When I say I want to eat mexican food and feel like Ego from Ratatouille being transported back to my childhood with the first bite, this is what I'm talking about!!!! I decided to randomly park in Plaza del Mariachi for some coffee when I saw Yeya's across the street and saw a lady with the abuelita apron making tortillas. I was sold. The moment I walked in I knew the food was going to be bomb. I grew up in a restaurant and I just know when someone loves food, and the reward that it is to feed delicious, home made food to people that genuinely love it. The family who runs this restaurant should be very proud of their food, and I'm not sure if the kid's mom making the food was Yeya herself, but if she was, then I want to give her extra flowers. She treated me like family, and made me the best fucking breakfast I've had in a long time. Huevos rancheros with salsa de molcajete, rice, beans, and home made tortillas. It was so good that I asked for some of the pork ribs they were making because I knew I'd regret it later if I didn't. This is not a fancy place or a big family restaurant. This is one of those hole in the wall spots that Anthony Burdain would've loved, and if I am ever back in the area, I will stop by again for Yeya and her magical kitchen witchcraft. Came here based on the reviews and prices. I wanted some food that tasted homemade and this place is it. I got the chilaquiles and they were pretty good! The carne asada was nicely prepared and the portion size is clearly pretty big. It filled the entire plate and I couldn't finish it all on my own. Also two eggs which is nice in this economy and egg shortages. This was $17 but I believe it can be as low as $12 without a meat protein. It's a cute little cozy place with limited seating. They take tap pay so that's great if you don't have cash or physical card. Overall I enjoyed this place. The people were nice and friendly it just felt like the people working there were family and it made the place feel nice and comfortable. I will definitely go back to try some other things. Let's start with the food. I had a nopal quesadilla and it was delicious! The freshly made (in front of my eyes!) pico de gallo was outstanding! The Mexican coke just rounded the meal! Not sure why Yelp indicates that there are vegan options, but I spoke to the employees who were very kind and concerned about dietary restrictions. I really appreciate their honesty. Needed sopa de fideo (popular Mexican noodle soup) for my mom who is hating hospital food. Their services was very attentive, friendly and accommodating. Hard to find the level of service and care they provided. They even personalized the soup with added cooked veggies of my choice (mom's choice really). The place is set up to an old fashioned diner and if I lived in the area I could see myself going here often enough that they would know my name. The fideo was very good, had a nice thickness that sometimes is missing when people make this soup. The added veggies were a bonus. Not too many places where you can find chayote. I will need to return and try other plates to give a more detailed review and I usually take a trip to the restroom to make sure they are also keeping up with their cleaning duties. Until next time! Went there last year when I visited LA. I went there with my husband because I was craving some soups that day. Yeya's pop up on the search that around the airbnb that we rent. So we want to give it a try. I ordered the Caldo de res and my husband ordered Mole con pollo. The soup was really good, it has good amount of beef and vegetables and the flavor is exactly what I'm craving for. they served it with the rice and tortilla on the side. Staff was extremely friendly; they made you feel like you're at your tias house. I had the agua fresca of the day which was fresa-strawberry soooooooooooo fresh and good! You could tell it was made that morning, the bits and slices of strawberry were still nice and firm. Definitely coming back to try more dishes, would recommend 110%. Came here with my toddler son for the first time and they were very accommodating and friendly. We came for breakfast and their chilaquiles were delicious. This great little gem is hidden across the street from the Mariachi Plaza. If you want that home cooked meal, but are too lazy or hungover on a Sunday, by all means make the trip. All offerings are made from scratch, including the masa for the ropes which are molded and cooked on the spot - these are my absolute favorite. I like that you get a quarter of an avocado with it too. Unfortunately as other reviewers have noted it's not a very nice place inside. Definitely a hit or miss kind of place. My first time eating here and it was a miss. Overpriced for mediocre food. Had an egg and bean burrito for breakfast and the cashier looked at the owner to confirm it was $4 before she charged me and the owner answered no $8 and $4 for an orange juice. For that price I was expecting a delicious burrito. Instead I was served a burrito that needed salt. The only thing that kept me from giving this place 5 stars was the dining room size, the lack of fountain drinks (they have can and bottled soda) and the rice. The rice was lacking a bit of flavor. My wife and I ordered enchiladas and a quesadilla. We saw the cook hand make the tortillas, throw some meat on the grill and put everything together. There is no substitute for that kind of quality!
