I had David out about 2 weeks ago for a upstairs tub drain that was leaking through the downstairs ceiling. Of course, since I was having a plumber come out anyways, I found a couple more projects to add to the mix. It wasn't an emergency call, and it was easy to schedule a convenient time. Since I had the ceiling open to see the leak, I sent him some pictures ahead of time, so he'd know what to expect when he arrived. He was ontime (early actually), and was very professional. He as meticulous about keeping my house clean (booties on and off every time he went out the door, and cleaned up after himself). He found and fixed the leak in the tub drain in no time. A broken rubber gasket, which he replaced. Additionally, I had a laundry washer stand pipe that would overflow every so often, and would have to snake it clean to make it run without backing up. David spent a LOT of time investigating what was going on with this, as it's a problem we've had in this house for 15+ years. Looking at the standpipe, house trap, and water flows from various parts of the house. Ultimately, he found the standpipe was just too short for the washer (it was only about 1.5-2 feet tall in total. So, we worked on a solution to extend the pipe, and it's run perfect ever since. He spent a lot of time here that morning, 2-3 hours, and could have easily packed it in, but his attention to detail and desire to fix the problems is something I truly appreciate. I called David late on a Friday b/c my shower control valve wasn't working properly and I couldn't stop the water from running. He was on a different job and said call him back if no one in the area (other plumbers) could make it over ASAP. HE called me back about 2 hours later to follow up on his own. I had no luck with other plumbers and just shut the main water off to the house. On Friday night via video chat he walked me through the process of opening up the valve and troubleshooting step by step. We quickly were able to determine it was a malfunction cartridge and he sent me links to where to purchase new ones and he also sent me links/videos on how to install it to save myself the money. Long story short, I was able to have ROHL (never buy ROHL fyi) send me a new cartridge, David followed up with me again while waiting for the new one, and once I got it he walked me through again some minor troubleshooting over the phone while I was installing the new one. When was the last time you had a plumber willing to spend 2+ hours with you on the phone after hours and on the weekend to trouble shoot/fix a problem and charge you nothing??? And to be clear: he hadn't done any work for me previous to this, so this wasn't like I was one of his clients already. He will 100% be my first call every time. read more

Recently, I purchased new laundry washing machine and dryer from HD. I needed a plumber to help me disconnect the old gas-powered dryer and hookup the new dryer since HD could only install electric-powered dryer. HD should have helped me hookup the washing machine. However, on the day of the delivery, I was told that I needed a plumber to repair or replace the washing machine faucet before the installation. As a result, the washing machine installation did not happen on that day. I found Murphy Plumbing and Heating on Yelp. It turned out that David can do all the jobs needed, and he gave me a fair quote comparing with others. On the day of installation, I found David was very competent. He knows exactly what and how to finish his job. He helped me move both machines from basement level car garage to my laundry room on the 1st floor which HD delivery people should have had done, but refused to do. He only charged a fair extra for doing this. He also patiently waited for me and helped some to clean the floor under the old machines before moved in the new ones. Our new home had a plumbing set up that was far from standard and when it came time to have a new washing machine installed, we called Murphy Plumbing to get an estimate to correct the issues. David responded to our inquiry very quickly and was able to come to our home the next day and assess the unique situation. He provided us with an estimate that was more than fair for the amount of work that needed to be done. The work was scheduled for a time that was convenient to us and David took care to make sure everything was done right and as neat as possible. In the end, even though the work was more difficult and took much longer than he could have anticipated, he stuck to his original estimate and didn't slap us with any additional charges. Use This Plumber! Had leaky drain pipe on my kitchen sink. Called first plumber on my internet search - got voicemail, Called second number on search and David picked up - spoke to a live person on first call. Described the problem and said he would be there within the hour. He arrived in less than one hour! He looked at the problem with the kitchen sink, he quickly identified the issue (corroded brass pipes) and explained to me what the problem was and what he was going to do to fix it. He gave me a quote before he started working. Quote was very fair and reasonable, He had all the parts needed with him and he completed the job quickly. He cleaned up the area after he finished and walked me through all the new parts he installed. He did not take any shortcuts in his work and replaced exactly what needed to be replaced. I had a leaking valve that controls my outdoor faucet. So I went on the Next Door site to look for a plumbing recommendation. I noticed that many people made very positive comments about David Murphy. I was impressed with the description of his being fairly priced, honest, and responsive. So I gave him a call. I told him there was no emergency, and I am retired, so he could come pretty much any time he was available. He called a couple of days later, came over within 10 minutes of his call, looked at the problem, took out an adjustable wrench and fixed it on the spot. He might have told me I needed a new valve or taken his time fixing it to boost the charge. But he looked at it, explained how the valve works and how to fix it myself in the future, and left within 5 minutes with the problem soled and NO CHARGE. Sooo it's 7 o'clock at night and everyone's getting home from work, waiting to take a shower... No hot water... Panic set in. I recently hired David from Murphy Plumbing to install a new dishwasher that was a bit more complicated than most dishwasher installs. Although not the biggest job in the world, David treated the installation as if it were. Throughout the entire process I found him attentive, responsive and most importantly respectful. Had a leaking pipe in my basement ceiling. Called David in the afternoon as I had read great reviews online. I expected it would take him a day or two to show up, but I wasn't too worried since it was a relatively slow leak. Well, Dave answered the phone on the first try and said he would be over later that day, after his current job. David arrived around 7:30 pm that very day. After looking at the pipe he found that it was just a loose valve and fixed it on the spot. I felt bad having him come over for only a loose valve, but I had a few other minor plumbing issues, so I showed him those as well. David fixed all the issues immediately, and didn't even charge me. Dave is really terrific and exceptional - he responded to my call right away and first explained to how to check for the leak in the bathroom without him so I could save on the service call. We then had a couple of exchanges about what I had found - all without charge. When things appeared to get more complicated he came the next day and spent at least an hour looking for the source of the leak. He then said he wouldn't charge me anything "because it turned out I didn't need to fix anything." While he was here he took the time to introduce me to our house's plumbing (we are new home owners).
