As former New Yorker & new transplant to Phoenix I was happy to see a legit Italian deli. I had the #7 Italian Stallion, & my sp had meatball sub. Next time we may decide to share a sandwich bc they were decent sized. After we ate we did some shopping, found a few things that our supermarket didn't carry. We've been searching for an Italian deli and bakery that reminds us of the great spots on the East Coast, and this is probably the closest we've found in the Valley. Overall, there were definitely more hits than misses. The deli offers an impressive variety of hot foods. The sandwiches coming out of the kitchen looked fantastic, and there are plenty of pasta dishes and traditional Italian entrées available as well. We didn't order a hot meal on this visit, but we'll definitely be back to try one. The market section is also worth browsing. They carry a wide selection of pastas, sauces, olive oils, canned tomatoes, and other Italian staples. My only suggestion would be to expand the specialty pasta selection with options like squid ink, spinach, or roasted red pepper varieties. Of course, we couldn't leave without visiting the bakery case. We brought home an assortment of Italian cookies, a black and white cookie, a Napoleon, chocolate cannolis, and a brownie. The brownie was the one item that didn't impress us, but everything else was delicious and tasted fresh. One thing to be aware of is parking. The lot is quite small, and both we and several other customers ended up parking across the street. It's not necessarily something the business can control, but it's worth mentioning if you're visiting during a busy time. The fact that this shop has been around for decades says a lot about the quality and loyal customer base they've built over the years. We had a delicious lunch at this spot today, it's an Italian grocery store / deli. I went with the hot NY pastrami with mustard, lettuce, tomato & onion, the bread was soft on the inside and crusty on the outside. My friend had the Robert Sandwich and he said it was the best sandwich he's ever eaten.. lol.. he loved it, def a fan. Next time I'm getting something from one of the bakery cases. The cases full of cookies & cakes looked amazing! The eating area was in the middle of the store. The parking area is small we found parking right away but I can imagine it gets busy, the service was fast & friendly. The variety of food items was really good. When you walk through the door of this little deli, you are greeted like you are home. Everyone is so friendly and that is refreshing in a big metropolis like Phoenix. We saw all the desserts right when we walked in and let me tell you, sooooo good. We settled for deli sandwiches and some salads. All very good. I plan to try everything on the menu so this will one of many reviews. The value was quite reasonable and we had leftovers, so two meals from one sandwich! So much meat on it that you fill up fast. The best part about being in the deli is the atmosphere. There is a full grocery store of Italian foods, people eating at the dining area and ordering going on at the deli counter. Been here before but forgot to leave a review. I love these sandwiches, they load them up and love the shredded lettuce. I got the mortadella and cheese and added prosciutto. It was fantastic. My husband got the George's special and he loved it. The antipasto mix salad was fantastic so much meat and veggies. Service was great the guy who took our order at the counter was patient as we decided on what to get. Love that u can shop for snacks and Italian pasta and sauces while u wait. My boyfriend brought me an Italian stallion sub. It was bohhhhmb. So good. my daughter got a chicken cutlet sub which was pretty good but she got it with nothing on it just the chicken and cheese. I would've got it with all the fixings and really enjoyed that. I look forward to going back and trying some other things, but I can't say for the Italian stallion sub it was delicious. I also had a cannoli absolutely delicious and my daughter had a cream puff and she loved it so all the food was amazing and again can't wait to try some different stuff next time. read more

Wow! Saturday at 5:30pm and still very busy. Met the owners at the counter. Family business and they take pride in what they serve. Sandwiches were excellent! Also enjoyed some bakery treats and fresh bread. We went with Italian Stallone and chicken parm with the works. So fresh. They have a wide selection of authentic Italian staples. It's the real deal. The aroma is great the moment you walk in. Decent size grocery selection too to go along with their restaurant, the latter of which we came for. Had the meatball sub and green salad. Both tasted great and both were of generous portion sizes. The eclair was delicious and large in size. The cream puff was delicious, as well. Ended up purchasing a jar of spaghetti sauce which we haven't opened yet but are anxious to try. We are definitely coming back. I'm going for the Reuben sandwich! read more

Finally returned after many years. The chicken cutlets are now in an open area (too open i think), but they are all hot. They never heard of a cold chicken cutlet hero even though I think they are from NY. Well, I tried the eggplant parmesan hero for $12.99 and that was pretty good, although there definitely could have been some more mozzarella cheese involved. read more

Romanelli's is a marvelous Italian grocery store. TEN STARS! The kind of place that hits you with nostalgia before you even grab a basket. I stepped into this joint and transported back in time - Sunday after church, five years old again with my grandparents, standing at the counter of Giannella's in Paterson, NJ. With the exception of the cashier dude, the staff was...uh..."mezza morto," and definitely in need of some Italian or Italian-American inspiration. A little life. A little rhythm. A smile perhaps. I ordered a chicken cutlet sandwich, add wet mozzarella, hot soppressata, roasted red peppers, oil, and balsamic.. The cutlets were too thick and the mozzarella, although fresh, was strangely tasteless. Apparently this sandwich was infused with gold, crypto, or something because it rang in at $24 with the add-ons. My person had the eggplant parm, which unfortunately was over-seasoned with only a slight trace of mozzarella. The marinara on the side was undefinable. We hit the bakery on the way out. The sfogliatella and cannoli were great, and so were the ladies behind the counter, warm, lively, and actually happy to be there. Look, I'm goin' back to Romanelli's. I'll even pay another $24 for a sandwich. There's a reason this place has been there for decades, and they deserve another shot. read more

