I did not have a good experience at this salon and unfortunately would not return. The shop did not feel particularly clean to me, and several parts of my appointment were not handled correctly. I booked specific services, but a different service was performed. I was also charged for a service that, according to their menu, included an amenity that was not provided. My cuticles were not cleaned up well either, which was disappointing. The women working in the salon smiled and were polite, but the overall experience was uncomfortable. At one point, a child of one of the women who works in the shop very openly pointed at me and appeared to be gossiping about me, which made it hard to relax during the appointment. Overall, while the staff seemed pleasant, the cleanliness, service accuracy, and atmosphere were not what I expected. I will not be returning and cannot recommend this salon based on my experience. read more

Went in yesterday for a gel x removal service and a gel mani and wasn't very happy with the new technician that I was scheduled with. I had to say hello to my tech 5 mins or so into being serviced, she wasn't very chatty (which I prefer). she clearly wasn't welcoming or particularly happy to be working with my nails (I think she dislikes cat eye polishes). It could have been that they were just overbooked or short staffed.. not sure.? Didn't seem busier than they normally are. I wasn't offered a drink nor snacks like I was previously which kind of sucked considering this was a 5:30 appointment that I showed up on time to. I kind of banked on a small snack before dinner but that's OK. Anyway.. The new tech took 1hr 30min to remove gel x (removal took 30min) and a gel mani (this service took a whole hour). The technician was really struggling trying to make a heart shape with the magnet that moves the cat eye effect. My previous tech has always been able to accomplish this without issues and quickly. I honestly didn't even think it was difficult considering that all other salons are able to do it within one attempt. I also disliked that the technician kept dropping the tools and then would put them on her cart. She started spraying alcohol on them to sanitize after she noticed me looking at the cart. I think the manicure itself (trimming nails, cuticle clean up and nail shaping/ prep) was great. I'd recommend people to get a classic manicure. Not confident that I'd recommend a special effect nail. Previously I was able to get waxed, a pedicure, and a new gel x mani all within an hour so it was a little upsetting to spend nearly two hours for something was a bit more simple than my previous experience. Mind you, previous set was Gel X and this time around was my natural nail. Not too sure if I will come back considering price point & quality. Note: My two favorite techs are no longer employed at this salon (due to relocation) so I was rescheduled the morning of my appointment with a tech I have never been serviced with. Just quiet music, couch-like comfy oversized chairs, and calming wall art and foliage. I decided to go all out and get the March mani-pedi special. $85 for the pedi and $65 for the mani. SOOOOOO worth it, especially if you're overworked and overtired. The green tea salt scrub...the minty clay mask....hot towel wrap....green tea lotion....arm, leg, neck, shoulder, scalp, and temple massage.....paraffin dip....callus remover.....hot stone foot and leg massage at the end....I feel like a whole new woman. Sloppy work and unhygienic practices. I have this salon a second try this week. The staff, while kind, are not professional. Repeatedly I asked the technician not to use her own dirty nail to wipe the excess polish off. She was not wearing gloves and had the nail brush - which SHOULD be used to clean off the excess. One day later the cuticles look awful because she worked hastily and didn't do a proper clean-up. The polish - which is my own and usually lasts at least 5-7 days, is also chipping because she didn't let the layers dry in between coats. Perhaps the management can do a better job at ensuring that hygienic practices are used and that a proper manicure is done, including cuticle clean-up and accounting for proper dry times! read more

I even created a whole design guide for the nail tech who would undergo this endeavor. I decided that Nail Affair salon was going to be the place where I commit to these pretty designs. I booked an appointment with Amy a couple weeks in advance and she was incredibly kind and patient. She was very gentle with my hands and made sure that I felt comfortable the whole way through. I got a gel mani with custom zelda nail art. I borrowed some designs from pintrest, some from redditors, and some I just came up with on my own. The left hand is inspired by breath of the wild and the right hand tears of the kingdom. These are my fav nails I've ever gotten and have been crafted with meticulous detail. Been looking for a new spot closer to home and was excited to try this place but it just goes downhill from there. The tech over sanded my nails and I've been back 3 times for fixes. Cracks from top to bottom and in the middle of my nails too, super painful. This last time someone else redid them they were great for 24 hours but due to the havoc already done my nails are just crumbling. Super disappointed. This is my second time visiting this nail spa. The first time was nice, I had a regular mani and pedi and I was pleased. Today I popped in to try dip for the first time and I have to say, I'm pretty disappointed overall. My nails look weirdly large, like cartoonish if that makes sense? They're super thick and wider than my actual nails look normally. Second, the woman giving me the manicure never cleaned up my nails? I kept waiting for her to soak them and clean them up and she didn't. At the very end she took cuticle cutters to MY DRY HANDS AND CUT ME (pictured). I had to yank my hand back and say please don't use those on me when my hands haven't been soaked or even had cuticle gel on them. Needless to say, I won't be going back. However I've gone here 3/4 times and this will be my LAST. Each time I've paid over $180 for a gel manicure and with a minimal design. While Alice the nail tech was moderately friendly she kept her mask on while servicing me But when she serviced everyone else she didn't have her mask on. Made me feel like a germ or something. I didn't appreciate it and I tipped / tip well. I also paid $185 for the special and callous remover + tip only just to leave looking this. It's my birthday and I wanted to treat myself. I feel taken advantage of and mistreated Again I've been more than accommodating. I was also hesitant to bring my race into this but I'm a Young Black Woman and I def felt and saw the difference in my service vs how others were treated and serviced. The salon is very central to Sherman Oaks, has nearby parking, has an easy online reservation system, and most importantly - is well lit and clean looking. I appreciated the effort that was put into the comfort and cleanliness while you get a manicure/ pedicure, plus the time savings of having both done simultaneously. Granted, I have fairly low standards but hopped in for service together with my mom who wanted gel. Starting in ascending order of mediocre acceptability, my pedicure was fine for the most part and quick. I've certainly had better even at Hammer & Nail, but I would maybe get it again. Next, my mom's gel looked nice and she was very careful, but failed to apply it correctly and 2-3 of the nails only lasted about a week. Getting your gel peeled off from the cuticle because it's still prominent and painted over is an annoying recipe for having to come back for a redo just a short week later. Lastly, my manicure was simply appalling - to the point of my inner anxiety picking up until I managed to reach home and get a hold of some clippers and tools to fix the disaster. She cut my nails in rugged hexagonal shapes, uneven and jagged like the favorite knife of a generational bread maker in southern France. Cuticules ended up in appearance like the fingers of an elementary schooler before a hated Math exam. The only part that was okay was the natural buff/shine, which isn't all that hard yet it was quoted an extra charge mid-way. Anyway, despite the comfort and clean environment plus friendly people, I ran away from Nail Affair thinking it was money well wasted. Perhaps I could've dipped my hands in some low grade acid or paint thinner for a more put together final outcome. And I almost want to give them the benefit of the doubt but I would not return after 0/3 experience. read more
