I have been coming to Nail Avenue for about five years and have always been so happy. I saw a few different people when I first started going and was always happy with the results. I've seen Chau religiously for the past few years and she is INCREDIBLE. I live in LA and have tried to find other nail techs but no one is as great as Chau. Seriously, she is worth the drive. I always call ahead to make an appointment and am usually able to get in when I need to. I would definitely recommend making an appointment, as they can get busy with other customers and walk ins. Horrible job on my nails I spent so much money plus tip for a gel mani-pedi I didn't even get my feet massaged or my hands! I had multiple people work on my feet and hands as the girl who was doing my nails kept coming in and out on her phone and caused a whole commotion with what ever was going on in her personal life as she was on the phone and had everyone talking about it. They over cut my nails and didn't even paint them right and was just a horrible experience the entire time I was there even after I asked them if they were going to give me a massage they kept saying they had already when they clearly hadn't even put lotion on my hands or feet. My goal with this review isn't to bash this place. Its to prevent my experience from happening to you. I try to make it as easy as possible for service-based businesses to serve me. I have a business background and understand how to provide great customer service and I appreciate customers who value my service. I have been here a few times and never had an issue. ..until last weekend. This salon's brochure for services offered states exactly what each manicure/pedicure includes. They have each service included separated by a comma meaning it's a separate service but included in the price of the whichever mani/pedi you choose...right? I chose the "Classic Manicure" which includes a scrub and massage...so I thought. It's clearly separate services on their brochure. I asked the manicurist AND the owner and they both said differently; that the massage is part of the scrub. So, I showed them on their brochure where it clearly states that they are separate. I also let them know that one of the other girls had done this same "classic Manicure" on me about 2 weeks ago and when I asked HER if they were separate she said "yes" and she did them separately!! She was there this night and they asked her about it right in front of me but, because they were speaking in Vietnamese I couldn't understand what was being said. Regardless, the owner continued to argue with me about it and in the end never honored it. Needless to say, I canceled my pedicure and left a very unhappy customer. I'll never go back . Not because they did a shitty job, because they didn't , but because they misrepresented their services and chose not to honor them which equates to bad business ethics. My suggestion, ask questions and get clarity before getting any service from this nail salon. Understand clearly what you're paying for. Hopefully they correct their brochure so no one else is ever mislead. read more

When I lived a bit closer, this used was my go to nail spot for over a year. I would see Cathy (the owner) for a medium length plain pink and white acrylics. She's honestly not the nicest nail lady.. You know, the ones you have a little conversation with that make your day. She's actually kinda rude and cold to be really honest. (Yes other reviewers are right about her hating kids in the salon) But I stayed loyal because I couldn't find a better nail shop at the time. I would come in every 2 weeks religiously for a fill or new set. She does a decent job when it comes to powders. Meaning when it comes down to polish or gel, she just does so so. Usually too far from the cuticle and a bit streaky/uneven. Also, I've tried almond nails here and they wouldn't last a few days without breaking. So I would try to stick with my pink and white powder acrylic nails. They also have swarovski stones and a variety of charms but it is extremely overpriced to get a simple design on 2 fingers. However very limited selection of regular and gel polish. A few visits that turned me off from this place: (1) I brought my best friend in with me one day so we could both get full sets. She didn't like any of the gel colors because they don't have any nude shades which is what she wanted. She settled for this soft coral color but ended up hating it after seeing it on because it looked way different from the nail swatch. She asked Cathy to change it and was willing to pay extra knowing it would be extra work. Cathy seemed very annoyed and had an attitude and started being very rough with the drill and file. My friend didn't end up liking her nail in the end anyways because the gel polish was far from the cuticle giving an illusion of grown out acrylics. I felt bad because I had brought her to this salon and she was so excited