Everything was great, and I definitely recommend this place! The only issue was with one staff member after we paid. She made us feel very uncomfortable because we didn't leave a tip. Throughout our meal, we asked for a few extra items that were never brought to our table, and she seemed annoyed whenever we asked if they had something they didn't offer. She even told us that tipping is "mandatory," which was very off-putting. Tips should be earned through good customer service, and unfortunately, she never checked on our table or made much effort to help us. Everything was great until we were leaving. Based on other reviews, it seems this has been a recurring issue that hasn't been addressed. The food was excellent, but I hope management reminds their staff that providing great customer service is what encourages customers to leave a tip, not pressuring them to do so. read more

My friend took me here for a very belated treat and it didn't it disappoint! We actually got there at 11:30 but didn't see a line so we thought we had time to shop around first. We can back around 12:15 and the line was out the door! Luckily the wait was only about 10 mins as we got a sit inside. My friend recommended the mini pan fried dumplings, xlb and the bean paste with noodles (jijiang mein). It was all amazing!! My partner and I were super excited to see a new dumpling spot has opened up that replaced the old location of Old Town Sushi. Inside the restaurant, it's pretty modern so it's aesthetically pleasing inside. Don't let that fool you though! I will say, I left the restaurant feeling unsatisfied and still wanted to eat which is not the best feeling... What we ordered: Original pork XLB: this was probably one of my favorite dish out of everything we had! The meat was super flavorful and it was juicy with soup. My only complaint is the dough/wrapper was a bit too thick for my taste. Panfried soup dumpling: probably the worst item on the menu that we tasted.... I'm not sure if they kneaded their dough too much but it was tough chewing into it and the meat wasn't as flavorful as the XLB. Salt&Pepper Fish: this was maybe the second worst item we tried.... The fish was tender but the breading on the fish tasted stale and had no seasoning. Beef Chowfun: it's really hard to mess up this dish but it was good! Probably my second favorite dish from everything we ordered. Overall experience: It was hard to flag down a waiter to take our order and we were sitting in the back of the restaurant next to the cashier. This is my go to place for delicious dumplings and more. I have been there many many times and my friends and family all loved their food. The Xiao long bao was on point. The pan fried buns were crispy on the bottom and the chive wraps were yummy. We had the Dan Dan noodles at one time and the beef stew noodles at another time. They both were delicious. I love their pea sprouts and if you like Wood-ears with okras, they gave you a very generous portion as an appetizer. Waiter was very friendly and would check on us every so often. Hands down, one of the best XLB/dimpling place in the Bay Area. Better than my previous favorite which is Bings or din dings in Fremont. Their XLB had plenty of soup and never broke or leaked. They have their version of hand pulled noodles and other foods here like dumplings. The price is reasonable. Got the braised beef noodles and it was delicious. The noodles were chewy. The beef was very tender. The broth was very flavorful and rich. Not recommend to get the spicy beef noodles. That was definitely spicy with Sichuan pepper. During my first visit to Kajiken on the first of November, 2024, waiting in line outside, MY Dumpling caught my attention. I walked in, checked out their menu, and immediately knew that I had to try this place out. Exactly two months later, we (Mom, the kids, and me) made it here, for New Year's, 2025 dinner. Venue: 4 stars. Located in downtown San Mateo on B Street, MY Dumpling does not have a parking lot, but there are plenty of spaces in the neighbouring streets as well as garages in walking distance. We easily found parking just about two blocks away. We arrived shortly after 5:15 PM to the small restaurant (Maximum occupancy must be around 80 persons) with many available tables, so were seated almost immediately at the table of our choice. The venue was brightly lit and tidy. Even the single restroom was fairly clean. Food: 4.75 stars. Below are the items that we ordered, most of which were enjoyed by everyone in our party. Original Pork Soup Dumpling (6) ($12.95) - We started off with two orders of these xiao long bao to share between four people. They were a hit with us, so we ended up ordering two more lots of six pieces each. Garlic Pea Shoots ($18.95) - These greens tasted fresh and perfectly seasoned. Beef Chow Fun ($13.95) - This chewy noodle dish was very nice. Even the boys liked it...and they very rarely eat Asian noodles. General Tso's Chicken ($13.95) - DELISH! The fried pieces of chicken had a great crunch and were packed with flavour. The addition of broccoli florets were a nice touch. Another favourite, we ordered an additional plate of this. Pork & Shrimp Wonton Soup Noodle ($15.95) - MY Dumpling's version of wonton soup gives generous amounts of dumplings and veggies. This was a nice, flavourful bowl that we shared. With a good balance of meat and vegetables, this soup could be served as a complete meal for one. Pan Fried Soup Dumpling (6) ($13.95) - Although there was broth inside, these seemed more like mini pork buns. This was the unpopular dish of the night, especially for Mom, Cielo, and me. Crispy Eggplant ($13.95) - Yummy! Probably THE BEST Chinese eggplant dish in the Bay Area. YAY! Free