Stopped by here on my way to the airport. I was very happy to see Vietnamese food because I had spent several days Independence and there really wasn't any options for much Asian food in general. This place is a little mom and pop shop that was very welcoming from the time I walked in. I was greeted by an older gentleman who possibly could have been one of the owners- he welcomed me immediately and was very hospitable, helping me navigate their menu which had a good variety of rice, noodles and soup plus plenty of appetizers. They also sold a lot of Asian groceries; coffee, ramen and even clothes. You could tell the restaurant had been there a while and there seemed to be a lot of regulars; I could tell from the conversations they had with the owners/workers. The waiter, I believe was also one of the owners who was an older lady but very busy cleaning, waiting and maneuvering around the restaurant. She was also very friendly and apologized about the delay and said there wasn't many people who wanted to work these days, so she was the one doing most things. I didn't think they took longer than any other restaurant- I got charbroiled chicken with rice and pickled veggies and a side of egg rolls. The chicken was really good and very flavorful and hit the spot for my Vietnamese craving! I would definitely try this place again when I return. Stopped in here for a quick bite. Never tried this place before despite it being close to home but I'm glad we checked it out. We ordered the dac biet banh mi and pork egg rolls. Both came out fresh and hot. The banh mi was flavorful and packed with meat, jalapenos and pickled veggies. They did not skimp on the ingredients. It was a nice portion. Not too big or too small and the bread was soft and warm but still had a nice crunch. The pork egg rolls were also quite good and came out super hot. Wish there was a little bit more meat in them but still very flavorful. The only con is the restaurant was super hot inside. I think their AC is busted because they had a fan turned on instead. I'll admit it--I used to be intimidated by Vietnamese food when I was younger. But years ago, I decided to dive in, and I haven't regretted it since! This is such a cute, quaint spot tucked away in a little strip in Gladstone. Not only is the food amazing, but the store also sells lots of beautiful items--definitely worth browsing while you wait. I've tried quite a few dishes here. The pho is delicious--so comforting and flavorful. But my all-time favorite has to be the Bún bì chả giò. It's such a burst of amazing flavors in every bite. You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Their sandwiches (banh mi) are also fantastic, and I especially love their egg rolls--they remind me of lumpia, which I absolutely adore. Well I found a new favorite place for my Pho. Meatball was favored well, the shrimp are large and de-shelled, and broth is seasoned to be an excellent base. I like try the soup before adding chili and hoisin sauce, and it gives a good idea of their broth prep. Great ambiance for a hole in the wall location, not too much seating but no issues during Sunday lunch. Service was great. Only negative: they don't have fountain sodas. I'm not a fan of canned drinks. No Sriracha but there is a shortage and no need to raise the prices. read more

When Pho House closed in Excelsior I was heartbroken. The Pho Dac Biet and pork egg rolls were my favorites. This was supposed to be their other restaurant so I was happy to travel 40+ mins to get my fix. But man I don't know what happened. This was nothing like Pho House. The pho had a solid half inch of beef fat floating on top, I couldn't taste the pho spice or cilantro at all - it tastes like a really dirty unskimmed broth. The pork egg rolls have a very gritty texture inside and the dipping vinegar has no zing. I really liked the guy who owned Pho House and some of his food was fantastic but beyond disappointed with this "sister" restaurant. read more

