This is a really nice place to stay in the middle of nowhere with a lot to do in their "complex." I would say I was a little surprised that the pool and hotel were not next to each other (have to drive across the highway). That said, the hotel is nice, rooms are spacious and clean. Pool/clubouse/bar/game area/gym is awesome. It was kinda empty when I was there, but I could spend a whole day there if there was not so much great hiking around. Beautiful mountain resort with lots of fun things for the family to do. Tubing and snowshoeing in the winter, hiking and mountain biking in the summer, flowers and animals in the spring, and lots of stunning places to relax in the fall. My family and I were staying at the resort for their grand re-opening two years ago and we loved it! I read through some of the reviews and I think you should consider giving it another try now that it is under new management. We have actually gone back twice since to the resort and each time it is amazing, especially for young children. Wigwam, the club house/restaurant, is really nice and upscale with great views all around. We were a little worried about bringing the children there because it is more formal (cloth table and napkins), but another family with four young children told us that it was great for families and the food was really good so we went. They were right, the children were definitely welcomed! They told us that they had hired a new chef to use more local and organic produce. We ordered the duck and the steak and then asked to split a pasta dish between our two boys and added a side of broccoli. The staff were very attentive and made sure that the children had what they needed. My son actually tipped a glass of red wine and they immediately cleaned it up without making us feel bad so that was a definite a plus in our book. There is a large lawn outside where the children can run around. So we could let them outside and see them through the large picture windows while we finished off dessert and a night cap. We went again last weekend Aug 2019 to get away before the start of the school year. The food is still great and the staff very nice. We had breakfast and dinner there. We got there really early for breakfast and ordered the poached eggs, sausage and pancakes. The poach eggs were cooked perfectly. They have free coffee to tide you over until you order which was a nice touch. After dinner, they had a fire side chat along with live music. The children got to make s'mores, which was fun and I got to meet some of the other families that go more regularly. They said they have s'mores and live music every week, which is amazing. I give it two stars entirely based on the building itself as the service and food was pretty bad in my opinion. The building is pretty interesting and you can read about the history about when it was drawn up by Mr Wright and how the plans were acquired by the restaurant owners. I had what was basically a spicy chicken sandwich although it was not actually spicy. It included a spinach salad where I found the radishes to be rotten and the cucumber to be soft and nasty. The blue cheese dressing was flavorless and if I were blindfolded I would not have known what it was. My mother had a crab sandwich type thing in which she couldn't taste the crab. None of the food was hot. Our waiter seemed to be in a world of his own and took a very long time to get back and forth to our table. We actually spoke more to the bus boy for help than to our waiter. The only saving grace is that when we complained, the restaurant comped mom's sandwich and gave us a free dessert. The bill still came to over $30 (2 bar drinks included). I won't be returning unless it's to play golf (not) or take in some more scenery. read more

Great venue but subpar food and service. Our table was wobbly so we were given wedges to fix the table ourselves. My son in law was on his hands and knees fixing it! Mashed potatoes and squash sides were lukewarm. Asked for a few more blueberries for the child's entree. It was brought to us but no mention of an up charge for it but it was $1.50 more! Not a lot just the principal. Great outside music. Only recommend you come here for an appetizer and a cocktail. read more

Nice view, and a decent place to get a drink. That's as far as I'd go. We've had two dinners at Nakoma and one evening on the back patio for drinks and appetizers. The first dinner was in March of 2015. It was great! So we decided to revisit with my in-laws in August 2015. They decided to take us all out - their treat. That evening was botched from the get go. Poor reception at the front, shotty service, and lukewarm meals. Side dishes were close to room temp and my filet was overcooked. We were also charged, unbeknownst to us, for a side dish of fruit for my three year old. We were so hungry we just ate what we were given and then decided we'd never come back for a full dinner. A total shock! This restaurant tanked quickly! Tonight, 9/11, we stopped by for drinks and appetizers and the whole vibe at the restaurant was funky. Staff looked stressed, again a cruddy reception at the front desk, and a guy who looked like the general manager seemed to be "mad-dogging" everybody - including guests! Food was just "so-so". I didn't recognize anyone. Are they turning staff over that quickly?! Not worth revisiting except for the view and a drink. For a nice dinner, go to the Iron Door in Johnsville, or maybe Longboards in Graeagle. read more

Wow what a beautiful place to dine. We started with the wine tasting. The Rombauer Chardonnay was delightful. We than had dinner. The calamari appetizer was over cooked. It was tough. My husband had the Blue nose bass under cooked which was delicious. I ordered the seared Ahi tuna. It was slightly overcooked which was okay, however it was so salty I ended up cutting the outside part off. The vegetables were great as was the rice. For me it was a bad dinner. Can't remember ever saying that about any meal I have eaten in a restaurant. Have made some pretty poor dinners at home however. read more

My hubby and I stopped in for the Sunday evening wine tasting and stayed for dinner. I had the NewYork steak and he had the filet. Both were cooked just right, nice pieces of beef with great sides. Service was friendly and competent. We asked for wine that we'd tasted that wasn't on the wine list and they brought it right out. We had an amazing time at Nakoma. A small group of us (8) went to Nakoma Lodge, stayed the night and had dinner in the restaurant. The people are all very friendly! The dinner was amazing from the skirt steak, meatloaf, quail to the pasta! The service was great too. A very fun, relaxed atmosphere. I was happily surprised at the high quality meal.
