I've never written a bad review in my entire life, but unfortunately, I'm going to have to start with this one. I've ordered from Nakata tons of times and it was alright sushi, but the delivery people just kept getting worse and worse. I've never had a good experience with one of their delivery men. This most recent time, it reached such a point that I needed to type this up. The man rung my doorbell twice in a row and then rang it again 6 seconds later, not giving me enough time to even make it to the door. When I got there, without greeting me, the man says in an irritated tone, "Your house is very far." I just smiled, not knowing how to respond. He tapped his foot impatiently as I signed my credit card receipt, clearly not wanting to wait the 10 seconds it was going to take me to write my name. I can tell the guy was probably a jerk, but I gave him a tip anyway because I always try to give the benefit of the doubt. Maybe he's just having a bad day, you know? Everyone has bad days. I was in the service industry, I know you HAVE to tip, unless the service is so SO bad that you can't justify it. I give it to him and he frowns and says, "Only this much?" So unprofessional, I had no idea what to do. So I just smiled and thanked him for the food. It always takes them awhile to get my food, which is fine because it's usually at lunch hour, but I assumed I was far away because of how the delivery guy would guilt me every time he came. However, I just looked it up and the restaurant is only 8 minutes away. They always make me feel so terrible for only an 8 minute trip? I thought I was half an hour away or something because of how they treated me. To top it off, I got a roll today and the seaweed was so stale and gross, I had to throw the whole roll out. This isn't the first time it's happened either. If it was JUST the poor service, maybe I could suck it up and keep ordering from them, but I don't want to pay for "might be inedible" food and rude delivery people. My appetite is gone. read more

I've ordered takeout from here a couple times & I do not plan on it again. The fried rice is decent, but the fish rolls are not. I guess you pay for what you get, cause the salmon looks & tastes old. I actually found a hair in one of my rolls. The sweet potato tempura is mushy. They are fast with deliver but I am concerned about the overall hygiene in the restaurant. read more

I've visited Nakata many times. They're known for a large selection of specialty rolls, which I believe they have around 50 didn't options when it comes to these rolls. When you buy 2 rolls you get the 3rd for free.(has to be within the price limit of your other two rolls) I also receive great customer service when I dine in, I'm a frequent visitor which I'm sure has something to do with that. Can't miss the the Caterpillar roll, love roll, Tri-color roll, and the dragon ball roll. Traditional sushi is also very good. The quality of the tuna/scallops is some of the best I've seen on Staten Island. Also, your glass of water will never.... eveeeeeeeeeer be empty. Will continue to keep dining here, definitely one of the better sushi restaurants on SI! read more

So by far one of the cheapest sushi places on Staten Island. They have pretty good food. You cant go wrong with $2.50 for a roll. My favorite rolls are the avocado roll, shrimp tempura, and the California rolls. There Hibachi lunch is good too. Supper cheap. Also fast delivery. read more

They have normally been reliable with fulfilling my order, but I just placed a large order in which they left rolls out and they refused to own up to it, instead blaming me for the error. Nakata is a good sushi spot. The service is great always attentive, almost too attentive and will fill ur glass up even after taking a sip. The sushi sashimi combination is great. However once I've had it were the fish was almost hot or very warm and it was unpleasant. The house salad with ginger dressing is good and the edamame is good. Nothing is a stand out dish. Overall a good sushi place just a bad parking lot which is very small and awkward, not much street parking. read more

Great sushi! I usually order during lunch special and get the Maki Lunch Special (really awesome deal where you get to pick three different rolls [18 rolls]) and I get the fried rice on the side. Sushi is good, decent prices. Staff is unorganized. No structure. They rush you to order your food. After you tell one person you need a few minutes, another comes right over and asks you again. They hover over the table once they drop the check, yet again you tell someone you need a few minutes to figure out the bill and someone's else try's to grab it. Will not be returning. Food is good, fresh. I would have rated Nakata more stars years ago but they now pale in comparison to their earlier years. Food is overpriced for what it is. Decor needs an update. As do their attitude. You give me a pinch of ginger and I ask for more, it's not unreasonable, don't scowl at me. Also, my god are they CHEAP. They charge you for anything extra. Myself and 4 other co-workers decided to go to Nakata for our lunch break which is 45 minutes. Some of us ordered sushi while others ordered food from the kitchen. 15 minutes later our waitress returns and starts mumbling about a problem in the kitchen and it will take 15 mins for the food ordered from the kitchen. We tell her we can't wait too long because we are on our break. She returns again maybe 10 minutes later and says that the kitchen is having a food inspection and the kitchen is shut down, maybe another 15 minutes and suggest we order sushi instead. Needless to say we were not happy, one of my coworkers is pregnant and can obviously not have fish. On top of that, the people who ordered sushi still did not get their food. The point is though, that our waitress knew about the food inspection and did not tell us when we arrived at the restaurant, and instead let us sit there, order food and wait around like idiots. We decided to get up and leave some time after that because we still did not get our sushi, and our lunch break was over. Also, when we arrived back at work, one of my coworkers called nakata asking to speak to a manager or a owner, and the person who answered the phone made some excuse that they were outside and to call later. Needless to say we will never come here again. I suggest anyone who wants great sushi or any other food go to Red Apple on hylan blvd. the service there is great and food is good too. read more

