Came on a Tuesday afternoon for some day drinking with friends. Obviously it was not crowded, maybe 10 people in the entire place including staff. Beer selection is massive, pizza was 2-for-1, and the staff was attentive. I deducted a star because when we were ordering f food, there were about 4 things that they were "out of" and we weren't informed until we already decided that's what we wanted. Mutt's is our go to place whenever we hit up California! WE LOVE IT HERE! I think I've lost count on the number of times we've visited... The Pros: great drinks, amazing view, people watching is top notch, there are some amazingly friendly servers and bartenders and there are so many menu choices- there's something for everyone! Also the prices are very typical- nothing too outrageous. The Cons: you can get the typical rude waitress (like you can anywhere) that ignores you so you end up ordering your own drinks from the bar and walking them back to the table yourself... and... well I guess that's the only con? Be preapred- we visit with our whole family in tow- which includes minors... we only visit during day time hours! Every time I've been by during the evening (especially weekends) the place is PACKED - looks like fun but the typical bar scene with lots of people and a few over intoxicated folks for sure. I came on the 4th of July for my first time EVER, and rest assured my group of 12 was sat and taken great care of by the staff and security S/O Dominic , we felt safe and the server was attentive on service g us the food and drinks we ordered as soon as possible. Me and my wife ordered to-go during lunch time so we could enjoy the beach. For as busy as they were, the food came out quick and was delicious. We each ordered the turkey club which was very filling. We've been waited on by Megan and Lara before - exceptional. They make you feel very comfortable and no rush; very friendly service. We didn't drink this time but we have been several times before and the drinks are great. It's usually pretty packed which means other people enjoy this place too. They closed for some time to "remodel". I have to say that I'm disappointed. I won't go into details, except for the Men's bathroom. The only change was to put in sh*tty faux stone to replace the fun signs. The cramped space didn't improve. The sink that doesn't work is the same. In fact, the men's bathroom didn't change at all except for the aforementioned. I know that when you remodel a home, one of the most important changes should be the bathroom....Anyway, at least they didn't change the good food and drink quality! read more

My brother, his friends, my fiancé, and I came here for dinner and trivia night on a Wednesday! We were lucky because they just released their new menu the Monday before. I ordered the White Pizza Grilled Cheese. I absolutely love a grilled cheese made with a parm cheese crust and it was amazing. It wasn't too rich which was awesome. My fiancé got mix and match fish tacos and he had no complaints! Trivia was so much fun! There are seven rounds of trivia. The announcer uses the speaker system to read off questions so there is no fear of missing anything. There can either be questions, a hand-out round, or a music round. There is also a point where everyone makes a paper airplane and if your team throws in from the stairs and makes it out the door, you get a picture of beer! First place winners get $45, second place get $35, third place gets $25. No using phones or you're kicked out! read more

On TWO separate occasions my friends got roofied here. The drinks tasted like literal acid. We came sober and after 1 drink we were so messed up. We ordered a tequila sprite...come to find out that they DONT HAVE TEQUILA! They gave us some alcohol from a bottle that wasn't even tequila. We asked for a refund and got a different drink but the bartender/manager was completely useless. He acted like we were crazy and gave us serious attitude (maybe 27, lightskin, necklace earrings and white converse). So rude. Never coming here again. This place is a local favorite, and it seemed like they knew everyone who walked in the door. They serve plenty of food and the options are abundant. We went in the morning around 8 o'clock in the morning and it was busy. It was a little bit difficult to find parking as a shared parking with the other neighboring buildings. The ambience is super casual and it's a typical greasy food restaurant. If you're a custom to a bourgeois- type of restaurant, this is not your place. Came here for trivia night with my friends and it was so fun. The hosts are very fun and loud, makes for great entertainment and everyone gets really into the games which is awesome. Trivia nights are usually on thursdays. The drinks come in bigger sizes than most places so make sure to drink accordingly. The waiters and waitresses are on their game, plus they have food here too which isn't too bad for a bar. Overall I've been coming here for years and it never disappoints. Love newport! read more

Based on my previous experiences at Mutts, I always found their service to be mediocre at best. My most recent visit the staff were incredibly rude and dismissive to the point where my group and I felt unwelcomed. Hands down the worst experience I have had at a bar. Not to mention my beer was warm. I reccomend checking out Helmsman instead, they have cold drinks, friendly staff, and overall a better ambiance. read more
