The old cliche is that computer guys lack interpersonal skills. These guys only reinforce it. I dropped in on Day One and asked if they had the ability to repair an item. Sure they say- bring it on in. A week later, I bring the item in- this isn't what we regularly do, but happy to look at it for you. So far so good. Two weeks pass and no follow-up. I drop in to check on the progress. A voice from upstairs yells down, we haven't even looked at it. You should probably go somewhere else, we won't even look at it for a long time. How long is a long time? I dunno. In sum a complete waste of time, a declining interest in my repair after they have taken it in, and a rude and disconnected "sales person." If you have an emergency repair, look elsewhere. These guys have a ton to learn about customer service. read more

Wow, This guy was outstanding. He helped myself and a couple of friends with our cracked iPhone screens. We dropped off the iPhones, to this very nice and extremely friendly man by the name of Pourya, at his Berkeley location (He's a little on the quiet side, but that's okay, NO SUDDEN MOVEMENTS - kidding) My friends and I went to dinner on Shattuck Street and immediately after, he was finished, and that was that. Here's basically all you need to know 1) $110 for iPhone 5 screen replacement - the CHEAPEST quote I've found calling over a dozen places, half in East Bay and the other half in SF. Most places in Berkeley quote $119, with the highest quote I found in San Francisco's Inner Richmond for $150 (who the hell wants to drive all the way the eff out there to pay more money). Some shops WON'T do iPhone 5s at all. 2) 5 star review from 24 other yelpers. So I knew it must be good, and it was. Phone works NO differently than before, except now I have a SOLID new screen on my iPhone 5 and not a cracked one. 3) Pourya works out of his downtown Berkeley apt - so if you're in Oakland, or Berkeley area, it will be 5-10 minute drive for most of you. 4) The whole thing takes 15-20 minutes. Good guy to talk to, and he has SQUARE for easy credit card transactions. I know what these screens run price wise, depending on your iPhone model, so I felt good that I was not getting ripped off. Will take my old 4S to have the screen repaired - that way I have a phone to 1) sell if I choose, and 2) a second iPhone in case something happens to this one. Wow! Best ever!! :) I have a Samsung Galaxy Nexus and the power button died (a common prob with the Galaxies because the power button is used constantly - as an aside I learned about apps that can be installed to almost eliminate the need for the power button, but I digress...) Anyway, I turned to Yelp to find someone to fix it and came across Pourya, aka "My Emergency Guy". His website says that, along with the iPhone services he offers, he works on Samsung Galaxies, but when I called he said he wasn't doing that "yet". I was very disappointed until he said that the main reason he isn't doing them is because he hasn't found a reliable parts supplier -- well I knew where to get the part, so I asked him if he'd do it for me if I brought the part and he agreed. When the part arrived I called him and he asked that I bring the phone over in the evening because, since he doesn't work on these regularly he wanted to take his time with the repair. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to make it over there yesterday evening, but brought it by about 3:30 today thinking I'd probably get it back tomorrow, but in about an hour I got a call saying the phone was ready -- Hallelujah! I picked it up and it's working perfectly! He's a super nice guy, flexible, and (as all the other reviews indicate) his service turnaround is rapid! Samsung Galaxy 4 - black screen of death. Started with a step by step, very clear youtube video from India. Didn't work. Moved deep into the motherboard with a man from Russia who said nothing, had a shaky camera and a heat gun. Decided to stop. Drop the heat gun. What a great find! A cracked iPad 2 with 3G still costs $529 at the Apple store, so I figured it was best to fix it rather than replace it. My Emergency Guy came up on a Google search and was 6 blocks from my house. I dropped my busted iPad off at his place, did my shopping, and an hour later it was fixed for a much lower price than iCracked.com (who also took days to get back to me). I was happy to find someone to do it for $60 and I'm glad I took the chance. Things to know: this gent works from his apartment, so you'll be knocking on someone's front door. You will drop it off and pick it up an hour or so later (he will tell you how long it will take). Also, I think the replacement glass is not an OEM part, so at first it stuck a bit around the home key. No biggie for me, and not worth dealing with. I drowned my LG Trac phone. It was completely soaked. There was a large watermark under the screen. I tried blow drying it under cool air. I stored it in a box full of desiccant for 3 days. The watermark just got smaller. Unfortunately, I didn't back up my cellphone. I needed my data recovered (i.e., contact, call logs, & text messages). So, I called them. They were open, friendly and honest. $75 if they are able to recover my data, otherwise free. A couple hours later, they called me with the GOOD news. They were able to recover ALL my data from my soaked wet cellphone. MIRACLE! Excellent customer service, friendly, professional and best of all, reasonable price and really fast service. read more

I recently cracked the screen on my MacBook Pro. I got a ridiculous estimate from my local Apple Store ($650), so I called around to get quotes from different shops in the Oakland area. I don't usually write reviews but I just had to write one for this place. I was so impressed by the service I received after going to My Emergency Guy last month. The micro USB charger port on my vaporizer had stopped working so I decided to take it apart to see if I could figure out what the problem was. I noticed that the four tiny (and I mean tiny!) pin connectors that join the charger port to the circuit board had broken off. I honestly thought that it would be irreparable, or that the price to repair something as intricate as this would cost more than the item itself was worth. I found My Emergency Guy on yelp and was impressed by their great reviews so decided to give them a try. I'm so glad that I did!! Not only were they able to do the repair, but they did so without having to replace any parts (I thought the least it would need was a new charger port). I left it with them expecting to return in a few days to collect it (it was early afternoon on a Saturday and they were fairly busy) and I couldn't believe it when they told me it would be ready in a couple of hours! I dropped my iPad 2 (that is loaned to me from my job) and 3 out of 4 of the corners cracked and shards of glass were exposed. I made an appointment with M.E.G. online (they are over $60 cheaper than iCracked, btw) and the next day my appointment was confirmed. I took my iPad to their location (they share space with Metro PCS) and after dropping it off I was told it would take an hour and a half to two hours to fix. I was called to pick it up in about an hour and fifteen minutes. They even put on the protective film I bought (that stuff is really difficult to put on correctly). This place is fantastic. I walked in there at noon-ish on a Friday because my iPhone would no longer charge. A staff member greeted me as soon as I came in the door and asked how he could help. I explained the issue, and, after testing his own charger, he quickly diagnosed that something had gotten into the phone that was blocking the charger from working. He quickly dislodged the culprit and the phone regained its ability to charge. There was no indication he intended to charge me for the service (how nice!). My screen had previously been cracked, and I asked if he thought that's how the debris got into the phone. He said definitely, but did not push me to get a new screen (as you might expect in some places eager to sell a product). I asked if they could put a new screen on for me, and he said no problem and that they could have it done quickly. I walked out about 20 minutes later (even though they had multiple other customers during this time) with my screen fixed for a very reasonable price. Whenever i plugged my charger up my iPhone would turn on and immediately turn right back off. So I googled some cell phone repair stores and this one came up on yelp. I thought it would take half an hour or longer to fix it so I only paid .25cents(7 mins) for parking because I was going to take off and later come back, but to my surprise it literrally only took 8 mins to fix it.
