I had my eye exam for contacts and single vision glasses done at M Eye Expert (Gurnee). The contacts were a no brainer for My eye expert because the contacts were for identical make and prescriptions of what I've been wearing for 4 years. I used the single vision prescription for an online order and upon trying on my new eyeglasses my vision was blurry. I went back to My eye experts to have the prescriptions on the glasses verified to the prescription they gave me. It was determined by My Eye Experts that they gave me the wrong prescription because of another patient with the same name. The young girl tried to blame me for not making sure the prescription they gave me was mine. What was she talking about, the problem was not my responsibility but theirs. They did not want to take accountability for giving me the wrong prescription. Not taking accountability for their mistake speaks loudly of how they deal with customers. If you don't take accountability then what does your customer satisfaction policy stand for .I'll be spending more to have my lens' re-made because of their mistake. They didn't offer paying for the cost of re-making the lens or even apologized for their mistake. Very unprofessional and all I have for my trouble is writing a review. 4/28/14. The staff and doctors have been responsive to my feedback. My experience may be an exception. I am not sure that I will return but you may find the office to meet your needs. I had been going to these doctors since before they opened their own practice. This year there was a significant decline in customer service and patient care. I spent two hours at the office for a March 24th appointment and less than 15 minutes with the doctor who barely evaluated my vision and was instead dazzled by his how computer system comparison. I got a call that my glasses were ready the next week. Well only one pair. The other was "on its way" for some 3 weeks. The result progressive lens that neither fit well nor do have they helped my vision. My prior prescription was also top of the line for line of site and progressive, yet the staff simply said it takes time to get used to them. I was not permited to see a doctor that day but instead was offered an appointment a week later. I had planned to pick up my other pair today and again asked to see a doctor but they say only the doctor that saw me originally could help me and he was out. So apparently they don't have each others back nor or they concerned with how many time I have to drive over to their facility to be taken care of. Go anywhere other than here, it can't be any worse. read more

My whole family has been going to doctors Gandolfi and Swafford since their Walmart days years ago, and we'll never go anywhere else. Both doctors are very personable and take their time with you; they explain everything in terms that you can understand. I have never walked out of there in a state of confusion - Dr. G always discusses with me what course of action we'll be taking next in order to keep my eyes in good health. The staff is top-notch. They're so welcoming when you walk through the door and are knowledgeable & helpful. Everyone seems to really like working there, and it shows. The office is very clean and pretty cool - I mean, what other optometry office have you ever been in that offers a quiet room with massage chairs and an awesome fish tank where you can relax while you wait? A grand piano too - and it's not just for show; I have been in there before when they've actually had a real live pianist playing some tunes. Plus, their prices for exams & treatment are very on-par with any other office you could go to. They always have a wide array of contacts in stock, and beautiful frames as well. There is a nice selection of designer frames, but most of them are pretty expensive. I suppose my only complaint would be that I wish they also offered frames that were more affordable. I've been seeing Dr. Gandolfi for years, and I intent to keep coming here as long as I live in the area. The staff are friendly, the doctor remembers me despite only seeing me once a year. I absolutely love this place! The staff is extremely friendly and helpful, the doctors always explain things well and efficiently and the frame selection is superb. They are a little pricey, all designer name frames, but they also make sure you get a great deal; whether it be contact lenses or glasses. The atmosphere is relaxing and the wait is never long. Even if the wait is a little lengthy, the massage chairs and massive fish tank keeps you occupied! Myself and my entire family (two brothers, mother, and grandfather) all go here for eye care and I don't see that changing anytime soon! read more

Amazing office! Things I Liked: 1. Got an appointment same day as I found them on yelp 2. Prompt assistance even when I showed up early for that appointment 3. Can't remember the girls name who helped me get the initial tests done but she was amazing and personable! 4. Waiting room to see dr. has massage chairs and gorgeous fish tank to watch while waiting 5. Office is well maintained! Everything so clean! 6. Picking out glasses was simple, they have a lot to choose from 7. Dr. Jeff Swafford spoke quickly, sometimes hard for me to get everything, but gladly repeated when asked. 8. Dr. Jeff Swafford also very personable, like other staff members I encountered. 9. Good deal w/ 30% off on second frame with purchase of another frame. (was able to pick up a pair of cycling sunglasses at a good price) 10. Once while filling out my paperwork, and once while waiting for my appointment that was later the same day I saw 2 people walk in that had issues with their glasses, My Eye Doc staff took care of them and genuinely showed they cared about their customers! What a nightmare!!!...I had my eye's examined at My Eye Expert in Gurnee and also bought a pair of prescription readers?. Well I thought they were prescription reading glasses! Let me explain... The order took several weeks to complete and I was looking forward to wearing my new glasses. I couldn't read with them, texts blurry and magnified it was the same as the cheap non-prescription readers you buy at Walmart... They told me that someone made a mistake and they were going to correct the prescription, that it was entered incorrectly on the computer , so they agreed to remake the lens which took another couple of weeks. The re-makes were still not right and one of the lens had a small scratch on it. I was so disappointed with their handling of my order that I demanded a refund and left shaking my head realizing that a month has gone by since I first had my eyes examined. I went to the local mall and walked into a national chain eye glasses store and decided to pay again and have my eyes examine by another licensed optometrist. The new prescriptions were quite different from the original My Eye Expert prescription. So ordered a new pair and when I received them I could see clearly all reading material. What a relief and I was truly happy again. I began analyzing the whole situation at My Eye Expert and realized that expensive glasses and a large youthful staff doesn't make for outstanding service. I remember they were interested in what kind of insurance you have and repeating that they have a great deal on designer glasses frames ( $300 dollars off an inflated $800 pair of frames is not a great deal). The young staff must be incentivized to sell the more expensive pairs of glasses and pushing all the lens upgrades which is very annoying and in my opinion that type of salesmanship is best suited for car lots. I'm sharing my experience so others looking for eye exams and new prescription glasses should focus elsewhere. What a nightmare!!! read more

