Miyako is not the type of nail tech that will throw a ring of nail colors at you and tell you to pick a color as you wait for the client before you to finish up. She's an artist, a designer, and a true innovator. There hasn't been a single design I've shown her (even the most elaborate Pinterest inspo) that she couldn't pull off and she always manages to elevate it beyond what I imagined. I first came to Miyako in search of a nail artist for my wedding. Leading up to the big day, we experimented with a few different styles I had in mind, and she nailed every single one (pun intended). She also did my Barbie-in-Vegas-themed bachelorette nails, which were absolutely stunning. I felt like a bad b**** every time I walked out of her studio. What truly sets Miyako apart is her meticulous attention to detail. The shape, smoothness, and evenness of the nails are always flawless. Even with just a plain color, my nails would look like they were perfect press on designs. You can tell she's a true creative who deeply cares about her craft. I also really appreciated the one-on-one setting--it's just you and her in a peaceful, distraction-free space, which makes the experience feel that much more special. I'm so sad I moved away from RPV and can't see her regularly anymore--but I'll absolutely be making that 2-hour drive for special occasions. Since I moved back down from Northern California, I believe I found my new nail salon. I only get a pedicure and it's worth doing it especially at my age. The staff speak English and Japanese. They are very meticulous and careful. My nails have gotten very hard and brittle and they do a great job in taking care of my feet. I'm so happy I found this place. Miyako and Mika are the best! I like hand painted designs, not stickers so I try to find designs inline before I go. I always have mani and pedi, usually gel. You have a choice of hard or soft but can also get the usual non-gel. There's also eyebrow and eyelash services. I haven't tried those but given the quality of nail service, it's git to be great. I've had nail health issues and they're helping me make my nails more healthy. You need to make your appointments early. They are always booked. I am already booked through February so I get my days/times. Their place is convenient and duper clean. Even have heated toilet seats! LOL! Music plays and you are offered a beverage. Lots of orchids. Someone there is a really talented gardener and someone is a decent interior decorator. Plenty of colors and types of polish. A little pricey for some but for me, it's well worth it! read more

AMAZING!!! I've been searching high and low on Instagram for a great artist who can do quality gel nails with designs! These came out better than I could have imagined!!! I can't stop staring at my hands!!!! Mica was waiting for me when I arrived and greeted me. The salon is nice! Blamed it on the app and on me for thinking they check their voicemail messages!! " we are too busy"... - Voicemail(5) days out: Confirming that I booked online as requested and stated date & time. I also said I was excited because they were recommended through a friend - VM(3) days out: I broke two nails and wanted them to know they would need to repair so would need a little extra time. -VM/Day of appointment: I rang to let them know I could be 5-10 min late. So happy I found Miyako! Going to Vegas so I wanted my nails done, and Miyako was able to get me in on last minute since she had a cancellation. I didn't know what I wanted, but I looked through some books she had and picked what I liked. The rest I told her to do what she thought was best. And I love the results! What I like about Miyako was that she was soooo meticulous. She was so focused on my nails and paid attention to the tiniest detail. But she also chatted with me and made me feel very comfortable. I got design gel extension nails done by Mika and I think she's amazing when it comes to the nail art!! She was very patient with me as I picked out the colors and I love how pretty and detailed the art came out. However, the reason I'm docking off a couple stars is because of the nail extensions themselves. She used Gel X, which I had heard of before and was excited to try out! But on a couple of the nails the tips were too small and even filing down the side of my natural nail wasn't going to fix it unfortunately :(( I attached a couple pics to show, but you can clearly see the side of my nail bed still poking out. Also, in terms of the length of the nails, I didn't notice it until after I had left but when you compare the left and right hands, most of the lengths do not match at all, particularly the ring and pinky fingers. I'm aware that the width of my nail beds may have played a part in the length of the nail tips, but I still don't believe the lengths should be so noticeably different? And lastly, I'm not sure how/why, but the nails in general look quite bulky and thick, both at the sides when you look at it from above, and also at the cuticles too. I may not be a professional myself but I'm pretty sure it's not supposed to look so bulky like that Maybe I should've mentioned something while she was doing them, but then again I had never gotten extensions done at a salon before, so I just trusted she knew what she was doing and went with it. At first glance too, I thought they looked ok..! Overall, I think the place is really nice and the staff are super sweet, I was just thinking that maybe they're not super experienced with Gel X quite yet. I would definitely consider going back for regular design gel nails, but I think I'll have to pass when it comes to extensions :( read more

I asked for hello kitty face and matte black/red chrome nails. To be honest, I can't stop looking at my nails! Japanese nails may be more expensive than your typical gel manicure but I think it's worth it. I rather pay $50 to have longer lasting gel than $35 for regular gel manicure. UPDATE: So I kept my nails on for a couple weeks after the wedding and not even kidding, these lasted the ENTIRE time-- every single little jewel and rhinestone stayed in place. After the wedding I was really careless about my nails while doing dishes, cleaning/scrubbing while cleaning the house, etc. Obviously they grew out bc life, but nothing came/chipped off! I wish I took a picture before taking them off. Very impressed. ..................................... I decided to splurge for my wedding nails and it was totally worth it! I made an appt a couple of days before and snagged an afternoon spot with Mika. My MOH (I also made an appt for her, too) and I showed up a little early and were escorted to our designated nail station. I had picked out a picture on Pinterest and showed it to Mika who even took notes to make sure she got it as close to the picture as possible. She was sweet, meticulous, and spent time making sure everything looked perfect. I am SO happy with my nails! It took maybe an hour and a half? Total came out to $75 without tip. I have been coming to Miyako for a few years now and it is always a delight. The work done by her and her staff (especially Gen and Miho, I'm sure that Mika is just as good, I have just never had the pleasure) is the best. My gel manicures look great for up to 4 weeks. I get so many compliments on them, especially the colors which I always let them choose for me after telling what I'd like. The shades chosen are always just right. My hands are on display at work, and my clients are always asking where I go and what color do I have on. This is not a walk in type place, in fact you must make an appointment. The appointment system is online which I love. It's very transparent, if you are not getting the time and/or service you desire it is because they are already booked up. Don't wait until the last moment to try and book, I have made my appointments months in advance. They are only 3 people working here. This is a boutique Japanese nail salon and they are artists. A little overpriced for what it is. I chose this nail shop because of the rating and I'm pretty disappointed. First of all, I've been to other nail shops during covid and other shops go above and beyond with protocol. They take your temperature. They also give you hand sanitizer or ask you to wash your hands before sitting, but that wasn't done at this nail shop. Also most shops have you wash your hands before they polish, but again, not here. Hopefully the gel manicure lasts. We will see. Price wise, it was $60 for a gel manicure with design. I showed the tech a photo of what I wanted but the color she chose was not like the photo. It was an okay manicure at best. I would have liked it much better if it looked closer to the photo I showed. It took about an hour and a half from start to finish. Maybe I should have requested for Miyako herself. But yeah, the experience def fell short of my expectations. read more
