Pretty knowledgable mechanics, very honest and straight forward. A few pointers: It took a week to get a diagnose on my vehicle. Didn't like being yelled at by the owner while I had to tow my car back home. Don't "Jesuschrist" a customer because he did not understand what you said. A verbal conversation over the phone is not a diagnose, if you'll charge $75 for it, a piece of paper with the issue of the car or the readings of the codes is not too much to ask. If you'll be condescending and or yell at a customer willing to make a payment, ain't no way he is going to give you his card information over the phone. Come on man. read more

I want to take a moment and share my experience with My Car Doctor. My wife had a check engine light on in her 2006 Pontiac G6. The check engine light had started showing up after a long trip to see her sister in Ohio. On top of the check engine light her factory installed remote start wouldn't work anymore. :( My wife works a 9-5 job so getting her car in to a mechanic is not always easy. I have to work with her to drop it off, and then coordinate to pick it up. So you take something that is a hassle already and make it an even bigger hassle. My schedule has been crazy the last several months so taking my wife's car to the mechanic was not something I was looking forward to at all. Then I remembered a conversation I had with Chris Reed (AKA Captain Selfie) a local business promoter and friend. He told me of this awesome service called My Car Doc run by his friend John, where they would actually come and pick up your car, fix it, then drop it back off to you. That sounded really great and was just what I needed. My next question was, "Is John a good and honest mechanic?" Chris gave me this big laugh and told me story after story of people who used My Car Doc and were happy. He also told me stories of John being honest with people about repairs to the point that he was actually offering them less expensive solutions than having him do the work! Now that's impressive! When you are honest and operate with that kind of integrity, and your clients brag about it, that saying something! So I did some research and this is what I found out... My Car Doc is Locally Owned, a Super Service Angie's list winner with multiple awards, an Indy's A list award winner, and INSM (Indiana Social Media) awards nominated for the most ethical award (https://www.mycardoc.com/awards/). They offer mobile services such as on site oil changes and quick scan diagnostics, battery changes and battery checks. At their shop they do everything all the way up to full engine swaps. They only thing they don't do is body work on cars. So my wife and I decided to give My Car Doc a try. I called to make the appointment and Waverly at the office was kind and friendly and helped me set the appointment, and she also coordinated with my wife for the time and location for the car pick up. The appointment was today, and my wife sent me an email this afternoon raving about the work done and the price. She was impressed with the courtesy shown by John and his team. We now have an effective and affordable option to use when we need a car repair. My sincerest thanks to John, Waverly, and the My Car Doc team. We will be back! I was very apprehensive about taking my car to a local mechanic as I have always used dealerships in the past. My wife recommended My Car Doc because she had taken her vehicles to John to work on in the past. I can clearly say that this was the best choice I have made in a long time. John was very detailed from start to finish, from the comprehensive inspection that provided photo evidence of every major component inspected. John and his team also provided detailed information on each component reported on provided a recommendation on when it needed to be repaired. After receiving my estimate, I called John and he took the time to answer my questions, he was very polite and thorough. The level of service that John and his team provided was way above my expectations. One additional note, if I had been taking my vehicle to John for oil changes I am sure he would have caught my valve gasket leak. I took my car religiously to Jiffy Lube and was spending $100+ for synthetic oil changes and there was never a mention of an oil leak. You do not pay for service from a place like that, you pay for convenience. Rest assured, John will be getting my business for oil changes going forward because I now know how detailed John and his team are when it comes to car care. All I can say is... the people here must work with so much love!!!! My tire went flat and somehow my car made it to this place's parking lot. The window said they closed at 1 on Saturdays so I didn't even try to go in. However, I saw someone parked in a car right by the entrance so I decided to try and go in to see if there was anyone that could help me... turns out... they had stayed late for whatever reason and immediately the lady sitting inside went to the man in the car... this was John who immediately offered to help me!!!! Did not charge me a cent and did everything with so much joy!!!!! I am a little itty bitty thing incapable of changing her tire lol so I was beyond grateful for their help!!! RELATIONSHIPS MAKE ALL THE