It was a weekday and I didn't bring a lunch to work, so I went out with a couple coworkers. I recently saw Lupita's Restaurant on Yelp and found it to be close to the office. So we went to try it. The service was nice, but my order was wrong. To start I ordered the Taco Trio, which give you a bit to try. I also ordered a Tacos de Camaron on the side. I ended up getting the Taco Pescado by mistake. I didn't bother to correct my order as I had already bitten into it, and it was pretty good. I enjoyed the white sauce as it had a bit of that yogurt taste my dad use to make. I would definitely order the Asada and Pastor again, but the Pollo wasn't as flavorful. The restaurant was clean and not a lot of people, so it was quiet. It made for a comfortable experience dining and being able to enjoy our conversations. Based on the feedback from my coworkers, I think we will be back. I know I'd like to try some of their other dishes. Note that it was meter parking, in front, and I couldn't pay for more than 45 minutes, so that was the only thing that made it feel rushed. Ridiculously fantastic food. The cocido is fantastic... the campechana is fabulous... the ceviche is heavenly. Everything is fresh and tasty. The chips are freshly fried. Lupita's is definitely a small family operation with the young son helping to take orders. It is a local spot in the neighborhood located diagonally across from LAPD's Hollenbeck Division. Just the facts, ma'am, just the facts. I ordered a large Caldo de Pollo and a three item combination with a chile relleno, chicken taco and chicken mole enchilada. All had great flavors. The chicken in my enchilada and taco, whicwas fried and extremely dry and hard. For over $30, I would try another spot. read more

Not sure what the hype is all about, this place leaves much to be desired. needless to say first time coming here last time, there is no indoor seating just outdoor seating in the small patio area next to a dumpster so it smells kind of funky outside and then the food quality is not that great. I ordered Asada burrito, chili cheese fries, asada sope, chicken taco...it was lacking flavor, lacking protein. It was a warm rainy Sunday, awaiting this crazy hurricane to pass through Southern California. A few of my friends met and found this great little place with Authentic Mexican food. The waitress was super helpful a d friendly, it seems like this is a family owned place. We had chorizo con huevo And machaca. I preferred the chorizo and it was definitely home style cooking. The salsa that came with the chips was soo good. Just the right amount of picosita!! The coffee tasted a bit like café de olla And The waitress said it wasn't. Especially if your family is from Zacatecas or Jalisco, you will find the nuanced twists in the enchiladas, nopales n salsas. Just like your family probably made at home. Visited during the week and we had the carne asada torta, chicken tacos and the coctel de Camaron. They have the mexican coca cola bottles that are always a good choice. Service was good and we didnt wait too long for the food to come out. It is a small place and we walked here so I don't know what parking would be like. The coctel was really good and I enjoyed my torta. All very filling. The one thing that was bothersome was the fly that kept buzzing around. Not fun. Other than that food was pretty good. read more

Lupita's restaurant is your typical and run of the mill hole in the wall Mexican restaurant. I was in the eastish (is that a word?) area of LA on a conference. I was excited about the week because I know the area is filled with great little ma & pa food joints. My friend and I saw this place on our way to our meeting and with a toss of a coin we decided that this would be our lunch stop. From the outside Lupita's is one of those places that, unless you know the area, would not bother entering. It's very plain and unassuming exterior is not welcoming in any way. When you walk in you immediately see that interior decor is not their forte either. The inside is just as colorful as it is on the inside, and that's not necessarily a good thing. The miss-matched decor is aesthetically confusing and unappealing. On one wall there is a mirror in the shape of two dolphins, the opposite wall had a cottage painting along side a pair of coffee paintings. The rear wall houses the counter and above the door to the kitchen is a painting of the Virgen De Guadalupe with a statue of a crucified Jesus Christ. Next to that door is a coke machine, yeah have I confused you enough??? After perusing the menu I opted to try their pork pozole and my friend selected a carne asada wet burrito. The meat in the pozole had a bit too much "stuff" (stuff=tendons, fat, ligaments and stuff) and the gelatinous consistency was a major turn off. I prefer clean meat, which you get at Tamales Liliana's. The broth/soup of the pozole was nicely flavored but it just didn't have enough pizzazz to wow me. Simply said the food was just okay and in an area inundated with Mexican restaurants I wanted something extraordinary, which clearly this wasn't. My friend wasn't thrilled with her burrito either. She felt it was drowning in sauce that tasted of "canned " ingredients and just made the burrito a soggy mess. I also though the prices were a bit on the higher side given the geographical location and in comparison to similar restaurants. The service, well the lady tending to us wasn't particularly "warm and friendly" but she got the job done. I think there are hoards of other place exponentially better, in other words I'd go elsewhere Lupita's is just not up to par. read more

