Where do I begin. From the outside theme to the indoor decor everything was A plus! No complaints, until my order came out. Huevos Devorciado Con Bisteck, from the picture shown on the menu the meat looked a lot bigger than the one that was served to me. It was about the size of two baseball cards put together. I quickly asked the waitress if I can please have another piece. She then came back with an even smaller piece to add on to my plate. The meat was tough and over cooked, the beans tasted like something you would get from canned beans. Myself, my wife and our fried were very displeased by our meals. We vowed to never come back. I love tacos. Have them all the time. Have plenty of places I go to that give me very satisfying taco experiences. However, now that I have had tacos at Mexicanos 30-30, I don't know how I will ever truly enjoy a taco from someplace else again. They make their own soft corn tortillas that wrap their steak in the sweetest, freshest tortilla that will ever set foot on your tongue. I had driven by this place many times. I decided to stop and eat in. I ordered a simple breakfast and it never was brought to the table. After about 45 minutes I went in to check and all the waitress that helped me could do was apologize and say, "oh, I thought they brought you your food". I don't know how she couldn't have noticed my food was never brought out. She helped the guy sitting in front of me and the couple sitting behind me. I went to see what the fuss was all about& it has become One of my favorite places when i visit California. They serve Soup all week ( which is great ) The dishes are yummy. I ordered albondigas soup, what a mistake. It arrived scolding hot. Im certain it was previously frozen from two weeks ago then nuked today. The vegetables were soggy and had the consistency of wet noodles. The meatballs were mushy. Store bought and frozen for sure, no flavor with the texture of fish balls. The asada tacos were bad. The tortillas had some black sauce. The food is repulsive. How do they have 4.5 stars. I tried to eat it but could not. I hope i dont get food poisoning from the small portion i did eat. People are not kidding when they say that the 30-30 salsa is AMAZING. No wonder they are able to sell a bottle of this salsa for 5 bucks. You can practically douse this sauce on anything and make it taste delicious. If you are getting take out, make sure you have a couple of sauce containers of this creamy cilantro goodness prior to leaving because it will enhance the crap out of your meal. I came here during lunch one weekday afternoon for a carne asada wet burrito. Wet burritos are my jam! I waited around 10-15 minutes for my take out. I watched sadly as dine in customers crunched happily on their free chips and salsa. My burrito was still hot when I got home. Quality of the ingredients was pretty decent but overall a bit on the salty side. 30-30 salsa on top of the burrito it 100% better. The restaurant is quite small and probably would only seat around 20 people total. They do have two tables on the patio outside but this area is not the best and this may not be a good idea to sit outside. Downside is that there is only street parking available. I posted a question to the forum too. We had an event. Paid for food. Catering showed up and when it was all done- the workers took with them all the food that was left. Is this standard procedure? We have never been through this before and find it odd. Afterall, the food was paid for! My first impression was good. We were greeted with a warm friendly smile, felt very welcomed. The chips and salsa as well as the drinks were very good. Unfortunately, 45 minutes later we had yet to receive our food. I then had to ask for our food to go and was told that the food was ready and asked if I didn't want to just eat real quick? Eating quickly was the plan, waiting 45 minutes for food was not. The waiter apologized for the wait and said they never take this long. For a small dining room with maybe 6 to 7 tables it seemed hard to believe. Ultimately I was only charged for the food. The drinks were on the house and we were given drinks to go. Maybe I came in at a bad time? But, service seemed a bit overwhelmed with the diners who were already seated. The servers couldn't get it together. The food: Their chips and three salsas are good. I love their red salsa and my mother liked the green one. She had their carne asada Nachos (guacamole came with it but we didn't ask for it and thought it was part of the dish), I guess they're okay, no crema or sour cream. I had their Plato Mexicano which was a choice of three meats with rice and beans and tortillas. The menu should reflect what options come with the order, you can choose from four meats: carne asada, carne desebrada (shredded beef), chicharron and pork. The carne asada didn't come in a steak form, it was chopped up into little balls felt dry. I loved the carne desebrada, it was served with red chilli sauce with onions and it was delicious. I chose chicharron as my third choice but I didn't eat and I gave it to my mother to eat. The beans and rice were okay so was the small lettuce. The service: I was really disappointed in their service, I'm not sure if it was or wasn't Josephine. But, the server didn't ask me what type of tortillas I wanted with my meal. She also added guacamole to my mother's order of Carne Asada Nachos,which she did not ask for. We're not aware of that was an option. I didn't get asked for refills for my beverages, another young man helped out with that. I asked for more chips and I didn't get that until after twenty minutes of waiting by which time I declined because I was sure my order was coming. I hope if I go again I'll get someone else. The place: really nice, cozy, love their decor many Mexican actors and actresses on the wall. Of course, the love for the Commander Pancho Villa clearly on display. In East LA, you can't throw a burrito without hitting a Mexican restaurant. Having worked in this area for over 10 years now, I've gotten a chance to discover MANY local gems and "no bueno" spots! So what makes Mexicanos 30-30 special? Their 30-30 green salsa! It's like a guacamole, crema, and green salsa blended together into a creamy delight. It's not spicy but it certainly has a kick. They have the typical dishes you would find at Mexican restaurants (ie. Birria, Huevos Rancheros, Chilaquiles, etc.) but it tastes better and its fresher. It's also very reasonably priced (read: cheap) and good portions (read: you'll overeat). I highly recommend the Chilaquiles with Asada or the Ranchera. I also like that it's family owned and run so you get that homely feeling and the service is always warm and friendly. Only bad thing about this place is street parking only and that could be tough to find during lunch time. BTW, they sell that 30-30 salsa in a bottle for $5. We ate here several times while visiting a family member at USC hospital. It is one of the most delicious Mexican food spots I've ever encountered, and I've been to a lot!! Everything was so tasty, from the breakfast plate to the menudo. And the three salsas with chips you get when you sit, soo good!! I live in Nevada, but I can't wait to come back to 30/30 to try more dishes! The staff is awesome and they even accommodated our dog with a bowl of water while we were sitting out on the patio.
