I had never been here before tonight but I can't wait to return! If you're from Iowa and can remember your school crispitos lunch with a smile you're in luck! The crispitos were just like the ones I had in school in northern Iowa, the fries were slightly seasoned, hot and fresh, the beer is cold and very cheap, service excellent and apple cobbler out of this world! They do feature Phat Daddy's bbq and will be starting Thursday night karaoke with all day happy hour. I will also throw in the fact they have a jukebox! I like a good burger. I like a burger with something different on it. The waitress was fabulous! We showed up just moments before happy hour was over and we were able to get our drinks in before the special was over. The place was reasonably busy. They have TVs with sports on and lots of local sport memorabilia on the wall. We really got a kick out of the old wrestling robe that looked like something that Mr. Hefner would wear around bunnies. We all got different burgers at a table top of 7. The waitress did a fantastic job on keeping all our drinks filled and food came out in decent time for us. People around us were well attended to and everyone really enjoyed their food. I liked my pineapple on my burger and the fries were done just right. I really do love small local places to get a few beers, apps, burgers and catch some of a game. This spot has off of that. It is cozy and staff has been friendly. They do have some specials going usually. Ive had several different burgers and this has met the bill. Nothing to fancy, just good old classics on the menu. I don't feel out of place here and feel like I can have a good time. Give it a shot. read more

The BBQ is AMAZING!! We had the Brisket sandwich and the ribs. Ribs were fall off the bone smoky and sweet perfection. The brisket sandwich was smoky sweet with a slight smoky sweet crunch but so tender. This is a must stop, and a fore sure revisit for us. read more

It looked to be very popular with the locals, and I think I know why... the food is great , and was exactly what I was expecting for a local bar and grill. Service was prompt and polite. Great and friendly owner. Very personable and gives attention to his customers. Had a burger expecting great things. Bun, bacon and fries were good. BBQ sauce was good. They even got mozzarella cheese for me. Unfortunately, the meat itself was mediocre and wasn't really cooked to order either. Was a plain jane grey patty with no real flavor in it. I still plan to go back. Especially to try breakfast. Just hope the owner and cook consider improving their beef patty. I don't doubt using meat from the local Fareway would have a dramatic improvement. read more

My husband and I were in Iowa to look at a car, and decided to stop in here to eat lunch. It was just the kind of place we love to go to. The food was EXCELLENT!! Everyone in there was very friendly and treated us great. The restrooms were amazing!! My husband says they were like in a show home. Everything was so clean!! There is really nothing bad to say about this place. If you live in the area and have not been here, you really should go. If you are traveling through like we were and want some really great food you will not be sorry you stopped in here!!!! read more

Nice location and service, but unfortunately that's where it ends. Beer selection is limited and boring. The food is either frozen and warmed, or "fresh" and terrible. Out of a recent group of four, three of us ordered barbecue that is "made for Mustang Grill". The pork and beef sandwich I ordered was delivered with way too much meat, which is an odd thing to complain about. But it was impossible to eat as a sandwich. Once I tasted the meat it was clear they operate under a quantity over quality mantra. The barbecue was borderline inedible it tasted so bad. I doused it in extra sauce and that couldn't even save it. It had no flavor, but also tasted oddly charred. I took my extensive leftovers home in a lapse in judgement, then promptly threw them away when I got home. I would strongly recommend they find another source for their barbecue... read more

Enjoyed a casual breakfast in this cool, older building this morning. The loaded hash browns were full of peppers and onions and enough to share with my honey. Coffee was strong and worth the visit itself. So happy to have this location open again, as it has changed ownership frequently the last few years. Friends have enjoyed a good burger here for lunch and they have a nice range of drink options for the happy hour and evenings of music on Friday nights. The management checked in with us frequently and made us feel like we were having breakfast at a family friends home. The decor is full of the Dallas Center Grimes color, uniforms and pictures and fits well with the neighborhood. There is word that after the games, specials are offered on different items. With the two large TV's we can watch the games too. A great spot for a happy hour drink after work and for bringing the family for breakfast or lunch. read more

