If you like happy hour savings, this is the place! Food is great even for happy hour prices. They have servers that are attentive. Outside patio dining is nice! Lots of parking spaces. In 2016 when I started this review, my brief draft read, "pretty damn cool." After returning countless times, I can confirm that Mutt's is pretty damn cool...when the sun is shining. You see "daytime" a lot in the reviews because that is when Mutt's is best. It tends to get very empty after the sun goes down as people migrate to Blackie's, Beach Ball, Stag, etc. I believe the main reason for this is Mutt's doesn't have their full liquor license and cannot sell hard alcohol. And don't let the doormen intimidate you. They're super cool. The food, especially the fries & breakfast, is delicious. They have an extensive menu, but I usually stick with the bar basics, not because they get the other stuff wrong, they just do the basics so damn well. They have an extensive beer selection that comes in many shapes and sizes, but the schooner my favorite. The service is outstanding, no idea why any other reviews would suggest otherwise. Hell, I am not finished most of the time when she is asking if I'm ready for another. Ideal location with views of the sunset and a great place to people watch. You're ID'ed and enter through the southwest corner of the building. The lower level has several large and small high top tables with various seating that is great for large groups or couples. Bartop seating is also available along the oceanside windows. The upper level is mainly picnic tables and where the actual bar is located. I mostly sit at the lower level and only once recall ever seating at the real bar, which has a glossy wood bar top with no rail that seems shorter than your average bar top. There are around 10 padded round bar stools that sit in front of a square steel footrest. The atmosphere is super fun, very chill, and a great environment to watch the big game. I believe they've hung an HDTV in seemingly every spot possible. Mutt's is simply one of my favorite bars in the area and really anywhere. Their food, beer selection, and service are all tremendous. read more

Mutts is always a good time. For COVID it's nice that they're only allowing people in when there's a table ready for them. Pre Covid it was always packed and tough to get orders in. I ordered the Strawberry Lemonade! I wanted a drink that wasn't too sweet and since there's grapefruit in this one it really balanced out the sweetness. We shared an order of nachos and they were better than I imagined they'd be! Our waitress was attentive for how busy the place was. It's a fun bar to watch games at and feels a bit more laid back than other bars down in Newport. The prices are high, $19 for a schooner. First time visiting this restaurant. The food and drinks were delicious and priced very well. The ambiance was nice and the music was great. We had a long wait but we didn't mind- and the gentleman that was seating tables kept us updated on the wait which we really appreciated. I knocked off two stars because it was extremely disturbing to see Megan not only NOT wearing a mask but no gloves either. Every single other server wore a mask and gloves- she gave off a vibe like she was too good to do either. My mother kindly asked if she would wear her mask while serving us; Megan said she would with no problem. HOWEVER we noticed she only pulled up her mask for us and would remove it while serving every other table. It just didn't make sense and it really rubbed us the wrong way. Sure, we didn't have to eat out. But the least you could do as an employee is abide by regulations just like every one else. read more

We have been to Newport Beach MANY MANY times and have walked by this establishment many times and I have no clue why we have never been inside. We stopped in Newport on our way to Coronado Beach and we decided to walk in and have lunch. We were in love immediately with the ambiance and the music! I mean the array of music playing was so well rounded! The service was a little slow but it's expected in a beach town. Their drinks come in 2 sizes..... 16 oz or 32 oz so a good time is guaranteed!!! Everyone is nice and so laid back. Most all seating has a view; granted it's of the parking lot adjacent to the beach. The people watching is great though! The entire restaurant was open seating so we just had to wait for a table to be cleaned but that was done pretty quickly.
