    Start Fresh Sandwich
    Ed D.

Came here for lunch and got a Start Fresh bagel breakfast sandwich. They only had plain bagels by this time so their bagels do run out. They still had a good selection of muffins so I got the Berry Crumble which was good. My bagel sandwich was also tasty. The cashier was nice and helped me pick out a muffin. Prices were good especially since the bagel alone got me full. The place was clean and had ample seating if u want to eat at the restaurant. Good place to get a fast meal.

    So many muffins!

Great before you jump on the train, limited coffee menu but the food selection is unmatched! This location is right next to my office, and I finally decided to give it a try as i left my breakfast at home and WOW. The muffin options were unreal. I came in for a bagel, but I got roped into also getting a muffin for later. Both tasted yummy to me and cost around $10. I normally bring food but when I am in a pinch I will gladly stop by here instead of Starbucks. Plus the guy who worked the register had such a great personality. Livens up the morning. Highly Recommend. Can beat the muffin flavors. Thank you guys :) See you soon. Overall 5/5

Finally got the chance to check this place out, had passed it a few times and the name piqued my interest. A breakfast sandwich is one of my favorite foods so it was not hard choosing what item to order. I chose the 'Southern tradition' (bacon, egg, cheese) on a sesame bagel and my girlfriend got the Veggie bagel (raw tomato bell, green bell Pepper and red onion)sandwich on an everything bagel. The real star of the show here we're the bagels themselves. Quite sure they're baked in house on the daily. The sandwiches were a little bland and simple. Don't get me wrong, they were bagel sandwiches so they were still filling and tasty, but there was plenty of room for more flavor. The muffin on the other hand was delicious and as rich as it gets. Very much reminded me of the deep fried Oreos you get at the fair, but not greasy. Kinda like Oreo cakesters. Didn't really taste the cheesecake flavor, but we had a Chocolate cheesecake muffin. This was delicious and almost two much to split. Worth it if you're in the mood for dessert or feeling decadent. Staff was polite and pleasant. Food came out in around 10 minutes. Very causal vibe. Similar to a Dunkin'' but with a better menu. Worth a try.

Nice place as I was walking around during my long airport layover and took the train to union station and was looking for some food. The breakfast bagel with ham egg and cheese was fine. Not the best bagel as it tasted a little "doughy" or perhaps a touch undercooked. Wasn't bad but wasn't great. The strawberry cheesecake muffin was tasty tho! Better than average and I'd come here again if I was in the area. Perhaps try two muffins :) . . Update. The staff read review right away while I was still at the shop. Offered to remake my sandwich with a different bagel. Totally unnecessary as it wasn't bad. Customer service is lacking these days so to see that responsiveness is certainly worth a bump from 4-5 stars. Appreciate the staff as they were nice from the get go! Made my morning. Cheers

One of the few places open at 6am next to union station. You can get coffee!!! Gourmet Muffins, Burritos, Cookies, Gourmet Sandwiches, Bagels, Catering and on and on.... Everything tastes great, staff is friendly and extra energetic for 6am lol

My fav muffin is definitely high on my lists of favorites. Although, it isn't a regular place for us due to the fact it can be a bit pricy for what you get. But the muffins are delicious! I love chocolate so my favorite is the Boston Creme or chocolate chip. They do have quite the variety of flavors and always have flavors that change with the seasons. They also have good breakfast and lunch sandwiches.

Was told they don't have smoked salmon cause this isn't New York... while ordering from "Big Apple Bagels"....
    Doug L.

Took me a second to order, I couldn't find the smoked salmon bagel sandwich. I asked, and was told "we don't have one, this isn't New York."... confuses I said I have had smoked salmon in many cities and countries and not just NYC... I ordered the BLT bagel sandwich, it was soggy and the bacon was dry. Crispy bacon is good, dry is not... especially when the bagel is wet. I laughed when I saw the napkin showed 3 distinct logos and that in fact the bagels were from "Big Apple Bagels" This just adds to the idiocy of not having smoked salmon because "Big Apple Bagels" is not NY... The muffins look pretty crazy! Big time mini cakes, not my style but they look really good, and a coworker gave them high praise! (The muffins get 2 of these 4 stars, I won't be doing the Bagels here again)

I can already hear the conversation. Have you tried My Favorite Muffin. Idk, what's your favorite muffin? No, not what, where? Confused? Well I made it unnecessarily so. This is a wonderful little spot and I love all the muffin selections. They are so decadent, they are almost like cake. I tried the pumpkin cheesecake muffin and it's so divine. Not overly sweet but hits the mark. All the selection looks great and the price is beyond reasonable at $2.

Businessmen getting breakfast before a meeting, young couples, and friend groups would all feel comfortable dining here. Breakfast was delicious and came out quickly. Hostess was attentive and friendly. Steak was tender but lacked seasoning, not a big deal. Loaded tots are to die for, you need to get these with your meal, you won't regret it. Would recommend if in the area, but nothing to go out of your way for. 8.5 out of 10 would recommend.

