Can't tell you what kind of work they do as not really sure if they work or not. Went there at their opening time of 07:30 am and they were not ready to work. They asked me to give them about 15 minutes as there was on tech there yet. Waited the 15 minutes still no joy. Hey, if you're going to advertise work hours how about being ready to work during those hours not having a customer sitting around wasting their day because you can't get your garbage in one bag. Very unprofessional, wouldn't trust them to work on my hot wheels. read more

Liars and thieves! I have a 94 Bronco that I am the original owner of. It's passed every year. Now I have an illegal catalytic converter and it won't pass. "Wait what did that change recently? No! My car has a catalytic converter shield. It took a while to find a place that could accommodate me. Gratefully I called Smog Star and talked with Mike. Yesterday I brought my car in to be smogged. I was in and out in 30 minutes. The issue from what I understand is that 1. most smog places do not have a lift or rack to put the car up and 2.most mechanics do not know how to smog a car with a cat shield (duh). The cost was $90. Temecula Toyota offered to do it for $123. No thanks plus the 2 plus hour wait time! Thank you Mike for your excellent service. read more

Would give zero stars if I could. Walked in for a smog check, only customer in the building. The worker took a look under the hood, apparently didn't recognize a part, and said "I don't have time for this, go somewhere else." He then retreated back into the office. Went to Jefferson Smog right down the street and was done in less than 5 minutes. This guy was looking for an excuse not to work. The building smelled like human waste, by the way. read more

I do not recommend these mechanics! They are scammers! A new car from the showroom will not pass their SMOG check unless you pay double the rate. The mechanic has a very big appetite for money. Bad attitude towards women and bad attitude if you do not know English. They are ordinary scammers and demand double money for their services. They will try not to return your car keys until they take double money and will also call the police and complain that you do not agree with this deception. If you like stress and getting on your nerves with their deception and wasting your time, then go to them! I do not advise any normal person to undergo checks there! Seemingly decent people, maybe? But terrible business sense: Brought my jeep in for smog...thought it may not pass, so I came under the guise that if it failed I'd pay $60 and $20 for the re-test. After they fixed what ever problems existed. The first time I brought it in, after an hour they told me the machine broke and to come back another day, ok, fine, things break. Came back, and the jeep failed, BUT he said he would not fix it...not that he couldn't but that he wouldn't because they had too many jobs...so as a result, they charged me the full fee but the re-inspection was negated because now I have to get it repaired by someone that has a machine...ie, another smog guy!! He said I could come back after getting it fixed? What!? Burn a third day here after going to another place that will actually fix it? Solution: You don't want the work, fine, but since you essentially broke the contract, flip the script and charge me $20 for what you did do, rather than having me pay the full fee with no possible result, aside from a bad taste in my mouth and two wasted afternoons. read more

I called the same day to bring my car in for a smog check and it was a pleasant experience from start to finish. We were in and out in less than an hour. We even got to check out a cafe right across the street that the front desk lady recommended, which was perfect since my husband and I arrived close to lunchtime. Was told to drive all the way out from Ventura as they did the original Smog on this. Once I got there the person at the front desk was very incompetent and all he wanted to do was argue. Said he never told me to drive out it was somebody else. Then, I gave them the paperwork that they did the original Smog and he said he could not smog it in the original person that did the smog would not smog it either. They did approve this vehicle with the aftermarket items on it before but yet now they won't do it. I suggest people reconsider using this company as they are very incompetent and do not stand behind the original work. I will be turning these people into the bureau of automotive repair. read more

BEWARE, after this test-only shop added "and repair", management is looking to gouge. My Dodge passed emissions test! I repeat, PASSED EMISSIONS TEST! Then Eric looked for a "repair", found a catalytic converter number he could charge service to replace. Was then obligated by government notification so I had the converter replaced elsewhere for considerably less $$! Would like to use stronger words about feeling ripped-off! murrieta smog star claimed my newly installed catalytic converter was "tampered" with despite being provided with the emissions sticker which proved the part was within compliance. I went to another shop and they verified the catalytic converter was the right part and passed my car without issue. After writing a review for them on google they are now claiming that the shop that passed my car did so illegally and is under investigation... sure dude, over 20 years of car ownership and this is the first time anyone has ever failed my car. There was NO REASON to fail my car, never was and this shop just needed to fail a car to meet criteria so they didn't get investigated themselves. Way to show your professionalism give me a break, absolutely pathetic. As if it wasn't bad enough that you took my money while providing no service but then to go online and lie to try to protect your reputation which is clearly declining. The government can feel free to investigate the passing of my cars smog, I'm happy to provide my emissions sticker and have my car inspected to prove your incompetence. I challenge the owner, since he likes to make wild claims, to refund my money when he's proven wrong. read more

Do not, I repeat, do not try to get your smog test done here! The owner, Eric, is extremely rude and has no sense of customer relations. Went in to get a smog test for my van and was told the catalytic converter was upside down and he could not read the numbers. He informed me that if he had the numbers on the converter, he could do the work. After going back to my mechanic, he informed that the numbers were visible and provided them to me to give to Eric. I go in to the smog center and provide them directly to Eric and then he informs me he has to be able to read the numbers on the converter itself. I asked why didn't he tell me this before going to the mechanic. What a run around and still no smog test! He then has the balls to tell me to get out. I will be contacting the Better Business Bureau about this one! read more

Do not take your vehicle here if it's not newer than a 1995 model. I've lived in Murrieta since 1987 and have taken my 1986 Mercedes 300E, along with my other vehicles, here since it opened. I recently took the 300E in for a smog test two years ago and it passed with no problem. When I took my 1986 300E there on 4/13/2018, I was told they would not check it. I asked if there was a new policy and the employee said the owner does not want to check vehicles older than 1995 models. I said fine and took it to KWIC Smog, down the street, and they checked it with no problem. My 1986 Mercedes 300E passed with flying colors like it always does. I've always had a minimum of three newer cars or trucks and will not have any of my vehicles serviced here in the future. They have lost a loyal customer. KWIC Smog rocks! read more
