While I am often disappointed in coursed menus (often get less food for more money), this place does it right! Everything on the menu was delicious, and I was honestly surprised when the check arrived at how reasonable it was considering the fact that we had plenty to eat and drink and the service was top notch. Even mentioned when making the reservation that two members of the party had just gotten engaged, so they treated us to a champagne toast to begin! Murray's would be much better off describing their style as Creole-Soul Fusion. While the food tasted fine, what arrived at the table was simply not what was described. At a $95-per-person tasting menu price point, that disconnect felt disingenuous. Additionally, the usage of the word "pub" in the name implies that the price point would be more of a $$ not a $$$$ (again, misleading). When making a reservation, there's no delineation between sitting upstairs in a very pricy tasting room or sitting downstairs in the casual dining area. That needs to be made more clear. We certainly weren't expecting a $300 dinner out. Now for the review... Let me start by saying that the waitstaff was top-notch - excellent service and great vibes overall. We started with the crawfish wontons and the buttermilk salad, both of which were delicious. As for the main courses: my partner ordered the crab and grits, and I had the catfish Atchafalaya. The overall flavor of the food was good - not spectacular, but solid. However, the menu takes heavy liberties with classic Creole terminology. Coming from South Louisiana, I know what Étouffée and Crab & Grits are supposed to look and taste like, and these dishes didn't align with traditional profiles. Catfish Atchafalaya is a well-established staple in Creole cuisine - it is traditionally a piece of catfish served over a rich bed of crawfish étouffée. What I received was a under-seasoned piece of catfish over plain white rice, surrounded by a small red drizzle around the edge of the plate that they claimed was the "étouffée." Étouffée is a hearty seafood dish cooked down with peppers and a distinct flavor profile; it cannot, in any way, be reduced to a blended garnish sauce. Similarly, the crab and shrimp dish arrived topped with mushrooms, whole tomatoes, and tons of onions - resembling a Philly cheesesteak filling more than classic seafood, with very little crab in sight. Also, I have to include that the timing of the courses lagged a lot. We were seated at 6:20 and we receive our main course until 8:00. The food was great- and it was the best fish n chips I've had in Louisville- and that's not a smalll statement! The gumbo was great and the space is awesome! We live close by and the walk is well worth it! Highly recommend! Issue is we had my 9yr old with us, and maybe it's because they were relatively newly opened and staff needs some training , but the 3 of us were sat at was clearly a two top on the end of the bench with plenty of open tables. It was around 6 pm so I get the 'reservations res to have their seats' but that felt like a sleight given how long it took someone to get to us. But again, the food is really good and everyone that has gone has said the same! But they need to learn from Noche- offer a kids menu and watch your covers grow! After all, you are in a walking neighborhood and we will spend money for quality food and service- and we all know the "kids out by 7pm rules" but it's too easy to go someplace else. We chose Murray's Creole Pub to try something different tonight. We were seated promptly and Angelica, the host, brought us popcorn and drinks. Our server, Elizabeth, essentially ignored us all night after introducing herself to us. Angelica noticed this and continued to check in on us, submitted our order, and brought us our food. She made amazing recommendations all night, encouraging us to try new drinks, like the popcorn old fashioned, and even order a Gateau Breton for dessert! Angelica saved what could have been a poor experience by taking care of our table. We loved the experience and Angelica really made it very special for us. The interior has the vibes of a swamp. Taxidermy animals and Spanish moss hanging from the ceiling. My friend and I had made a reservation. When we got in, it wasn't busy until later. Only two servers. They were attentive. We got drinks to start and an app: beer, martini, and duck nuggets. We also got complimentary popcorn. The nuggets came with two sauces, which were a bit salty. Still good flavors though. Moving onto entrees, we shared the curry crab rice and the shrimp yakamein. Portion sizes weren't bad. But the dishes were missing some kind of oomph. They could've been more flavorful and punchy. The star of the show was the dessert. The sticky toffee pudding was excellent! Not overly sweet. It was still hot when we got it. The elevation of a simple ingredient to make an ex catfish hater fall in love, reminds you of the days when you can fall in love with new beginnings - getting you out of your comfort zone. And so it goes, Chef Weeks menus have always challenged me to re-try ingredients I once thought weren't for my taste buds. Hands down the best Pub in Louisville!! The staff was attentive and focused on making the customer experience great. The ambiance gave true Louisiana vibes - cozy and inviting. We started with a bourbon flight (and was surprised it included Blanton) and a Louisiana Lemon Martini - both were delicious. Our first appetizer request of Oysters was denied because they were sold out. . But the chef made our dinner even better by providing a nice medley of caviar which was delicious. Our experience at Murray's was great. The staff was super warm and the vibes were great. Food was impeccable honestly! We started with the oysters and they were delicious! Then we hot the duck nuggets and the scotch eggs both also super tasty! On to the entrees we got 4 to share with our table. And a few sides as well. The the entrees were he Sole, the Scallops, the Ham Chop (pork chop) and the Short Rib. The sauce for the Sole was pretty salty and the Scallops for the price I feel like it should've come with more than two but the flavors were delicious. The Pork Chop and Short Rib were definitely stars. Super tasty and flavorful, the short rib was so perfectly tender and the pork chop was