I don't often write reviews for non-restaurant establishments, but I had such a great experience at My Eye Dr. on Randolph Road yesterday that I had to jump on here and let others know about it!!! I previously went to another eye doctor in town and was trying to request a new appointment - ended up sitting on hold for 20+ minutes and gave up. A coworker raved about her experience with My Eye Dr., so I decided to look them up online. Within five minutes, I was scheduled for an appointment just a few days in advance and was able to fill out all of my paperwork online. I was even able to shift the appointment time the day before - great mobile experience. They have ample parking behind their building on Randolph, and the staff are super friendly. In less than an hour, I was able to have my exam (both the measuring portion with NO dilation as well as the doctor portion to update my prescription) and purchase my new contact lenses up front (the eye care consultant I worked with was amazing - she priced checked my brand and saved me $100 for the year!). I am so pleased with this office and its convenient location - this is absolutely my new eye doctor going forward! read more

After an eye exam where the doctor participated remotely which is super weird, the Local MyEyeDr staff would not submit the insurance claim as they insisted I did not have insurance for the exam and frames/glasses. Only after several days of back and forth with them and my insurance carrier did they finally admit that yes I had insurance, Big hazel with their terrible staff. Then since I did have insurance covering part of the cost for frames/glasses they tried to increase the price of my frames/glasses by 35% because I had insurance. They are nothing but crooks. Just visited the Ballantyne, Charlotte, NC location, turned up 20 minutes early, and checked with the receptionist that the Dr. Washington was running on time. Quickly went to shop next door, and returned at 11:55am for my 12:00 appointment. Finally got seen at 12:10, and was told they were running an hour behind!! This is the first time I had ever been to a my eye dr and will be the last!!!! I was told by John Wilson the general manager that they do diabetic eye exams I was not dilated at all by the end of my appointment and picking out glasses they charged me over $900. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I'm pretty unhappy with the contact lens training.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] After reviewing my bill, contact lens training is 20 bucks. It's still too much for watching a video on MyEyeDr's youtube page while staff tells me how easy it (putting contacts in) is. Initially, I thought it was 60 - but 40 was towards other services. I'm a little less annoyed - but still pretty sour that I actually paid for that experience. UPDATE: So, I went back tonight (four or five days after my initial visit.) Honestly, I've gone back and forth over my initial review. Originally it was much longer, more detailed, and but I thought I was being unfairly biased/negative. I don't think that's the case after my return visit tonight. Now i need to find a new provider. This location will stay busy because of it's convenient location, but the customer service/problem resolution is sorely lacking. They made me angrier tonight - all of this is unnecessary, unforced errors on their part. I really wanted the individualized attention and guidance I saw someone else receive this evening, but it just seems like it's not meant to be. Now I'm going to have to wait an entire calendar year to try with a different provider or pay out of pocket for an eye exam because our schedules/availabilities don't align. I had my exam and bought my very expensive glasses here, and, when they became too loose within a few months, I brought them in to be tightened. They told me they "couldn't tighten them" and sent me to a repair shop where I was charged for the "fix." They had the guy's name and number handy next to the register, as if this were common. [[HIGHLIGHT]]One of the reasons I went there was the personal touch missing from big box stores, however they failed dismally and did not live up to the promise they made to stand by their work and product. And it cost me money.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] And while the store aesthetic isn't important to me, it's worth noting that, in my opinion, the carpet, exam rooms, and much of the equipment was worn and not clean looking. There was a strong smell of mildew. And someone had broken into the place a few days prior, and there was police tape and broken windows and doors along the front of the building. Not inviting. I am a long time patient of Dr. Sheffer. He is extremely knowledgeable and is able to answer all my questions. I will continue to see him as my ophthalmologist. HOWEVER, on yesterday I went in to pick up new glasses that I was told were ready. These were transition lenses put into new frames. I was assisted by the same tall young man that helped me pick the frames out initially. I watched him through the mirror, walk pass me a few times before he came over to help. He never greeted me. He just asked for my name. When he handed the glasses to me, he asked me to try them on. I immediately realized I could not see out of them. The prescription was placed so far at the bottom of the lenses that I'd have to raise the glasses or tilt my head upward and back just to see out of them. I explained this to the young man. He tried his best to be patient but he seemed annoyed and was adamant that I wasn't holding them correctly to see out of them. (As if I'm supposed to adjust any reading material to accommodate the glasses' defect). Then I remembered when I was seen by him, he helped me pick them out but when I was seated he never asked me to put them on and make marks on them to gauge where my eye level is so the prescription would be placed correctly. I reminded him of that. So he reached for a marker, placed the measurements on the lenses asked me to remove them. He said they'd have to redo the lenses and I'd have to come back in 2 weeks or so to pick them up again. A simple, I apologize for my error or even the error would have been appreciated. The fact that he was so condescending in the way he assumed I was doing something wrong since I couldn't see out of them and it couldn't possibly be an error on his part. Then to find out the prescription wasn't filled correctly showed poor customer service in my opinion. If it wasn't for the excellent service I received from Dr Sheffer and the rest of the staff there over the years, I'd never return. This young man needs coaching. There are hundreds of optometrist available to SELL glasses and when a loyal customer patronizes your establishment it should be appreciated. Without customers your business could turn into a thing of the past. I hope he reads this review and works to self improvement. read more

