I have really bad eyesight and need high index lenses (aka coke bottle lenses). I got my prescription from my eye doctor and was thinking of going to Lenscrafters since they have more frame style options. But then I started reading Yelp reviews and freaked out and found My Optical Shop instead. I liked my current frames so I thought maybe I could just get new lenses put in. George was welcoming and helpful right when I stepped through the door. He doesn't give eye exams, he just makes the lenses so you will need to get a prescription from somewhere else. He helped me find new frames that would make my lenses look "not as thick". His price was reasonable too. Because of my high index lenses, my glasses are usually super expensive so there was no sticker shock. My glasses were ready in about 2 weeks and he took his time to make sure they fit comfortably. The nose bridge on my titanium rimless glasses unexpectedly broke. Returned to the shop in Gardena where I purchased them and to my surprise, was told it couldn't be repaired or replaced. I went round in circles with the gentleman there on any option possible, explaining to him that I wasn't looking to buy a new pair at this time. I believe he was trying to upsell me rather than accommodate my request for a repair at this time. That shop near Ramona's on Crenshaw & Redondo Beach Blvd just lost my business. Found My Optical Shop via Yelp and gave the proprietor, George, a call. His phone manner was very pleasant with zero pressure tactics. Met him at his shop and he proceeded to clearly explain the repair process to me. Very nice, clean, bright "homey"-feeling shop on the sw corner of Prospect & Torrance Blvd. He disassembled my frames in front of me with professionalism and care and promised delivery the following Monday (this was Friday). Lo and behold, he called me on Saturday saying that the glasses were ready! He'd found a new bridge that matched my frames and installed it. I couldn't make it there until Monday but was very pleased with the matched part and quality of repair. We enjoyed a nice conversation while he adjusted my glasses to my comfort. But if you're in the market for a custom eyeglass professional, you will find that George Gomez is the man for you. I usually get my prescription eyeglasses at a big box warehouse store that's known for their high quality and great customer service. When they couldn't get my job done they confidently referred me to George. My glasses needed something more than just the standard prescription glasses. George took a look at my frames and explained what options I had with the specific frame I found. George is totally transparent. I advised him of what I wanted and he let me know what was realistically possible. I have had my prescription glasses for 60 days now and they are still as good as the day that I picked them up from My Optical Shop. The fit is still comfortable and snug, not too tight and not loose enough to drop off my face if I look down too abruptly. George the owner is a man true to his word. When I bought my glasses six months ago he was very cordial, and full of information. I gave him a price range he gave me my options. I came in with a frame broken beyond repair, and he offered to switch the unbroken lenses into any pair of frames for free of charge. He also said if I ever needed to repair my glasses he would complete any kind of fix on the house True to his word, after a screw popped out of my glasses earlier today, George fixed my glasses and said "Have a nice day!". Maybe this place is good for big repairs and lenses. But be aware that for the tiny push in nose pads which are a dollar a pair anywhere online he will charge you $15. 1500 % profit. Moreover, he put white nose pads into the black frame and still wanted to charge me that exuberant price. read more

George was a life saver as my husband broke his glasses late in the afternoon while we were traveling in California. I took the glasses into My Optical Shop expecting to have to wait a day or two for repairs to be made. However, the frames were beyond any chance of repair. So instead, George picked out new (reasonably priced) frames, inserted my husband's lenses, and adjusted the frames to fit my husband all in less than an hour. He has a lab within his shop, so all repairs and fittings can be done in a timely manner. I am so grateful for finding George's shop. George is a warm, sincere person and a fantastic individual to interact with. I wish we lived closer so this could be our regular place to go to for glasses. read more

George took great care of me. He will take care of you too. I had a new prescription, but wanted to keep my own frames. No problem. It took a week for George to get the lenses in that he ordered, which he cut himself. Once they arrived, I dropped my frames off and 1-2 hours later I returned to pick them up. My eye doctor wrote me a bad prescription that I couldn't get used to even after 2 weeks. I went back in and got a new prescription. George ordered the updated lenses, cut, and swapped out the bad lenses with zero cost to me. George is very flexible and very friendly. I've never had a good experience at large stores like Lens Crafters. I will continue to go My Optical Shop as long as I live here, no question. read more

I was embarrassed to seem like such a picky customer, with such a weird problem, but he put me at ease right away. I walked in and asked about getting Very Dark Lenses for the Frames I already had. George's answer... no problem! I loved that answer. Wish I'd found this place sooner! The frames of my glasses were broken so I needed to buy new frames and have the lenses transferred. I'm so glad I found this place! I had an emergency, the underwire for my glasses broke on one of my lenses 640pm. Called everywhere around the area, no one was willing to do the job, because they said it was pain. I called My Optical, and he told me he could handle it, and to come on down. They closed in 10min, but he asked me to come down and he would take care of it, while I wait. Took him less than ten minutes and he only charged ten bucks. He gave them a thorough cleaning and adjustment. When I need another pair of glasses, I'm definitely coming here. I am really impressed with the guy (it seems from other Yelp reviews his name is George but I didn't get it while I was there today) who runs My Optical Shop. I came in for a quick repair on a pair of glasses that had broken. He had just gotten finished with an obviously difficult client (the kind of person who blames everything on everyone else even when there's not actually an issue, even though from the sounds of it, My Optical Shop held zero blame in her issue and she was just fishing for someone to blame about her poor choices) and could have carried that frustration over to dealing with me. But instead he couldn't have been nicer, giving me plenty of time to fix my glasses -- which by the way, weren't bought at his store -- and make sure they fit. He then cleaned them and handed them back. I figured the repair would be somewhere between $10-$25 and he refused to take money. I told him I had a pair of sunglasses that needed repair too and he told me to bring them in, he'd take care of them the same way. I hadn't been in The Optical Shop before today, but i can assure you I'll be going back for my next pair of glasses. I first met George when I had a "glasses" emergency about 12 years ago. I could not believe here was a person who fixed my glasses in no time flat and he did not even want to charge me.
