I have to say, I expected more, and perhaps that was unfair of me. I knew they had opened a couple months back, and Enstar's notice/request to use less gas at home during this cold snap, I called an audible and surprised my wife with an order from My Shawarma House. We enjoyed our food, but it didn't hit like I thought it would. Let me explain. We ordered a lamb shawarma wrap, a beef shawarma wrap, two sanbusas, and a lentil curry to go. They were super busy (5pm on a Thursday). When I picked it up, everything seemed to just come out of a hopper, except for the curry. This means it was sitting around a bit. The sanbusas were exceptionally greasy, but delicious. The white sauce was tasty as well, but the pickled jalapeno/spices dip just stomped the flavor of everything. Once I had that, everything just tasted mostly the same, and I love spicy food. So beware of that. I'm pretty sure the very kind and rushed woman behind the counter explained to me that she had ladled the curry into one of those styrofoam takeout trays, but I didn't catch that, and so when I got home and we opened stuff up, we ended up with curry leaking out everywhere. And since they put it in a wide, flat container with a clamshell lid, it cooled off A LOT in the short car ride home. Really bad on their part to not have containers for curry, but also bad on my part for not paying closer attention to her warning. The lentil curry wasn't particularly good--quite salty actually. It was served with plenty of rice to sop up what was left. The shawarmas were tasty, but I thought there was supposed to be some lettuce, onion and pickles in there? I didn't notice any. I'm certainly not going to write off My Shawarma House because the potential is certainly there, and everyone deserves a second chance. But I'll give them a month or two before trying again. And maybe the kebabs will be up and running by then! read more

Everything was wonderful and super flavorful. Plus the Halal market is awesome. My only "complaint" is that I wish the falafel was a little crispier on the outside. This is a great addition to Anchorage. I have yet to see any other restaurant with Somali food items. We ordered the chicken kebabs with rice and roasted vegetables. It was fresh and delicious.