[[HIGHLIGHT]]the receptionist simply replied "we send several notices". I asked could she please fit us in since we were there and had arranged to take off work to be there at the same time. She said no,70 we have no openings[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I found that very hard to believe and her demeanor was curt and unhelpful. she wasn't going to do anything to assist, even though there was no one in the waiting room.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]my husband said we'll just reschedule, she said nothing, like can I help you with that, nothing.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]customer service is just a thing of the past i guess.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] we went somewhere else to get our exams and glasses. they just lost two customers. I guess no one cares. Update - this appears to be the Randolph Rd location. My review was specific to the Fort Mill, 29708 location. Cleanliness seems to be optional at the Randolph Rd location. The optometrist's assistant's room was dirty. He had used tissues left out on the patient's side of the table, smelled of cigarette smoke and didn't clean the face "holder", he also had dirty nails. When I went into an additional room for a second exam, I had to ask him to clean the machine. There was make up all over it. The chairs we were also worn out (I can handle this, but the visual didn't help considering the other things). They took me in 25 minutes after the scheduled time and the doctor failed to introduce herself. All of this is "recoverable" but I can't get over how dirty it was. On the positive side, the front desk staff was very nice and the woman who checked me out was also nice and professional. read more

I never leave poor reviews but this is now the second time I've been in a bind and this business basically has an f-you, you're out of luck policy. They do send reminder messages to order refills when you're running out. I'm sure it's common to all of us with how many spam messages are out there now and a lot get ignored between our busy days. I thought I had another box of contacts and I don't, and my glasses are out of date. I ordered a 6 month supply when I ordered them because contacts are expensive. Was never told the ONLY way they'll help you out in a pinch if you accidentally run out is if you bought the year supply. Otherwise the ones they have are strictly for current patients. I get that they need to ensure they have what they need for today's patients, but only being willing to help a current patient out if they spent more money, and say that's one of the incentives? I'm confused - so you don't care at all about your patients, just what they spend? read more

I have always enjoyed going to the Randolph location until this year. They couldn't get my lenses right, even though they should've been exactly like the ones from the previous year (besides the updated prescription). They decided amongst themselves to put a cheaper version, and it went downhill from there. Back into my old pair..... They did correct with more expensive lenses (as I could literally see the little tiny number markers in the lens), just like my previous pair. Said they weren't going to charge me for the correction, but did. Then I had issues with the frames. Fast forward to 5 months later, and I'm back in my old pair as I took my glasses for the frames to be tweaked near my ears. How they CRACKED my lenses, I'll never understand. I haven't even told them, I am so over all the issues I've had with them. I definitely will NOT be back to that location. Never. Again. As paid over $500 to wear them for less than 2 months TOTAL. read more

He has stories, jokes, and answers to all the questions I had. I asked, jokingly, Why is 20/20 the goal? Why can't you give me 10/10? or 0/0? I don't know if you know this but as the Doc explained - if he did that it would mean that I would have to accept the tights, the cape, and wear an outfit with a letter in the middle. I aksed, "Can I have 2 letters? F & U?" hahahaha. I now can see! I mean, I didn't get the superhero vision, but I can see everything! (oooh....I need to do some cleaning. hahaha) My vision has never been this good after a visit and that is amazing. This is the absolute worst place to get vision care. I had to go to three Drs' in one location on S. Tryon, & two of the Drs' had different scripts. So out of three doctors, I had two different scripts?!! Then my daughter goes there a month ago. She was having issues ordering online contacts with her script. [[HIGHLIGHT]]She calls S. Tryon location; they don't show a prescription for her! They refer her to different locations that she's never been to, they say the Dr is working at those locations at the time.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]They have no better advice for my her. None of the locations could get her script for her and have the nerve to act like they didn't even do an exam. We were getting ready to contact the insurance company. Don't ever go here! In February I went to a routine visit and they gave me special codes, claiming it was a medical visit, even though they sent me to Horizon Clinic for the medical exam, and they charged my health insurance company for a lie. What a blatant way to rip off. read more