Very disappointed in the food and service. You order at the counter and as soon as you pull out a debit or credit card the man asked if I have cash. I'm assuming they are not reporting all of the business they do for tax purposes. It would have been nice to get a glass with ice for our soda rather than drinking it out of the can. Anytime you need something you have to go back to the counter instead of someone coming to the table. The Crab Rangoon was burnt and no filling inside. I went to the counter to ask for new Crab Rangoon and the second time it was burnt more and again no filling. It was like the filling fell out of it once it was over cooked. The restaurant does not look clean and half of it looks like a thrift store. I will not be back and do not recommend this place. The photos on Yelp of the inside of the restaurant are very old and it looks nothing like that once you walk in. This is definitely a northland hidden gem! You could easily drive past it and not even know. However you'd regret it because the food is amazing!! When We arrived we were promptly greeted by one of the owners! He was so sweet and immediately put the charm on us. He told us the place was owned by him and his wife and they made everything from scratch! They make their own Pho broth and boil the bones for 9+ hours. WOW...talk about dedication and passion. Shortly after this, the second owner (the wife) came over to take our order. She suggested we start with spring rolls and we happily obliged. We also ordered crab ragoon and some Pho! None of it was a disappointment!!! The spring rolls were a little different from what I'm usually accustomed to but they were still delicious. My husband introduced me to this restaurant a couple years ago - it remains one of my favorites. Pho is a bowl full of yummy broth, noodles, meats, and veggies. This pho is perfect. Not overly salty or spicy. Just right. The servings are huge! I always have a little left over. I love their spring rolls and peanut sauce. The spring rolls have wonderful portions of noodles, lettuce and meat (pork and shrimp). You must also try the crab Rangoon. Crunchy, seasoned well, and served with yummy duck sauce. The service here is always wonderful. The shop owners are kind and will make friendly conversation with you. They will not serve if you arrive 12 minutes before their published business hours. Yes I understand it is close to their closing time but if you say you are open until 8, you should serve until 8. Sucks. As I sat in the parking lot writing this negative review in the parking lot, the young lady who had turned me away came out to my truck and invited me back in to dine. She was sweet and apologetic. The business hours on Yelp shows 8pm as a closing time but they explained that they stop taking dine in orders at 7:30. No business hours are posted on the door or window. Yelp showed them closing at 8:00. Anyway, I got food and it was yummy. The owner was kind and her daughter again apologized. I'm still going to give this place a five because the food is amazing, but it just feels like the whole vibe has changed. Did someone buy into this place and make changes? It's overly bright, the front looks weird now, there's no music- so it feels EXTRA awkward when you dine in.... I can hear the people at the other table eating, and I hate mouth noises. I don't know who is making all of these changes, but it's feeling less and less like a mom and pop place and more like a door dash haven :( The grandma isn't even out serving anymore- it's just weird. My return visit to My Xuyen was a complete turn-around from my 1st visit 6 months prior. My wife and I decided we wanted Pho on a cold New Years Day evening, and found them to be open. I ordered the sliced beef and meatball pho and it was extremely tasty - great broth and plenty of meat and noodles. I once again ordered spring rolls and they were much improved from the meager ones they served in June. The best improvement was the service, instead of some kids that didn't care, I had a great waitress, with assistance from another courteous server and an owner that strolled thru checking on our experience. It's always great to add a star to a review because of marked improvements in product and service. My next visit will be much sooner than 6 months this time. read more