DIFFERENCE! Having a mechanic that understands the average guys struggle means all the difference. When your mechanic knows you are just like him and need someone you can trust. When the shop understands that level of responsibility and trust as well as respects the effort it takes to build and maintain that trust then you have found a home. The truth is none of us are at our best when our cars break down. We are frustrated even mad. To say the least we are inconvenienced and need speedy resolution at a cost we can afford. Most of us don't have a lot of money to burn. When our cars breakdown we are sometimes left on the short end both financially, emotionally and time wise. I have had the fortune to have My Car Doc take care of both my cars which are over 10 years old. Over the last 7 years I've had many repairs done by My Car Doc. What I have found is service to be fair and reasonable. I bet there might be cheaper shops in town but for me I need someone on my side. Someone I know and can trust. The thing is this is a relationship. Yes I am the customer but he is a business owner. He has employees to pay and a family to feed. I know most of us never think of things like that when they tell you how much it's going to cost. The truth is I have had things not go right with My Car Doc but when I respectfully and thoughtfully explained what happened I was grateful that they looked back into the issue and stood behind our relationship and did what it took to make it right. I think the difference is I treat them like family and not like a vendor. It seems to me when we create relationships with those who take care of us we get the very best from them. I've found this holds true with wait staff and bartenders, my dentist and doctor and more. Give it a try. Just another dishonest repair joint. First off, these folks are very expensive. Far more than your local garage. They'll pile on diagnostic charges and additional testing charges beyond the norm and then charge top dollar for labor. In addition, they'll charge you for extras not on their initial estimate, and with me, they actually made another mistake where labor was invoiced twice. Plan to spend hundreds more than your estimate. My advice, find a reputable garage and don't use MY Car Doc unless you've got to. read more

I would definitely recommend My Car Doc to those in the Indianapolis area! They have helped me with a number of car problems (each time something new and unrelated to the last issue). After observing my car, they sent me a list detailing the function and status of each part. As someone who doesn't know much about cars, I found this very beneficial. I also never felt pressured to spend more money or have more done to my car than I wanted to, something that has happened at other shops in the past. This company deserves to be blasted! NEVER GO BY HOW MANY STARS A COMPANY HAS! I know in the rhelm of everything this one review will not change anything, however maybe one customer will decide not to go and get screwed like I did! I did just look through some of the reviews and sadly another person went through the same thing I did! I went in initially because my car died in the middle of the road and I wanted to make sure my new radiator was connected correctly for my boyfriend whom is not a mechanic was trying to help save us some money (very sweet) - the owner on the phone seemed very nice at first - he is so fake it's crazy and he informed me to check to see what was wrong would be $89 and if the radiator just had a couple screws loose he wouldn't even charge me. He told me he would NOT do anything until sending me an email of what needed to be done that day and what needed to be done in the near future. I got NO EMAIL - I got no phone call. so I call them - he tells me it will be $89 plus this much BECAUSE HE ADDED SOMETHING WITHOUT MY PERMISSION AND I HAD THIS ITEM IN MY CAR - I DID NOT NEED IT FROM THEM and I had just put this in my car earlier that morning. He told me he found nothing so he would have to charge another $200 to figure out whats wrong! (So $300 dollars just to figure out what it is?) So, I get there and kindly BUT firmly I told the receptionist how I felt and that I should only have to pay the $89 and the owner comes in SCREAMS AT ME - TAKE OFF THE EXTRA CHARGE - HER BOYFRIEND DID A HORRIBLE JOB ON THE RADIATOR AND GET HER AND HER CAR TOWED OFF MY LOT NOW! I was so scared of him - I left with my head held high said ok - got in my dads car and cried for an hour! I should have said you're horrible too considering I just spent $100 dollars and you couldn't find the problem. READY FOR THE KICKER? I went to another mechanic - they charged me ONLY $30 dollars to look at it - the radiator was fine - just needed the thermometer thing and guys - I just needed a new battery...THE CAR DOC is money hungry and horrible to women! read more