I bumped up the star rating from 2 to 3! I went for an eye test which went WONDERFUL with the doctor. Right after the test, I felt so rushed to pick up a frame and PAY PAY PAY because of this one sales associate there who does billing, that I ended up not buying the glasses there. My partner also felt rushed and ended up spending $$$ on a frame which she didn't exactly love. So I called them and cancelled her order through a treacherous process but I'm glad they did that and that's why the bump in star rating from 2 to 3. I'd suggest the staff to look into this matter and make the customers feel more comfortable after the test because that is when they are vulnerable to spend and would prefer a better sales experience. It saddens me that I have to write anotjer negative review in two years. I have been a patient since this practice was called Eyeoptix, this was way over 25 plus years ago. I decided to give them another chance since I have been coming for so long. BIG mistake! Honestly, I just love Dr. Sheffer, hr really takes care of his patients, too bad the overall office doesn't seem to care. I ordered new glasses December 26, 2022 and was told they would b e back January 5th. Here it is a week later no glasses no phone call like Wendy in the front office told me someone would three days ago. I'm gravely disappointed with the treatment I have received again. I prefer this location over the uptown one. Parking is free and easy and directly behind the building. This location also has a great variety of frames and friendly staff. I was helped by Victoria and she was awesome! She answered all my questions about everything I had and even helped narrow down my selection of eyeglasses and sunglasses to purchase. Such bad service! Spent eight hundred dollars on new lens and asked them to put them in my current frames which were a year old and in perfect shape. When I got them back the nose guard was missing. I found it in the bag removed from the frame. When I asked them to fix the nose guard they said no because I didn't buy the frame from them. I called customer service and they said they would fix it for me but needed to order parts. Heard nothing back for months! Now I still don't have usable glasses and I've used up my vision insurance for the year. Please never do business with this place!!!! You've been warned!!! read more

I originally started coming to this location for my routine vision checks since it's considered in- network with my insurance. I continue coming here because the doctors are SO thorough with the eye exam and because the staff is friendly. Both the receptionist/check in area and the rooms are clean. I see Dr. Sheffer and think that he is wonderful! I found the scheduling process for an appointment very easy and was able to find an appointment that was convenient for me. Keep in mind that I called to schedule this appointment a couple of days ago. I like this practice because they have extended hours a couple of nights during the week and they are open Saturdays. Parking is not an issue. My appointment was at 5pm. I arrived 10 minutes early, they verified my vision coverage, had me complete a couple of forms and called me back right before 5pm. Today was the first time that I've purchased glasses here because in general I usually purchase contacts only. I have to say I felt that there was the right amount of associates to patient ratio in the frame section. All of the associates acknowledged the patients but never seemed pushy to make a sale or rush us to make a decision. Sophia assisted me with my frame/glasses purchase today. She was nice and I felt that she was very genuine with her opinion on the frames that I picked out when I asked her. When I had a question on cost of lenses, she was very knowledgeable in their prices and options. This is a poorly run location who doesn't honor appointment times. If you make an appointment, show up at least 15 minutes early because you may be stuck waiting in a waiting area without enough chairs for everyone. There is poor communication and a major lack of level setting expectations. 30 minutes after my scheduled appointment time and I am still waiting. read more

Although Dr. Suggs was amazing ie very professional and very knowledgeable. The front desk staff at Myeyedr.on South Tryon, however, misinformed me that my exam would be free through the insurance that I had but when the exam was over, they then said it was not. What is the point of providing insurance information online prior to the appointment and having an in-depth conversation with the front office staff before the exam, if if they were not going to check the insurance prior to the visit and only rely on what they read on the Internet. Extremely unprofessional and I do not feel good about being scammed out of $99 today. read more

Start to finish an amazing experience. Everyone there is extremely knowledgeable and personable. The only negative is the selection of frames. Too conservative for my taste. But my technician , Victoria found a pair of sunglasses that could be made with regular lenses. I told her what I was looking for and she nailed it on the first try. Problem solved! I went to the independence location for my appointment that I scheduled 2 weeks ago. I received emails and texts confirming and reminding me of my appointment. I remember thinking how on the ball they were. When I showed up they told me it was canceled. I told them obviously there has been a mistake. They told me I could reschedule. I had to take time off work so I mentioned since it wasn't my mistake how would I be compensated. They said a manager would contact me about that in 20 minutes. I didn't get a call. Not surprised. I know things happen. Why couldn't they have squeezed me in, I was just getting and eye exam. Even an apology would have counted for something. I'm very disappointed in the level of service and how they handled the situation. I have businesses in Charlotte that cater to family's and I will be sure to tell as many people as possible about the level of service at this place. read more

Fun fact: 6 out of 10 people in the developed world wear eyeglasses and/or contact lenses. I'm one of those 6 people and most of my vision needs have been met by MyEyeDr. Key word: "Most" .... They're my go-to for exams. Both contacts and glasses. I like that there's several locations within Charlotte so it shouldn't be too hard to get the appointment you want if you're flexible on location. The Randolph Road facility is pretty decent (good equipment, clean premises, etc.) and the staff are friendly and accommodating overall. I also go to MyEyeDr for glasses adjustments and repair. They fixed two of frames in a jiffy and had me out the door in less than 15 minutes. What I haven't used them for is purchasing my actual contacts and glasses. I get mine elsewhere or online. The frames are usually a little bit pricier but you can confirm that on your own. Just grab the model number on the glasses you try on and search Google. read more
