The atmosphere is chill, subdued, yet fun. The servers are friendly and keep coming back to check on you and see what you need. I've only had the cheeseburger and fries, but they were both boooooomb-diggity. Especially the burger. Great place to watch a game or just hang out with some friends. If you're in the mood for some Irish food and music I recommend here. Their food is good mixture of Irish and American pub fair. My absolute favorite dish there is fried goat cheese with honey. Came for a quick stop in the bar before dinner. We hit happy hour so had a beer and a couple of sliders. Clearly ordered one with fries ($7) and one without ($5). Both came with fries, and one of us does not eat fries. We informed the waitress and she proceeded to tell us: yes, you both ordered fries. We said no and she just walked away. The burger was OK and decent size but not very flavorful without adding ketchup and mustard. Fries were decent. So she clears our plates, one of which was still full of fries. The bill comes with charges on both plates for the fries. So I had to ask for it to be removed from the bill, which was greeted with a look of surprise that I asked for a credit. In town for a family occasion we thought it would be nice to check out this especially since they specialized in Irish coffees. After the round, we made the horrid choice to order food. The food was cold and nearly inedible and certainly not worth the massive price tag. Only saving grace of this place is their Irish Coffees. Wouldn't recommend going for anything outside of that. read more

Stopped by today for lunch. Was pleasantly surprised with their new menu. I love curry chicken salads and they happened to have it in their menu!! Started with the Duck Wings holy smokes the sauce is killer!! And of course had to have their Frickles! Not disappointed at all! Lunch I had the Curry salad and it was delicious, had a little spice to it but the sweet raisins cut it down. Wish I had brought more friends with me so I could have tried a few more of their new lunch items!! Must come back to do so. :-) read more

Murphy's has a very extensive beer list, and those in our party who ordered them were very pleased. I ordered a $10 glass of wine, which was small and NOT worth $10.00. A few in our group ordered food. Grilled cheese was ok, they forgot the bacon, though. It did come with plenty of fries. Another ordered the "Baked" Macaroni and cheese (see menu pictures I have included), which turned out actually just a cup of rotelli noodles in a very bland, runny liquid sauce. There are lots of other places to try in Sonoma, and we will enjoy trying other pubs/restaurants! read more