Romanelli's is an staple in Phoenix and one of the best Italian deli's and markets I have been to. I am rarely in the area so every time I get the chance, we stop in. Today I got the chicken cutlet sandwich with everything on it and added mayo. My sister got the Italian stallion sub. we got a medium size of the Caprese salad and Italian sodas. We also ordered cannolis and assorted cookies from the baked goods area. The food is incredible but the staff is truly what makes this place special. Everyone is so kind and make sure that you have a good experience every time. They have a large variety of imported goods of high-quality from Italy and other European countries. While they have a lot of inventory, everything is organized in a way that makes sense and doesn't feel overwhelming. If you haven't had the opportunity to go to Romanelli's, I encourage you to go as soon as humanly possible. read more

First off, I want to say that this WAS our go to sandwich spot. Where we would drive 30 minutes to grab a good sandwich. We ordered the usual and when we got home to enjoy the sandwiches, I've seen better from a 7 year old kid. They were soggy and flavorless. We called to let them know of the underwhelming service and food for feedback purposes. I believe there is a new younger guy working now. We were greeted with EXTREMELY RUDE comments. Even mentions of going to McDonalds instead. As a loyal and frequent customer, this was unacceptable service(to a WOMEN, at that). We arrived from Oregon for a trade show and wanted some tasty sandwiches and found Romanellis Deli. We are so glad we stopped by this place. We ordered 3 sandwiches and each one was a piece of heaven. The bread is perfect and must be baked daily as it was so fresh. The construction of the sandwich is true perfection and the meats are cut nice and thin. The Italian dressing on the sandwich is amazing and pulls the whole sando together. We saved one half of a sandwich and even the next day it was so good and the bread was not soggy. On our way back to Portland we stopped by at 9 in the morning and ordered 3 more sandwiches for lunch on the airplane. The second visit did not disappoint and everyone in our group was so happy we stopped by to grab these amazing sandwiches for our trip. The staff is super friendly and the service is amazingly fast. The desserts are next level yummy! They have a huge selection of italian goodies that you cannot find in many stores. We brought home a jar of their pasta sauce for dinner when we got home and I don't think it could be any better. It felt like we were eating at a fancy italian restaurant at home. Romanelli's Deli is a newfound treasure. I have searched the area for the past 22 years attempting to find a true Italian deli and this is it!!! I made homemade meat sauce this past weekend and the mild Italian sausage from Romanelli's is by far the very Best I have had since moving from Cleveland 22 years ago. Service is always very friendly. To be honest I'm not a huge fan of the location. The parking lot is very small. There's plenty of things to look at, get some grocery shopping done, big pastry cases. It has "Italian deli" vibes which are very inviting, and you can sit inside and eat after you purchase your sandwiches and snacks. The sandwiches are always good. My favorite is the Italian stallion. I love me a good 'hole in the wall' spot! Romanelli's is probably not a place you'd pop into considering the location. You might even miss it while driving by. But this place is where it's at for good Italian flavors! I really enjoyed the Italian Beef sub and had to come back to try the pizza. My son and I were greeted by this cute nice girl who gave me all the background info and even introduced me to the 3rd generation owner. The store has so many great Italian grocery options, it feels so family oriented in there we loved it. We've been here a few times within the last week. Hubby's family lived not far from here for so many years, yet this was the first time he's been...LOL! The first time we came, I had the Reuben and Hubby had the Italian Sub. They were both wonderful! Their cole slaw is really creamy and it was a perfect side, as well as being on my sandwich. This time, I had a Chicken Parm Sub and Hubby had the Chicken Parm & Spaghetti. Again, they were both so good!!! They are also a bakery and we picked up a few items from there each time. Their butter cookie selection is mouth-watering and Hubby loves their Key Lime Cheesecake. Not only are they a deli and a bakery, they're also a grocery store with a ton of great Italian specialties. We wandered around after eating and I picked up a few things, which I'm looking forward to eating later. The best Italian food! However, there's a unethical practice in overcharging their customers. My sub with taxes costs $16.35, but I was charged by the lady at the front with black hair a total of $17. She rounded it up without my permission. If they're are stealing small change from their customers like this and it's a wonderful place for Italian food, they're making more money on our expense. First time at Romanelli's. What an amazing place!!! I'm from Pennsylvania originally and I've eaten in a fair number of "Italian Deli's " and this place is a real as they get. Family run, huge deli, homemade sandwiches, and a great grocery selection. I had the chicken parm sub which was perfectly breaded with sweet sauce and mozzarella cheese. But the bread!!!!! Toasted in the oven (to die for). My girlfriend's cheese lasagna was also great with perfectly cooked noodles and plenty of cheese. I can't recommend Romanelli's enough. Our quest for a good Italian deli here in Phoenix led us to Romanelli's today. We browsed the shelves and bought a number of jarred charcuterie items for an upcoming event. I stopped by the hot foods section and got a combo platter of lasagna and sausage with peppers and onions and garlic bread. I plopped my butt down in the dining area and enjoyed the food, although my wife insisted that I share with her. :) The portions were big enough for the two of us and it cost about $22 for the food, including a bottle of soda. The missus bought a sfogliatelle (yes, I had to look up the spelling) to eat on the drive home and said it was the best she's ever had...and she's quite the Italian pastry snob so it had to be good. During our visit, we interacted with many of the store's workers and everyone was polite and professional. I'm giving them only 4 stars because of their absurd 4% charge on credit/debit transactions. In doing some research, I've found that debit card fees are generally 7 cents per transaction, while credit cards generally top out at 3%. It seems that it's a bit of a money grab by them or a way to steer customers towards cash-purchases, which are easier to hide. read more
