"I posted a review about this deceitful rescue on 10/31/20. After a 5 month long legal battle I was able to recover my dog in May 2021, that I adopted from M & M in Jan 2015, after discovering Marina had taken her back in Dec 2018 and hid her from me for 2 years then rehomed her through her friends rescue in San Diego. As a result of our settlement Baktis will now have to alter how she does business. If she is contacted over a lost dog she homed, she has to contact the parent within 24 hours, according to public parts of the settlement in the case. She also can't re-home the found dog without a neutral party or Animal Services overseeing the matter. Lastly she must give up the #1 Primary- Owner position on the microchip of any dog she adopts out. If she doesn't, contact Ryther Law (jill@rytherlawgroup.com ) because she is breaking the terms of her agreement. ***Thanks for just deleting my first review, Yelp. Next time give me a chance to fix my review rather than just deleting it outright. I have had personal experience with Mutts & Moms. Several years ago when I was considering adopting a dog. (I didn't want to say anything about this in the earlier review, but it's true.) I found their questionnaire to be long and the owner to be judgmental. The email correspondence I had with her was terse and downright unfriendly. Then it turned out the apartment I moved into didn't allow pets; so I wasn't able to go through with the process. I guess that was a good thing. But my experience up to that point was not the best. So that is what I'm basing this one-star review on. That and the whole Ellen Degeneres/Iggy situation, which admittedly is all based on secondhand information.

This was our first time here as previously, we rescued our Aussie from the Love Joy Foundation in Inglewood. Initial impressions were that the staff took immense pride in their job and that the animals were very well cared for. The neat and organized board of visuals of the the up-for-adoption pets (dogs / cats / critters) was a unique touch I had never seen at another shelter. As the person in the relationship who has never owned a cat, I felt as though I was at a huge disadvantage in both advocating on behalf of our Aussie but also facilitating a compatible future partner in crime. Given that we were understandably unable to facilitate a meet and greet with both pets, I am very appreiciative of Christine, who helped us as she was both incredibly kind and patient with me, taking the time to provide thoughtful answers to all the questions and concerns I had. it was very reassuring being able to lean into Christine.

Ironically one of the most inhumane experiences we have ever had. When someone carries in a completely limp and unresponsive dog, desperately asking for help, it is WAY the wrong response to act annoyed and try to get rid of them without any assistance. My Labrador just collapsed, lost all bodily autonomy, soiled herself and had gone completely white. I ran down the street carrying her to the nearest place that I thought could help, which was the Pasadena Humane Society. The 2 young ladies at the Shelter Shop directed me to the Animal Resource Center. I'm sweating bullets and my body is giving out from carrying my poor limp dog a considerable distance, when I finally arrive at the Animal Resource Center. I ask the girl at the entrance for help and she just tells me that they don't treat pets and I need to take my dog somewhere else. I frantically ask where and she gets visibly annoyed at me when she can't provide more information. Eventually a young man comes out and explains that I would need to surrender my dog in order to have them treat her, at which point she becomes the Humane Society's property and I have no claim or access to her condition or whereabouts. He tells me that Access is the nearest emergency pet hospital that can treat her. At that point a woman (possibly a vet) steps in and directs us to VCA on Arroyo Parkway because it seems like my dog may not survive the trip to Access. She was empathetic and wished us luck as we headed off. While I am thankful for those who eventually stepped in and offered helpful advice, I am still in shock at the callous and annoyed initial response I got from the girl at the Animal Resource Center entrance, in that desperate moment as I held my lifeless baby in my arms. I don't care how bad your day was or how much you don't care about your job, you do not get annoyed with someone who is desperately clutching their lifeless baby's body right in front of you. I get it, Pasadena Humane is a non-profit and not a free veterinary hospital. I also understand that many of the staff are not paid enough to care or they may very well be volunteers. But please do a better job of training your people, especially if they are the first point of contact with the public. Give them a list of alternative facilities or instruct them to reach out to someone who can and wants to help, it could mean the difference between life and death.

Rescuing animals is not for the faint of heart, and comes with a lot of dirt, heartache and possibility of illness. Fortunately, the people who run the group are willing to overlook all the obstacles and still help the poor creatures who desperately need them. I have helped them photograph dogs, worked adoption events, fostered dogs and am now fostering cats, and know that the good this organization does far outweighs any negatives. I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone who wants to volunteer, but this type of work requires a lot of strength and determination to help those who need it most. The joy of helping saving a life is the best feeling in the world.

I was "recruited" into the group after I witnessed a weekend glamour shot day while I was walking dogs at the Baldwin Park Shelter. Volunteering with UHA fulfills a part of me that had been unfulfilled since I had my first pet fish. I am surrounded by people who love animals as much as me, who don't mind having extended discussions concerning potty training, dog behavior, cuteness levels, and types of poop. I feel important, I feel accomplished, I feel like I have people to turn to if I'm having trouble. UHA's main concern is the individual, whether it's the animal or the person. It isn't about numbers, it isn't about politics. It's about finding the best home for one animal, the best fit for the owner. I couldn't imagine a more amazing, selfless, and helpful set of people and animal rescuers. They've made a difference in countless animals' lives, countless owners' lives, and definitely, in my own life. If you're looking to adopt a new fur baby, or just need some help or information, UHA is your rescue!