What a fun little bar located in the heart of the Sonoma square. When we arrived we were greeted by Kayla and told we could sit whereever we liked. The place has a fun ambiance and a colorful decor of beer draft handles. We ordered fries, onion rings, and several beers. The onion rings were some of the best we have ever had. They were flavorful and the entire onion didn't fall out with one bite. It was served with a variety of condiments. The fries were crispy and tasted fabulous too. The BEER....yum! We enjoyed black and tans, Murphy's, and Cider. Several locals in the place and everyone was friendly! Kayla made our experience a memorable one! Total waste of time on this St Paddys day. Went there to eat only to be told AFTER we ordered that they were out of food. It was noon! They had no back up food trays so we waited 15 minutes before deciding to get a refund & go elsewhere. What happens when they get really busy? So glad we stumbled upon this amazing little gem. The drinks were fresh, hand crafted and made with care. The shishito peppers and fried goat cheese were phenomenal. Murphy's is a wonderful stop if you are sick of drinking wine on your visit in wine country. They have a vast selection of whiskey and scotch and British beers to get you through your visit. Don't get me wrong they still have a great selection of local wines, but sometime you want something else. Tonight I was delighted with the wonderful fried green tomato sandwich. The brown sugar bacon and black pepper aioli makes it!!! Sipping on Glenmorangie neat and enjoying the wonderful staff and management that make sure my visit is worth while. This place is amazing and I can't wait for St. Patrick's Day! Everything feels so authentic, beginning with the cobblestone alley that leads down to the pub. The staff is so wonderful, so nice, and really takes care of you! The beer selection is outstanding, although I have a hard time ordering anything other than Smithwick's! Unless it's whiskey, of which they have a wonderful selection as well. One of the things I really like is that the owners are usually on site so if there is ever problem, question, or anything at all you get to speak to them directly. Went to Murphy's today and was very excited since i used to work there and frequent it. One of the reasons i was looking forward to it was the thought of having mushy peas. Not only did they get rid of the mushy Peas on the menu but almost every other Irish item. There is no shepherd's pie. There are no bangers and mash. Even the beers are totally American for the most part. Very disappointing. I had a burger and thankful that it was cooked perfectly. However I was not happy with the french fries and my other friend had fish tacos and the fish was mediocre at best. She didn't finish hers. I heard that they changed hands several times in the last few years so I had high.... hopeful.... expectations. Very disappointed. I hope that they bring back the Irish to the Irish Pub. We were doing yet another venue tour in Sonoma and stopped here for lunch. We started off with the corn beef poutine (definitely not vegan lol but worth it). These were like a meal in itself. Really indulgent. I got the garden salad and then the hummus starter. Funny thing is that I got the hummus in hopes to be healthy but the flag bread was covered in oil and cheese. Comhghairdeas Murphy's!! Remodeled. Revitalized. Rejuvinated. Murphy's was always a go-to because of the complete lackidaisical, lazy casual feeling - but not for the food. It was standard, sometimes bland basic pub food. No longer. The menu is exciting and new - some old favorites - but stepped up to culinary greatness instead of it's past passable history. Everything is fresh and flavorful, perfectly tasty and truly, a delight in not just Irish fare or pub food, but for any sort of standard. Totally impressive were the inspired take on the old popcorn chicken, the new and improved are fried buttermilk chicken skewers with perfectly delicious honey mustard that you may just want to drink - depending on how many vodka gimlets you order...and a hot and spicy bbq dipping sauce. Crispy gnocchi is NOT to be missed, accompalined by fresh peas, shredded parmesan and bright asparagus, these almost chewy oversized potato lumps are lucious. My bibb salad was simple, but great with big chinks of crispy bacon, sliced tomato and avocado and peppered creamy dressing on the side. Sitting outside is no longer a showdown with the sun, new metal leuvered overhang with heated lamps makes the outside seating a much desired alternative to interior. Speaking of, the bar has bene completey rearraged to a guest friendly and inviting space. The outter room off of the patio is also opened up and much more usable and cozy. This pub is nestled way back in a little shopping square in the heart of downtown sonoma, and for being in such a cute, quaint little area, I was expecting slightly better food..... Our onion rings, however, were so fatty and delicious and perfectly made!! We saw an order sitting on a table over yonder and we all decided we had to order some to split, and I kinda wish my whole entree had been those onion rings even if they would have clogged up an artery or two!! Perfectly bad for you, but great for your taste buds!!!! My meal however was just okay.....hence me wishing we had ordered more onion rings to go around!! I got one of their chicken sandwich specials of the day and it just didn't have enough flavor really for me....i just felt like I was wasting space I could have used for onion rings!! Received a Grey Goose (no vermouth) shaken and served with ice cubes floating in the glass because "the strainer isn't working" Also turns out that the bartender was the manager. We strolled into this place after offending the delicate sensibilities of the management of HopBurger down the street. What a difference! The service and the food was excellent. Regrettably I don't remember the name of our server. She looked and was so sweet just like our sister, so we called her Monica. She's center in the attached picture. Amazing. Murphy's needs to give her a raise because she's awesome and can turn the mood of a hangry group of 11 into a team of delighted, upstanding citizens. The food was outstanding! I ordered a cup of coffee at the end of our meal and the waitress realized the coffee had been on the burner for a while and made me a fresh pot without me asking. Cons: We must have sat at our inside table for 10 minutes before we were even acknowledged by our waitress. She had to handle the entire inside area by herself and was overwhelmed. Was there yesterday to watch the Gasmen play as a way of honoring Larry Murphy, the previous owner. It seems like the new ownership will keep Murphy's in good hands. Solid fish and chips, they know how to pour a proper Guinness, and friendly service. The alley expands into a courtyard with plenty of room to spread out if they have live music. Figured we'd hit up a pub on our stay in wine country. Saw a sign for a band at 8 and thought "why not!". As we get there, the band is playing in a back room with tables, no seating (it was a packed Saturday night), and no bar. The actual bar was in another room, with no way to see or hear the band. Didn't make much sense. In addition to getting ignored by the bartenders, I overheard the couple next to us on the phone with their drug dealer and was arranging a meeting outside. Life local to Sonoma, I used to only really come here for exotic whiskeys and the awesome popcorn chicken... Oh and the occasional shepherds pie ans mushy peas... With chips.. Yeah! However I just had the dark chocolate w / Guinness crème brûlée... And I have to say that with all the crème brûlée I have eaten in my lifetime.. This one is simply out of this world. I really think it should be called something else though because it is so tasty that it is making all other crème brûlée look(taste) bad. *Update Since the change of ownership, this place has gone seriously downhill... Sat. 04/13/2013 My family and I (4 generations in all, from Napa & Sacramento, 1 orig. from Sonoma) dined here for lunch and let me tell you, it was a miserable experience. From top to bottom it was ALL horrible - prices, food, service, seating, cleanliness. Back in 2010 I had a wonderful lunch here. What happened??? On this day, there was a film festival going on in town and that contributed to the restaurant being overly busy, but still it doesn't take much extra time to at least act like you care about your guests. Only TWO waitresses for serving indoor areas and outdoor area. RIDICULOUS! ***NOTE to the owners and manager: If you want to know what a REALLY great Pub Dining experience should be like, then go to SEATTLE where it is done to perfection on the west coast. I went to Sanoma for the wine and found Murphy's as we were walking walking around downtown Sanoma the first night we were in town. Our VRBO was in the neighborhood. It was great! Very friendly service, a great environment of food/drink culture combined with sports and music. We ended up going 3 of the 4 nights we were in town. The bartender, Patrick, was great! He recommended great items and remembered us every time we went in. We ate dinner there the last night in town, and I was pleasantly impressed!
