"Very meh" Had dinner here tonight. All of the tables were full so we thought that was a good sign. The menu looked really good and we were excited about what we ordered but it was just poorly executed. We got the trio of salsas and an order of guac to start salsas we ok chips were pretty lackluster guac was good though I'll give them that. I ordered the shrimp taco and a blackened fish taco with rice and beans. The shrimp had that just out of the freezer bleach taste, the blackened fish wasn't really blackened and I'm pretty sure it was undercooked. The waitress told us the kitchen was really backed up and I think they were rushing to get orders out. The beans were flavorless, rice was mushy but had an ok flavor to it. My boyfriend also got the blackened fish taco and he got whatever the curry taco was and said it didn't taste anything like curry but had an ok flavor. Overall disappointed and bummed I spent 30 dollars on my meal. Would have rather gone somewhere nicer and just gotten a pricier but quality entree and no appetizer. Don't recommend. read more

I have been to this location several times pre-covid. The service and quality of food has declined since reopening. We didn't receive our margaritas until after the meals arrived. They seemed to be lacking something, not very well made, usually they are excellent. Steak fajitas were a disappointment. Instead of strips of steak it seemed to shaved beef. We had a great experience at Nacho Hippo. We went into the restaurant as part of a soccer tournament. There were 14 FAMILIES in our party. Not only did they bend over backwards to accommodate us and our rambunctious 9 year-olds, but the food was really good, the service was solid and our experience was great! We will be back. read more

Such a yummy place! Hubby and I went out on a date night last year when we're vacationing in the area. This war we brought our whole family back. Decided to finally give Nacho Hippo a try since we come to this area often and have already tried multiple restaurants in market common that have become our favorite. The service given by Mackenzie was good as she offered us many good options. However, I was underwhelmed with the quality of the food. We arrived there around 8pm and were seated right away. I was offered a gluten free menu that included an appetizer option, an entree option, and a few choices of tacos (served with corn tortillas). We ordered the 'fresh guacamole' and chips for our appetizer, which I quickly realized was not one bit fresh and tasted like it came out of a store bought container. As a vegetarian/pescatarian, I eat a lot of guacamole when I got out to eat because it a good source of protein and I just love it so it was easy for me to recognize their's was not at all fresh. For my main dish I ordered 3 tacos, one with seared tuna, one shrimp, and one vegetarian taco. The shrimp taco was ordered from the kids gluten free menu so I was surprised by how spicy it was, even for someone who typically eats spicy food. Overall, I enjoyed the tacos. Our server offered us desert since they offered a gluten free fudge cake option. Before I decided to give it a try, I asked the server what type of flour was used in the cake and she proceeded to tell me that there wasn't any flour and insisted that the box said it was gluten free however, once we got the cake and we were eating it I realized there was a thin layer of cake in between the fudge. I was very disappointed because the server had told me there was no flour in the cake, which by looking at the cake was obviously wasn't true. I was very disappointed as I had a stomach ache for the rest of the night. Most people think that being gluten free is a trend and a choice and I get very irritated when people assume just because something is gluten free that it's ok for people with an intolerance to eat which is not always true. Replacements of wheat products can sometimes have a similar protein to gluten and therefore your body treats it as such. I don't think I'll be coming back here again. read more

I ordered two different types of tacos, both amazing. My mother ordered the chicken chimichanga, which was a large portion, and delicious! We split the chips and salsa trio for starters, which is and endless bowl of chips and extremely filling. We barely ate half of our meal! They also have a really large variety of drinks, and all are delicious. Red wine sangria is a must! Even the Classic Margarita was wonderful, and if you go at the right time, they're only $3! My boyfriend and I wanted to grab dinner somewhere close to the condos we rented for the week. I suggested Mexican and found this place. Unfortunately the service was not that great, our server forgot our drinks which we had to remind her to bring us. We got our appetizer which was the three way and peters pickled peppers. I usually enjoy chips and dip but the three way was nowhere close to enjoyable. The dips that came with the chips were not good. My boyfriend did enjoy the peters pickled peppers. For our entree my boyfriend ordered the sloppy burrito and I ordered two tacos, I chose banging shrimp and ka-ka-ka kia. When the entrees arrived, I realized the banging shrimp had a sweet sauce to it, I do not like sweet and salty mixed together so I took two bites of that and put it down. The ka-ka-ka-Kia was so salty my first bite I spit it out and downed my soda. My boyfriends sloppy burrito was delicious though. I have never had a bad experience at Nacho Hippo. The food is always good, and the service is usually above average. Last nice, I took a party of about 15, and they set us up a big table in a private room. Several of us stayed about 5 hours, mostly because our server Emily was outstanding. I've never had better service at an event, and I do a few of these every year. Drinks stayed full, orders were perfect and fast, and she was never far when we needed anything. Nacho Hippo has pretty standard pricing for the area, a bit more than you might find at a smaller bar. The food is good, nothing fancy (it is nachos after all). One of my favorite things is the a la carte tacos. The tacos are priced individually, which is perfect if you're there all night and need a refresher. If you like spicy food, there are plenty of options, and if you don't, you're covered there too. They have a couple different salsas you can try on their Three Way, and the guac is great. All in all, A+ service and good food means that whatever your plans are, you can fit Nacho Hippo in. read more

