I'm so happy to say RENOVA ENERGY IS BACK!! Our solar project was caught in the pause in business, necessary as a consequence of the SunPower failure. We were within a week of the start of construction of our solar system when the pause was announced and were concerned that our project might not be completed. Our project was scheduled to begin on 11/24/24 and today our system was activated!! Renova has assembled an incredible installation team in Alberto T, Brian R, Nick M and Elias C. They were always prompt, courteous and made the installation as painless and quick as was possible. Their work is first rate and minimized visible conduit (at my special request!). Alberto Knowledgeably helped me load, set up and navigate the Enphase and Tesla battery apps and made certain I was comfortable with the system before we ended our final meeting. I'm very detail oriented (to put it mildly) and did all my research. If you're installing solar in the Coachella Valley, go with Renova. Mick Kaylor was an absolute star, walking me through the process and answering all my annoying questions. He was responsive and moved quickly. He was available after hours, and even came by on his birthday to teach me how to use the app, because that's when I was in town. Total white glove VIP service. I'm not exaggerating, the WHOLE job took less than 2 months, counting from the first day I texted Mick until the entire system was approved and operational. Truly amazing. City permitting delays were my biggest fear, but because they're based locally and have done so many jobs here, Renova has the connections to fast track it. They had the materials in stock, and didn't try to push me into any particular brands; I felt free to choose based on my own research. I have a Spanish tile roof, so I needed a ton of re-roofing before we could install panels. Another major advantage of Renova is that they have the roofing team in-house, so I didn't have to worry about coordinating schedules, or about two companies pointing fingers at each other if something goes wrong. As far as I can tell they didn't break any tiles or do any other damage. Having just finished a major multi-year renovation, I was very concerned about aesthetics, and I'm actually surprised how good the "picture framing" looks; the solar array is installed so flush with the tiles that you can't see any brackets, and you can't even tell that there aren't Spanish tiles under the array. It's all seamless, it looks like they just laid the panels flat on the existing tile roof. Unfortunately all the component boxes and conduit are kinda ugly and "industrial" looking, but there's no avoiding that, it is what it is, and they did the best they could to route things how I requested to be as non-ugly as possible, and they did a great job painting the conduit on the roof to match the color of the tiles and trim. Overall I'm very pleased with Renova, especially Mick Kaylor, and would highly recommend them! read more

A SOLAR RANT AND WARNING : If you are debating between Renova Energy and Hot Purple Energy on a solar purchase DON'T go Renova. I bought 8 years ago and Renova was so accommodating and pleasant -- even giving me a tour of their facility and then once they got their $40k they basically say well "now you're on your own." Some panels are not producing as well as others and Renova wants to charge to come out and look. My EOY settlement charge with SCE went from $50 in 2023 to $2,100 in 2024!! Why?? Likely panel issues but Renova charges to do an energy production/ consumption evaluation as well. Like an airline nickel and dime with precision. I was a HUGE Renova supporter and satisfied customer until now-- referred several peple to them. Ask questions prior and make an informed/educated decision .... My 2 cents ( which Renova likely wants). Surprised I wasn't charged to call them up or to email them ... (See me glowing review of them years ago ). Things have definitely changed. ! read more

Buyer Beware after install and payment made to Renova in the 6 digits $$$, Installed system 8 months ago. 13 panels have been out ( not producing energy) for 6 weeks, no notice from Sun power or Renova. Discovered this when checking the Sun Power App. Sun Power does not alert you to a problem, you are responsible for checking your application " My Solar" daily. Called Renova 6 days ago for help, told they can not come to help until they receive written approval from Sun Power ( manufacturer) and "good luck with that", it will take weeks. " If you don't hear back from Sun Power in 2 weeks, call us back ". Renova installed 29 solar panels and 2 sunvault batteries. The system was expertly designed such i can be off the grid even during peak times. During off peak i am sending power to the grid. We recently had an issue with the operation of the batteries which became complicated with the the sunpower bankruptcy etc. True to his cafe chats (which are posted on youtube and facebook), I was easily able to contact Vincent Battaglia, the CEO, who stepped in immediately and was able to resolve my issue. I would have given Renova a five star review except for our extreme dissatisfaction with their roofing department. The solar installation and subsequent performance of the solar system (it was installed over one year ago) was, and is very good. Since we have a clay tile roof, if it was necessary for their roofing department to remove the clay tiles to allow installation of the solar panels. We had an existing pool solar water heating system on a flat roof, which is adjacent to the clay tile roof, and not visible from our yard. It wasn't until much later than we learned that the roofers had thrown broken tiles onto the pool solar panels, destroying most of them. In addition to that, they broke several clay tiles that did not have to be removed and created several other visual problems which later had to be repaired. Interestingly, when they had finished the roofing job, the roofers pressured us to do a five star Yelp review and we did so, not knowing all the problems they had created. Beware of people who pressure you about doing a great review. read more