My family and I are former patients of MyEyeXpert and that is only because we recently relocated to Florida. Tried to convince Dr. Swafford and staff to relocate, but was unsuccessful. MyEyeXpert served our family for 8 years. We (family of 5) all wear glasses and/or contacts. Dr. Swafford even recommended me for Lasik at TLC Eye Center in Westchester. Corrected from 20/400 to 20/15. Best decision ever! They have a great selection of frames; something for everyone...even my pickiest of daughters. The staff is top-rated! When I began to have a mysterious issue with one eye, my doctor recommended I see Dr. Gandolfi. I was immediately impressed when I walked in the door, and after about half an hour, I knew I had found my new eye doctor. They are so thorough in their exams, and have invested in equipment to not only detect eye disease, but a number of degenerative issues (and no more eye puff test!) I am confident in going here that my eyes are well taken care of and well monitored. Everything is thoroughly explained. In addition, I decided to get new glasses. Amanda helped me choose, and I am so thrilled! I wanted to go a little bolder with my frame choice, and she helped me pick a set that I would never have picked for myself, and I am so glad I trusted her opinion; I am more confident with these frames, and I have gotten innumerable compliments on them. Everyone on staff is friendly and engaging. the office itself has fantastic décor and is warm and welcoming. The doctors have cut down on overhead and their prices are no higher that a chain like Pearle, where I used to go. I highly recommend the professionals at My Eye Expert. Visit starts off with a little time in a massage chair watching the fish in their beautiful fish tank if you are early enough. The very competent technician runs you through the standard tests. Finally the OD takes all necessary time to make sure you understand the results and course of action if necessary, along with a quick check of the tech's prescription results. I moved out of the Gurnee area a few years ago. Since then, I've tried eye doctors in my area, but none compare to Dr. Swafford and his staff. Went for an exam and everything was fine. It all fell apart when I received contacts. Dr. Swafford did not have me try on the new contacts. Just gave me some and I was sent home to use them for a week. I had such confidence in him thinking he picked the right ones. Went home, sure enough, couldn't see. The next week I told him and got others. Tried them on. Seemed OK. Went online to order and here's the kicker. He told me my old lenses weren't available anymore. They were and at 1/2 the cost. Needless to say, I had to jump through hoops to get the old brand. I hate to write but he had a "brush you off" attitude and I have enough on my plate. I hope the other doctors are much better due to ratings. read more

Extremely bad experience had an exam for glasses and contacts ordered contacts and my prescription was wrong the doctor Swafford had to to change it twice before he got it right he did not bother to change it in the paperwork Very disappointed I am trying to order glasses and my glasses prescription is wrong to had to email back and forth 8 times to get the correct prescription and now i don't think i even trust it so i have to get a new exam after I paid close to $200 for exams in July Unbelievable!!! save yourself the trouble and the money I am never going there again! read more

After testing by several technicians, Dr, Jeffrey Swafford,wanted to talk to me about my bi-focals. I don't wear bi-focals! He said also he couldn't help me with glasses because tests showed I had pressure behind my eyes, a possible sign of glaucoma. He kept saying he was sorry that he couldn't help me (over and over), I was referred to an opthalmologist and told to take him a piece of paper "the diagnosis" he had put in my hand. The opthalmologist's office called Dr. Swafford for his exam notes. Dr. Swafford didn't have any. He was abrupt with the technician and said only that I had pressure behind my eyes. A follow up exam (from scratch) showed I have mild cataracts, a condition I've had for two years. I did well on all of the tests according to the opthalmologist. He didn't see evidence of pressure behind the eyes, glaucoma or disease. I didn't even need drops. I will be going back to his office for a new prescriptions for glasses. I am thankful I was referred for follow-up. I don't know how Dr. Swafford came up with the conclusions he did or how he could be so far off the mark. . Postscript: I got a call today from Dr. Brent Gandolfi, in response to my review. Dr. Gandolfi was very concerned about my experience and apologized for what happened. He invited me to come back and let him try to make this right. I very much appreciate his concern and that he reached out to me. read more

Everyone was friendly and made me feel comfortable. I hadn't been to an exam in a few years and was nervous about some of the tests. I have been seeing Dr. Gandolfi for many years and in the past have been very satisfied. This year, my experience has been very disappointing. I was pleased with the examination by a technician and Dr. Gandolfi. The problems began with the young man who sold me my new glasses. He really seemed more of a salesman than someone concerned with my vision. The glasses that he sold me have some sort of coating that create a tremendous amount of glare - similar to an ocular migraine. When I returned with the glasses I was told that 'some people' are sensitive to the glare. Really? Only some people? In addition, after having the glasses for two days one of the nose pieces fell off. He explained that the wrong type of nose piece was put on my glasses. He seemed to have an excuse for everything. I wanted to return the glasses but he talked me out of it. The sunglasses that I purchased did not fit well - the frames were too loose. After 5 adjustments, they fit better but there is no guarantee that the frames will not return to the original shape. All of this & my out-of-pocket cost was just under $1,000! read more

Doctor care is good but customer service / followup / communication extremely poor. Have always had to call to find out information. Continually promise to call when glasses were in but never did. I continue to receive texts that I am due for an eye exam when I was there two months ago and purchased two pairs of glasses. Needless to say, they have a lot of work to do if I am going to use them again. The have promised to followup to make it right but to date have yet to contact me. They say it was a system issue which I doubt because I had the same experience over a year ago.
