to cleaning my own pool and spending way more than 10 min on it. Then we had strong Santa Ana winds hit and it left quite a mess of leaves, debris, and dirt in my pool. I was looking forward to Murdock coming to the rescue to clean it all up. They spent a little more time than the average 10 minutes and left my pool looking like it still needed to be cleaned. The photos were taken immediately after they left and you can clearly see that they failed to brush the sides, clean out the strainers baskets completely, etc. I'm pretty sure I could have gotten this level of service from the cheap guys. I was expecting to have them help me out for at least 3 months, until I could heal and get back to cleaning the pool myself, but after 2 months I couldn't continue paying a premium price for a sub-standard service. I found myself hopping around the pool on one leg trying to clean up after they left. I would highly suggest you find someone else to clean your pool. read more

Brett is a decent guy. But it's the employees that make or break a business. Brett had a guy cleaning my pool and he was pretty good. After a few months passed he was cleaning the pump basket and forgot to turn the valve to allow water back in. I came home to a pump that had running dry for 8 hours. The guy bought a new pump and installed it but in the process he over tightened the nut and cracked it. At that point it wasn't leaking so Brett and I decided to let it slide. But of course it later started leaking and I had to deal with it on my own. Then there came a new guy. I asked for the first guy back because the new guy wasn't cutting it. So Brett had them team up and told me that the new guy wouldn't be coming alone until he was trained. Two weeks later I saw on my security system that the new guy was alone. And noticed he still wasn't cutting it. I told Brett I wasn't happy and he assigned someone new. This newer guy could be seen on our cameras going in to areas of the yard he had no business going to. I watched and didn't mention the cameras. Just trying to make sure he was doing the job I hired him to do and it was obvious he didn't see the cameras. Some weeks I would send a message after he left and ask if he vacuumed the pool that week. More than once he replied that he had done it the week prior so he would do it again the following week. Of course I would look back at the video from the prior week and see he didn't vacuum then either. When I hired Brett I specifically asked to do my own filter cleaning. As I told him, the main reason was because I didn't want DE from the filters in my back yard. One day I saw them enter my yard. I thought they were just cleaning the pool off schedule. But then I got a bill from Brett. When I asked what the bill was for he said they cleaned my filter. In the end he admitted his fault and didn't charge me for the service I previously asked them not to provide. But I did end up with a bunch of DE in my yard that I was trying to avoid. In the end, Brett is decent but my experience with his company as a whole was unpleasant. I think it could be helpful for anyone considering the company's services. read more