We had Renova setup and install our solar. It was during Covid so things moved very slow but...they finally installed it. I just had an electrical engineer to the house and he was baffled they did not upgrade the panel for the Solar. Now I am completely limited on adding a car charger. I was told that it was Renova's responsibility to up the size of the panel. They did not. I called them several times and they did not call back even once. I also called about their solar panel cleaning service and again, they did not return even one call. Unfortunately I would say educate yourself or do not use this company. Sad. read more

Not happy with follow up service from Renova. Since the Sun Power collapse, I have gotten mixed messages from different people at Renova about service and never a call back. I was quoted a price of $200 for a service call then when I tried to set it up, I was told the service person who quoted the price was fired and the new price for a service call was $400. About 15 years ago, I had a solar system put on my roof by a company which since went out of business about the time my system stopped functioning well. Finally, after a couple of years of poor performance, I thought about getting a new system put in. Neighbors recommended Renova, as they were putting in Renova systems themselves. A friend told me to contact Johnny Colodonato as the best person to discuss a new system. Johnny was knowledgeable, responsive, and just a great guy who made my installation and everything to do with Renova go super smoothly. I had lots of questions, and he not only answered them but explained how the process and the pricing worked and said to contact him whenever I wanted to know anything else. I texted him a number of times during the process, and each time he was right back to me with answers or suggestions. I have had numerous projects done over the years, and I can say without hesitation that Johnny Colodonato at Renova was the most exceptional "point man" I have ever worked with. The Renova solar system is working extremely well, my electric bill has gone from sky high to almost zero, and if anything ever is amiss, all I need to do is contact Johnny for immediate service. read more

I had Renova install solar panels on my home, in Palm Desert, approximately a year ago. FOUR times I've had this problem: the electricity on the side of the home that is supposed to stay on, even in an outage, has gone out. No local outage just my one side. Had guys come out twice and they said that something was tripping the breaker that was using a heavy load????? This is the section that I specifcally asked to have stay on but an appliance would cause it to go out? I have said repeatedly that I think the breaker is bad. Our solar system required extensive software and hardware checks/upgrades which required 4 follow up visits as well as a replacement of a faulty communication cable. Renova tech staff spent 10 plus hours on site trouble shooting our system. The real positive, our system appears to be working now. Renova in cooperation with SunStrong completed the repair. Renova charged me a flat $400.00 for this service, not charging for the additional time they required. I upgraded my review from 1 star to 4 stars (Good). Reasoning: Positive - I appreciate having my $70,000.00 8 month old solar system working again. I have faith that Renova/Sunstrong will be available if I should have a repair requirement again. I had Renova install solar panels about seven years ago. I bought and did not lease . Supposedly there was a 25 year warranty on my solar panels . One panel stopped working and now I'm being told 'Sorry, since the bankruptcy .. the warranty is no longer valid. Only customers who leased the equipment could have the warranty.. Renova Energy has not been able to hook up our very expensive Sunpower back-up batteries since Sunpower declared bankruptcy. To their credit, they sent two technicians who were unsuccessful. We then asked if they would be willing to work with us price-wise to install new Tesla back-up batteries. Bottom line...Renova's price was as much if not more than the three other quotes we received. That added insult to injury! We tried to be fair with Renova. We called many times to speak with Vince but, alas, he was always "in a meeting." read more

Edit: I realized that the 1-star rating was a bit extreme, considering that Renova has yet to install our system, so I'm upping this to a two-star based on the service we have received to this point and will consider additional edits after install. Engagement: We reached out to Renova Energy on March 21 for a bid on installing solar in our Palm Springs home. At the time we were told about the timeline for NEM2 (April 14), so we moved really quickly to make that date. We applied and were approved for financing on April 4 and our agreement signed with SunPower on the same day. At this time we were given a tentative schedule; i.e. - targeting May 5 for permits, with a June install date for our $60+K system. Our Energy Consultant was very attentive and knowledgeable. We felt heard and were sold on what they could deliver - No complaints. Post Application: We were a bit concerned that we received a Utility Interconnection Agreement on April 14 (NEM2 filing deadline), which was signed virtually within minutes. Not sure why this wasn't part of our package when we submitted everything on the 4th. We didn't think anything of this - thinking that as they were going through the paperwork for submission, they noted a missing form. On May 9, I reached out to our Energy Consultant to see if there were any updates on obtaining the permits - Nearly ONE MONTH after we submitted our paperwork and we were told that "we did not make the NEM2 deadline with your application". We were told "You did everything correctly. Renova just could not process all the paperwork fast enough." At no time were we told that we were too late in filing or that there was a chance that our application wouldn't be submitted in time. We later learned that they they hadn't even submitted our application to SCE yet. While Renova never promised that our application would be submitted in time to make the NEM2 deadline, they also never informed us there was a change that we wouldn't only informed us of such nearly a month past the deadline date. Not getting our application in before the April 14 deadline for NEM2 is going to cost us - significantly. In addition to the severely reduced the buy-back rate under NEM2, our estimated monthly bill went from $16/month to $153/month, for a total savings of $275/month vs. the $430/month we would have had with NEM2. It also means that it will take nearly 15 years to recoup our costs vs. the 5-6 years it would have taken under NEM2 pricing. Renova's attempt to "make it right" was to upgrade our panels, which they were required to do anyways since they couldn't deliver on the panels from the initial design (equal or greater value). This allowed them to reduce the total cost by about $5K because the greater power of the new panels meant we could reduce the number of panels required. Should we have engaged earlier - yup, we should have; however, the house was not eligible for the tax credit because it was a short term rental until December and then was on the market for sale until the end of March. As soon as that changed, we immediately engaged Renova. We are now hearing that it will be 6+ months for permitting and install, meaning we will have another summer of super-high electric bills. We made the decision to continue with Renova as there is no going backward and getting NEM2 pricing and our previous interactions, personal recommendations, and public reviews all indicate that Renova is the best in the desert. For now, we continue to wait for PSP to approve permits and Renova to schedule the install. Sheduling/Install - Will update this review again when this takes place. read more

