Staff was very friendly and accommodating so no complaints at all. The sandwich was below mediocre in my opinion. Bread is too bready and just doesn't taste fresh. Bread is the most important part of the sandwich if that's on point everything else will only enhance the the experience. I got on of the most popular sandwiches "Knuckle Sandwich" 6inch and so glad I didn't get the larger option. Wasn't impressed I wouldn't be back to try another sandwich. I want to love this place. Ice cold beers and subs, heck yeah! However, the workers make it hard to. First time there was about a year or two ago. No acknowledgment walking through the door so it took a good minute before we realized it was self service (Get up, get your own menu and order). Sandwiches are okay. Beer is cold. Thats a win in the desert. 2nd time it was my husband's birthday..besides my point, but maybe we had a little higher standards that day.. Anyway, I Got a turkey bacon avocado. My husband, a pastrami. The bacon on my sandwich was murdered to the point when you bite into it, it puffed up ash. (We were the only customers at the time!) and the pastrami gave my husband diarrhea. They ordered some beers and started talking shit about another coworker that was off for the day (but not there drinking) to the coworker that was working (Sure we all talk smash time to time, still not bothered.). Can't believe I've lived in Phelan for 6 years and this is my first time here! Ok but for real, these are just flat out great sandwiches. I came in for the first time and asked the very sweet lady at the register what she recommended. She gave me a couple of suggestions and decided to get them. The knuckle, Turkey Bacon avocado, and the buffalo chicken is what we ordered. All 3 were so good! Fresh ingredients and they weren't falling apart like other sandwich shops. When I saw the price for a 6" ($12 each) I was like ok that's pretty expensive, but when she brought them out I understood why. My first time going there, really enjoyed the environment they have a little bar. It's also family friendly and they have theme nights like family night and football night. It's a good place to hang out with your friends. The people that work there were all very friendly the sandwiches were very good. The prices are decent, the sandwiches were actually pretty big in size. I recommend ordering ahead because it takes a minute for them to make the sandwiches but they come out so good totally worth it. My family and I decided to try this place out. It's been over three years and they're still in business so we figured it had to have improved. Wrong. The turkey, bacon, avocado had about 1 small slice of avocado spread on the bottom, one slice of tomato with 2 slivers of tomato, and the turkey tasted funky. Their potato salad and macaroni salad tastes like it's from stater brothers (probably is and if it is they're making bank). And no more Italian dressing? Never again. You could do better my hero subs . Pretty slow, only 4 other customers in the place. As soon as we sit at the bar the cashier tells us that the deep fryer was broken and was warming up so anything requiring that would probably take about 20mins because the oil had to get hot. Keeping that in mind we decided to go with cold sandwiches and chips. 45 mins later they bring out our sandwiches saying they had plumbing and deep fryer issues. Not sure how that affected making cold sandwiches but my wife noticed that her sandwich was not the sandwich she ordered. After the cashier and the cook went back and fourth about who made the mistake they asked if we wanted to wait for them to make another one. We declined and asked for a refund. We decided to share mine, however we noticed mine was cut the wrong way. We decided to eat my poorly cut sandwich because we were in a rush and were still hungry. The sandwich tasted great. Id like to offer the owner 3 pieces of advice, we like the place and the sandwiches are good but your customer service needs improvement 1. Teach your team about customer service, 45 mins to make a sandwich, c'mon man that's a bit much. They should have offered a discount right off the bat or at least some complementary appetizers. 2. Prioritization, teach your team to prioritize in these situations, fryer and grill down?, knock out the cold sandwiches, do what you can to keep things moving 3. Quality control, it's a piece of bread, GET A NEW piece. We should never have been served mistakes, especially after having to wait that long. Double meat roast beef 12" sub combo with small drink and fries. Roast beef was gray - either old or overcooked. Pretty cheap in the meat considering that I paid for DOUBLE MEAT. We got 2 - 12" combos with "double meat" and it cost $25. It's not so much the price that bothered me, it was the lack of quality and small portions when I paid to get a premium sandwich. I've eaten here before the pandemic, and the sandwiches were really good and fresh. I don't remember if I ordered double meat back then, but it was a really tasty sandwich then. I'd probably give them another chance once this is over, but I'm not anxious right now. This was very disappointing, like I feel like I'm still being generous by giving 3 stars - more like 2, but I'm hoping this was just an exception to their norm. read more

Look, we are here once when we first moved to the area. The 'waitress' was barely dressed (enough that it even made me uncomfortable!) and she spent most of the time complaining about life to her friend who was seemingly hanging out that night... I do believe in second chances though and since then I've learned that they've had new owners, and have done some great improvements. I like heading up there for lunch on my days off, or occasionally stopping in for dinner with the family. I tried it out, had the french dip. Roast was dried out and tasted old. Seems more like a dive bar than a sub place. Sub and pub? Lmao should be just "my hero pub" I dont drink beer but im sure that would be nasty too. My girlfriend had TBA(turkey bacon and avocado) they smeared what seemed like guacamole instead of avocado. She only had one bite and told the server and all she said was sorry. They got money from us and didn't bother making it right. Stopped in for lunch on Saturday. Service was friendly and quick. We ordered a hot pastrami with French fries and a buffalo chicken sandwich with jalapeño poppers. The French fries were delicious and hot with the perfect amount of seasoning. The pastrami was good, but the meat was reheated in a microwave. The buffalo chicken sandwich was made with frozen chicken nuggets and was soaked in ranch which made the whole sandwich soggy. However, the jalapeño poppers were by far the biggest letdown. The cream cheese was over powering and the jalapeños had no flavor. I had heard these were killer, but was sadly disappointed. I wish they had a real cook in the back, making fresh food. If I had wanted microwave food I would have stayed at home. Overall, it wasn't the worst sandwich shop I've been to, but it was nothing to write home about either. Not sure if I should have gone with 3 or 4 stars. I love this place but consistency is not their strong point. Sandwiches lack volume and substance. Still ingredients are good and the atmosphere is fun. They have a "jukebox" inside and great tables for large party's. Very comfortable environment. Not sure about nights or weekends but I enjoy bringing the kids here for lunch. They love to choose songs and play games. I haven't had any memorable interactions with employees. Not exceptional but nothing negative either. I sometimes call our order in and they have it ready when we arrive. The sidekicks are really good. I know the mozzarella sticks aren't homemade or a difficult thing to put out but I really do like them from here. They are always hot and melty and never cold, under fried or overcooked and hollow. Served the way mozzarella sticks should always be served. I recommend giving this place a try. Decide for yourself about the sandwiches. We stopped going to my hero months ago because of their laziness in sandwich making. We decided to give them another chance today, big mistake. I ordered a TBA, my bread was stale, the avocado on it was BLACK. And my sandwich had a total of 2 pieces of turkey on it... I also ordered a philly cheese steak (which was roast beef not steak) and they covered it with black avocado as well. It's shocking how the women working saw the black avocado and still proceeded to smash it all over my food. Let's not get started on the chemical smell that fills the place as soon as you walk in. It took them 45 minutes to make two sandwiches that where mediocre and served us FROZEN fries. They have really let this place go. Totally not satisfied and a waste of $30. We did not even finish our food, we got it to go and threw it away because of how terrible they tasted. 10/10 only recommend for their appetizers & beer. We having been going to my hero for a while and the food is always great especially the jalapeño poppers. We stopped going because the service was lacking and the employees seemed checked out. Recently we decided to try it out again, we went in this past Wednesday night, and I am glad we did. The food was great and service was excellent. The girl working the bar was really nice and helpful, she went out of her way to check on our table, refill our beers, and pick up our empty dishes. I will be returning. read more