hot tea is served here!! The total for our bill before tip came out to be $186.81 for twelve dishes and complimentary hot tea which I found to be reasonable. Service: 3 stars. Placing orders at the table is via QR Code, so service is down to a waiter or waitress just serving food and drink to you. Call me old fashioned, but I prefer the traditional way of placing orders with a person whom you can ask questions and/or make specifications on your dishes. We also had to flag someone down to ask for our teapot to be topped off with hot water when we wanted more tea - they did not automatically do so when we opened the lid to signal for more hot water. By the time we were leaving the restaurant, the dining room was packed. We had a great first impression of MY Dumpling. This might be one of the best spots for Xiao Long Bao (XLB) in the Bay Area. The soup dumplings had delicate, thin skins but not too thin that it'd break upon picking up with chopsticks. The cucumber appetizer was generously seasoned with garlic, which might not be for everyone, but garlic lovers will rejoice. The boiled dumplings were as expected, but I was slightly disappointed with the pan-fried dumplings. The skin felt a bit doughy and dry, and there wasn't much soup inside. The restaurant was quite busy during lunch time. The QR code for ordering seemed to be experiencing some technical difficulties during our visit. We tried the chili oil pig ears, dumpling with pork, shrimp, and green chives, original pork soup dumplings, and the pan fried soup dumplings. While everything tasted fine, it didn't wow me. In my opinion, the dumplings had too much chive which overpowered the pork and shrimp. Overall, our meal didn't feel worth the premium price. I had slightly higher expectation for this place, based on the popularity, location, look and feel, hence my lower rated review. I would come back, but it's not a place I'd go out of my way unless I was really really craving some XLBs. The pan fried soup dumplings meanwhile, I would not order again. They were incredibly doughy and there was barely any soup. It ate more like a savory pastry. And lacking flavor, just a lot of dough. The Mongolian Beef was good but the beef was really chewy and it was spicier than I expected. There was just a pool of red sauce on the plate after. The General Tso's Chicken was really good, tons of batter but it was tasty and well fried. Though it just gave me Panda vibes, but not complaining. In general, the prices seemed a bit high like the green onion pancakes were $10 for relatively small portion and essentially double the price of Dough Zone nearby. On a positive note, the service was very friendly! Smiles and courteous throughout. Ordering is via QR code so we don't have to wait for the team to take an order and the food arrived quite promptly! The restaurant is also new and the interior is quite nicely decorated. I loved the attention to detail in branding "My Dumpling" on the chopstick holders and teapot. It has mostly 2-4 person tables so I can see it being tough for larger groups. We got the Original Pork Soup Dumplings, Cantonese Style Shrimp Dumplings, and the Egg Drop Seaweed Soup. The dumpling wrappers overall were very thin so the dough is not overtaking any dumplings. The filling of the pork soup dumpling had a lot of flavor. The shrimp dumpling was more of a shrimp ball rather than actual shrimp so it didn't have much shrimp flavor to me. The egg drop seaweed soup came exactly as it sounds, and had what I think are mixed frozen veggies (peas, carrots, corn) in it. So it was super simple and not too exciting. It used to be old town sushi but they've transformed the inside completely with bright lights and a fresh paint job. There were so many items on the menu we wanted to try but since it was only the two of us we opted for the Beef noodle soup, Tomato beef noodle soup XLB, and Mini pan fried XLB. The soups were both very flavorful and they were very generous with the meat although some pieces in my bowl were tough. The steamed XLB were filled with soup, the outside wrapper was thin to perfection, and had a good amount of meat inside. The mini pan fried XLB were perfectly bite-sized and we had no problem polishing off all 12 of them. My only complaint would be the reusable wooden chopsticks. Tried to pick out a clean pair but a bunch had tiny dark spots on it, possibly mold? The table next to us ordered some sort of fried fish and garlic eggplant. The food here was great, we got all of our food in a good timing matter. My friend and I love the place, it's super up to date and clean. The wait wasn't too long for a Friday night we waited about 10 minutes and we got the chance to watch them make the dumplings super cool! When we sat down we were greater and left with menus. We noticed we had to order with the QR code given at each table. Great we like that. We got all of our food with minimal checking in. When the place was getting ready to close, we were asked to close out early so they can close the register we were the last ones to sit and eat. They closed us out and I asked if we can use two cards they asked for one, great. When we paid, they walked away and we continued to finish our food. Not even 2 minutes goes by the lady comes back and tells us "the total does not include a tip" we said "yes we know" she continued to repeat herself again. We wanted to leave her a cash tip, but after we were done eating. Because of this comment she made me feel very uncomfortable after saying that and the two servers were hovering over us and over each other talking about us not leaving a tip. When leaving, they jumped up from where they were sitting and ran right over the table we were sitting at.