to get her nails done ): (2) My boyfriend and I were in the area and I decided to come in to get a new set after like a month of no nails. I wanted something different than my usual. I got square nails with gel color and two nail designs. The gel was again.. Streaky and far from the cuticle but they looked okay. She charged me $65. Wow I was so shocked by the price of my mediocre set. I had never paid that much for a set in my life and I've been getting acrylics for 10+ years. Maybe she thought my bf was paying so it would be okay to overcharge me. Yikes. (3) I was in the area visiting family and decided to come in for a very simple set. Coffin nails with regular polish and clean up the cuticles. I honestly didn't like them at all. Some with curved and thick and some were flat, crooked filing, and again sloppy polish. I opted for something very simple because I wasn't looking to spend too much on my nails that day. She charged me $35! Omg I felt so robbed ): Especially when I saw her sign for $18 full set. I mean even for coffin shape $35 is a bit of a stretch. That's how much I used to pay for pink and white with gel!! Plus I still tipped her $10 idk why. I was so offended by her price especially because I was such a loyal customer.. Which obviously means nothing at this salon. And Cathy knew I drove from so far! So long Nail Ave.. Best Vietnamese nail salon I've been to, in quality of work, cleanliness and amenities, fair prices, and selection of polish and nail art. The salon is well-ventilated. Relaxing piano music is playing in the background, no noisy TV to distract you from your chill time. Chairs are new with back massage and spa jets, and they are cleaned and sanitized after each client. I was greeted with a small bottle of water and a price menu, which I really appreciated because it made it easy to decide what I wanted and could just point to it! The nail polish selection is high quality, no dollar-store polishes. They have a wide selection, too. It was a little surprising to me just how many colors there were after having been used to lower quality nail places with that little shelf on the wall. Then I saw how many examples of nail art designs there are! No joke, if you want something more creative than the typical Vietnamese-salon tropical flower on your nail, this is your place to go FOR REAL. Look at the photos here on Yelp, these ladies are TALENTED. I found a design online and showed it to Lyly on my cell phone. She was happy to do it for me and her work was beautiful. During the cuticle trim and removal of all that nasty dead skin, Lyly was very gentle but thorough. She was careful to ask frequently if what she was doing hurt me at all (it didn't). I really appreciated her care and attention to detail. All of that gross dry stuff around my toes is a thing of the past now, and there was no pain, bleeding, pulling, or raw edges. If you have ever had that happen at a salon, you know how painful it can be! I was also thankful that unlike other nail salons, nobody tried to upsell me for getting this or that or pressure me into buying another service like gel or manicure. This is a big one for me because it always happens (see my other nail salon reviews). and I find it very rude! One tip another Yelper wrote complained about the manicurists speaking Vietnamese to each other so you should bring headphones? Uh, not even true. Lyly asked me a few questions about her work and did everything feel ok, was the water the right temp, was she scrubbing too hard. She made small talk with me but not so much that I felt overwhelmed. I'm not too chatty when trying to unwind and I never know what to say anyway. The other workers and Lyly all used a very quiet voice when speaking to each other, compared to other nail salons I've been to. It was clear that they were discussing what they were working on, like asking if the art they were doing looked okay, or what color to use here. I have had the feeling at other places that the person was complaining about me (like after I had said no to an upsell!) but that was not the case at this salon. I don't find it annoying at all because I expect that people are probably going to speak their own language. If it was a Mexican place they'd be speaking Spanish, or a South Coast place they'd be talking like valley girls. (Like ohhhhmigawd!) I'm sure whatever language you speak, there is somebody somewhere who thinks YOU sound annoying, so best not complain about other people. No need to go all "UCLA chick complaining about Asians in the library" on us, now! The polish was applied smoothly with no bubbles or mistakes, and none ending up on the surrounding skin. My nail design looked exactly how I wanted it. I was allowed to dry at the drying table for as long as I felt I needed to, with no pressure to get going or to pay. A first for me in this type of salon! Do make an appointment and arrive 15 mins. ahead of time. Get an early morning