Had food to go last night. would never go back. Teriyaki chicken, white rice, small salad,pork fried rice. All were so-so for about $35. teriyaki was terrible. Salad greens looked old. (bagged lettuce is better) The one positive is the ginger dressing was good. Pork rice was very bland. read more

Not a good first impression. We went in for dinner on a week night and I thought it would be a good thing that there were only 4 other tables in use at the time. Our server was polite and greeted us promptly and the evening went all wrong after that. Our coconut shrimp appetizer arrived and the coconut tasted almost burnt. I had asked if it would be possible for my entree to be made without mushrooms and with shrimp instead of chicken. I was told yes. When our meal arrived, my entree had shrimp as I requested and the mushrooms that I asked be omitted. Our server apologized and said it would only take a few minutes for the chef to redo it correctly. It took a bit longer than I hoped it would as my husband's dinner sat on the table getting cold while he waited for mine to be cooked. When the entree finally arrived, it was cooked with both shrimp and chicken. The server apologized profusely and didn't charge us for our meal when we asked for the bill so we could leave. If a kitchen can not make a good meal when they aren't under pressure of a busy night, what do they do when they are busy? I won't bother going back to find out. read more

If you're thinking about going here...just don't. I work nearby, and once in a while we will go to Chili's after I get off. Tonight we thought we would try the Mustard Seed instead. The place was totally empty (should have been our first clue). Service was good, no complaints there. But the food was completely overpriced, for small tasteless portions. We ordered spring rolls for an appetizer, and I swear I had these same things as a demo at Costco. For entrees, we got Broccoli Beef, and Almond Chicken. The beef was completely chewy, and the vegetables were soggy. The almond chicken was ok, but not worth the almost $15 we paid for the tiny amount of food. Skip this place. Consistently attentive service and delicious food. Chicken Osaka, Teriyaki Chicken and Fried Rice are the absoute best dishes and the portions are enough so that 3 entrees easily feed 4 people. I've been less than impressed with Chicken with Peppers and Mushroom beef - a little bland and boring, so clearly not all dishes are created equal. Prices are fair and the location is convienent. In my vast search for good Asian cuisine in Spokane, I went to the mustard seed thinking that it would be similar to the other Asian chain restaurants like P.F. Changs, etc. The service was great and all of the servers were extremely friendly. However, the food was just not appealing. It was bland and flavorless and just boring. I did however like the cheesecake I had for dessert but that is not saying much considering I am sure it is made somewhere else. The atmosphere was cold and "mall-like" as others have said. I don't think I will be going back just because the food is not worth spending money on. read more

I had a beef and broccoli rice bowl w/ gluten free soy sauce! It was really really good! I just had a side of the caramel ginger sauce and it made for a great lunch. If you have allergies to gluten, as my sister and I do, you can ask them and they really know what you can have. I do wish they actually had a menu, but it is great to know we can go there without getting sick. I do like PF changs better, but this place is good too! read more

Very disappointed! My husband and I had our first date here 8 years ago. so we have tried to go back every year on our anniversary, but thru the years the food quality has declined tremendously! Our recent visit this week was the worst!!! we are finally giving up on mustard seed. The rice tasted like it was out of a microwave. Veggie dish, which according to our server, comes with lots of veggies had maybe three pieces of zucchini. My firework chicken was bland and stale. The server never refilled our drinks. Needless to say we have given up on mustard seed. The service and food quality deteriorated over the years. We are going to create new traditions. read more

Awsome service and even better food. We ordered coconut shrimp and there green beans. They where both delicious. Prawns seem to be in fryer just little to long but where still very good. The Almond chicken, aloha chicken and the ginger chicken where all awsome. Portion size was great as chicken all came on seperate plates with a seperate bowl of rice. I am only writing a review on the bar area and happy hour (HH). I've eaten here many- a-times, but it was pre-Yelp days, so I will comment on the restaurant when I eat there. The bar area, sometimes you might get noticed when you walk in and sometimes not right away. I'm a firm beliver that you always make eye contact or some kind of acknowlegement with a customer as they walk in or walk up,even if you cannot get to them right away. WIth that said, the HH here is pretty good for the North side of town. They have HH, M-F from 4-6 they have a menu of about 10 food items and well drinks are $3, drafts, $3 and wine $?? (I don't know - I wasn't with my classy friends). I've been here twice in the past 2 weeks for HH. My favorites to get at HH is the big island wings (4 pcs), Asian glazed ribs (3 pcs), and scrimp wontons (2 pcs) . Each of those is $2 each..YUP! in the state of the economy, thats a pretty dang good deal. The wings itself are deep fried wings with their "asian" sauce . They have a good amount of meat to these, so its not the paltry poultry (LOL) The Asian glazed ribs are already cut up ribs with a good amount of meat on these also, as you guessed it, with their "asian" sauce to it. I'm guessing its a different sauce than what they use for the chicken. The shrimp wontons are a little paltry, its minced shrimp wrapped in a wonton and then deep fried. Nothing to write home about, but pretty good to round out most of your meal, that way you hit all the major meats (pork, beef, and seafood). Needless to say, I would recommed this place to anyone thats in the area between 4 and 6 Monday thru Friday. read more

My fiance and I returned here today for some lunch and drinks, and had some pretty bad service. Our server (an older woman with red hair named Beth M) was cold, condescending and somewhat intimidating towards us. I felt uncomfortable every time she came to the table. She brought us our bill before we were even close to being finished because she took it upon herself to assume that we were done? Wtf. I've never had that happen before. It made us feel like we were being pushed out when we wanted to just sit for awhile and have a leisurely lunch. I grew up going to the Mustard Seed in Missoula Montana. I recently moved to Spokane and was so excited to have it again. We had, what I always ordered as a kid, the pork wontons as a starter and the beef teriyaki and chicken teriyaki as our main. They were all phenomenal!!!! It is as amazing as I remembered it. They are still the best version of those three dishes I have ever had (I have had versions of these all over the country).The wontons are light and very crispy and the teriyaki is not like the sugary charred teriyaki you usually find. Absolutely awful! I would have been better off eating at Panda Express at least you know what to expect! The service was horrible, one patron actually got up and left and no one seemed to blink an eye. My gyoza came out cold and i'm not sure what their definition of fusion is, but I think this placed has only fused their definition of Chinese/Asian with bad taste. What a waste of money.
