We had high expectations of this place due to the previous reviews for Nabe Sushi but they fell flat from start to finish. The batter on the veggie tempura was a tad too heavy, almost like a katsu batter as opposed to the typical lighter coating used for frying tempura. The rolls were fairly expensive, thinking they must be good - we decided to try the most expensive roll on the menu ($22-24?) and it didn't leave much of an impression on us. I think a lot of it had to do with the quality of the fish, it's been a little while since I've had trouble finishing an entree not because of feeling too full but because of the dish itself. For those reasons, this will probably be our last visit to Nabe Sushi. 3 stars because our waitress was very attentive and kind and she had nothing to do with the food itself. read more

Nabe Sushi was exceptional. The negi toro was a standout, served as a deconstructed roll with sushi paper. Such a beautiful combination of texture and flavor, and easily one of my favorite dishes of the night. The tempura was perfectly cooked, light and crisp, and every roll we ordered was fantastic. Everything tasted incredibly fresh, and the presentation was beautiful without feeling overly fussy. A really impressive sushi experience from start to finish. Definitely a place Ito try! Came here on a whim and I can say I've found one of my favorite sushi spots in Austin. We got the $180 4 person meal and it was plenty of food to share. The service was quick and the restaurant interior was really nice. One thing I wish they did was have the nigiri and sashimi come out before the rolls. It may be a personal preference but the rolls got us extremely full in the beginning and we couldn't enjoy the fish as much because of this. The calamari was more on the breaded side and not that much octopus in the inside - I would skip out on this appetizer. (Garlic edamame was delicious) Otherwise ~ everything was great! read more

Hands down the best sushi I've had in the Austin area! The quality is excellent, and the prices are super reasonable. The servers were incredibly friendly and professional, which made the experience even better. The uni, hamachi, and saba were especially fresh and delicious. Came here for weekday lunch and was pleasantly surprised to find a hefty menu for the weekday lunch specials. There were a ton of tables open so it didn't feel crowded. There was plenty of parking and the service was good. I came here specifically for the chirashi bowl and it was delicious and filling. It came with a wide variety of fish, but the rice was a little on the drier side. Nonetheless, it was seasoned well. The Sushi was fresh, cold, and delicious. Our server was friendly and attentive. Prices were reasonable (compared to the rest of today's prices). I should add that the place was clean, and the atmosphere was relaxing. It wasn't overly noisy, they had some nice background music, and the seating was comfortable. I'm so happy to have discovered another great sushi spot in Austin! The quality of the food here definitely lives up to its ratings. For nigiri, I absolutely loved the scallop, miso salmon, and toro. One of my all-time favorite rolls has to be the We Need Protein Wagyu roll--I'm not sure if that was garlic butter on top, but oh my goodness, it melted in my mouth! Whoever invented this roll is god-sent. The smokiness of the Wagyu left a lasting impression. As for the Torotoro roll, it was decent--good, but nothing particularly special or rave-worthy. I decided to visit this restaurant based on a friend's recommendation. Although it's a bit of a drive from my place, I usually come to this area once every three months. The restaurant is spacious, and they have an outdoor patio. However, I wouldn't recommend sitting there during the summer because it's not covered. The chicken katsu was decent, but not particularly impressive. The fry on it was uneven in color and some of the pieces were quite dry. The scallop was just okay. It lacked flavor even though it was stir-fry with garlic and other ingredients. The service was average. It was their soft opening when I visited, so I can understand that they were still learning. read more