time slot. I arrived at 10:45 on Saturday morning, and many of the manicurists were not busy. By the time I was getting scrubbed, the waiting area was full! People were stuck waiting quite a while. Men, you can come here for a mani or pedi too without embarrassment. I saw not one but three manly men waiting to get their hands or feet neatened up. Good for them! :) I recommend parking at that In N Out if there is no parking. This is the nail salon to go to when you're in the area! Aside from their ridiculously low prices (as low as $8 for a basic manicure), the place itself is inviting and clean. They even give out little mini bottled water to all their customers! Although it's one of the smallest nail salons I have ever been to, they have the biggest (and most creative) nail art selections I have ever seen. Plus, they have a huge selection of OPI and Essie nail polishes - probably why it takes me forever and a day just to pick a color :) It's in a strange little plaza off Brookhurst, next to a 7-Eleven and across a Wells Fargo ATM "shack". First time I came here I was on a Sunday after really needing a polish change, my pastel pink mani was not looking pretty. Anyway I knew it was a gamble going to a nail salon on a weekend but I thought alright, Im willing to wait. What I didn't realize that as soon as I said I was only their for a polish change that I was going to be forgotten so they could attend to their mani/pedi/gel polish etc customers. I thought, okay fine its a Sunday I kinda understand. So I decided to come back on Wednesday. Wednesday comes along, I make an appointment. I really wanted to try out the matte black nails with the glossy tip for a change of my usual french gel mani, I knew they had the matte black polish, I was getting excited. Boy was I wrong! Again, the salon wasn't too crowded I even saw some manicurists sitting down and chatting and still! I was ignored! The girl bringing the water bottles to clients even ignored me. The service went down hill, I have had the man do my pedicure and he has torn off skin and left cuts on my toes. The customer service is low and the manicurists are very rude. The place is small and crowded while honestly the prices are nothing special. I will never be going back there and have stopped refering people to them since my last experience where they left me waiting for an hour and did the worst job on my manicure. This place is a hit or miss. Sometimes you will get good service and come out with a great pedicure, and other times the complete opposite. Last time I came here to get a pedicure, the girl who was doing my toes seemed to be hating life and her job. She tried to sell me her extra services but asked in such a way as if my feet were completely boring to her. I mean, I get it, doing pedicures all day cannot be the most fun a person can have but c'mon. I felt uncomfortable by her touching my feet and I wanted to get the hell out of there. When it came to filing my toes I was scared that she was going to cut me (this has happened to me before because they were careless and filed my skin with the sharp edge of the file). She was very rough with the filing process and my toes weren't even evenly filed. The pedicure was AWFUL. As soon as the pedicure dried, there were bubbles that formed and not to mention they looked dull. I can't tell you how many years I've been coming to this place. An updated review about this place has been looong over due. Where do I start... I feel like in the last 7 years, prices have gone up (significantly) and quality/service have gone (drastically) down. This place has NOT been consistent throughout the years. You're looking at spending about $60-75 for a gel, acrylic (fill) nails. AND a $40 pedicure WITHOUT tip!!! I had recently gotten my nails done for the holidays. I asked for the classic pink and white nails. This cost me about $55 for adding the supposed, "long-lasting powder." I was back within the week to have a fill since they started to crack and lift within a few days. I called within 5 days to schedule an appointment and have one of my nails fixed. I ended up spending another twenty-something-ish for a fill and replace a nail that was (already) coming off. ALL WITHIN 5 DAYS. From Sunday to Friday. Not kidding. I have another girlfriend share with me similar opinions about Nail Ave just today. She also pointed out how the items they use during services, no longer look sterile. I haven't seen them take out the individually wrapped items anymore. They do seem to just pull out old filers and such from their drawers. Super gross! Another story: I had referred one of my coworkers to this nail salon less than a year ago. She recently texted me and told me she would never go there again. I guess she called to schedule an appointment to have her nail fixed a couple of weeks ago, and that conversation didn't go too well. She said that Kathy, the owner, was trying to upsell services