I've been going to Kurtis for about 6 months now. He is the best! I would never go to another stylist after him. He really takes the time to listen to what you want, and will be honest about whether or not it will work for your hair. Best of all, he is patient and willing to teach you how to style your hair. I didn't have a clue and he worked with me on what products would work best (but he didn't push me to buy anything) and he taught me how to properly use styling tools (seriously, I had no clue. Hairbrush & blow dryer were foreign objects to me). Also, Kurtis is a TON OF FUN!!! He's great to talk to and it's clear he really loves his job. As for the salon itself, it's small but very cute and friendly. The patio out front is very inviting, and the open doors and sunshine made for a very relaxing experience on my last visit. read more

Marci has been cutting my hair for 7 years. In addition to being a lovely person, she is a fabulous hair stylist and a consummate professional! I have curly coarse hair that I wear anywhere from shoulder length to super, super short. I can bring her a picture of any cut I like and she is able to apply that style to my hair type and face structure. This is a long over due review. After a horrible experience at another salon I came to Muse to fix the damage that was done to my hair. I went in blindly not knowing anything about the stylist I was coming in to see because I was in such desperate need to correct the damage done. I ended up with Christopher and I have to say I got extremely lucky. I can't say enough good things about him! He not only corrected the color but also was able to get my hair healthy again. He not only takes the time to understand your vision for your hair but he also tells you if it's attainable or not and why. Both of which are amazing qualities in a hair stylist. I've seen him several times now and every experience has been top notch. No complaints. I'm moving out of the area this month but I will be driving up to get my hair done by Christoper which speaks volumes. Great job Muse, you have an amazing stylist! read more

Well if you want a magical experience beyond your typical salon than you may want to book yourself an appointment at Muse. From the moment you walk in the experience begins. I was greeted by June Bug!!! (the owner's dog) and my journey began:) Then i checked in w/ the awesome receptionist who was so welcoming and amazing. Marci the owner was scheduled to cut my hair. You can tell she is very confident in what she does and knows her stuff. She is an artist so you will experience someone looking at you as a piece of art not just a hair cut. All the art in the salon was done by her. Oh and by the way her assistant was the best ever. He did a great job and made me feel really comfortable. My partner also received a hair cut from Christopher and he is also outstanding at what he does. Marci made sure I was happy with my hair and also really took the time to do what was best for my hair type. I really appreciated the vibes in the salon and felt a really good energy amongst the workers which is important. If you ever are in this area please do yourself a favor and get your hair done here. This is by far one of the THE best salons in the greater Sacramento area. Everyone is genuinely friendly and the stylists here are very knowledgeable. My stylist Ling is great; she listens to my concerns (and my drama but that's beside the point) and offers great suggestions. She goes beyond and follows up after my appointments. She's been all over the world, and incorporates all kinds of techniques in her practice. I love her scalp massages. Even if you don't want a haircut, go in for a shampoo just to try her scalp massages. She has a great upbeat positive attitude that rubs off on me. read more

This is my second 'yelping'.....for MUSE Salon. I went in and got my color! It was great, my scalp was massaged, my color and style looked refreshed. I will be back again to see Kirstyn. She is amazing! The music was very french and I felt I was somewhere else. I thought I needed a cut, but after my hair was blown out I was blown away. The cut from over 9 weeks ago is still amazing, just like Kirstyn. The next day I didn't wash my hair and refreshed it a bit, and the style and cut was still there. The cut means everything. My friends and I had a good time and as I waited for them I was able to sneak out and get a sandwich. Kirstyn is wonderful and everyone at MUSE is just great. I will go back and hopefully not wait so long. Their service is just great and again, the place is so cool! read more

I can't tell you how happy I am to have finally made the plunge into Muse. I bike by every morning and I frequent the area a bit. I'm not a very hip kinda girl, so going into the R district can sometimes be intimitating for me if I am not dressed up even a bit (sometimes I'm in yoga pants or in ratty bike gear), but always a great experience whenever I do go. Shady lady is right next door, as is Burgers and Brew, and a couple other places down the way for a good time and some extra curricular pampering. The staff at Muse are very down to earth and the space feels just right. A girl walked in with a Groupon while I was there, and I was super impressed by the stylist at the booth next to mine and that he treated her just as if she wasn't using a Grouon coupon. I think thats excellent service. And the other gals in the salon were very fun (none of that catty weirdness you might find elsewhere-ugh, I'm so sick of that). The other folks I saw leaving the place had the MOST FABULOUS hair jobs. I was impressed before even getting anything done to my hair. I was offered a drink and my bag was taken and stored in a nice secure place at my stylists work station. I know that seems like the norm, and it's what I expect, but going to a new place is a bit distracting and nerve racking. Having someone else help you think about where to stow your stuff and offer you a beverage on a hot day just takes the pressure of a frazzling experience at a new place. After being with my same hair person for more than 10 years, I started feeling really bored and really just wanted a different vibe and something in the mid-town where its closer to the stuff and people that I like to be around. I called up Muse and told them a little bit about myself and what I was going for. The receptionist hooked my up with Nicholas. They couldn't have found a better match. He is amazing. He's adorable. He listens. and I particularly like that he is deliberate with his scissors and pays attention to what he is doing. I appreciate that he is very much involved with his scissors and hands. He talks and engages, asks good questions, and has positive feedback about what will work will for your face shape, skin tone, etc, and your overall objectives with your hair. But as I prefer, he was very much about my hair.... which is why I came in the first place, right. He washed my hair, and did a fantasic towel wrap (I hate walking across the salon dripping) and asked me all about my everyday styles, hair prep, products, etc that I use so that he could do the perfect cut for me (btw, I gave him free rein with my hair with a few exceptions - the style of bangs I wanted and to keep the length). He was attentive and had really good ideas. Unexpecting, I even got a full blow dry and style. I guess I've gotten used to NOT getting those things where I used to go without other included fees. I'm so happy with my look and my connection with Nicholas @ Muse. I am so excited that I get to see him again in the next few weeks to do my color. I hear rave reviews about his coloring. I look and feel beautiful, and so does my fiance. I'm so excited to continue this relationship with Nick as my hairstylist. I give him and Muse five stars. read more