seasoned and grilled to perfection. The cabbage side was good but just a touch too much vinegar for my taste, the mac & cheese was great and the fries with the curry ketchup as well! This was just an okay experience for me. The good: We ordered the gumbo and it was flavorful. The service was good as well. The not so good: I ordered the $30 scallops because I saw an Instagram post from their site that showed 3 sizeable scallops for that price. I ordered it and it came out with only 2 scallops which I thought was a bit egregious for the price and size of the scallops received. The menu is small without a ton of options to choose from. Let me start by saying I've always been a fan of Chef Lawrence Weeks. I've followed him through North of Bourbon and Enso and had high hopes. We were Greeted warmly upon entering into a nice homey place. Our waitress was helpful and nice. We both got their House Gin and Tonic and it was tasty. We order a cup of their Potato Soup and it was delicious. Then we both made the mistake of ordering their "Signature Pub Burger " with parmigiana fries. To say that was a letdown would be kind. Maybe it's because it was their first weekday sitting and we need to wait a few months to let them work out the kinks. I don't know, but it wasn't good. I've had SmashBurgers that were good but this was a charcoal wafer. Because I like Chef Weeks I will be back, but guarantee I won't get the burger. read more

One word: DECADENT! Now for some more detailed words : This was a fantastic meal. We came in for a Smothered Catfish special, but unfortunately it was sold out. We were initially disappointed but that sadness didn't last very long. We ordered a plethora of things to try and share. My favorite bites were the buttered cabbage. Hate to say it, but after three visits now, Murray's Creole Pub has been fairly mediocre overall. There are a few bright spots, but the experience consistently lacks attention to detail. The cocktail I ordered tasted more like a lemon drop than a proper martini -- very little subtlety or balance. The duck nuggets arrived cold. One of our entrées was forgotten entirely, and because the waitress was fairly inattentive, we ended up waiting quite a while before it was brought out while the rest of the table sat with food getting cold. The service overall just felt disorganized. There were some positives: the French fries were excellent, and I've had a very good burger there before. But other dishes were disappointing -- the mushroom toast, for example, came on bread so hard it was difficult to cut with a knife. The waitress also never came back to ask about another round of drinks after we finished the first, and when I finally ordered one, it arrived after we had already finished eating. Since we had a later reservation, the whole experience felt a bit like the staff was ready to close up and leave. I had considered trying the tasting menu, but based on the quality and consistency of the regular menu, it's hard to imagine it being worthwhile. Food: - Generally the food was good, but considering the portion sizes, we did not feel it was a good value for what we received. The portion sizes that were particularly disappointing were the scotch egg (minimal sausage/filling), the potato/lemon ball, the escargot, and the gateau nana. - The highlights: the earl grey soda, the sticky toffee pudding, the pork, and the catfish. - The disappointments: two kegs blew while we were there of beers we'd ordered. The char grilled daube was so fatty, it was unappetizing. We would have sent it back if we'd not already spent so long waiting (more on that later.) The gateau nana was like eating a biscotti - it was extremely tough. The term "butter cake" paints a picture of something soft and decadent, which it was not. The Somethin' Luxurious was little more than a basic hashbrown, which did not meet the expectations of what was supposed to be an "elevated" dining experience. Atmosphere: this dining room experience has been described online as a quieter, more intimate atmosphere. That was not what we experienced. The tables were very close together and the acoustics made it very difficult to hear one another. If a table had the audacity to laugh, the whole room would be disrupted by it. It made the experience overstimulating and uncomfortable. Experience: Our reservation was at 5:15pm for 4 people. We left at 8:30pm, meaning we were there for over 3 hours. Most of this time was spent waiting for food to arrive. Half of our party did the three courses that included desserts, the other half did the 3 courses that included two starters/appetizers, but no dessert. For some reason, the arrival of the starters/appetizers was extremely staggered. One round was brought out 30-45 minutes after the first round. It was then almost another hour before our mains arrived. This was at 7:30pm, meaning we'd now been there for over 2 hours by the time our mains arrived. When our mains did arrive, only half of them were brought. The other half were brought over 10 minutes later. We watched as multiple tables who arrived after us enjoyed their meal, received their checks, and left in a timely manner. This left us confused as to why our experience took so long. If there was a delay or something going awry behind the scenes, nothing was communicated to us. If this is to be expected of the 3 course experience, this was not communicated online or in person. Finally, our bill for two people, after gratuity, was over $300, making this the most expensive dining experience we've ever had. The menu was not available online to peruse in advance. This led to extreme sticker shock after an already draining experience with how long we had to wait. It was frustrating spending so much money on this experience when could have enjoyed better a quality dining experience for a better price elsewhere. This experience was honestly unacceptable. It did not at all meet the standards of what I believe your establishment seeks to achieve. I genuinely hope for your continued success and longevity, but I have a difficult time foreseeing that happening without some major changes. read more