This place was garbage! I had took take my car into these people and they ripped me off for over a 1000. 3 times in a month and they couldnt get the job done. Took it to a real mechanic and had my issue diagnosed and fixed within 24 hours. Don't ever go to this place. I don't get how they are even still I'm business. it is just not me, like this place needs to be reported to the news or something. My daughter goes to Butler and her cars overheating light came on in her car. She had pulled over to the side of the road and called me, after a quick yelp search I found My Car Doc was nearby. She drove there and was immediately helped by John. It turned out John needed to do additional testing to diagnose the issue so he kept he car there. It was diagnosed and fixed by Tuesday. John was great helping out and my daughter said he was extremely friendly. Did a car wash and left a valentine in the car. I've had a chance to visit MyCarDoc's new Allisonville Road location and it's hard to believe the best is now even better! I was admittedly not crazy about the NE Side location, but that's just because I'm a wussy SW Carmel-ite. This actually puts him in a sweet-spot between B2B auto parts wholesalers so he can get the parts you need as quick if not quicker than dealerships farther North or East. For someone who was by himself for so long, John has recruited a talented repair and customer service staff quickly. The location has Netflix, candy and congenial conversation available while you wait! It's cool to observe, yet not be in the way of, a beehive of activity in a premier auto-service company. John is a great guy... It is sad it took me so long to write this review, back on 10//24 my wife's car broke down in Indianapolis. He came out on a SUNDAY to the hotel parking lot to figure out what needed to be done! Way above and beyond. There was too much to be done without it in his shop so on Monday he got it all fixed and running so she could come home. Was a real relief to have such a good guy looking out for us. His price for fixing the car was very reasonable, new water pump, belts, and a few other things. All good as new and above all my wife got home safely! Thanks for everything! Stay away from this place. I went here for an oil change. They identified an oil leak that I new about. It was a small leak. They stated that they would have to remove the engine. I took the car to the dealership where they replaced some gasgets for half of what My car Doc was charging. The dealership did not have to remove the engine, hmmmmm. Oh by the way, it was a $500.00 difference between My Car Doc and the dealership. read more

Dropped car off for service on 06/07/2016 and I am still waiting for it to be completed. requests for date of completion have been responded to with by Thursday from John Cannon (owner). that response has been given for the past 3 months. shop owner claims to be ase certified . calls placed are not returned and when they are returned the owner is threatening and rude stating that we have no business to keep asking when the job will be done. John lies about leadtimes, expects a down payment, and does not follow up. I was led to believe my repairs would only take one day. Come to find out it was five days. I wish you would've just told me upfront or would have at least called to keep me in the loop. Let me just say how awesome this team was. I had been on the road for about 10 hours driving from North Carolina from vacation back to Chicago when my engine light started blinking at me and it was struggling to get into gear. I took the next exit to the closest shop and My Car Doc was the highest rated on the list. I called over and told him I was on my way home and he said to swing on by. I was seen immediately and me and my pup Foster relaxed indoors to diagnose the issue. They even had dog biscuits and a water dish! Not only did they figure out the issue and sent me on my way without charge, but they also followed up by text message to make sure I made the rest of the three hour drive home ok. As a previous small business owner, I hate to have to write a terrible review but in this case it is much needed. Much like another yelper, I was in a bind and found myself force to use My Car Doc. My 2012 Volkswagen Tiguan died in the middle of the road about .5 miles from my car doc. I was able to find My Car Doc on Yelp and saw they had decent reviews, I thought this was my best option since I was in a bind and worried my car may not make it any further. I went to My Car Doc and left there out $645 and a car in worse shape than when I brought it. Upon my arrival I was greeted by two friendly staff members and met John the owner as well. Since my car only has 60,000 miles and a 2012, I was unsure if the car was still under warranty. I explained that to John and he said he would take a look at what was going on with my car and contact Volkswagen before he did anything. He seemed like a standup guy and wasn't going to try and rip me off. I left my car with John and fairly assured that it was in good hands, but boy was I wrong. The next day I did not hear from MyCarDoc so I gave them a ring, I spoke to the mechanic and he informed me that my alternator needed to be replaced but he was waiting to hear back from Volkswagen to see if my car was still under warranty. Later in the day I called back and spoke to Laura, I informed her that my car was not under warranty and asked for her to provide me a quote to replace the alternator. She stated the alternator would be $348 and the labor at $105 an hour @ 2.01 hours for a grand total of $575. I told her to have John and his team proceed and Laura