Went there for breakfast with a friend. The owner was very welcoming and the place had a fun, enjoyable atmosphere. We had a great conversation with him about the restaurant and Main St. Very nice guy. The breakfast burrito (#28, I believe) was phenomenal. One of the best I've had. And it was big.. Very big. Absolutely love this place! The menu isn't very big (maybe 30 options) but what they serve makes up for the size. My wife and two kids and I ate there and were more than satisfied for $35 (including tip). I personally would recommend the spicy Mustang burger or the French dip! Wanted something quick that was nearby and saw this was pretty well rated on Yelp. We sat out on the back patio which was a nice setting on a beautiful day. I ordered the Mustang Chips for an appetizer and the Black and Bleu burger for my entree. Both were good- nothing out of the ordinary but good food that you would expect from an American Grill. well the big specialty burger $11 that boasted it was 1 lb was no where near a pound.. And it was gray meat with grease bubbles all over it. And had a funny smell. I hope since they only have burgers and one grilled cheese (that sounded good), and one chicken sandwich (that was good) that they will fix their burgers to a hand formed patty or atleast better quality of meat. And season it. They had home made chips but with a cinnamon and chipolte seasoning that seemed very out of place and wasn't very good at all. I hope they add some salad options and more healthier options so they will last longer then most sports bar and grills in Grimes bc they restaurant itself is very neat. A restored old brick building on main street that is done very close to original. And our food came out very spaced out half of us were done by the time the others food came out. And that was us just picking at it very slowly since we felt bad for our friends who hadn't came out yet. All and all they have great potential if they get abetter cook and some healthier options with quality ingredients. If the menu is still the same when you go, take my advice just get the chicken club, it had a garlic mayo on it that was good. Oh and bring a coat in bc the whole front is glass and is pretty cold and when the door opens it gusts into the whole place, keep in mind I did say it's a very old place that has been restored. But I think a space heater up front or a cute electric fireplace would do a lot of good up front. read more

Such a fabulous spot on a cute old-feel Main Street. I've been to the grill 3 times so far...the coffee was delicious, staff was friendly and prompt, and the food was amazing. I suggest the Not-So-Average Grilled Cheese. I mean come on...who doesn't like grilled cheese to begin with but Mustang Grill takes it to a new level. American, cheddar, provolone, and mozzarella with fresh spinach and homemade mango salsa in the middle makes for a party in your mouth my friends. The ambiance is relaxed and plenty of tv's to watch your favorite sports. There is a such a great local feel here and the owner is especially present and accommodating. Have been there twice. First time - very friendly and although nachos were like what you would get from the concession stand at a high school football game, we liked the rest of the food, friendly service and decor. Second time - Stopped for breakfast on a bike ride. Went inside to order at 10:01 AM (no kidding), we could smell the aroma of breakfast and see breakfast dishes in the process of being cleared from a recently used table. We were told that "we don't serve breakfast after 10:00, we are now serving lunch and the regular menu" - unfortunately, I will not be going back after that. Poor way to treat customers. read more

I really want to like this place as I am a local! I really like the interior and the relaxed atmosphere. I have eaten there twice and both times the food was meh. Last time I had a burger and the meat was extremely bland. It was just a grey burger - no char from the grill or grill marks. Very tasteless. The french fries were pretty good but the ranch was a big disappointment. It was generic bottled ranch. That may not be a big thing for a lot of people but I am a ranch and sauce person and that is a big downfall to me. We also got cheeseballs for an appetizer and you get a lot of them and they were your regular average cheeseballs. To me they would have been better with good ranch. My husband got a chicken sandwhich and he said he really really enjoyed it! So I will try this place again and maybe I am just ordering the wrong thing. The burgers are definitely nothing great. I would also like to try their breakfast. The payment process was very easy as they give you an ipad that has your bill and everything on it and you can just swipe your card and have the receipt texted or emailed to you - that made it very easy to pay. I read about this place online when I was looking for a place to meet a co-worker halfway between our offices on a regular basis. I'm still looking. This place was not good. Simple scrambled eggs were served not scrambled but just mixed up a little bit with a thick line of dark grey around the edges. He said 'don't worry about the grey, that's just what I spray on the grill to make it not stick'. Really?? They were not good. The toast was served hardly toasted and dry; I had to ask for butter.
