Wowee. The Char dog was pretty stand-out, but the FRIES! The fries were perfectly crispy, super fresh, with just a little bit of salt - not overwhelmingly doused in salt like a lot of places tend to do. I appreciate that. If you just want a good ol' fashion hotdog this place is great. They make a proper Chicago dog, have hot & tasty hand cut fries, and for the price you can't beat it. Nice menu selection! I had to try anything labeled a Tofu Reuben (even though I'm not vegetarian). Gotta say it was interesting - I don't eat a lot of sliced tofu - but the mustard and other condiments made me forget the sandwich had no meat in it. Reasonably priced menu. Will definitely have to try their fries next time, since almost every person in line ordered them. The staff was super friendly. Used to be a 5 star and now all I can say is YOU GUYS GET IT TOGETHER. Came in ordered two Chicago Style Dogs with Sauerkraut on the side and green relish...I got home to find two hotdogs with green relish and nothing else...not even mustard. A few weeks ago, I ordered to dogs I got home and the buns were soaking wet and falling apart. The young kid has obviously not drained the dogs and put all the water in the bun... I went in craving a "Chicago" style hot dog. When I got to the register I said, "Can I please get a "Chicago" dog with a small fry. The guy looked up and said, "What would you like on your hot dog". I was confused for a second and said, "I want a Chicago style hot dog, like in the picture". He said, "would you like sauerkraut on it?".... I sat back, dumbfounded by the question... especially since, they had pictures of a "Chicago style" hot dog everywhere. I've also been to the mustard's last stand in Evanston, Illinois, and was never asked if I wanted sauerkraut". The guy told me that "depending on where you're from in Chicago, some people eat sauerkraut... I thought to myself, "these people must be from the East side of Chicago... you know out there in the middle of Lake Michigan". Now, I was born and raised in Chicago... I have purchased hot dogs on the Northside, the Southside, and the Westside, I have probably had thousands of Chicago style hot dogs in my day. I have never once been offered sauerkraut on my hot dog.... So as far as my review goes, if you are looking for a real "Chicago" hot dog, this may not be it. This is some sort of mutant-version of a Chicago hot dog. I mean yes, they use vienna beef and vienna beef products, but don't represent yourself as something that you are not. If I go into a hotdog place, and order a "Chicago style hot dog" I want an all beef hot dog, mustard, NO KETCHUP, onion, relish (some people enjoy the really green stuff), tomatoes, sports peppers, celery salt, pickle spear, on a steamed poppy seed bun. THAT'S IT!!! NO SAUERKRAUT!!!! Overall Summary: The guy at the register was nice, but the food took a little long. It tasted like vienna beef, which is generally good, but I was super disappointed that they didn't know what a "Chicago" style hot dog was. Your food is prepared on the spot. Be prepared to give your name you will be called to return to the counter to pick up your dog before enjoying either inside their cozy stand or out on the patio watching students and people on DU's campus. Perhaps a tad pricey but a Lucky Dog in NOLA will run you 7 bucks so considering that .....not too shabby. read more

This is THE BEST hot dog stand for vegetarians. The TOFU REUBEN is fantastic and even meat-eaters will be impressed by it. They also have veggie dogs, veggie chili and veggie burgers. The veggie chili dog with cheese is great too, with a side of fresh cut french fries! read more

Looking for a quick bite, we stumbled into Mustard's Last Stand. I'm not from Chicago, so I don't care, but if I were from the second city, I would march right into Mustard's and demand that they remove any affiliation from the great culinary destination of Chicago. Yep, Mustard's last stand sucks. Cooking a dog isn't rocket science, but my chili dog was pretty awful. The dog part was good, but the chilli tasted like tin can. I do not normally eat veggie burgers, but there is just something about a loaded veggie burger from Mustard's (request it with grilled onions), served with malt vinegar laden fries, that keeps me coming back for more. I miss Chicago food nearly every day, so when I came to this place for the first time I decided to try their italian beef piled high with giardinera. You know what? It was pretty effing authentic. The hot dogs are good quality and well prepared but not enough relish and it wasn't Chicago stylet neon green, the corn dogs are good but small in size. My 14 year old was still hungry after eating one. The Italian beef excellent and very tasty but was so small we had to ask if it was a half portion? By far the tiniest Chicago Style Beef sandwich I have ever seen but it came with the full size price. read more

What's all the hub bub? It's small and nothing to write home about. Their dogs are at the bottom of my list. Fries are not blanched first so they are not crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside, but burned on the ends and soaked in fryer oil. Vegetarian Chili Dogs are worth the very small eating environment. Very little room to move around, but the dogs are pretty tasty. I haven't attempted to take my toddler there, so i'm not sure if it's kid friendly. I'm sure it is, there's just not a lot of room for high chairs and all that. read more

I have tried several of Mustard's dogs and brats, and I have liked every one of them...big and juicy, piled with krauts, ketchup, peppers...etc with a side of fries. mmmmm. the lines can be long and the service on the slow side, but with a little patience you will be standing outside (tables full) stuffing your face with a sloppy greasiness you can only dream of in Chicago. Definitely the best Chicago dog in Denver. The burgers and fries are also excellent. I grew up in the DU hood and used to eat there a lot and the one in Boulder also where I lived for a few years, but I now live near Chicago and can get a great dog for a half/third of what Mustard's charges. When I'm back in Colo., which is often, I rarely go there anymore because it's just too damn expensive, When I do though, the food is still great. Service has always been fine through the years too. Parking now is tough in the old hood. Anyway, I would have done a five-star if not for the prices, but it's entirely probable that it's not Mustards fault but rather that Denver is just an expensive place to be anymore. i've driven past this place dozens of times but never went due to parking its a pain. BUT today i decided i'd give it a try, should have rethought that idea... As i walk in the rather grumpy old man doesn't greet me but rather points to the board.. ok.. as I'm standing there feeling his eyes on my back i go and ask what all is ON the chicago dog. because as far as i know theres SET things on it.. he points, any of these.. okay still doesn't tell me jack. so i settle for a burger, note i went here because of the prices of a dog. after the chicago dog question i didn't want to look foolish. 8.00$ later i sit down eat my meal. nothing special, fries didn't WOW me either. i did get a small soda at 1.49 something like that.. i asked for a refill, once again grumpy gills 35 cents. k I'm all for small business n such but its a small refill i already bought that dang drink its mine.. i of course don't have change so go back throat dry and decide this isn't worth it. I might go back if that guy was a little more pleasant but I'm thinking he's always there. so another restaurant off my list. read more

I went to Mustard's with my cousin and we had a good time people watching and eating a meal for around $10 for the both of us. We got the dog with no bun, (she got the toppings) shared a taste of fries and each had a small drink too. Quite the bargain! We've driven by here a million times but never stopped because the parking looks disastrous and the place looks pretty dingy from the outside. Today we were there at an off hour and found a spot (I think it was a spot) so we popped in. A kid's meal for my kid and a plain dog/small fries/med drink for me was almost $16. Bad. I had to repeat my simple order a couple of times, but they did wind up getting it right. The fries were pretty good but some dipping sauce other than ketchup would've gone a long way in my opinion. The hot dogs here are the kind with a really hard casing that you really have to put some jaw into, and that's not super my cup of tea, and my kid was flummoxed by that too. The eating area *felt* filthy to me, although in a vague sort of way. I didn't see any sticky spots or spills or anything but the feel was pretty unhygienic. Staff was mostly friendly. Just a very mixed bag for me, but the price is what will keep us away. read more