over-the-phone, telling her what she needed. That's not ok. We are paying customers! Who works for whom?! My coworker was upset and told me she would never go there again. They've just lost 3 customers. I'm giving them a two-stars based on "likability." I like the girls that would always take care of my services and the fact that the main gals know me on a first-name basis. Other than that, that's about it. I love this place! All of the women are so nice and they are constantly checking on me to make sure I'm okay. My nails come out flawless and just like I asked, if not better. They did my nails for my wedding, and I trust them very much. First, I recommend making an appointment, sometimes there is a bit of a wait so if you have the appointment then you will be good to go. They do have a new location right down the street that has taken the wait down quite a bit. They are always prompt and have an extremely clean place. Second, the parking lot is a little hectic at times so try to be a little early. There have been plenty of times that I have had to park across the street because parking was crazy. I'am very picky when it comes to my nail designs, I asked for gel french tip/ a simple flower and Tisha helped me out. It took a while because she knew I didn't want super long french tips, but just the right length to make it look more natural. While she was talking to me, the owner heard our conversation about me being picky not having it too long and the owner blurts out loud in vietnamese "ok too short is gonna be ugly, and she doesn't want it long either so what do you want then". How rude ! She probably didn't know that I'm vietnamese and understood the whole thing lol. Good thing Tisha was friendly and took her time doing my nails. I really love this nail salon. The prices are really reasonable ($8 for a manicure) and they do an amazing job on my nails. They're clean, has nice decor, and they give you a bottle of water while you wait for a manicure/pedicure. I'm a habitual nail-biter and I need to do my nails on a weekly basis to curb the biting. But some weeks, I can't get in for a week or two and by that time my nails look nasty from my nail-biting. Yet somehow, they're still able to make my nails look awesome. They do a great job with the edges and filing down my ragged edges. In addition, my cuticles are really dry and they make them look so smooth. The spa pedicure is really nice. They got new chairs that do a good job massaging. What's really cool is that the chairs have liners that fit into the foot bath and each customer gets a new liner for their pedicure. My pedicures usually last a couple of weeks since I don't wear sandals that often. They have a great selection of OPI and China Glaze nail polish. I'm looking forward to doing the OPI Axxium Soak Off Gel Lacquer ($30). I haven't gotten acrylics done there, but from seeing other people I'm pretty sure they do a good job on that. They also do waxing and threading. I've done the threading there and it's not bad, but I prefer getting my brows threaded at Ziba. But I go back every week for awesome looking nails. read more

DO NOT ACCEPT LESLIE. I was brought here for my first time by my friend and i was really excited. My friend made the appointment for us and walked right in. So, my manicurist was Leslie and the way she greeted me was very rude. I immediately felt uncomfortable when we both sat down. I also felt rushed to choose my colors and design. I showed her a picture of what I wanted and 5 mins later she asks me what did I want... She hit my hand because my fingers were being too stiff. She kept sighing and complaining about me scratching my face. She told me that I didn't know what I was talking about when I asked her for bigger glitters. I get gel nails all the time and was in cosmetology, so I know how they do manicures and how to be treated nicely by a worker. I have been coming here for YEARS and have recommended this place to many people. Unfortunately, I sent a friend over there that is handicapped (she has one hand) to get her nails done. Everywhere she has been only charges her half the price as it is half the time and half the product. She was told that they would only reduce the price by 20%. I do not understand the justification for this. If you spend 30 minutes for a fill on an average person, you would only be spending 15 minutes on her. Before writing this review, let me just say that I'm a dude, not a girl. So I called this place yesterday and made an appointment for a manicure and pedicure. I've only had 1 manicure done in the past and have never had a pedicure before. All my female friends were telling me how much I missed out last time by not getting a pedicure also, so I decided to get both this time. I was a little nervous when I walked in since I'm pretty new to this nail salon thing, but felt much better when I sat down to wait my turn and saw 2 other guys also waiting to get