instructed me that they could go ahead and get the parts and my car would be finished that day. I called Laura back later that day to see if she had an estimated completion time, she informed me it would be done in the next one-two hours but would call me when it was completed. That time passed so I went ahead and called Laura back and she was extremely rude to me stating she would call me when it was completed but it would be completed that day. 5:30 rolls around and I still had not heard from Laura (they close at 6pm- if my car was going to be completed that day I would have to leave shortly) she assured me she would call me by 6 pm. At this point, I was afraid to call Laura to find out the status of my car due to her attitude! The communication was sub-par but sadly this isn't the worst of it all! Finally 6:10 I give Laura a call and she tells me that my battery/and or something else was also having issues and they would have to look into it further. I told her not to proceed with anything without my consent- she said she would call me the next day when they knew exactly what was wrong. The next day I did not hear back from Laura. Around noon I gave her a call and she told me my car was able to be picked up but it wasn't starting properly (you had to pump the gas to get the engine to turn). She told me it would be an additional $125 for the mechanics to figure out what was wrong THEN an additional cost to fix whatever was wrong. At this point I have spent $575 for an alternator and my car is STILL not working properly. Laura was a pain in the a@@ and I did not feel comfortable letting My Car Doc work any further on my car. She instructed me that my car was drivable but it took a little longer to start but I decided I would pick up my car and take it to a REAL mechanic. I went to pick up my car and John stated my bill was $645- I told him that was not what I was quoted. He informed me there was tax (obviously) and "Shop Fee" of $45- I asked what that was and he said "towels and clean up supplies" and that ALL shops charge this. What in the world?!?! Extremely frustrated I paid my bill and walked out. When I finally got to my car it took forever to start and when it did there were TWO additional lights on in my car that were not there when I arrived! MY CAR WAS IN WORSE SHAPE THAN WHEN I GOT THERE!!!! So now I am forced to take my car to another mechanic to see what is actually going on. Bottom line- John ripped me out $645 and left me with a car in worse shape. Yes- I could drive it off the lot but there are now additional problems on my car that were not there when I arrived. John made ZERO attempt to help resolve anything- he simply wanted more money from me and that I was not going to do. read more

In 2011 when I used My Car Doc, I was mislead about the price and when I went to start my car the next morning.... nothing. They'd left my interior lights on over night, making me late for work! Regarding the price, they quoted me only for labor and left off the parts. I specifically asked if that was the total including labor, and they said, "Yep!" Nope. My bill was approximately $250 higher than what I was quoted. When I called to simply complain, I was met with rudeness and arrogance, with John acting like I somehow should have known how much the parts would be. Whether the price discrepancy was due to greed or negligence, I can't say, but there was no mistake about how the conversation had gone, and I will never recommend them to anyone I know. I paid the bill because they did the work and I'm an honest person, but I will never let them touch my car again. Nope. read more

I was in a bind because my alternator was on its last leg, so after leaving the Auto Zone just down the road, I hurried up over to MyCarDoc as they had excellent Yelp reviews. It was extremely late, so I was expecting to just drop my keys in the box, but they were actually there so I walked in and talked to John and as I needed my brakes and rotors replaced as well, I told him to check those and any other items that were in poor shape that needed fixing. John and I had a good conversation and I left feeling that my car was in great hands. That would change from then on out though. The next day, I called in afternoon to see if they had been able to take a look at my vehicle, so I could hear the damage (money owed). I spoke with the manager and she told me that they would get it in that day, but I did not hear any feedback. Then I called back the next morning and spoke to Josh and he told me they would get it in to take a look. I received an email that day that said the receipt was attached, but it wasn't so I sent them a message and then on that next day they said they had never happened and finally they were able to send me a picture of the projected invoice to my phone. The total was startling at about $3k, I'll admit I am not a car expert so I was not sure of whether this was an accurate amount. I called in and spoke to John and asked what do I urgently need done and other than a loose door handle, he explained about everything was needing fixed ad he gave me some financing options to consider. Unable to fathom paying a $3k car bill, I drove over and spoke to the manager again. She was polite and I explained to