Ok. The ambiance is lacking, but it's f you want the real deal from really nice people, this is your place! I judge alll Mexican can food places by their Chili Verde or Tacos Al Pastor. I haven't had the tacos yet, but the Chili Verde is Gold standard five star here. As I was ordering I was asked if I wanted my coke in the bottle or can, I.e., real or gringo and then asked if I wanted a cup of ice with it. Viva Mexico BABY! The chicken soup was very tasty, the beans... like I remember from my childhood. Rice, perfect. Did I mention the Chili Verde? It's got a kick and the pork is cooked to perfection. This place was recommended to me by two folks who speak zero English and I was the only Whiteboy in here. Always a good sign. Lupita's is a hidden gem on First just east of Chicago. We have been coming to Lupitas for a couple years now. It is our traditional Mexican food, weekend, quick-bite-to-eat default. The restaurant is a pretty small space, kinda a whole in the wall type, which we tend to like. Their menu is fairly ample, focusing on typical Mexican and American food, and the quality is pretty consistent. We love their Chicken Broth "consome" which comes as a starter for many of their dishes. We always look forward to their salsa which is typically very good and very hot, depending on the day. Our favorite dishes are ceviche, fish taco, chicken tostadas, chicken soup, huevos rancheros, burrito, and tacos de asada. The waitress are very nice and fairly attentive, unless they are extremely busy. The crowd are mostly locals. This family restaurant is really a no-nonsense spot, with fairly large portions, and cooking that closely emulates home-cooking. read more

Just moved to the area and I'm really happy I found this little gem. So far I only ordered their 2 sope plate plate. It's reasonably priced and very filling. I LOVE Lupita's in Boyle Heights !! It surpasses yet every single "MEXICAN" restaurant that I have been to !! The service here is great and the owners are always pleasant . This is the best hole in the wall Mexican restaurant I ever been too. It was a packed house on Sunday. I ordered a carne asada burrito with cheese. Oh! my goodness. It was so tender and they didn't hold back on the meat because I didn't have beans and rice. It still was a full burrito. The lady server was very nice and patiented. They give you chips and red and green salsa. I enjoyed a little green salsa on the burrito and the red salsa for chips. I ordered burrito to go and walked across street to my niece house, but best to believe when I left I went back and ordered another burrito and she remembered how I liked my burrito. My mom loves this place and constantly comes here for the caldo de res (beef broth/soup)because it's not greasy like other places. I personally don't like it here because of the cleanliness, quality of food; service is great. Chicken taquitos which had the chicken filling inside completely drenched in oil and charred. It's supposed to be a soft filling not fried like the outside tortilla shell. I think I got a stomachache from the chicken because it looked grey (very few parts visible where it wasn't all charred). Mi mama le encanta este restaurante y biene a comer el caldo de res. El caldo no tiene mucha grasa como en otro lugares. Personalmente no me gusta aqui por la calidad de la comida y la limpieza; buen servicio. Flautas de pollo completamente envuelto en grasa. El interior de la flauta que contiene el pollo estuvo todo frito en ves de ser suave de adentro y tostado de afuera.