their nails done. Mind you, these were rather manly looking men. One of them, in fact, was a rather burly looking gentleman who had the beard of a lumberjack. This put me at ease a bit more. They were pretty busy, but after about 5 minutes of waiting, my name was called and an employee asked me to sit in the pedicure seat in the back. Another one of the girls who was supposed to work on my nails thought that I was only getting a manicure, not a pedicure as well. So while I was taking my shoes off, she asked me to keep them on. Uhhh...why would I take my shoes off unless I was also getting a pedicure? So when I told her that I was getting both, she started laughing hysterically (I'm still unsure of the reason), which of course caused all the other ladies in the place to look at me and smile. WTF, woman!!! As if it wasn't already hard enough for a dude to walk into a nail salon and get his nails done, they gotta embarrass a brotha?? That incident is probably the equivalent of a girl having a car mechanic convince her that she's out of halogen headlight fluid and all the guys around laughing. Obviously girls wouldn't like that, just as much guys don't like attracting extra attention to themselves and being laughed at when getting their nails done. Anyways, what's done is done...on to the work. My first pedicure was a rather pleasant experience. It felt good just relaxing while getting my feet taken care of. Since I'm pretty new to this, I can't really judge their quality of work, but I was happy with it. About 3/4 through my pedicure, another girl came over and started working on my manicure. The manicure was also very nice and relaxing. Then I paid for the work, tipped both the girls and peaced out of there! I'm not sure why I tipped that first girl who laughed at me and threw me under the bus, but I did. Anyways, I think I might just start doing this every few weeks since it feels good to have your nails done. And who doesn't like having nice nails? Although I'm not sure if I'll come back to this place or go somewhere else next time. And to all the dudes that might be reading this review and scared about getting their first manicure or pedicure like I was, I'll just say that it's totally worth it. VERY disappointed. Not even 24 hours with a gel manicure and two of my nails are chipping (one, completely peeling off). I wish I had time to go in with a fix, but I don't. Today I was in the neighborhood running errands and needed a pedicure and I remembered really liking this spot the first I went to it about a year ago because all the tools were individually professionally sanitized, packaged and sealed. That wasn't the case today. I was bummed but last time they did a good job with the pedi so I thought, "Ok so they're just like every other nail spot with the tools, I'll live." The girl that worked on me, Lily, was nice but I later found out she was very new. Like new at doing nails! Her manager had to step in and do some of the work for her. I didn't think negatively about it because I do appreciate managers who oversee and step in when help is needed. I give 3 stars because 1) I was given a free small bottle of water. 2) The manager did a good job on my toes. 3) Lily gave me a decent foot massage. Minus 2 stars because Lily did a really crappy paint job. I guess if I was in the neighborhood again and needed a pedicure I would consider but this visit didn't leave a very good impression. read more

The service here is good but it all depends on who you get. The girls are GREAT the man on the other hand who seems to be the owner is horrible! I had him do my fill and he didn't even clean around the edges properly so they stuck out a little. The girl on the other hand is AMAZING!!! She makes your nails look meticulous like nothing you've ever seen before. Everything was great and I will definitely come back, but I am only letting the girl do my nails. I like it here, but the wait is usually forever. I pricing might be too much compared to the other nail salons around the area. However, you do get what you pay for. I usually just get a pedi here and most of the time with different workers - they are all great ! I love the cold water that is offered to me tho. I do wish that appointment times were honored. I always wait at least 15-20 mins even though I had an appointment :( read more

If you are a new customer they are nice to you, but then things go sour when you are a repeat customer. They don't take you at your appointment time and then they give you an attitude like your wasting your time. The son is so rude. I called to make an appointment and I asked him for Tisha and he said she had time at 5 so I said it would be for myself and my daughter and he rushed to tell me she only had time for 1. Didn't bother accommodating us or anything. I just told him I would go somewhere else. He said ok. Well that is the last time I go there. Its not like they are cheap either. read more