her that with it being Christmas time, I would appreciate them going over the invoice again and deciding what needed done right now and what could wait as it would not affect my safety. She understood and got my bill down to a much more reasonable $1200, if I would go buy an alternator at Auto Zone that they had priced to me half the price of their options. Not only that, but she told me she would push to get it done that night or early the next morning. I left that day, Friday, two days after dropping the car off with a new stream of optimism that everything was smooth sailing from there, but I was wrong. I called the next early afternoon and spoke to Josh again and he said that he would call back shortly with an update, but that call never came. They are closed on Sunday, so I knew I would not get a response until Monday, but I never got one, so I left them a voicemail and reminded them that they were running behind on their timeline and I wanted a call early Tuesday as the communication had been extremely poor to that point. Josh called me on Tuesday afternoon and could tell that I was fired up about this poor communication and told me that it was just a series of unfortunate events: an emergency and the mechanic assigned to my car walked out. Why I agree these are unfortunate, communication to let me know of these unfortunate events would have eased my mind, but I had to call and check regularly just to get any sort of communication. Therefore I had Josh commit to me over the phone that it would be done that day. It was done that day and I picked it up. I have them my final concerns about the communication upon pickup which was followed by I should leave them a good yelp review and then talking about all the awards the have won for service. Now talking to the guys at MyCarDoc, they seemed to be good guys and I feel that we could enjoy a beer together. That being said, their communication was horrific and they refused to take accountability for their actions. When it really boils down to it, most mechanics will do a satisfactory job fixing your cars ailments, so really it boils down to communication and service and they did not provide either to a satisfactory level, so that is why I am giving them two stars. I on the other review of disappointment that they were sure to discount that yelper, but I reviewed this multiple times as I wanted to give you guys the facts. At this point, I will no longer use MyCarDoc again unless the reach out to me to apologize for their poor service and try to make this right. As I plan on living on the Northside of Indy for the rest of my life this $1200 exchange could have led to me being a $100,000 customer over the years, but now that money will be going elsewhere. read more

After checking to ensure the problem was corrected, my truck still was not running at optimal performance so the awesome mechanics at My Car Doc called to let us know that they were trying to locate the problem. The best customer service ever! These guys are the best. I was visiting from Chicago for work and went out to my car one morning and it wouldn't start or respond to a jump. I called around looking for someone to deliver and install a battery for my Land Rover. They answered immediately and drove out to the hotel parking lot quickly and installed a new battery! The car started immediately and they explained what they were doing every step of the way. I was so impressed that I drove my car straight to their shop and they changed my oil, fixed my spare tire issue, changed the power steering fluid and even fixed my lift gate. All in a matter of hours and for a fraction of the price that Land Rover would charge for just one of those services. They even texted me days later to make sure things were going well. We moved to Indy about a year ago and this was the first time I needed to get car work, but didn't know where to go. I came here because of the good Yelp reviews and I'm really glad I did. The two people in the office were very helpful (and very funny). They were able to get me in right away for a break inspection. I needed some pads and rotors and they were able to do the work right then when I waited. The price was very fair and I even got a Veterans discount. Worked us in on short notice when we had an issue while visiting from out of town, very efficient, personable and professional, ran diagnostics, and when the part needed to fix the problem was going to take longer to arrive than we would be in town, they said "no charge," refused to accept any payment, gave us the info and part number we would need to have our home repair shop fix it, and simply requested we "pay it forward" to someone else in need. Called and inquired about services. He stated there was NO fee to come out. He quoted a price that I couldn't agree with. He told our employee with the broken down service van that he would get with the office the next day about squaring up. True to his word, he did get a hold of us regarding his unquoted "diagnostic fee." When we questioned the fee, he threatened to bash my company for not paying our bills. He called my wife stupid and told her to shut up. I'm sure he does great work but we will never know. We aren't the only people that this has happened to either.