I've looked around the greater Sacramento area for a good stylist and I gotta say that Ling is by far the best I have met! Initial thought of her was very friendly, warm, and welcoming. She really takes her time to get to know you and listens to you to see what style of hair fits you the best. She was also very informative, recommending me what i can do with my hair, and also recommended me hair products to use. Great fashion sense, she is good with details and possesses awesome styling skills! The salon is very tidy with a nice decor, staff was friendly and offered me a drink. My overall experience was great! I ended up loving my haircut! and I will definitely see her again for my next haircut and probably for a long time! I just have to express how much I love my stylist, Christopher. I have been seeing him for a few years now. He does amazing work for layers and color/highlights. So amazing I get asked in an airport who does my hair, my co-workers and my daughter now goes to him. :-) Everyone there has been very friendly from setting an appointment to the time I arrive. I love the email reminders, text receipts and the option to make an appointment online. No one is ever pushy about products either. To start off, i'm very picky when it comes to my hair. I have been bouncing around from salon to salon trying to find a solid stylist(and my sister is a stylist too). I ended hearing about Muse from a friend and thought I'd give it a try. Best decision I've made in a long time. I booked an appointment with Kirstyn and was very pleased with the outcome. Her attention to detail was awesome and i felt like she fully customized my hair for me. She took her time and gave great suggestions on what looks good. It really felt like i had a personal stylist. Nicholas Conrad is the absolute best!!! I am a very particular person and he is so great at understanding what I want. Nicholas has been coloring my mom's hair for a while and always does such a perfect job. My hair color is very unique so I've always been afraid to have anything done to it, but just recently I had Nicholas add highlights. It looks so natural! Amanda did the makeup for my wedding. She not only did me, but she also did all of my bridesmaids (8 people!). And, she still had time to artistically dab on some sparklies for the flower girls, which thrilled all of them. Amanda was an extreme professional, but also very easygoing, friendly, direct, and efficient. Her communication was great... and she was also amazing ad deciphering my random vision into a coherent, gorgeous, and perfect look. It was exactly what I'd hoped for. Also, I cannot remember touching up the entire night, which is kind of incredible. Early in the planning process, I did not hear back from her right away, but don't let that deter you! She's worth it, and once we connected, all was easy peasy. I cannot recommend Amanda enough. read more

I have been a client of Nicholas Peters for a long time. I have very unruly, coarse, frizzy hair that only Nick can tame. I have been recieving Brazilian blowouts, coloring and cuts and can honestly say he is absolutely a master of hair. I got my haircut by Nicholas on Saturday. I should probably mention that I'm very particular about my hair and was devastated when my previous stylist moved to the east coast recently. At a friend's suggestion I gave Nicholas a chance. No stylist, not even my previous hair guru, had ever styled my hair in a manner that fit my liking. I usually would just slap on a ball cap after every previous haircut. I walked out of Muse feeling like five billion bucks. Nicholas' skillset includes truly studying the symmetry of your face and deciding what works best in you. He's kind of quiet, but watching him in action you can see that he's completely focused on giving you the best version of you that money can buy. I didn't even wash my hair for two days and tried desperately to recreate his creative magic in my mane, sadly to no avail. So, in conclusion, my hair and I hair just made a new best friend. read more

Dreadful place but had to give one star to post. Unproffesional. Don't go here if you're not young & thin. I have been going here for approx 2 yrs for lack of energy to find another place. On my 2d visit, with a scheduled appt, I arrived to find a walk-in friend of Nicolas's had displaced my appt causing me to wait an extra 45 min. Although I thought it rude, I gave a sl greater than 20% tip. On subsequent visits, I requested certain cuts and lengths from Nicolas but found he cut my hair to his preference. I had to be insistent to get it cut the way I wanted it cut. In June I went for a cut & he literally hacked it to the point that I was too embarrassed to be in a picture. I felt that he had purposely done this to be rid of me as a customer. I scheduled an appt for yesterday @ 5 p.m. only to arrive (with great effort on my part) for a cut only to find that he was washing someone's hair. He took them to the seat that should have been mine, began separating & foiling her hair. He never came & spoke to me, never apologized & I did hear the customer say "not so discreet" which I felt applied to his feeling for me & the bad hair cut he had given me in June. He was chatting it up with the client. I left, met the receptionist outside & told her I was leaving. She asked if I was cancelling my appt. I told her that HE had done that. I find his behavior to be unprofessional, rude, ageist, and discriminatory. I plan to file a complaint with the board of cosmetology. I called today to speak with the owner, was told that she had just stepped out, was told she stepped back in so I asked again to speak to her but Karen came to the phone. I now find this entire Salon to be unprofessional & less than honest. Good riddance to them. I went home & had to cut my own hair since the arthritis in my hands prevents me from washing it with ease when it is too long. It didn't look any worse than Nicolas's cut in June. They've just lost 2 customers (my partner as well) who paid, tipped well, and who gave them no reason to be treated badly. The ownership is a reflection of their high tolerance of unprofessional behavior. If the owner won't come to the phone there is no accountability. Go somewhere else & be treated with respect. read more
