Last time I was here was 13 years ago. We wanted to grab a bite before the movie. I was originally cautious due to the current lower rating but decided to take a chance. I started out with the Fireworks Shrimp which was great. Moved on to lunch portions of the mushroom beef and the almond chicken which were also great. The server Zach was over the the top. I actually like the Mustard Seed more than PF changs from my experiences eating here. Their chicken lettuce wraps are just as good, and that is the only reason why I would even go to PF changs in the first place. I would try hitting them up for lunch, becasue for $8.95, you can't go wrong for their lunch specials. You get rice and "asian slaw" which is greatly refreshing, and I would try their beef and broccili or their Spicy ginger chicken. The service is nothing to write home about, but their food is damn good. read more

Terrible service holy cow no customer service we sat for 20 min before I asked why weren't seated when they are full staffed and very few customers in store. Then my wife proceeded to use the restroom which had no toilet paper in any of the stalls real classy if you like real trashy. I was far from impressed by my dish, so I tried bites of everybody else's. Lo and behold, nothing from their's either. We ordered 2 entrees for delivery tonight. Almond Chicken and Beef Teriyaki. We also ordered the noodle chicken soup and the huckleberry cheesecake. We received our order on time. The soup was plentiful and had a good flavor though it was barely warm so we microwaved it. We went to dish out our entrees and discovered there was no rice with it. The entrees were also lukewarm so we had to microwave them. The Almond chicken was was flavorless, the Teriyaki Beef was ok, but neither were enjoyable without a bed of rice underneath them. I ordered from Mustard Seed thinking this would be a special place to order for a special anniversary dinner since both my husband and I had recent surgeries and were unable to physically go out to dinner. What a mistake! I called the restaurant to let them know that they had forgotten the rice. The woman apologized and offered to comp our dinner for the price of the rice by $5.00. I was having a rough Tuesday and we were waiting for our oven from lowes that never came so I stopped by with my family for dinner. Needless to say I was impressed with the great service and very solid teriyaki. The monkey drinks made me smile. The egg rolls, noodles, and beef make this a great stop. Far better than pf changs! This is just a meh place honestly. There is no culinary creativity and nothing to inspire your palate . We order the shrimp fried noodles, salty salty bleh, seriously that was the only flavor coming through. Also ordered the Thai Curry Chicken, basically noodle soup, way too much sauce, and the chicken was burnt. Just overall not impressed. I had higher expectations and came in with no knowledge of the business. The fact that they advertise Noodle express locations turned me off. My wife and I have been going here since they opened; we now go here for "date night" and both of us LOVE the food, especially the house rice. We have only had one disappointment with the staff and that was with a server who didn't write our order down correctly; needless to say it was a disaster. Mustard seed is great for what it is. It is not authentic Japanese, Chinese, or anything else. It is an American hybrid. The dishes are spicy and quite good. I enjoy trying something new each time. I haven't found one that was bad yet. The space has a large warehouse area that can be noisy and annoying, and then there are the booths on the West side that are more intimate and quiet. So depending on where you are seated you will have a different experience. Service is a little spotty. Sometimes is is great and others times it almost serve yourself. I truly love their Almond Chicken! The sauce is amazing and their chicken is always cooked just right, perfectly fried and tender. We order to go s lot and usually everything is perfect. Had a slight hiccup this week with our order and ended up getting a lot less then we usually do with a different sauce then normal (Carmel sauce). Still got some almond sauce but not enough. They were slammed so it's understandable, just have never had to check our order before we leave and now we may have too. Don't worry, the almond chicken keeps us coming back. read more

My husband and I tried this place out and ordered chow mein, fried rice, and the ginger chicken they have along with gyoza for an appetizer... This food was sooooooooooooo bland. It literally had no flavor! That's for literally everything I just listed that we ordered. It had no "Asian flare", nothing. The gyoza was gross too. It literally tasted like the ones they sell at Costco and soooo not restaurant quality! The ginger chicken literally had a whole bottle of whatever sauce they use and that's it. So disappointing. I went to the Mustard Seed on my 50th birthday. It's a nice place with some ambiance and lots of space. The service is friendly and fast. Too fast for for good food, and that's the problem. The food is absolutely awful. Bland, textureless, and just overall comes across as really cheap and amateurish. My wife ordered a spicy chicken dish that should have been easy to knock out of the park, but it was completely flavorless except for a bit of spiciness. My brother had a noodle dish with a sauce that tasted exactly like peanut butter and mayo. It was nauseating. I had the deep-fried halibut, which is one of the most expensive things on the menu. I can tell you for certain that it was frozen and came right out of a bag. When I order $22.50 worth of halibut, I expect it to be fresh, and I expect the batter to be made from scratch and have some character. It came with a vegetable slaw that simply had nothing to do with the halibut from a flavor standpoint. All they had to do was add some acid to brighten it up, and that would have paired beautifully with a fatty/salty, scratch-made halibut batter, but instead I got a pile of soggy veggies that added literally nothing. The rice was nice and firm, but was basically filler. No taste at all. Presentation was atrocious. Food piled haphazardly on plates. One bright note: we had the California Rolls as an appetizer, and they were very good. But how hard is it to make a good California Roll? Skip the Mustard Seed and go to the Chili's right next door. Sure, it's Chili's, but at lest you know what to expect and can count on getting it. read more