Our first experience with Renova was with Barbara Jennings, the sales rep that came to meet with us. While she was explaining the system, there was another representative on the roof physically examining the proposed installation area. Renova worked closely with our HOA management company to get architectural approval and the necessary city permit. The installation was a 3 day process and went very smoothly. The work was overseen by Jesus Chavez, the construction manager. He even gave us his personal cell number if there were any issues. Crew #4 did the actual work and they were very efficient and professional. They showed up on time and left the work site clean and orderly each day. We got our first statement two weeks after the installation and we already had a $30 credit. There have been a number of solar installations by Renova in our gated community and it is evident how organized Renova is. I heartily recommend them! read more

Worst experience ever! The bankruptcy in the middle of my install has delayed any maintenance on his new system that was put in by Renova. I would not recommend this company at all. Sun strong took over the contract and there has been zero communication with trying to get my system functioning again. I would not recommend Renova or sun strong. I have been paying my monthly lease on a system that is not functioning and I cannot get anyone to get out to fix my problem. Just be aware that once you sign a contract, you don't know who you will actually end up getting to manage your system, even though Renova represents itself as being the ones who will be managing your account. Three months after they finished the job I still don't have permission to operate from edison because they didn't submit correctly. Still waiting for them to replace faulty solar panels that are defective and three months later still no cleaning as promised. The experience with then was beyond awful and they are well aware of it. For 4 months now I have asked to have the owner of the company to contact me about the numerous problems. No. He can't be bothered. Do your self a favor, go with someone else. Beyond frustrated with Renova's customer service to my system's issues. Been waiting over 2 weeks just to make an appointment for the privilege of paying $200 for a service call to see why the breaker they installed in my box keeps tripping and disabling my system- which is costing me hundreds of dollars in solar generation every time it happens. Happened last summer and they checked it and their tech said the breaker was fine. Now it's happened 3 times this month during peak solar generation season. $50k system is less than 2 years old. Called and emailed, was promised an email to schedule an appointment (for $200) that never came. And the rep on the phone made sure to tell me that if I have anyone else work on the breaker it will void my service warranty- so I'm basically held hostage by the indifference of a business that is ignoring me. Feels like they could care less once your system is installed and they've got your money. All I want is for my system to work and for the customer care and service I was promised when they were selling it to me. read more

I must say I was extremely impressed by the professionalism and expertise demonstrated by Construction Manager Angel and installer Erine throughout the entire process. From our initial consultation, Angel took the time to thoroughly understand my energy needs and goals for going solar. He provided a detailed proposal outlining the recommended system size, projected output, and estimated cost savings. Angel was readily available via phone and email in the weeks leading up to the installation date to answer any additional questions. When it came time for the installation, Erine and his crew arrived on schedule as promised. I could tell right away that Erine and his team were highly skilled solar technicians. They worked efficiently while maintaining a clean and organized worksite. Best of all, the entire installation was completed within the estimated timeframe with no disruptions or issues. Back in May, Erin (I did not get his last name) came out to do the annual solar cleaning. He discovered that roof paint had smeared on many of my panels. I am grateful to Erin for his diligence in ensuring my panels are in great condition. A month later, Kelly Hall kindly came at 7 AM to remove the roof paint. He spent a considerable amount of time under the hot sun without complaining or taking breaks despite the summer heat. When we went up to look at the panels, we were impressed by Kelly's fantastic work. We truly appreciate his dedication to quality and service.