Came here on their 3rd day of opening and they did not disappoint. The lunch menu had quite a lot to choose from and prices were fair (between $16-28). The food was delicious! There were still some kinks to be worked out such as the rice was a bit undercooked, miso soup was way too salty and luke warm. But other than that, really can't complain since it was their 3rd day of business. Servers were attentive and owner was nice. Ambiance was on point. Nabe is a much needed addition to the Four Points area. We went on a Friday night around 7pm and it was extremely busy. Waiting at the hostess stand was chaotic as there was no dedicated hostess and we stood around for about 10 minutes with no one even acknowledging us. Someone eventually came up with a random piece of paper and said to write our name down, which we did, but she didn't tell anyone else behind us to do it which was weird. There were actually people standing behind us that left because no one checked them in. There's also not much space to stand and wait for the table. They could definitely benefit from either a buzzer system so people can wait outside, or just yelp wait list or something to receive a text notification. Inside the restaurant is very nicely decorated which you would think makes it a good date night restaurant, but almost everyone inside was wearing athletic clothes and there were a ton of kids which is a bummer when you want to go to a nice restaurant and everyone treats it like something casual. The food was great, but incredibly slow to come out. We started off with the calamari appetizer which had a delicious honey wasabi sauce. It was cooked perfectly. We enjoyed 5 rolls, but the best one by far was the "We Need Protein" roll. It took about an hour and a half to get all of our rolls which is not typical for a sushi restaurant. The staff kept coming out and apologizing and then someone brought us complimentary edamame (which was so good), but it was brought out at the end of our meal. It would've been nice to have brought it out during all the time we spent waiting with nothing to eat. If they can get the hostess stand worked out and a better organization system to receiving food, it would be a 5 star for me because the food was outstanding. read more

So glad to have an upscale sushi restaurant close by. Decorated traditionally inside with a very nice ambiance. We went on a Friday, around 7:30pm and it was very busy, but the gentleman assisted very quickly, getting a table ready for us. The wait was not long at all. There is plenty of seating , booths, low tops and high tops and large tables for larger groups. There are also several spots at the sushi bar to sit at. By 8:20 it had simmered down inside and many tables open by that point. Although it was busy, the staff kept up and was very fast with service. The food was amazing. The truffle garlic edamame was good. I personally like a very strong truffle flavor, this one was mild, so if you like mild, you will love it. I got the tuna tower as my meal and it was so good, very fresh and love the combination. The server deconstructed the tuna tower for us and was like a little table presentation. The sashimi was fresh, great taste, very good. The menu itself is pretty extensive for a new place and being sushi. Stop in here today for lunch-first time. Had a business meeting, and it was in the same parking lot. I sat at the sushi bar-everything was fine until my order came. There was 4 sushi chefs on the line, and the one to the far left was sneezing into his hands, rubbing his nose, and even bend down under the counter to blow his nose & NEVER washed his hands!! I watched him from my peripheral for 5 minutes, he just went right on to making orders. Then! The next sushi chef to his right-who seemed to be the one in charge sneezed into his hands & same thing!! Really enjoyed this sushi spot! I'm a sushi lover and I'm happy to have this place close to home and I will be back! The nigiri was good and fresh. I really enjoyed the sea bass, flounder and salmon nigiri most. My favorite bite is typically madai (sea bream) but I felt like the fish on mine was cut a little thin. I did not order any rolls but the options on the menu were extensive and I'm looking forward to trying some in the future! I sat at the sushi bar and saw them being prepared and all of them looked great. I also ordered the chicken karrage appetizer (it was alright, nothing to write home about; next time I'll try the calamari or edamame). I am hoping that they add a simple Hotate nigiri (non-spicy version) and perhaps a crispy rice with spicy tuna, avocado and eel sauce appetizer to the menu soon! Overall service was quick and efficient... they are still working out kinks for everything due to it being brand new but in time I do think they will thrive! Staff was friendly and very accommodating. "I'm not that hungry" I said as I walked into Nabe for the first time. That was, until I saw their incredible menu. I couldn't resist the We Need Protein Roll. I'm not exactly a sushi connoisseur, but that roll is the best sushi I have ever eaten! Their miso soup was also a great starter, as I prepared to indulge in some tasty sushi. We have been to Nabe several times now during the week to enjoy their lunchtime bento boxes. I usually get Crispy Flounder w/mayo sauce, but have also had the Tempura Veggies, Tempura Shrimp, Crispy Calamari. All were very good. My husband sticks with the beef bulgogi. The food is plentiful, and we always have to take home left-overs. Starts with a good miso soup, and the bento box has fresh salad with citrus-ginger dressing, entree over rice, 2 types of sushi, and 3 fried won tons (?). Ginger and wasabi are also served. The food never disappoints. Service is excellent and attentive. The restaurant is clean, attractive, fresh. There is also an outside dining area.