Spring rolls- lettuce, one slice of pork, half shrimp. Portion of spring roll was one regular size wrap, cut 2 ways, and was counted as 2 spring rolls. $9 for six....... The broth was just.... Bad. Over seasoned, not even the semblance of bone any where in what was clearly a pre-boxed beef broth, tossed with saffron, and other random Spice. I digress. This is more of a 2.5 stars than a 3 stars. I just got done with my appointment and I saw some decorations (banners) and it looked like a new place that just open up. Decided to try this place out since it was lunch time with my mother. When we went in, there was several other customers already enjoying their food. I thought this might be good if there's a good crowd at this time of day. But I was wrong, the service and food was not as good as I anticipated. We looked around to see if we were to wait to be seated or not. After standing around looking lost for the first 3 minutes with no welcome, we just found a table and sat right down for our self. Took us 15 minutes to get a menu and some water for us. Then another 30 minutes to get our order in and then we had to wait for some more time to get the food to our table. Mind you we were very hungry and it was almost 2PM. Once the food did arrive, we was expecting the food to look delicious, however the pho came out super oily and the broth was dark, the flavor was not full of good aroma from the meat bones and the rare steak looked like it was cut by a wood chipper. Some too big, too thick or too small. My mother was so disappointed with her Pho Bo Tai and she didn't like the taste of it either. She said it didn't taste as authentic like other Pho places around KC. As for my dish, I had the meatballs with the Banh Mi. It's called Banh Mi Xiu Mai. To be honest, the meatballs with the broth was small for my liking cause I had more bread left. Just only 2 meatballs. The meatballs didn't taste that flavorful, it lacks some season. I know this place is just new, but it wasn't that great to start off with the poor service and food wasn't that spectacular. We left still feeling hungry and confused why the services and food didn't fulfill us up.The banh mi (bread) is the only thing that I can say is good and how it should be for a banquette. This place was disgusting. It was my first time visiting. Let me start with the tables. There was no siracha sauce or any other sauces you see at other Vietnamese restaurants. I asked the waiter for the sauce and he said sorry we are out. The salt and pepper was dirty and sticky to the touch. I ordered spring rolls and when we took a bite they smell bad . I ordered the shrimp rolls, they had big pieces of onions in them not good at all. We also ordered the combination pho the worst I've had. The bean sprouts were brown and wilted, the few pieces of cilantro they brought were rotten and we found a piece of plastic wrapping in the soup. I brought the plate with all the gross stuff to the counter and showed him what he brought was not acceptable to be served and all he said was sorry. I do not recommend this place. It's dirty, the food tastes really bad and service, well there is no good service. read more

Service was way too slow and they're clearly severely understaffed. Had to wait 25 mins between our getting in the door and getting our order taken. Waited another 20 mins to get our food?! Unacceptable :-( Tons of Vietnamese options... I'm hoping this is not a regular occurrence at this place because the other reviews are good. Maybe COVID made it hard to staff? The food was very good though, the sampler appetizer had all of the Vietnamese street food classics as you can see in my photo. My girlfriend really wanted to take me to this place because she loved it... past tense. I was really excited too. The spring roll as an appetizer was phenomenal, but that was about the only good thing about the place. For dinner she ordered chicken curry and within 2 bites she started choking on a bone fragment. She ended up throwing up in the bathroom and we had no luck getting it out. She was able to breathe, but could feel the bone lodged in her throat. Still panicked, but able to breathe, we asked for a refund to which the lady responded "well, chicken have bones". That is an absolutely abysmal response especially after they watched her choke in the restaurant. Chicken have bones yes, but there should not be loose shards in the meal. We will never eat here again. Some of the food is good, but the service is atrocious. Now with the bone shard still in her throat we are spending our night in the ER. Ordered takeout Tuesday 9/3/2023 through Uber eats delivery was fine and food was warm. When I got here however, my chicken Fried rice was burnt. The chicken had crispy on all ends and was super dry. The rice had burnt rice in it. The only thing that had moisture was the onions, which also had burns on the end however, it was the only thing wet in the dish everything was so dry. I tried to just suck it up and eat it, but could not without choking on the dryness probably won't order from here again. Not even sure how this was approved to go out the door. read more

I hate leaving bad reviews, so I usually don't. Restaurants have a hard enough time surviving. But if this was my first time having pho, I'd have a difficult time trying it again, instead of the slight pho obsession I currently have. I'm not going to review the service, because they have none. The one star is for food only. We had the crab rangoon, spring rolls, beef pho, and the beef/beef ball pho. Spring rolls were average with a peanut sauce that had very little flavor. The "homemade" rangoon was out of the freezer section. But that doesn't matter, this is a pho place. The broth was not good. The beef was boiled small pieces of rubber. The noodles were even off. The herb plate had some wilted parsley, bean sprouts some jalapeño slices, and lime. I could hardly eat it and stopped about a quarter of the way through. This place was a huge disappointment. From the customer service to the food, everything was just crappy. I don't understand how the restaurant only have two tables but yet took nearly 45 mins to an hour to get our food. Better yet, we had no one coming around checking on us or giving reassurance that our food will be out shortly. 45 mins later, the food that we were waiting for was so bad that I only took one bite and left it.
