We have taken our two cars to Murphy's on a couple occasions and found them to be very communicative and fair. They did a great job both times not the fastest but we felt they were thorough. This last time was really not a great experience we had dropped our car off on a Wednesday afternoon under the impression that nothing would really be assessed until Thursday which was totally understandable. We did not hear from anyone on Thursday and ended up calling ourselves in which the answer was they were running some tests. Friday rolls around and no updates or calls we called twice once in the AM and then again at closing time. At closing time I decided to call and see where we were at and asked whether we would be getting our car for the weekend. We decided to keep the car at the shop over the weekend but were told we would get a call first thing in the AM on Monday when they re-opened, which did not happen. We called around 10am and the front desk reported they were surprised we did not have our car back and would ask the technician and give us a call again no call back. We ended up calling and asking them to just fix a few minor things. We totally understand that car fixes take time but being transparent and communicative is super important, we are two working adults and had already planned on not having a second car for a few days so we had made arrangements but not having a car for 6 days is another story. We are disappointed as we really trusted this place and it was close to home, but will not be bringing our cars back here. read more

Highly, highly, highly reccomend Murphys Family Auto Repair! I brought my car in to get a pump fixed. They ordered the part and got me in for an appt the nxt day (which was amazing!) On my way to their shop my car broke down on the side of the road and I had to have it towed to their shop. They helped me setup my tow and we're even ready to take me back to my house after check in. My alternator was bad and they ordered that part and fixed it the same time as thr scheduled 1hr pump appt. This is what sets them far apart from other auto places...I had a flight to catch and could only have my car gone for 1 day. They stayed well past their closing time of 530p to finish my car. I dropped it off around 1230p. The owner kept working on my car until 9p to accommodate my needs and was happy to do it for me. My pump system replacement on my Nissan Murano was around $350 with labor add in the alternator and I paid a little under $1500! When I was quoted 8 months ago at Big O' Tires for an alternator and labor alone, it was close to $3k! One coil needs to be replaced and he couldn't get the part so late in the night so he told me to come by whenever I could and he would replace it for free! I know it's a simple thing but again they went above and beyond so many times for me! I can't begin to describe how genuine and helpful Murphys is! From the very first contact they were 100% helpful, honest, professional, resepctful, and incredibly nice! There was no up-selling or pressure from them to use their business, which has never happened unlike other places I've been. I will definitely be going back when I need a mechanic! read more

I found the pricing to be competitive and the job was done in a approx. an hour while I waited. The people were nice and I am happy to find this business so close to my house. Like the song says, "So Long. Good Bye." I have used Murphy's for some time but really just got cheated. Took my truck in with the code and name of the item needed (an EVAP Sensor) which was, at most, $42.00 at Auto Zone. It took 5 minutes for the young man to hook up, read the code, and print out the information at Auto Zone. I was charged $277.00 to fix the problem - which was exactly what I told them. When my husband questioned the charge, he was told "The book said that was the hours needed to do the job." Actual install time, less than an hour (0.8), part (padded) $61.00, and to make the hours in THE BOOK work, over an hour - $114 to diagnose. I GAVE THEM THE DIAGNOSIS.. Sadly, I won't go back and won't recommend them. When a shop uses THE BOOK to charge and not the actual time and then pads a bill, they are no longer mechanics. read more

Had my vehicle in this shop on southern and Ellsworth 3 weeks ago for an oil change and tire rotation. They charged me $97.00 for oil change on a Buick and 30.50 for tire rotation that didn't get done. When car was done and I was paying the bill and asked for receipt they said " everything looked good" and I never got a receipt for what they did. After getting back to RV park I could see that the tires weren't rotated as the curb marks were still on the back rt. tire. from turning too short . As a vulnerable older female I would never ever give them business again. read more

Last time I was in, they gouged me $700 for a headlight replacement and gave me an oil change that same day. I chalked it up to being grateful it was just done, and they squeeze me in. They may advertise oil changes on their door but there should be fine print under it. They won't give you one unless you have your vehicle in there for getting other services. You call and ask for one, they tell you they are several days out. You can go in there and they tell you appointment only but don't try and schedule you. They tell you this while 3 techs hangout at the front desk with no one in the waiting room. This used to be a convenient place to take our cars but if they want to do the big stuff on my vehicle, they need to also do the small maintenance work as well. Time to find a new place. 2 stars for answering the phone and location. read more

I took my mother's car in there because it smelled like gasoline and I was afraid to drive it very far. I was not offered a ride back to her house while they did their diagnostic check on it, which they said would take a few hours to get to, I had to walk. They called to tell me what was wrong with my mother's car. It was a cracked fuel pump that they would not be able to get till Tuesday. This was on a Friday morning. They also said it would be $1350 to repair the car. The part was a $202 part which they were charging me $808 for, I took it somewhere else to be repaired and it was repaired for $850. But I had to pay $130 to these people as a diagnostic fee because I didn't have it repaired there. Apparently they are used to being outside of several 55 and older communities, and taking advantage of old people that are snowbirds doubt have any other resources. Luckily, I was there, or my mother probably would have had to pay that because she would've had no other options. I would be very careful using these people. read more

I took my '98 Mercury Marquis in for repairs after it had died on me and my roommate replaced a few parts and still wouldn't run. Sean the owner not only programmed the computer and got the car running even better than when I purchased it three years ago, they were so busy they had forgotten to finish the AC. I called and they were so apologetic and I took right back in the morning and they finished it within 30 minutes. It's so hard to find reliable people AND great customer service but I found both at Murphy's with all of the staff and their owner. I took my car in after the dealership told me I needed new rear brakes. I knew I did not want to pay dealership prices for brakes. But I got a call about an hour after I dropped it off. The guys at Murphy family had inspected it and told me I had at least 50% of my brakes left. I could not believe my ears. I was sure I did not want to pay dealership prices, but I was equally sure that most places would have sold me the brakes anyway.
