They weren't able to "recreate" the issue I was having but kept my car for a few days - after asking if I would be able to - to be sure. It was an engine malfunction light so I was grateful they wanted to go the extra step to make sure I didn't have potentially expensive damage done by driving it! I replaced my inner and outer tie rods recently and needed an alignment, so I called this shop and they took the car in then proceeded to tell me that my passenger inner tie rod fell out which makes no sense as I drove the car nearly 30 miles to this shop and had no hiccups with anything "falling out". At this point they tried charging me nearly $400 to reinstall my tie rods "their way" and wanted to keep my car for an extra day which at the time was unacceptable so I fixed it myself in the parking lot and limped it to Cali Custom alignments and had it aligned properly with no issues. This facility also made my alignment 10 times worse after they rolled it back into the parking lot making me have to do further repair of my own. The reason I would go to my auto surgeon over the dealership is the fact it's a small shop.....and they are close to the same price. I called a few months ago and got a quote for 85 dollars for an oil change. That's not bad considering I can do it by myself for 40. Then I asked how much was a tire rotation because the dealership and American tire company will rotate for free. I wash shocked when they said it was free. The problem is when I called this time they said it was 20 dollars and they tried to up sale me by inspecting my fluids and checking my brakes by some special mechanic for 140 dollars. That's crazy...not because of the 140 dollars but because they think a special mechanic is a good reason for the money. Any mechanic can see if the pads are low and the fluids are low. The dealership checks these things for free. They get great reviews so maybe I'm missing something but I'll stick with the dealer because it's cheaper. I recently had an oil change done with inspection and was advised to replace the eng valves. When I asked for clarification I was provided with a detailed description that as a lay person without mechanical knowledge I could understand. They also recently fit me in last minute for an issue that concerned me which turned out to be nothing....and didn't charge me for inspecting the car. Chris, at My Auto Surgeon, responded quickly to my Yelp request for diagnostic service after warning lights on my 2105 Subaru Forester started to come on. The lights included Check Engine, Hill Start, and Emission sensors. I brought the vehicle to the shop and Chris read the codes on his device connected to under the dashboard. He was well versed in the issues, provided an interpretation of the codes and provided good advice for next steps. My clutch was starting to slip on my 2020 civic si coupe, so I knew it was a matter of time before it had to be replaced. I called Roseville Honda and the dealership quoted me a ridiculous $4100 to replace it. I had track weekend planned for both Saturday and Sunday ($400), including hotel reservations (another $400), and, as I was putting on my last lug-nut of my wider wheels and tires, I stripped the stud... :O I felt horrible! I called My Auto Surgeon and talked with Dan, and he told me that if it is the light bulb they will not change me. The next day I brought my car in, and they checked the lights, and sure the light bulb was burned out, they replaced the light bulb with No Extra Change. This is for the Rocklin location! Very helpful/informative, welcoming, and a family-like atmosphere. The shop had a coffee station, lounge seating area, and a table seating area. Decent wifi for your internet needs and the area can provide a nice space to study/work while you wait for your vehicle (has 2 outlets for your chargers). I came there to install rotors and brakes and they've done the job splendidly and quickly. They are able to install customer-purchased parts at a higher price point and also provide the option to order from their own shop to slightly lower your cost. I chatted with Justin the owner about the AC problem with my daughters car. He was honest, straight forward about my options and pricing. I settled on draining and refilling 1lb of Freon as it was no longer cooling. I booked the appointment with Seth, who got me in quickly within 3 days. He also informed me about discount coupons they accept (AAA, etc). He was very courteous and assured me that they could address the issue and confirmed my car should not need more than one pound of Freon. If more is needed they only charge you for what is used in 1/10 increments. Today I took in the car and Casey booked me in. She too was very polite. They had my car fixed up in 30 minutes, and there price matched the original quote. I am very happy after moving up from the Bay Area to find an honest auto mechanic. I fixed my car here both times. The first time I had broken breaking pads on my rear tires to the point that my caliper and my rotating cuff on my left rear side were rubbing against each other and we're on the verge of failing. I called the auto shop and they were able to see me right away that morning. They also quoted me fairly on the price and explained to me everything that was wrong with it allowing me to have the option of either going somewhere else or have them perform it. I see that as an excellent performance of customer service and because of that I chose to have it fixed there. It was fine the very next day. The second time, my AC unit was broken in the middle of summer and I needed it to be fixed asap. I called them again and I was able to see them right away the next morning. They quoted me fairly and I was able to get it fixed that day as well! read more

Decided to get a second opinion after the dealer told me my 9 month old battery failed the load test. They wanted $545 to replace it. Chris quoted $314 to replace if it didn't pass. It did, the dealer used the wrong Amp rating. I was on my way in 25 minutes, no charge. Now that the vehicle is out of warranty, I'll be switching mechanics. read more

I looked online and there are much cheaper options to avoid swapping the expensive stock parts they would have.