It is with great regret that I write this review... Check-in at the hostess stand was very confusing and we could not get a straight answer from the host and hostess on how long it would be before we were seated. The guy host was very rude when I was asking questions. Secondly, there were hoards of people just standing around waiting to be seated while one four-top table, four six-top tables, and one two-top table was empty. The four-top had been empty for a while but no one had cleaned it off. We finally found three seats at the bar and decided to order because we had been there waiting for over 45 minutes already. It was extremely hot inside this restaurant. I ordered a beer and before I could drink it all it was very warm at the bottom. So I ended up grabbing a water after I finished it. Everyone, looked miserable that worked there. I blame that entirely on the management. No clear guidance and if I was very hot as a patron I can only imagine working in those conditions. The only reason I give them 3 stars is the food. They have very large portions at reasonable prices. And the tacos are excellent!! read more

This location used to be amazing but the last two times I have been there have been horrible and I will never return. I had one shot at having a nice dinner with my husband and our daughter and I guess we chose wrong because I had hair in my food. It's food service 101! I remove hair for a living, that being said the thought of having some strangers hair in my MOUTH is absolutely sickening! So it's always hard to give what I consider a bad review when I really enjoyed my meal. The last two times we stayed in MB we mainly ate at Ultimate California Pizza. It is fantastic. I picked up a brochure for Nacho Hippo. Owned by the same group and I love Mexican. So of course I hit Yelp and did some research. Decided to make it our meal stop on the way in since we stay up in Grande Dunes. Parked right in front and was excited. We walked in and were greeted but then the hostess turns around and keeps talking about who is here? The manager was standing right there and said take care of your people. Good idea. She led us to a table. Fine. We looked over the menu. It sometimes takes me longer to figure out what I want than it does to eat it. So we figured out our plan. But then no one ever came to greet us. Guess they never learned the first step is a 60 second greet? We waited. And waited. The hostess came to the table behind us and gave them menus. Yes they had been sitting there with no menus. The hostess never even looked our way to see we had no drinks. Eventually the other table got up abd relocated to the bar. I walked back up front and inquired if there was anyone working our table. One server asked where we were sitting and walked back to the kitchen. A few minutes later a guy finally came over. We shared a hipponachomus (sp?) and each had one taco. I had the bangin shrimp and Mom had the baja fish. Both were very good. The nachos were huge and delicious and even 2 of us could not eat the whole thing. So the food scores 4 stars. Not the best in my life but definitely worth a trip. However our nightmarish service was not over. My main requirement when I dine is keep my drink full and don't make me ask for it. The guy did well at making sure we had tea during our meal. Toward the end of the mesl I thought to myself okay one more tea and then I'm good to go. Our server had not been out for a while. No biggie. He will be back in a minute. Hmmmmm maybe. That's not him. That's not him. Where did he go? Well he either went home or forgot about us. We never saw him again. So i never got aby more tea. We never even got a bill. This is the first time in my life I have ever considered leaving without even paying. Mom was thinking the same thing but having worked in restaurants most of my life I said no. I can't do that. So we added up in our head what it may have been and left the money on the table. My husband and I were visiting Myrtle Beach and decided to check out Nacho Hippo after the wait for PF Changs was too long. Wonderful choice! The prices are excellent! We sat at the bar and watched the Carolina Hurricanes game. The food is delicious! I had a Lobster Taco and the Thai One On taco. The Lobster Taco tasted like a Tempura Lobster roll with a sweet cream sauce. It was so good! I told my husband that we needed to come back and I'd order 5 and put some in my pocket to eat later. :) My husband had the Carolina BBQ tacos which had slaw and sauteed plantains. He is a southern boy and had no idea what a plantain was, so he took them off thinking they were yellow peppers. I snagged one and have to say that it's an odd combination, but a good one! We made our tacos a combo meal, so it came with salad and yellow rice. With two dinners and an appetizer, our check was only $26. The service was wonderful and the food came out quickly. I will definitely visit this restaurant again....and again...and again! The bar was expansive, so would be good for beers afterwork with friends or on the weekends.