I absolutly LOVE this place!!! Delicious food, and great environment! The servers are slow sometimes, even when theres no rush, they still like to take their time, chit-chatin somewhere where they think u cant see them, lol. my absoulute fav is the CHINESE ROAST PORK appetizer (Pork tenderloin slow roasted in Chinese spices. Served with hot mustard, hot red sauce, and sesame seeds. the pork itself is served cold) YUMMY!! The BONG BONG CHICKEN is very good too!! I like that whatever entree you order, they bring it in its own plate, with white rice served seperately. We were really looking forward to splurging on take-out from the Mustard Seed tonight. We haven't been for quite some time. There were very few diners in the restaurant but it is Sunday night after all. We ordered Chicken Osaka, Almond Chicken, lettuce wraps, Coconut Curry chicken stir-fry. What a disappointment. Chicken Osaka was just strips of chicken with very little flavor. The Almond Chicken was ok but very small portion. The stir-fry was gummy and certainly didn't taste like curry or coconut. The lettuce wraps were good. We spent $70 for a dinner that wasn't nearly as good a $20 dinner at Panda Express! We will not be returning anytime soon. Poor quality at a high price. read more

What a disappointment!. Sure it is in a dead mall, but the outside and inside decor looked young and fresh so I had to check it out. Service was great, the server was polite and fast, but unfortunately, she was not cooking the food. It all could have been cooked at a lousy Panda Express, taken downstairs, through the back door of the "restaurant" because that's exactly how it tasted. Even the music playing seemed to bother me (80's hits). Not exactly what I would expect from an Asian Restauant. The best part was my hot green tea. The last couple of times visiting Spokane, family had been raving about this place and the Chicken Osaka. Finally came here the other day, and of course had to order the Chicken Osaka. My BF ordered a spicy shrimp & peppers dish. The Chicken Osaka was good, it comes with a side of their special mustard sauce, which I'm glad was on the side, I wasn't too fond of it. Thankfully I ordered the "bowl" which is a lunch sized meal. My BF ordered a full order and wow, they served a HUGE bowl of rice with it, like enough for 3-4 people. We arrived around 3:30 PM just before lunch prices ended. We were greeted promptly and seated in the bar area. Unfortunately we were seated next to a server who was off duty and having very loud conversations with anyone who would listen and some who wouldn't! She was kicking her legs out so you couldn't even get through to go to the bathroom you had to go around the entire booth area. Though there were several people around who looked like they might be managers, no one said anything to stop this. Our waitress/bartender there seemed to be handling just about everything leaving us not to get our order placed until almost 4 o'clock. She was kind and gracious but very busy. Our food arrived lukewarm but flavor was good. I was very disappointed in the service and the lack of respect. This was my husband's first visit and I don't think he'll be going back! Especially after watching one of the other waiters stick their thumb in the dishes hang them down below their waist and take them to another table to deliver the food. Make she wonder what happens when no one can see what's going on. Can't go any lower than one star or else I would. We ordered take-out to be ready in a half hour - their timing for the order. When I arrived (right on time), I paid for my order and was told "your order will be ready in a few minutes". 15 minutes later, it came out. I've been there before and have to wait a few minutes, but nothing like this. Most times, the order is ready when I get there. While I was there, the manager took a call from a customer waiting for the delivery driver. It was 10 minutes after the promised delivery time. She argued with the customer, rather than try to diffuse the situation. The restaurant was not busy and they seemed to have adequate staff to take care of the dine-in and bar customers. Bottom line - if you order take-out or delivery, ask for a realistic time when the food will be ready. read more

I love this place every time I'm in Spokane I eat here. I love their lunch menu. I recommend the honey chicken, Asian salad which comes with the lunch is awesome. The five stars for the food not the waitstaff I had last time. It was a young man who forgot first what we ordered and had to come back after 20 minutes and then I had asked another server for water because I couldn't find him. My husband and I ate lunch here today around 11 am. I told the hostess that I only had an hour because I was on my lunch break. The staff was ON IT with my request. Josh was an awesome server. He took our orders immediately and we had our food hot and on our table very fast. When Josh noticed that my husband's portion of Teriyaki beef was a little smaller than normal, he took it upon himself to request more. This was a total surprise to us when he brought it to our table because we didn't complain about it. Their lunch portions are very generous. Our food was very delicious and I was back at my desk within 50 minutes of leaving for lunch. You guys are awesome! read more

This is my fourth visit to Mustard Seed at the Northtown Mall in Spokane. I had the Chicken Osaka this time and it was great, and the sauce it's in is off-the-charts awesome! I like the mustard seed, it has good food and they give you large portions. However, it is owned by the same company that owns noodle express, so it is literally a more expensive version of that. I prefer to just go to noodle express because it is pretty much the same food for cheaper and it's just as good. But it's good none the less. read more

Always a great meal! I love the lunch bowl which you can get at dinner for an extra dollar. The Asian slaw is wonderful.

No where near as good as I thought it would be considering all that my friends did was rant and rave over this place. I would seriously rather eat at a cheap, dirty chinese buffet than eat there again. The service was good and the restaurant itself is pretty. But the food was nothing impressive. The food sort of looked Asian but it had no subtleties of flavor like I would expect from a competent chef. We ordered three very different dishes and it's as if they used the same can of turkey gravy on all three. We left most of it behind uneaten and didn't ask for our usual to-go boxes. The waitperson is what truly ruined the experience. She was far too loud and chatty and interrupted our conversation every time she walked past. Rather than checking in to see if we required her attention, she barged in to make sure we gave her our attention. She interrupted our conversation each time she went past our table until she finally picked up on the fact that she had blown it with us in the customer service department. The waitress she was training was far more professional and appropriate but rarely got to attend of us without the "former cheerleader type" pushing her out of the way to take over. read more

It's very nice atmosphere and pretty good service, I would give that part at least 4 stars, however, when I personally go to eat, it's because I love flavorful food. I personally have a huge flavor pallet, so for me the mustard seed is just a bit bland..I like things that make my taste buds dance...i know that when I take my first bite and I mentally or out loud say "mmmmmm", I am happy. .this just didn't do it for me.