We have dined in the pub for brunch and dinner and experienced the upstairs dining option. Every time we have been to Murray's, the experience stands out. We initially went for brunch, not sure what to expect as others have mentioned the menu prices seem high for the dishes listed. However, once you experience the food, you will understand the price point. The food is incredible! Chef Weeks elevates every dish and brings you something unexpected. I highly recommend the boudin burrito, duck nuggets, crawfish wontons, catfish (across the board) and daube. Also, i highly suggest a creole coffee with brunch or after dinner. Cocktails were $16 and worth it. Rummie Gummies are a fanciful touch. Appetizers were a value disappointment. 9 mussels. Yes, that's right, nine! You give me 9 mussels and a decent tomato sauce, you best give me more than two toast points to dip. Duck nuggets, and I'm not sure where the duck was, were steeply priced for what amounted to over seasoned croquettes. Sauces were too salty but tasty. Mains were a crapshoot. Fish and chips were good But two portions at our table weighed in at 4 and 6 oz each. Why a 50% difference? The star of the show was a burger of aged beef with an egg on it. Fries were hot, crispy and seasoned well. The biggest disappointment was a grouper special at $38. Weighed in at 3.7 oz cooked. (Viet is a farm raised hybrid, not even wild caught) That's right, not the size of a playing card, with plain white rice and mach choux. Finished hungry. The side of greens was the only reasonably sized portion. Dinner for four with three cocktails was $275 without tip. I'd go just for Sticky Toffee Pudding next time. Sorry Chef Weeks. I called the restaurant around 5:10 to let them know we were running a bit late due to traffic. I spoke to the hostess and she thanked me for letting them know. I had previously requested a kind of romantic table if they could swing it. When we arrived and spoke to the hostess, there seemed to be a male manager that came up and really "harshed" the vibe a bit. There seemed to be a lot of confusion about where we were sitting and we were given the seat option of so close to a party table that it felt like we were in their party. Now don't get me wrong, I have no problem with that, but I told the manager that I would've preferred to sit somewhere else but he told me he was "just trying to respect my reservation notes." So I felt kind of pressured to take this table in the corner. The table we got was right next to the door and in a corner, so me and my guy couldn't even sit across from each other on for my reservation and my legs and arms were so cramped the entire time that I was terrified I was going to spill something. I couldn't even extend my legs fully. My server was amazing and she even brought us a little extra wine shot for our anniversary. I was just so put off by that dude and my table location... Now on to the food. No Notes. 5 stars. We tried oysters(raw and cooked), mussels, fish and chips, and yakamein. Chef Weeks and the crew knows what they are doing. The cooked oyster tasted like a lil chowder in the shell in the best way. It was amazing how they got all those flavors in one oyster without cooking it to death. The mussels and sexy toast? I don't know but that was the *BEST* piece of toast I've ever had in my life and I've suffered through a lot of hipster brunch cook shifts in a past life. Apparently Chef brought the yakamein back recently. I loved it. Yakamein and the bar menu was concise and perfect for the menu. Again, besides that initial interaction?(Especailly because it was a special occasion?) 10/10. Everything felt intentional, down to the glassware. Very glad to try Chef Weeks new spot. I knew going in that the food would be inspired, it was. Between the awesome duck nuggets, the well balanced Mirliton salad, and the down right delicious fish and chips with Mac and cheese - I was very happy with the food. The ambiance can be a vibe, it was so warm and pub style. And service was pleasant without being over the top. Yes they're still working out the kinks on flow and menu for NYE was different than normal and not clearly communicated- so be aware menu changes, and with that pricing as well. (There was certainly a pricing surcharge for NYE.) Combining all those things it was a wonderful experience - but because of cost not something I seeing being able to do regularly. I could at some point sit at the bar with a beer and a burger and be happy - but for $28 fish and chips I'll prob go someplace where they're under $15, of which there are several in Louisville. 4/5 stars or 80/100 overall for now, but I'll be back. read more

The time I went to Murray's Creole Pub I was impressed by the setting of the downstairs English Pub Bar. Upstairs was not opened yet. The food was new and exciting! A creative spin on the southern food and fair. Creole is not just New Orleans but a lot of the entire south. My favorite that night was the Duck Nuggets, the hamburger and fries. The food was amazing but the overall dining experience was...frustrating. We had a 7:30 PM reservation and arrived at 7:25. Despite that, we were not seated until 8:30 PM, and only after another party with the same reservation time who arrived after us was seated first. The place is pretty small, so we were left to wait at the host stand until a few bar seats opened. The place is small, which is not the restaurant's fault, but this something that could've been avoided with a better seating system. Once seated, the issues continued. We ordered immediately when our server first came to the table, but waited a while for our food. Meanwhile, a table that was seated after us ordered, received their food, ate, and left before our food arrived. To be very clear: this was not the fault of the host or our server, both of whom were kind and professional. The host even offered us a free round for the inconvenience. This is sadly a management and reservation system issue. The most frustrating part is the $25 cancellation fee, which feels unreasonable when reservations are not honored in practice. The food itself was genuinely delicious, but it arrived cold, which was disappointing. While the flavors were great, the experience overshadowed everything. The $38 catfish, in particular, was not worth the price given how the night unfolded. We're huge fans of the executive chef and open to going back, but only after the place has some time to work their kinks out. read more