Upon doing so, you notice they've added two unusual changes -- a 2% "restaurant impact fee" and a 1% "kitchen staffing fee." We were told that the fee helps pay the kitchen staff because the wait staff doesn't share tips with them. We asked to have it removed and were told it cannot be removed. This is a problem based on principle and nothing else. There are costs associated with running a business. Pay your employees properly so that these fees don't need to be added. Be honest about it -- increase the cost of menu items if necessary -- but don't add HIDDEN fees! It makes you look slimy and dishonest. At the very least, remove the fees when your customers don't want to pay them. This really pales our opinion of this place. It's irritating and embarrassing for everyone, including the wait staff who have to explain the fees to the patrons, and in this case, receive a smaller tip.

Location (4 stars) This restaurant is downtown near the convention center. parking is pricy if you valet park at the hotel. Last year it was around $40. Parking in the lot across the street for $25 dollars Easter Sunday. If you use a walker, I would not recommend the parking lot across the street. Food (3 Stars) The Thanksgiving buffet is the best one. I would rate that buffet a (4). The Christmas and Easter buffet are pretty low key. There is a carving station (ham and prime rib). There is an omelet station. Dessert bar is decorative. Cheesecake was delicious. The warming station with potatoes, sausage etc. leaves much to be desired. The charcuterie station is sparse. They offer unlimited mimosas for an additional $25. Service (5 stars) Staff are extremely friendly. Cleanliness (2 stars) My only complaint, I saw a tabletop being cleaned off with a rag used to clean the chairs and then under the table on the floor and on to the next tabletop. I'm just a little picky about that. Especially since folks these days go commando and wear short attire, and you know their parts are on the chair and now spread to tabletops. Wiping up the crumbs off the floor with same rag simply through me over the edge. Atmosphere (4 stars) Spacious uncrowded environment. Nice decor. Bright with large windows.

I saw Former Saint on CBS News, and the menu and food looked incredible. In particular, that white chocolate blueberry cheesecake was something I know my hubby would look forward to all week! I loved the idea of local food and fresh homemade dishes. Sounds healthy, after a week of potential over-indulgence at other restaurant week venues. An additional bonus was that it is located right near the Denver Convention Center and the Performing Arts Center. This has become a dry spot for fine dining, with even the choices on Larimer Square growing more thin, giving rise to the inability to get reservations at favorites like Tamayo and Rioja prior to a show. I go to performances frequently with friends, and despite my rule to avoid hotel restaurants (Former Saint is in the Hyatt Regency), I thought I'd scope out Former Saint as a place to take my friends before the next symphony or Children's Chorale or ballet or broadway performance. I must say, the jury is still out. Former Saint was a Jekyll and Hyde of courses. Parking was not difficult (Yay, maybe I can park here prior to my shows, if I grab a bite first). There is a large garage, and the promise of validation from the restaurant. The ambiance of the restaurant is typical hotel restaurant. Booths, tables, old and a bit drab. Except for the bar. Oh, my! The bar has this BEAUTIFUL copper creation above it, adding so much industrial character to the space! I was in awe looking at it, as it appeared to bring craft suds to the bartender's taps. I didn't ask how it worked, as it wasn't clear how the beer separation and dispensing worked, but it was a great centerpiece and spectacle for the place. I do wish I had investigated more about this architectural marvel, and will do so if I return. For restaurant week, my husband chose the Lobster Ravioli, Ribeye, and blueberry cheesecake (as predicted). I chose the Gotham salad, roasted chicken, and key lime tart. The lobster ravioli was nice; my husband was surprised that it was a toasted ravioli, but enjoyed it. My salad was full of beautiful greens, pears, walnuts, and feta. No scrimping here! The dressing was light and sweet/sour. The pears were a bit unripe and crisp, to the point that I was having trouble identifying exactly what fruit I was eating, but other than that, the salad was beautiful, healthy, and ample. My husband's ribeye steak was a nice cut, done to his liking. Slivered hash browns were underneath with a nice green chimichurri on top and some sliced Fresnos adding a welcome kick to the dish. My chicken was delightful. 1/2 chicken on the bone, seasoned nicely, and with a pan sauce. The breast was super-tender and delicious. It came atop cheesy grits, which was a yummy substitute for a mashed potato. I also was served side salad of curly lettuce and fennel. I probably didn't need more salad, but I was glad to have the healthy side on my plate. I will say that this salad was over-seasoned. The chicken and grits were great, but the salad too salty. My husband ordered a glass of J. Lohr Cabernet, which was a very nice find on the wine list, as far as a pairing for his ribeye. That said, the glass cost $30! A bit much, I might say. The real detractor, unfortunately, was dessert. The blueberry cheesecake looked nothing like the beautiful creamy white cheesecake accented throughout by purple blueberries, which I saw on the CBS News clip. My husband was served a very small solid purple slice, overcome with whipped cream dollops. This cheesecake had been uncovered in the fridge too long, with sort of a skin on it. My husband ate almost none of it. My key lime tart was similarly over-adorned with whipped cream, although I had some nice raspberries on top. The tart also seemed overexposed to the cool air, with the thickening of a skin on top. It was a very disappointing way to end a nice meal, and belied the healthy, homemade, craft theme. High points of this experience include the well-crafted and healthy entrees, the fact that we could see the convention center right outside our window (i.e., the location is perfect for pre-event or -theater), the $3.00 validated parking fee, and that beautiful copper tap system. Will the pros outweigh the cons? Will we be back with friends? Time will tell.