I order from this restaurant every time my boyfriend and I get sushi (which is a lot). The sushi, as well as other foods such as salmon teriyaki, shumai, Kani salad, etc are all extremely tasty; however, they tend to mess up our order every once in a while. So I would recommend repeating the order to them or having them say it back to you to confirm that everything is correct. Other than that, everything is perfect. My husband & I have been coming here since it opened..we love it..the price is super reasonable and the quality of the food is excellent..their gyoza(I prob spelled that wrong) is AMAZING and soooo light.. Ordered from here to go. It was delicious. One of the few yummy sushi places on Staten Island. All of their appetizers are really good - rock shrimp, garlic broccoli, shrimp tempura. The pineapple fried rice was good as well, and you get a huge portion. The handrolls were all really good and the fish was fresh - spicy salmon roll, alaskan roll, eel avocado roll, salmon lovers roll, and a few others. Overall, it was a great experience. The girl who takes the order was very precise and pleasant considering that we ordered a lot of food for 10 people. Surprisingly, the delivery time was short. I used to order from here a lot and the food used to be great. But something happened, I'm not sure if its a new cooking team or new management but the food quality has gone down way down hill. With my most recent order apparently afforded myself and my family with food poisoning. If you value your heath and don't like throwing up or having diarrhea then avoid this place like the plague. Food is ok. Customer service not so much. Don't tell me you're going to deliver to my building and then tell me to walk all the way to the gate. "I can't come down", yes, you can, after many an argument and the delivery person hanging up on us three times, and then he told us "I have too many deliveries to come down." Not my issue. I ordered delivery for delivery. I'll be taking my business somewhere else. And next time, make sure your delivery person doesn't scoff at the tip we leave. He's lucky he got one. read more

wanted to try this place based on the great reviews in yelp. I am very skeptical of sushi places to have the 2 rolls for 1 or 50% off promotion. But I wanted to give it a try just because the reviews were so good. I was hoping that I can finally find a good sushi place in SI that's affordable, but unfortunately, I was quite disappointed. The food was just okay. I didn't feel very good afterward. I don't think I am going back. One good thing I must say about the place is that they do have attentive and friendly staff. This is a comfy and friendly place, but I have had better sushi at almost every Japanese restaurant on Staten Island I have eaten in.

The location is good and there is always parking. Even though the rolls got smaller over the years, the food is still good and the fish is fresh. Very disappointed in one of our FORMALLY!!! favorite restaurants NAKATA 1755 Richmond Rd. Staten Island, New York 10306, (across from the Barry Homes. ) My Daughter planned over a month ago to have her 21st birthday there with a group of 12 good friends. We reserved the party room for them and My Boyfriend went there himself to make the reservation in person for her. So that they knew it was us, booking the room. We went there regularly with and without my daughter. So they knew her also. My Boyfriend confirmed a day earlier then they asked with the final number of 10 and asked if it was ok to bring in a birthday cake and they said yes. They asked that the group arrive early. It was a 7:30 reservation for the room. They arrived at 7:10, they room had other people in it a family with 2 kids and a baby. They would not be spending as much as the 10 adults in My Daughter's party. They just sat them at tables in the middle of the crowd. My other daughter sent me a picture of her sister with the tiara and Balloons I gave her to give to her sister.I noticed right away that they were not in the party room. NAKATA staff just disregarded that the room was for her. I was livid, but my daughter begged me not to go and cause a scene, about them not giving her the room, She feared they would spit in their food. I told her I would wait until they were done. They gave the 10 people in her group 4 menus, and 5 glasses of water, I guess to share. When they asked for more glasses so they could each have a glass. The staff seemed irritated. They messed up several orders and one young lady at the party was not served until nearly everyone else at the party was finished. When the cake came out in the box, the staff opened it to show the party and placed it on the table closed. with the candle on top of the box in a bag. The ladies at the party had to ask for plates and forks and a knife to cut it. Again the staff seemed bothered. My Daughter is a trooper and says all of this was ok because she was with friends but she knows the service we usually get there. I am not a trooper like my daughter. I did go back to tell them what I thought of how they treated my daughter on this special day. As My Boyfriend and I walked in The Host greeted us like usual, very friendly and I told him in an extremely loud voice "NO, You just F***ed up with my daughters party, and you just lost regular customers, and all of those young ladies could have been his future customers....." He said he did not realize she was my daughter. She had been there with us several times and we would always talk to him. As if he would have treated her and her guest better then. Any business they treats regulars like that is not a good business. I will NEVER return to NAKATA and neither should you. read more

My husband and I went to Nakata for the first time, we had the sushi and sashimi combo for two, which was only $36 and it was a bargain. The fish temperature was good-cool and fresh as no other I tried in SI. It comes with salad or soup. We also had the soft shell crab which was perfectly fried with the tempure mix. We will be back. The service was very good as well. The bathroom was clean and so was the dining area. There is a party room that was being used but our service was still good as it was almost empty.
