Why am I not surprised by the 5 stars? This practice is clean and well organized. When you check in, they seem to be expecting you. (I'm surprised how rare that is for medical type stuff, but here we are.) We've never had to wait very long, and the explanations of what's happening and why are clear. I have never met such kind, capable people. I'm a mom of 3. 2 kiddos are neurotypical and my oldest is special needs. We struggled with our insurance with finding a good provider that understands kids with developmental disabilities and challenges with hygiene, anxiety with visits and options for care. The waiting room is fun and kid friendly with shows for the kids and video games and comic book heroes visiting the dentist too. Dr. Gookin was recommended to me by moms with autistic children or those with genetic disorders. The way he tried to help my oldest even though we have to seek care from a dentist that deals with grown up teeth was so great. To get a baseline of what could help. My other two, we're absolutely terrified of another provider and my youngest was the hardest. The way they offered to have them see the office beforehand and say hi to the practice was so nice. It's so hard to find a provider that all the kids mesh with. I cannot recommend these folks enough. They took such good care of my little guys and made everything from referrals and new patient set up to post op recovery so easy for us. If you have kids that need a decent amount of work. Well, this place just knocked my socks off. My kids have seen two dentists before. One was regular and one was pediatric (which totally traumatized my son). This was like a whole different experience. It was like the first time. I chose this place based on Yelp reviews. You mean Hollywood and movie themed? I mean, my kids are only obsessed with Disney! If you can speak their language and engage them in things they like, YES. I accept all the bribes as long as my kids happily go to all dental and doctor appointments without a fight. Because I have experience the fight and it's not pretty. And it doesn't just end walking out of those doors. It scars them. The people were super sweet and managed x-rays (I wanted), cleanings and flouride without even a small issue. Like, flawless. The dentist was very explanatory and the cleanings happened side-by-side at the same time. They liked being near one another and I liked being able to manage both at the same time. They received the usual bag of goodies (floss, brush, paste, stickers) and also a token to the machine in the entrance that had a bunch of little toys (think grocery store quarter machines). This little 3-cent toy meant a ton in sending my kids off with happy feelings about this place. They even said they had FUN. Seriously, I wish I could say that about my own dental experiences... even though I've recently reviewed my own awesome experience here (despite that fillings I need...). read more

Kind staff and friendly environment, with 3 kids 2yo, 5yo and 8 yo I'm so happy that every time we've visited the kids are happy to go and even if they have a little nervous feelings they get removed by the the great kid explanations and the distracting tv or games. I'm not rightly a person to give negative reviews. I'm pretty sold on the old school teaching of 'if you can't say something nice...' but I feel like this office crossed an ethical boundary. My youngest of three went to see Dr. Gookin seven months ago at a little before age five. She is an energetic little spirit. So I wasn't surprised that, although she'd been to her previous dentist before our move several times, she was still excited to be there. Very excited. I recognize that Mr. Gookin is younger and therefor not as versed yet on dealing with all types of kiddos but, even with my reassurances, he veered away from even trying to clean her teeth. He spoke of wanting to build trust. I support that. But I also understand my child, who unfortunately in her little life has had to undergo everything from endoscopes to heart exams, and wished he would have at least tried per my request. Next minor thing. Her teeth showed signs of possible cavities forming. This was to be potentially expected from her having reflux until age three. However. When Dr. Gookin requested we apply Silver Dimite to her teeth that day I stated I wasn't comfortable for my lack of knowledge of it and wished to speak with my husband first. Except that wasn't made to be okay. I had to reinforce that at least three times. And finally he basically threw up his hands, told me they would get worse because of it and stopped. His demeanor was that of a passive aggressive individual who, at that point in time, treated me as an uneducated individual verse the reality of who I am - a Mama who is no stranger to kids with medical issues and who knows how to speak up when not comfortable. Also. The office wasn't tidy. Minor thing. Maybe. But evident by the overflow of tools filling their sinks and countertops. And finally. My ethical concern. Upon leaving the office I thought over it and the interactions for a few days and decided I would not be returning. I called and canceled the upcoming appointment for my other kids. I felt it unnecessarily to voice my concerns to them and simply said I needed to cancel the appointments. And then found a new dentist, who we LOVE. I decided to get a second opinion on my youngest. The new dentist was patient with her energy, gave her a teeth cleaning and gave me an in depth explanation of the process of silver dimite. We went with it. HOWEVER. Before her appointment they called and called and called Dr. Gookin's office and his office refused to send over her x-rays. Three weeks and they wouldn't do it. I am aware I could have gone in and retrieved them myself. However, up until the appointment I thought 'they must be sending them over since it is illegal to withhold medical records'. And when I took my youngest in, and they still weren't there, the new office was very apologetic and expressed their concern over Dr. Gookin's offices refusal to send over the x-rays , and I finally said to hell with it, we will pay out of pocket in six months for a third set in the calendar year (my insurance, like most, allow two per calendar year.) And so. Here I am. Six months later fronting the bill for the third set. It is a worthy expense. There isn't a monetary value I can place on their health. But. Their office knew what they were doing by dragging their feet and then never sending the x-rays over. I'm glad that other people's reviews don't reflect my experience as I'd hate to think anyone could be in business if all their patients had experiences like mine. However. If you as a parent finds yourself in such a circumstance with them, know that you aren't the only one. read more

My 4 year old had to have extensive dental work done for many cavities and needed a tooth removed. She had not been to a dentist before because she was terrified from some traumatic doctors visits when she was younger. I went to My Kids Smile and I can't say enough good things about them. My daughter had to have general anesthesia for the procedure and they had an amazing anesthesiologist come out, everything was explained in detail, all my questions were clearly answered and the communication and care we received was the best I have ever experienced. I really love the ambience in here. It's very geared towards kids. They have different Disney movies playing in all of the rooms and they make it look like a movie theater. Dr. Gookin and his staff are amazing! He has seen my daughter twice now and each time he has sang to her while counting her teeth, today was Reindeer are better than people from Frozen. They are all so patient and honestly kind people. They take Medicare and my daughters teeth came out perfectly. It was at no cost to us and I have never been more nervous in my life when she was put under but the anesthesiologist was one of the most professional and caring men I have ever met. He talked us through the whole thing and I have never seen my daughter focus so intently on someone's face as they reassure her she will be okay. The process was so quick and we got to be on the room with her. I am taking all my kids here from now on and I was impressed from the minute I talked with the first employee to the last employee.
